Hi all,
I am having strange problems with my Galaxy Note since yesterday.
Switches to MTP automatically without connecting to PC.
Shows that it is plugged into charger and starts charging, without really plugging it to the charger.
Scans sd-card for files
Automatically turns on the screen and when I press power button it powers off completely. Still the phone keeps heating at back.
One time the phone froze and I had to remove the battery.
I would greatly appreciate any assistance.
Please note that I have unrooted and stocked phone.
I found a similar post for S2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161875).
Thanks in advance.
Your usb port has probably got some dirt in it. You can try using nail polish and something like a toothbrush To clean it. I did this, but it only worked temporarily for me. I had to send it in after that and they fixed it, covered by my warranty. Good luck!

Thanks. Don't you think nail polish remover may harm the internals.
Just let it dry for at least 20 minutes before you use it afterwards. And if you are worried. Then don't use too much of it If you search the forum for car mode/voice/usb issues, you will see alot of people have the same problem. And the brushing helped for alot of them. I am no expert though. So search around abit and see what you find!

Guys if cleaning the usb port aint working then we have to find other ways to indirectly stop problems.
Problem: Driving Mode goes on/off automatically, causing battery drain
Reason: Phone thinks its connected to a dock
Solution:When phone thinks its connected to a dock, it switches to car mode. This is a default action. What if we are able to disable this default action, so even if the phone thinks its connected to a car, it wont switch driving mode on! There are 2 ways to achieve this.
1.Someone please explain how to disable the inbuilt driving mode in galaxy phones.
2.Another app, which overrides the inbuilt one, which can be disabled temporarily!
Problem:Battery not charging
Reason:Crazy USB port and ****ty samsung parts
Solution: External Charger!(Optional: +1 Battery)
Keep thinking of ways to overcome this guys, unfortunately the phones that face this problem are very expensive(S2,Note,Nexus etc.)

Hey guys i just bought a nook color and had it shipped to my country but i think i am already regretting it now.
The touch screen starts behaving very weird randomly at any times, it automatically registers touches and keyboard automatically typing own it own, and what ever i touch just goes straight to hell and this continues as long a i don't lock and unlock it again.
Even when i am reading it automatically starts zooming.
I was think about rooting it and installing a custom Rom, will that fix the problem? because giving it back to B&N is not an option for me.
Also i don't have screen guard, and the screen is always smudged with fingerprints, can that trigger this sort of behavior?
I'm using mine in Australia and have a similar problem but only when using the supplied USB cable to charge it.
I've heard stories about faulty USB cables which might be the case as I don't have this problem when I use the cable for my desire. The problem with this is that the cable isn't long enough for practical use and the supplied cable apparently has extra pins which would explain why it still discharges (although slower) when using my desire micro USB cable.
For now I'm limited to only using my nook without the cable plugged in but I'm thinking about finding another cable as sending it back to B&N and then paying to ship it back here isn't really a viable option.
Let me know if you figure something out though.
Well the one with usb cable is a known issue and u can still use it otherwise, mine just happens randomly at any time, its almost unusable.
Does installing a custom rom help?
It wouldn't hurt to try. I know some kernals make changes to the touchscreen sensitivity but I don't know whether that would apply to your problem or not. A nook is very easy to un-root anyways so as far as I know (and don't quote me on this), you should be able to return it if you absolutely have to.
Don't give up though. I'm loving mine and for the price it's an awesome little accessory when it works.
Hi,
Make sure to clean the touch screen - last night I had a different looking
smudge on my screen that was causing huge problems - as soon as I cleaned
it off, back to normal. Are you in a humid location? Condensation will cause
problems too.
Also you may want to search for 'calibrate' in the forums, there is a way to
recalibrate the touchscreen sensitivity, I believe that this is mostly for
low sensitivity at the corners though.
Here are two links I found:

Good luck!

My touch screen acts up as well. I turn the screen off for a couple minutes to "reset" it. It will work OK for a little, then it goes back to wonky.
Hey guys i finally found a solution to this problem, well my touch screen is behaving normally when its not not connected to the power cable. I hope thats a solution good enough for you.
Just go to
h**p://nookdevs.com/Recalibrate_the_NookColor_touch_screen
I tried all the custom roms but that didn't help very much, so i tried this on CM7
and so far my screen is giving totally normal tests results when not plugged in and lets hope that it stays that way.
My daughter had a similar wonky-screen problem when she plugged in a particular set of portable music player speakers. Not another pair she has, just that one.
And I was able to replicate it on my nook. It wasn't specific to her nook.
okay, it seems that my excitement didn't last that long but
After a lot of testing, it turned out that the only problems was my oily or moist fingers.
so i got a screen guard and tested it for more than two hours and i haven't had any problems yet. So even if i do see that happening again, once in two hours is not that bad.

So just two days ago one morning i woke up unplugged my note from the wall charger and i noticed the charging symbol didnt go away. so i plugged it back in and took it out and it was still there i even reset it i rebooted it and it still showed it was charging somehow. After a cuple or reboots everything went back to normal. i ignored the problem now today two days later the note starts vibrating out of no were multiple times like crazy. It acts like if i was plugging the charger in and out of it one second it shows its charging next second its back to normal. It keeps doing this back and forths its bein 10mins now and its still vibrating. The only way to make it stop is to actually have it plugged into the wall. Oh by the way im running rocket rom v20 & abyass kernel 3.4 on it any suggestions? I allready called samsung they just said sorry they couldnt do anything about it

If nothing else works try a factory reset *2767*3855#, backup your files first and remove the sd card before doing that. I hope it returns to normal than.

I think it was software related because i did a nandroid back up to my original stock rom and everything is fine now ive unpluged it and plugged it back in like 20 times now also rebooted it and it has not showed up again

Jesus and all saints bless you. Congrats!
Sorry to break your happy bubble, its not a software problem but rather a hardware defect in the usb port of the note. I have this problem and so do many others. This problem was also noted in many galaxy s2 phones. You can do all the resets or flash stock roms but the problem can come back at any time. My theory is the custom cover for the galaxy note. Mine has a small opening for the usb port so when I would push in my usb cable, it would settle in at a slight angle. this caused my usb cable connector to bent in a slight angle and hence, causing the pins inside the phone to also bend in the same angle. the dirt inside the usb pins can also cause the issue but I cleaned mine with alcohol and nail polish remover. My problem still exists. Then I tried the push the pins down towards the back of the phone and, again, no positive results. Now when I disconnect my usb cable, I push it down a bit and then slowly disconnect it from my phone. this is working fine for me so far. As soon as the usb part becomes available on ebay, I am buying it and installing it inside my note.
By the way, there are a few threads on this issue already.
good luck.

Hi All,
I am using a LG P970 and since yesterday it is showing a headset sign on the screen whereas there is no headset connected on the phone due to which I am not able to use the phone without the headset. I have never used a headset on this phone wondering what is happening.
Also, as soon as i connect a headset it starts playing the music. However it works fine on Bluetooth which I use often.
Any ideas on how can i get rid of this sign and use my phone normally.
Please help.
Thanks
Try to reboot the phone

Thanks for the quick response. Already rebooted my phone a few times. Removed the battery also but same problem.
Just did a factory reset of the phone also but the problem did not get rectifed.
This happened in my LG GT540, i used to plug in a headset and unplug it and that would work, after a while it came back, then i sprayed some WD40 on the tip of the headset plug, and pluged into the phone and fixed it... for a while
If your phone still in warranty, just take it to LG
Hope it helps
Happened to me after my son spewed water on the phone. A good cleaning with a table napkin and inserting/removing the earphone did the trick.
There might be something that's causing the plug to think there's something in it. If you're lucky a bit of cleaning is all that's needed.
It also happened to me after a big rain. There is water or some metallic debris in the connector. Blow it really well, or use a dryer on a very low or even cold setting. if there is water it could cause a short so be careful!
Happened to me too, cuz a friend accidentaly splashed a beer on it ! for me the headset icon apparead everytime i approched the hand near the proximity sensors...so i couldnt call anymore. Send it to assistance!
Just air you might have something shorting out the connector in the phone

Thanks everyone. When I cleaned the headset jack on the phone with air and some clips (after I powered off the phone) it worked. But unfortunately, I had already done a factory reset of the phone prior to doing all this as I was not able to use my phone.
Thanks again.

Have the Galaxy Note N7000 running ICS/4.0.4
As per the thread title, 'in car mode' keeps activating itself every few seconds. I don't have the phone docked! This is rendering the device useless as I simply cant use it while it does this.
Has anyone any experience with this? How can I deactivate in car mode forever!?
Could be a problem with the use port on phone. Check for dust buildup. Try cleaning it up. If that does not solve, may be you need a new one

Thanks. Stuck it under a vacuum - seems to be better. I no longer have the cycling of car mode on/off all the time - which was rendering the phone completely useless. The problem did come back to a lesser extent (kept making some sort of noise - so not sure what it was triggering). Vacuumed it out again - and that's resolved.
I now have audio notification of emails - I'm not sure if thats in error or I somehow enabled that feature as part of troubleshooting this. Where are the settings for that feature?

I guess I can look into that. I'm not sure if I'm covered. The phone was originally purchased in Poland with an 18 month warranty. I bought it second hand. It is within warranty - but I'm not sure if samsung will honour the warranty over here (i'm in Ireland)......?
worth a try. but if not, its not very hard to replace the part yourself. you can get the part on ebay or amazon. and lot of videos on youtube on how to
Are you on stock rom and have you tryed a factory restart I have had the same issue on some customer roms and after flashing new rom the problem is gone could also be caused by an app causing problems as well and usually a bad USB port will cause charging issues and charge on/off with charger unplugged

Yes, it would be a stock rom. I have resisted a factory reset - as I don't want to disturb the applications and stuff I have configured on the phone (unless I really have to).....although I guess I had not really considered this to be a software/firmware issue up until now....
I can't say I have experienced any charging issues. I guess I will check when my warranty runs out - and in the meantime, see if the problem comes back with a vengence. If so, I guess I will have to take one step or another.
Check the wiki also
They do get dirty!
Also, you might want to turn it off, or pull the battery, take a clean cloth with some alcohol on it, and swab out the port. Mine has some green stuff (corrosion?) built up around the back of the connector, overlapping the pins.

i just made a post regarding this earlier tonight = / and the car mode is now happening to me now. I called htc support like 5 hours ago and they were absolutely no help at all. "reboot your phone into safe mode" did that "is the problem still occurring?" why yes it is still not charging when on... then they say it must be a hardware problem and to use my warranty and thanked me for my patience and please continue using htc.
I dont know why they have tech support that does not know how to support a recent common occurring problem. I don't even mind the warranty phone as much but i just took a ton of photos and videos the last month and i cant even back them up to my computer now.

Hey after reading through that other thread i did what they said about turning off the developer options and fast boot and it seems to be charging when plugged into the wall but it still will not connect to the computer. Also seems like the car mode is not turning on any more and after resetting it a few times earlier the apps do not open in landscape. So the only issue that remains is the usb connection to the computer although the whole situation is still ridiculous and i do not know how htc wants to pass it off as a hardware issue = / if you find a solution please let me know.

After I restart my phone by pressing volume down key and power key with charger plugged in, it starts to charge and also charge when connected to pc but pc wont detect it. No USB drive no syn manager. (note- I dont not enter bootloader by restarting. just leave power and volume down key immediately after screen is off, else u will get in Bootloader.)
I cant even root.
Any way I think i will sell this phone if no problem occurs.
Regards,
Also if i change any setting regarding USB connection type or developers option or fast boot option and charging stops and i have to again plug in charger and start with power and volume down key.
Other than that some problems keep rising like speaker get on automatically when i take call , dial screen rotates, it keep asking "complete action with day dream or Tunein radio"

Doesn´t seem to be too unsusual.
My phone (unrooted) began with the not charging problem after about three weeks. There is also a notification telling that I should connect a charger that is supported (shouldn't the original charger from HTC be supported). About at the same time it also decided that all apps should run in landscape mode and it at the same time become a painful thing to answer the phone by routine as it decided to activate the loudspeaker.
The problems are however quite intermittent and disappears and comes back without any known trigger.
I had the device on service when they updated firmware, run what ever tests they run and tried to charge it. All tests passed and I got it back. Everything seemed ok but day two the phone refused to charge again. Back to the store again where they also tried to charge but (luckily enough) got the same result as I.
It seems like if the battery is totally drained, the device starts charging after some while. Before it starts charging as it should, the red light goes on and off for some time.
I have exactly the same symptoms with my HTC One. It does not change until it's fully empty and turned off. Then it does change. The orange LED blinks 5 times and after that it start blinking very slowly.
I sended my phone on repair. True a webportal Im able to see any progression. I noticed they also uploaded a photo, see attachment.
It clearly seems to be missing a small element on the motherboard. (near the arrow). What I find weird thought, is that it seems to be the head of the phone and not the bottom near the USB port.
They also had some trouble opening the device as you can see between the two white stickers on the bottom of the phone. I'll keep you posted on any progression...

It didn`t always start charging. Sometimes I have had to plug the connector in 10 or 20 times before anything happened. Otherwise it did not start charging until the battery was completely drained.
Everytime it does not charge, the little icon in the left corner tells me that I should connect a supported device.
I sent a question to HTC support about the problem and got the recommendation to send it to a repair center (where it already is) and they actually gave an answer on my question if HTC are aware about the problems. The answer was "We know about it and work on a solution".
Interesting if that actually is true and not just a too quick answer from someone that wanted to close the case at the a technical support.
Has anybody else asked the question?
Any one having charging and USB problem with HTC One had ever charged his/her phone by any other charger (not the charger u get in box) even for once ? I did that all the time !!!
Yeah, I always used a Samsung charger with mine and it works a treat, I just sent mine back to my network provider and they sent it off for repair, obviously, they put it down as a hardware issue and replaced the damaged device with a refurbished device which I don't care about because of rather have one that works than not
