The best ROM is: StockRom+Custom Kernel+Custom Theme

Which STOCK ROM?
Which CUSTOM Kernal?
Which CUSTOM Theme?
Answer PLEASE ASAP!

Choose what you want! First try recommended ROMS like CM9 or Slim.

Last Official ROM for ur country. Kernel that provide OC (but near 1.4 Mhz) and UV, IO - SIO and Governor - SmartassV2. There alot of theme u can choose any.

You want GB or ICS ?

ROM : SLIM ICS 3.3
Kernel : Origine ROM
Modem : JW4

ics: Slim ics + Midnight kernel
GB: gamerz rom + semaphore kernel
Inviato dal mio GT-I9000 usando Tapatalk

Stock Slim v3.3 is near perfection...

If you try ICS, you'll never get back to GB.
I recommend you latest nighly from CM9 http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=galaxysmtd .
It's rock stable, fast and battery friendly.
My current config is: CM9+Devil 0.67b VC+ KB3 modem.

so i live in USA and the stock rom for my country is OLD, 2.2, also sammoblie provides a multiupload link for my firmware UNDOWLOADABLE, so how do i get it? ive searched google. im furstrated, this forum has been a waist of 7 days for me, i finally give up on searching for an answer and start posting, but noone is willing to help im really starting to loath the money i spent on this blated phone. why so much stress for something that initially seemed teeming with feedback??? no firmwares that i try have 850 band enabled for 3g t-mobile USA, or servicemode, odin doesn't work for me 3/4 the time, and when it does its only because heimdall is giving me trouble, i am not a dumb person, there is just SOOO much information, much of it redundant, but none pertaining to my question.

for 850 band u must looking for a modem that support it, rom it's not related to bands. so install the rom u want and then flash a 850 band modem.

My combination
[4.0.4 IMM76D][ROM] EliteV10.1 Beta (13/04/12) + [KERNEL] Semaphore ICS 1.0.0 (1.0.1s)
I think it is pretty good for daily use。

Can you give me the links to gamerzrom + the kernal?

cyanogenmod 7 is the best rom

So i just bought this GT-i9000 international GT-I9000GSMH flashed it with CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS.zip. Ran servicemode *#*#197328640#*#*, enabled all bands, then installed Mintberry-2.3.17 through CMW, then i tried different modems KC1, JVU, JVP, JVQ, JJPG, UGJL2, and the new nexus ones, kb3 kf1, NO LUCK with enabling 3G on my T-Mobile USA phone, can anyone help me, am i using the wrong rom? i like mintberry, any help greatly appriciated, ive been searching the forums with no avail, should i just stick with stock rom, maybe a stock+?

Guides I am following:

https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1022rpBQPDZvU0MAa0u6Nuvg3D9TGXrCIxlV8mDjN6us&pli=1
SSN: -I9000GSMH
I was told it is the international edition of the GT-I9000
I am unsure what firmware I started on, i think it was a JVT? I'm unsure, but that doesn't really matter, i used Heimdall, because Odin ALWAYS stops either at Initialization... or Setup Connection..., to flash JVU, then reverted to old USB drivers and used odin to install CF-ROOT JVU(works fine just to flash kernal), so my phone was rooted, i then installed mintberry through CMW AND GOT VERY COMFORTABLE WITH IT, then realized mintberry would not allow me to go into servicemode which would HOPEFULLY get me on T-Mobiles 3G network
So im reading the guide for the modem dance and it asks me to be on UGJL2, TLJL3, UGJK3, UGJK4, modem? firmware? WHAT? i go to http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ and try to download ANY of the listed firmwares, oh they are all on multiupload links, and they barred themselves from USA ISPs, so i cant download the firmwares, ive searched google, found an unuseable encrypted .rar, woo-hoo... but anyways, i downloaded the appropriate modems, used heimdall to revert back to the "oldest" firmware i can download... JVU (DUMB!!!!!), install cf-root with odin, go to servicemode and enable ONLY WCDMA 850, NO OTHERS ARE STARRED, reboot, *#0011# and it says im on the 1900 band, WTF, i try to install UGJL2, TLJL3, UGJK3, UGJK4 modems through CMW, USB cable NOT plugged in, same results. So I've failed on the 2nd step of the guide...how, i doubt its user error. $*$&#&@#&@ CURSES!!!!! i just tried to follow gamerz-roms guide to flashing his rom, BTW he provides link to mutliupload to d/l JVU, VERY UNIVERSAL, but odin screwed up when i try to install sephamore 2.5, why does odin always screw up? why doesn't anyone update their links? why cant i enable 3g on t-mobile? is there a rom that has WCDMA 850 enabled by default? i could flash my own modem through heimdall, but none seem 850 defaulted, right now im HATEHATING my phone, very frustrated, help me please
Im now trying to install JVU through heimdall, BECAUSE ODIN SUCKS! i replaced the modem file in the JVU package with the modem file in captivate-ugjk3-cwm3.zip...so i guess i'll see what happens
Well it worked once, then i tried again, but with sephamore kernal as replacement, now i get:
Handshaking with Loke...
ERROR: Failed to receive response!
Now what...

So i was able to get heimdall to work by reinstalling the drivers, unplugging usb, and removing the battery for a couple min. and i installed JVU, which i seem to have to default on...now I tried the supplied passwords on sammobile on the encrypted .rar for UGJL2, a us firmware, and one worked! but when i try to flash with odin, its an odin package, i suppose i could load through heimdall, but anyways when i try to flash with odin it fails, as does the other file UGKC1, I9000UGKC1_homebinary.tar, and I9000UGJL2_homebinary_add_param.tar, so is it impossible to revert back? i should be able to do it, maybe i'll repackage these odin files for heimdall...
if i repackage for heimdall im missing boot.bin dbdata.rfs 512.pit and firmware.xml, should i pull these from the heim jvu package i have? merge them with the KG3 files, try installing through heimdall... would that be safe since odin seems to always fail on me?

[Q] Darky's rom v 7.7 reception issue

hey guys , i have flashed several rom and i really like the look and feel of the darky's rom however i have really bad reception issue. sometimes at home where i usually have full bar i have no signals at all , or last night i was traveling to Oklahoma city with my friend who is running captivate on stock rom and he had full bar while i had no service at all ! any idea what i'm doing wrong ?
Usually better to ask in the darky thread , but anyways.
Did you flash back to stock and then upgrade to darkys or did you upgrade on top of a previous rom? If the latter, flash back to stock and reinstall.
If the former, try a different modem. I am not using the modem or kernel that came with darkys rom. I am using the kernel with speedmod and ugjl2 modem and so far I have great reception. Of course that isn't saying much as I always have great reception using my cell device (can't think of its name atm.)

You are running the I9000 version and not the captivate port. This alone wont cause problems if you have the reoriented kernel but the jpy modem you have will. I believe it does not have the 850 band. Flash a different modem from the modem thread in the development section and you should be good to go.
If im mistaken please forgive as its 7:30am and I still haven't slept yet.

thanks for your reply ! well yea i did one click odin to stock 2.1 and then flash this using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868262
and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=808286 flashing xcaliburinhand's latest reoriented kernel (odin version) with voodoo (I9000_reoriented_v2.3.0) so i'm not sure what is the issue here ... can you all guide me what modem should i use ? i was actually thinking about the same thing because i use to have a phone that didn't have 850 bad and i had this kind of issue ! so any help of how and where to get a modem to flash will be greatly appreciated !
I personally use JK4. A lot of people find that JL3 works better for them. Either way at the moment these are the top two modems available. Both can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9134296&postcount=2 and are flashable via CWM.
Also next time you are going to flash a version of Darky's just use this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890429 or any one that ytt3r starts because he ports them over to the captivate and you don't have to worry about messing with kernels or anything not working properly.
thanks i'll try it next week , since i'm running Axura 2.2 and so far i like it

Is JQ1 better than JL2 for Bell? I've been out of the loop with modem updates over the last while because I've been using JL2.
I don't know if it is better. The GPS locked almost instantly. Battery can't be commented on yet because I haven't used it long enough. One thing other people are saying is that they aren't getting any reception when they leave major cities so I depends on your location I guess. I'm with bell but in Toronto so for me it hasn't given me any problems.

[Q] 850mhz 2.3 modems?

Do any of the 2.3 based modems support 850mhz for 3g?
I've tried JVH and JVO, but neither seem grab an 850mhz signal. I've gone into secret codes and added 850 to the combi bands, but the phone never grabs 850.
This leaves me sitting on edge while at home, with weak signal. On 2.2 based roms I have no problem with the various modems that support 850mhz for 3g.
This is on a Bell i9000m.
Flash JL2, set 850 as the only one, then flash JPD then you'll be able to flash anyone you'd want.

Did as directed:
Flashed JL2, set it to 850 only, rebooted, flashed jpd, rebooted, flashed jq1, set it back to auto and added 850 to combi.
Seems to be working!

Enabling 850 band

My current modem version is I9000XXJQ1 and I have done the *#2263# drill to select 2100 & 850 bands (WCDMA) which my carrier supports.
However, when I check what is being used via *#0011#, only 2100 shows up.
I never see 850.
What am I doing wrong ?
your modem might not support the 850 mhz band, that sounds like an i9000 modem

I found the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876391
where my modem is listed as including the 850 band.
There is a comment in that thread which I don't really understand:
"A I9000 based kernel (reoriented) is required for the I9000 modems to be usable on the Captivate"
What rom/kernel are you running?
Sent from my I897 using XDA App
And it means that ur kernel needs to be based off an i9000 kernel not a i897 kernel, most kernels say in their dev thread. Have a look at the talondev thread for example
Sent from my I897 using XDA App
The thread posted is where you need to start.
As the post above says...i9000 kernel/i9000 modem...i987 kernel/i987 modem.
Follow the directions on the thread posted to the T! and you'll be fine. It is all very simple.

Would this trick allow me to lock into 850 as first choice and 2100 as the alternate ? currently it seems that 2100 always gets picked.
not sure if ur kernel is a captivate based one or not, maybe just ask in the threat what modems are compatible with it

Yes, it will
If currently I have the XXJQ1 modem which is I9000 based, should there be an issue if I switch to UGJL2 which is also listed as I9000 based?
The only problem I have with the current modem is the fact that 850 is never utilized. only 2100.
I have read posts from other captivate owners using same kernel that UGJL2 worked for them.
One question though, can I flash the modem using Recovery from the external SD card ?
Asking again if UGJL2 should work with my 2.2.1 based rom.
Using a kc1 modem on my i9000 Cappy. Have band set to automatic. Awesome speed and all bands.
Have you flashed the kc1 or was it part of the rom ? are you on 2.2.1 or 2.3 ?

Looking at the above it appears that you on a I897 rom and kernal. You would need to use an I897 based modem. I9000 modems might not work properly.
From the modem thread original post:
"A I9000 based kernel (reoriented) is required for the I9000 modems to be usable on the Captivate"
There are a few I897 modems floating around. KB1 is one and KH3 is new.
I'm a bit conused as my current modem is XXJQ1 and it is listed as I9000 based and not I897 based. the modem works fine except the fact that only band 2100 is used and not 850. How does a I9000 based modem work at all ?
Can someone explain that to me ?

So, if you download eg. Stock JVR rom from samfirmware and flash only PHONE-packet, it could work.
