Used to love this phone - LG Thrill 4G

But after updating to 2.3 it has really screwed my phone up. I used the lg updater and did everything the legit way, the night they released it. Now my phone doesn't keep time, I'm lucky if my phone rings once out of every ten phone calls, and I don't get text messages until I turn my phone on and unlock the screen. I don't even get missed call alerts, just a voicemail alert some hours later. I rooted my phone back when I was on 2.2 using super one click I think. Could this be what is messing it up?

Not the root causing problem it is ghost calls and I have heard many developers say it is 2.3.5 issue and have heard LG will come out with a fix for it soon but knowing LG I wouldn't hold your breathe

I know I don't get the text message icon half the time on the notification bar.

Yes the update is to blame. I decided to drop the thrill and move on. Grabbed a htc vividly official ice update and it works great. The face recognition is nice..wont use my thrill as a phone any longer..

I am using Thrill Seeker 2.0, and I am not having any of these problems. I had to mess around with some things to free up resources since I have using the SPB Shell 3D Launcher, but after using the AutoKiller I'm all good.

Ghost calls are indeed a part of V20p (and all gingerbread updates for this phone as far as I can tell). Nothing to do with root. There's no way to know its happening unless the person who tried to call you chews your ear off later on about not answering your phone or calling back (my wife). Or when you recieve the voicemail to the call you never got.
Now if only the ghost calls would limit themselves to telemarketers...sigh
Seriously though, if the person calling doesn't make it known they tried to call you then you'll likely never know it even happened. This is something they need to fix ASAP and I would suggest flooding their emails and forums demanding a fix. I know I am.

No ghost calls on Thrill Seeker 2.0 on my V20P thrill.
Did you verify APNs and try a factory reset? Whats your signal db look like?

I can confirm that while I have not experienced any ghost calls my phone's clock was 20 minutes behind today when I was in class. Thank goodness I didn't rely on that time when going to school today.

I called at&t today to see what they had to say. They told me that this is the first time he is hearing about this problem, and they want me to try a factory reset first. So I guess I will try that.

I get all my calls. And text
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA

That's the thing about ghost calls, you really DONT know that you're not getting them.
For example, if somebody calls you and doesn't leave a voicemail, you will never know it even happened. To the person calling you the phone rings like normal and goes to voicemail just as it should. But on your end the call never makes it to your phone and you are oblivious to what's going on.
I didn't think it was happening to me either until somebody actually brought it to my attention they had just called me.

I started getting worried about the ghost calling issue and so I just got off the phone with AT&T. After explaining my problem the customer service person talked to their business center, tech services, and she even called LG for me. After everyone acknowledged the ghost calls as a problem but also had no solution for it... she eventually waved an upgrade fee, waved the phone fee, and is sending me a new, not refurbished, Samsung Galaxy SII for FREE... and I think I even get to keep my Thrill...
Goodluck trying to get that deal again... but I'm excited and can't wait to get my SGSII on Monday.

How long have you had your Thrill 4G? What did you have to say exactly? I looked over the specs of the Samsung GALAXY S II. It looks pretty nice actually.

I have had my Thrill since January. I simply asked if there was some information about the ghost call issues that started happening after the recent Gingerbread update. I explained that I had done some research and found out that it was a problem for many people, not just my individual phone. I went into the baseband issue and demonstrated that I knew what I was talking about. She then contacted support, tech, and even LG. After 45 minutes everyone recognized that the Thrill has issues but there aren't any good solutions at the moment. LG claims that they have not had many complaints about the Gingerbread update yet, so we need to fill their inboxes/forums with complaints.
So this is actually my business line and I am on a small business plan with AT&T so I explained how ghost calls just aren't acceptable. She totally agreed with me (I'm telling you I got lucky to get this customer service person). She talked with her manager about giving me an early early upgrade exemption. He approved it. I think waffled on the price... so she offered it to me completely free of charge. BAM. At first she did offer it at the normal $99 upgrade cost plus $18 activation fee...

Has anyone else successfully swapped their phones?
I'm getting host calls and delayed texts no matter which gingerbread baseband I flash. If I could swap this for a galaxy SII, I would in a heartbeat.

Dang that's cool they hooked you up like that! I haven't had any problems at all on stock gingerbread or with roms. A GSII would be sweet but I love this phone and enjoy the 3d way more than I thought I would.

I read on the SGSII forums that ATT has decided to discontinue the SGS i777 in favor of the skyrocket. The funny thing is most people say the i777 gets better benchmarks and is still a better phone but whatever. The great thing is I get to keep BOTH phones. I'm very new to deving but will try my hand at porting some SGSII Roms to our thrill when I get some time.

[Q] ATT users that are using V20P could you please

Hi guys I thought the other day I would give LG live chat a go in the States and asked them about the ghost call problem, the said they hadn't heard of this issue before ???? really ?????
Just interested if someone else with the GC issue could do this as well and see if this is the general responce from them.
Be really interested to see if LG is hiding it or if their internal comunications are of the same standard as thier GB firmware
I called AT&T today about ghost calls... they were confused. After talking a lot to the service person eventually they called LG. LG claimed that they had only heard from a small number of people about the issue. Supposedly if they get more complaints they will make it a higher priority.
Also if you are really lucky you might score the same deal I got... AT&T is sending me a brand new SGSII for free, waiving my upgrade fee, and waiving the cost of the phone
I am happy for you that they made you happy by giving you an SGS2, but I personally would prefer to stick with the Thrill 4G myself. I just want it to work the way it is supposed to. It's ridiculous that it cannot keep time any more.
Thanks thrill_seeker, good to hear your weren't the first person with this fault. Just put an order in for a Galaxy Nexus today , love the 3d but at the end of the day a phone needs to be a phone, funny that.
Yea I agree about the phone being a phone deal...I mean this is my personal and business phone. I can't have ghost calls. The time keeping thing has also become annoying as well. Anyways I still plan on using the Thrill for random things but the SGSII will definitely become my everyday phone.

What department offered the free phone?
And what did you tell them when they asked how you could confirm you were getting ghost calls?

I pointed out the obvious that it is impossible to know if you are having ghost calls or not. But I have had several people get ahold of me and complain that I'm not answering there calls but I have no record of ever receiving their call (true story, I'm married).
The customer service agent just talked with her manager and convinced him to give me the phone at an early upgrade cost. I really wasn't sure about dropping. $100 for another phone. When I hesitated about price she immediately waived all fees and the cost of the phone.

Refurbished Thrills

Anyone have any experiences with refurbs? I just got off the phone with att warrenty about text messages not coming through until I push my power button to get ready to use it. Only then I get 2 to 3 text messages at one time that was sent from 20-30 mins prior. Never happened until gingerbread was put on my device. Anyhow, back to the questions about refurbished phones. Bad or equal experiences from originals?
I'm on my first Thrill which is a refurb. So far so good, looks completely brand new. There's a whole other thread about the ghost calls which is apparently recognized now by LG as being a problem so hopefully soon that will stop.
Mines a refurb and its as good as new. looks, hardwear, never had a prob.
maybe anyone here will know the answer to this, but i want to keep my curent thrill and get another one to mess around with. i have insurance on my thrill so i can call att and say i lost mine and theyll send me one. my questions is would they be able to track my "lost" thrill if i gave it to my sister to use? would they disable it?

Jumping ship :(

In the midst of fighting with verizon over getting a working revo i jumped ship and bought a Moto RAZR on craigstlist for cheap. I appreciate all the help y'all have given over the last year and how hard everyone(especially mtmichaelson) has fought to make the revo a damn good phone. I have to admit, after tasting ics, gingerbread is just bland! Thanks again guys, and good luck on keeping the revo at least moderately caught up in the wake of all the new JB and ICS phones on the market!
I'm almost about ready to do the same. It's weird how this phone is a little over a year old and already obsolete.

I'm looking at jumping ship as well and buying a Droid 4. I know it uses a microsim and ours uses a full sim card. Do I need to do anything other than cut it down to micro size or will it just work when I stick it in the new phone? Do I need to contact Verizon for activation or anything? Thanks.

Micro is a completely different size and card. You would have to contact Verizon. You can go into a corporate store also. They have extras they can activate for you. Last I knew they were free with a sales pitch for an add a line our upgrade lol.

Thanks for your answer but are you sure about the card? I've read that as long as you keep the circuitry and contact points intact cutting a sim down to a micro sim will still function. Or is there yet another kind of card I'm getting this confused with?
I recall seeing a how-to cut down the SIM card quite a few months ago. A video even. I'm certain Google would point you to something useful.

I did the same thing. Picked up a galaxy nexus off of craigslist for pretty cheap. After owning the original droid I'm happy to be back to vanilla android (ICS this time). My revo had become way to slow for my liking, even with mtmichaelson's rom (which made it way better than stock).
I destroyed verizon. Revo out. Samsung Galaxy S3 to replace. for free.
This is my wife's phone and we've had it for about 6-7 months. I rooted it, ROM'd it (1st Gingervolt, then Broken Out). I'm on the latest firmware update, and again rooted and flashed Broken Out. All throughout, there were issues with bluetooth, Vibe of Death, screen freezes.
I complained just the other day - hey it was Sunday on Labor Day weekend and I had a moment. 1st Verizon rep was willing to send a replacement Revo. I told her that was unacceptable, that all the forums I've read detail that the defects I've cited are baked into the phone, it is a lemon and should be recalled and that sending me the same lemony phone was unacceptable. I urged her to elevate my claim. I was insistent and was really quite angry that she was not getting it.
I then spoke with a really great rep - technical support - to whom I mentioned all I had done (except for rooting and flashing a rom) and truthfully told her that I had upgraded to latest firmware and still had screen freezes and bluetooth problems. I told her about what I read on the forums and how the phone is just fatally flawed. I also mentioned 20 years as a Verizon cell phone customer, my family plan with 5 phones, all with data, and that what I was asking for - a different model replacement phone - was neither outrageous nor unexpected.
She asked what phone would I prefer. I first said a Razr, but said the Galaxy S3 would be great, but I doubt they'd substitute. Without a moment of delay, she said I could have the Galaxy S3 and what color, blue or white... It was shipped immediately and we are awaiting it.
So pretty soon, on ebay, you are going to see our used LG Revolution...
The moral of this story is get past the first level of customer support and stand your ground. insist on a replacement. Tell them that the Revolution is a huge disappointment and does not provide the basic functions a phone should.
Man...i wish my experience with trying to get different phones was better... I did the same thing, insisted that i would rather go to another service than get a revo back... They didnt give a rats ass... The only reason i'm still with verizon is due to the razr i found for dirt cheap. ICS is so nice in comparison!

This phone was obsolete when it was released honestly. The Droid Charge came out before it and was a better phone for the most part. The only reason I bought it was for the unlocked bootloader but I guess none of the Android developers did because we only had limited development (not a knock against the people who did develop, but for all the developers who complained about locked bootloaders and then didn't jump on one that was unlocked)

How much longer do you have?

Those with this "awesome" phone known as the LG Revolution. How much longer do you have until your upgrade? Will you be staying on board with LG or go over to a different company? If so, what phone currently has your attention?
My upgrade is on 1/28/13 and seriously can't wait for it. As my first Android phone, this Revolution really did leave a bad impression. I doubt I'll stick with LG once I'm eligible for an upgrade. The GS3 has caught my eye. I'm lucky enough to be able to mess with it from time to time at my job. It's going to be a bit weird since all the years I have been on Verizon, all my phones were LG.

I am up in February. This is/was not my first android phone but my overall experience with Android has not been the most ideal. I use my phone for 3 basic things, Phone calls, Texting, and Email. Android fails for me at 2 of these. Random black screen of death and a constant error message when it checks my email.
I'm bailing on Android and going to give WP8 a shot.
Well hopefully that works out for you. I'm fine with Android really. It does want I want it to. It's just I don't have the proper device lol. I might have suffered more if I didn't have Broken Out 2.0.1 on this phone. LG's UI is simply horrendous.

I warrantied out of my Revo about 6 months ago into a Bionic. Have yet to have an issue with it. I'll never go LG again ... even If the rumors are true about them making a Nexus device.

My first phone was an HTC Eris and it was a great little phone. The stock android sucked, the ROMS were great, email worked but other issues existed, LG phone, while my hardware is generally stable, Android will randomly go into a black screen of death usually during a phone call making so I have to pull the battery to end the call. My phone is rooted stock, running an alternative home. I tried BO, it and my phone did not agree, it was always unstable for me, happens no biggie. I am older now and much less patient then I was a few years ago. I expect it to work, the error message when checking my corporate email annoys me. It has almost no documentation on the web for the error and no one has found a fix, Invalid userID or PWD but then if you hit refresh it successfully checks and downloads the email. I think WP8 will suit me fine, if I don't like it, I will change back... nothing ventured nothing gained.
Yeah I hate that random black screen I get sometimes during a call (I thought that was only me lol). Not sure how I would feel going to Motorola though to be honest, but it's most likely better than what LG has been doing. Well WP8 certainly is something different, I've seen less than a handful of people use Windows Phone.

I have another full year on this thing. =/ I'm looking at selling the phone online and getting a different one, though. It's soured me on LG products, generally. Using LG's support network was horrible, and the phone itself is just too quirky.
well, I'm here for the long haul. Just upgraded in Dec, so i got a while. Hopefully PG can fix the pink screen issue in cm9. iirc, other than that its good to go. Can't wait.

How do you warranty out of this piece of garbage? I've had mine since December and have already had to have it replaced twice for the same issue...and it's starting with the same symptoms again. (It'll start slowing down and acting goofy, not receiving texts, then it'll stop booting)
If I can't get out of it, I'm stuck with it until August before VZW will let me upgrade on contract although I'm eyeballing Craigslist for anything that's better...

Just tell them it does it in safe mode and you want to try something else. As long as the phone is still under warranty, all you have to pay for is a new battery and battery door. Some have been able to push the issue and get into a galaxy nexus or RAZR. Usually they offer a tbolt, charge, or bionic.

That someone was me... I warranty swapped out to a Galaxy Nexus and it cost 53 bucks for the extended battery and door. So psyched!
Good enough for now
I have two of them and they work fine for me. I'm holding off to see what new models are coming (Galaxy S4 etc), and I am going to have to buy my new phones un-subsidized because I don't intend to lose my unlimited data. I use tablets for the fun stuff and the Revolution for calls. The Revolution phones my wife and I have are working fine and rooted. The only problems I have had is that both of our batteries failed at the same time (bad batch I think). I jut bought cheap OEMs off of eBay and moved on.
I escaped from the nightmare this past week.
After three replacements, I was able to get a RAZR.
My trick was that I called up and told them I wouldn't accept another Revolution.
I insisted that I wanted to lateral into something else, or I would demand that my early termination fees be waived.
The gentleman asked what I wanted, and I said a RAZR if it's possible.
"Not a problem!"
and the rest went from there.
2/13/13 for me. Not too long, really. My main concern is keeping my unlimited data whole keeping the other two on the family plan happy. Not sure if that's going to be possible . . . Thinking about Samsung. Nexus is compelling.
Anyone here likely to spring for the upcoming LG Nexus device rumored. I'm betting not!

They are doing the next nexus, so that should have an unlocked bootloader and stock Android... Unless I misunderstand what all that means.
And it won't matter who makes it. People will develop for a Nexus. It is supposed to be based on the Optimus G, which sounds like a winner, except possibly for battery life.
Be warned that when you upgrade, if you currently have unlimited data, you will lose it if you take the subsidized price with a new contract. If you pay full price and don't sign a new contract, you get to keep unlimited data. If you go that route, there's really no reason waiting on getting a new device because it will cost the same either way .

Nexus4 Great Disappointment

From day one I had dropped calls, sometimes as many as five in the same 10 minute call ! Considering that my previous phone never dropped calls at my location, I was immediately suspicious. Did the required checks with TMO regarding towers and reception. They sent a replacement phone. Dropped calls were actually worse on the replacement phone. TMO declined any further action, suggesting I should call LG. LG stated categorically that they had no reports of any problems like what I was having.
So I have been forced to return the phone for full credit, reversing the required two year contract and I am back on my trusty Vibrant.
Don't know what I will do now. Unbelievable. Selling phones that don't work as phones.

Believe it or not, the I9000 is a solid phone. My Bell Canada Vibrant is still kicking ass with latest 4.2.1 nightlies from the CM team. My daily driver is the Nexus 4 these days. Stock from Google, just boot loader unlocked and rooted. Too bad it didn't work out for you.

So ONLY YOU out of thousands of phones sold have the problem, and yet you accuse them of creating a phone that doesn't work? Narcissistic much?
ive made hundreds of calls with this phone, only like 1 dropped call and i think that might have been on their end. im in a good service area but this phone seems especially good reception wise because i have made calls in spotty coverage areas and they have been great. LG wasnt lying when they said that they dont know of this issue

I live just outside Dallas, I get good coverage, a little shoddy at times inside buildings, but never any real problems. Especially as I get closer in to the populated areas where towers seem to be more frequent/powerful.
There are many things about this phone I am not thrilled with (battery life!) but reception and call reliability is not one of them. It is far better than my previous phone on TMO and better than my work phone (Incredible 2) on Verizon.
Omg. Why with these pointless threads. I'm no developer or such. But my god.....
Its an android phone that has a lot of techno and great performance. Of course it will not be great on battery . a lot of ppl buying this phone seem to think its the ultimate phone .. Either deal with it or buy a Nokia 3310.....
And the screen scratching and breaking its not indestructable ... It'll protect to an extent .
As for the op blaming his phone out of the bucket load sold.I've not heard of 1 instance (I work in a phone shop ) ... I've had mine since day 1 along with a work colleague.
We both have no yellow tint issue.
No random cracks (that just happen) .
No speaker or mic issue.
I rooted mine straight out the box and running faux kernel and aokp ROM . battery I have just seen my best yet at 2 days and 14 hours.....
Use on WiFi all the time. Moderate net browsing. Ebay.mail. few hundred texts. 25 mins of calls.....
I can't understand why ppl post bad things that effects all new phones, but yet there's threads and threads of this and that. .... Its a phone ...
Op I know you proberly mean well but its just constant now . I use to come on here a lot to see how development and cool new things and new info are in progress. All I see now is
Threads about
This issue .that issue. Oh my screen randomly broke.battery's terrible. Screen is not gorilla glass as it has a scratch.
Any way all the best what ever phone you decide next .

You mean you actually dialed a number? How do you do that on android? I can't remember the last time I did that.

Hahaha.
Saved.
The only problem I have on my nexus 4 in regards to calls is that sometimes the phone doesn't ring?
I'll dial someone and i'll wait the usual amount of time, but with no ring and all of a sudden a here the person say, "hello".
So the phone is dialing, but there is do ringing? Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Weird.

Isn't that on the carrier's side?
I call bull. T-Mobile sent a replacement nexus 4???? I know they are supposed to start selling them soon. But this would mean you already bought one from T-Mobile. Then used it enough to know it sucked. Then waited for a replacement... So you bought one from T-Mobile before they announced they were selling it? Or you convinced then to give you a replacement just cause?

I bought the phone online from TMobile in early December. I immediately had dropped calls. Reported it to T mobile and they told me they were going to send a replacement, which also didn't work. I am not sure why you can't follow this simple explanation. Perhaps you should put down the drink, turn off the porn and try reading, you do know how to read don't you ?

I never said I was the only one. LG implied that I was the only one when I called them. The two phones I got just didn't work. That's all and that is a disappointment. I am glad that many of you have phones that do work. However there are quite a few that don't for various and multiple reasons. I think your hostility is inappropriate and revealing of a projection from your dark side that doesn't,t belong in this forum.
