Hi guys, the galaxy s usb is damaged since 5 months ago and i'm trying to root my phone because i want use mobile odin to upgrade...gingerbread 2.3.3, that i have now is full of bugs, so i would get 2.3.5...please help me, i will give you 1$ paypal to thank if you want

you can try z4root or universal androot , or other apk that work nice with froyo, but not with gingerbread
so even the addresses z4root
What I would do is:
1. Download SGS kernel flasher from market.
2. Download latest Speedmod kernel from : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044519
3. Use SGS kernel flasher to back up existing kernel and then flash Speedmod kernel.
4. Reboot into recovery (Turn phone off first. Then Power button, volume up and home button. Let go of home button when display comes on.)
5. Choose advanced speedmod features and then install superuser/root. Navigate recovery with volume up/down, select with power button.
6. Choose go back and then Reboot.
You should now be rooted (see if superuser app is in apps)

Just a thought, is usb debugging on? Menu, settings, applications, development. If usb debugging is ticked, untick it and see if the pc recognises it then.
1. call *#1234# on your phone and check what's written behind PDA
2. download the corresponding file from this thread if you are able to find it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
3. Follow the "instructions (long)" in the previously mentioned thread
4. be glad, that it's rooted
otherwise let us know what you receive on step 1
[edit] forget it - i didn't consider the usb-problem, so I know only this option for SGS+:
here you should try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253707
but according to the comment above, you could also check what's activated here:
> Menu > Settings > Wireless and network > USB settings > "Samsung Kies" or "Media player" or "Mass storage" - I'd recommend the last option for your circumstances!
I have tried anything to connect my phone with usb but i have resolved nothing..so my last solution would be "apply update.zip from sdcars" in recovery, and update from there, bur i need a signed update.zip that kies creates automatically in sdcard when you update your firmware

Does it charge when you plug in the usb cable?
and have you tried with an other usb cable?
if it charges, uninstall and install kies again to get the latest usb drivers,
if that does not work you could download and install android SDK and download the usb drivers from SDK manager.exe under "other"
Here is an guide for how to set up Android SDK and manually set the right driver if it doesnt detect it automaticly:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/
Hope this helps, Android is so much more with root!

Maybe u should download and install the Samsung driver manually first. Then Install and start Kies. This was the solution for me in that situation

yes but kies just contains the drivers!

I know but sometimes kies is crashing during the driver installation and don't show that to the user.
BTW: kies isn't very comfortable and very laggy on win 7 and /or other 64 bit system's. Just install the drivers manually and flash a stock it clean custom GB ROM to get a good start. But that's my opinion

I agree, but if you have 32 bit system it is stable enough, however better install only drivers after you have found them!

Earlier I was trying to upgrade the firmware via Kies and something went wrong. My Note is now stuck with a " Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". But when you try to connect to Kies via usb then nothing happens and is unable to connect.
What are my alternatives to get my phone working again?
next to following the recovery mode steps, usb connection troubleshooting, etc in Kies,
you can get phone into download mode and flash the desired rom throught pc odin See dr Ketans thread in sticky section original development

Can't seem to do it via Kies anymore since when I plug it via USB to KIES - its just says "connecting" the whole time until it times out. Sucks that this could happen even if i'm using the Kies software. Such a hassle.
Looking over dr ketans thread, would it matter which country ROM one uses from the list? What are the pros and cons?
Enter in download mode and flash the .tar file via pc odin

Hello a little help please. I can't install ADB driver so I Can connect my phone in fastboot mode. It happens that installation crashes every time no matter the driver version nor the source I download it from. I think it's related to the fact that the computer I have access to has a illegal windows version 'cause every time it crashes a window pops up with the warning of been victim of software falsification. So, Is there any way of achieve a successful installation in this computer?
AW: Install Motorola ADB Interface Drivers
There is an way, but XDA is not the right Place to talk about warez and cracking

I think I bricked my device. not sure as i've never bricked anything before. it was rooted, and I had CWM and TWRP on it with a recovery. But it appears as though that doesn't matter lol. screen comes on and all that displays is the word Sony...and that just sits there forever. then if I connect a USB nothing happens.
Then when I dont turn it on, and connect a usb It connects but i haven't a clue if that will help at all as the device absolutely refuses to turn on when connected...Very sad day for me.

my problem is that device is pattern locked and asking for a google sign in verification but my data connection or wireless isn't turned on
i tried android multitools but no success device isn't detected by that tool, the problem seems to be when in download mode windows shows the error message "The last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioed and windows does not recognize it." When i tried to enter recovery mod(stock) after showing the animation for a short while device continued to boot. What should i do ? I prefer to not to lose any data (thats why i used android multitools) but incase rest is the only way im ready for it Please help Me....:crying:
Has your computer ever worked with download mode? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling your USB driver's. From there you can flash a semaphore TAR from Odin and hopefully get access back to recovery. and from there use a pattern reset tool found on Google.

unless you can get it into download mode or recovery you won't be able to do anything with phone. Try another USB cable or the Samsung driver set from the "apps and themes" section on this I9000 XDA forum
