It would spoil the whole all-in-one thing it has going on. If you're gonna carry a phone on the side, you might as well get a full size tablet.

If you want it as a media player, the WIFI Galaxies are fine but they are NOT in anyway comparable to the Note.
A quick rundown on the main things I think make the difference; 5.0 inch Galaxy WIFI vs Note.
1GHz single core - 1.4GHz dual core
Original SGS unit? - SGS2 Mali400
512mb RAM - 1GB
800x480 screen - 1280x800 screen
So if you are planning to also use apps and browse the web, the Note is by far and a way a better device. Of course it costs more but you get what you pay for many times over IMO.
As a PMP? The Note is better than any Cowon I have seen so far. Gorgeous 5.3 inch screen (biggest Cowon was 4+ inches IIRC), high resolution screen and it doesn't look like the bricks Cowon puts out in this display range.

Better than a Cowon as a pmp....repeat a pmp? You are massively misinformed and probably have never used a Cowon product. The Z2 blows any other pmp away and all while not suffering from nasty black clipping

It's all subjective but the main reason I prefer the Note over the Cowons is the bigger, higher resolution screen which makes watching videos a more pleasant experience. I'm not sure what black clipping is, but I've had no problems watching videos on my Note.
Please give your reasons for claiming that Cowon is better rather than just throwing slander about. I've already given the parameters by which I judge these devices so lets have both sides of the argument.

Do you really need 1080p screen, quad core CPU on a such small mobile device? Do you REALLY need that much processing power? Most apps are optimized to work only on single core CPUs. Dual core CPUs are good, I agree, but quads are just pointless waste of resources. They have to improve dual core technology to provide better battery savings, not make battery issues even worse by adding 2 additional cores. Also this huge resolution of a such small screen. Who needs it? You won't see any difference in the resolutions above 800x480 (WVGA), this huge pixel density is pointless.
Most important can it make you a sandwich lol

Not sure how that will work based on the screens/mock ups. The fleshy bit of your thumb is going to cause the screen to register the touch. It happens on my Nexus one. Hopefully they put a lip or something on the edge surrounding the screen.

You do realize you're only going to get biased answers here, right?
I went for the Note because it has a bigger screen, a stylus, a replaceable battery and an sdcard slot.
Likewise...mainly for the screen size... I mean I have friends who all have 4.6 in down and it looks absolutely normal from spectator's, I on the other hand love the attention - yrs spec wise HTC one x does outweigh the phablet - you can compare this to apple laptops vs Sony, HP... the Macs have the lower specs overall yet people buy it for its unique looks and simplicity...(probably why the upcoming windows 8 look so much simpler than W7)
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
It pretty much come down to this
GNote: Battery life and huge beautiful screen
One X: Quad-core
I don't think quad is needed as of now, so I would pick the GNote
Another "me-too" phone with higher-end specs (One X) vs. a genuinely unique, niche device (phablet with Wacom digitizer; N7000).
Seems like two different markets.
the main improvements over the note come from the one x's quad core CPU. if you compare them both in GPU benchmarks at the same ressy, they both perform quite similarly. when nvidia announced that the tegra3 would be 3x faster... they were comparing it to the tegra2.
so the main improvement will be in web browsing (android browser supports quads), smoother interface, and improvements in apps that support multicores (very few do aside from benches).
the only thing that peeves me about the one x is that it doesnt have a microsd slot, but im sure i can work around that with a usb on the go adapter since the htc one x supposedly has an mhl port.
at the moment, im just waiting for the other quad core phones to launch to see if there are any gems. the LG 4X interests me with its expandable storage (support for 64gb microSD), but it doesnt support the 850mhz band on 3G which would be bad for me since vodafone AU has a better 850mhz network than it does with its 900mhz network. theres also the galaxy s3 (same mali gpu but with quad core, so should perform on par with tegra3) and theres a fujitsu tegra 3 phone that has a 13.1mp camera and expandable storage coming soon as well, which should be quiet interesting.
i generally buy my phones outright... so when theres competition, theres a price drop, and thats a win for everyone!
Im gona put my Note in the drawer until ICS and probably get an One X just because i wanna surf the web from its stock web browser flawlessly in contrast to Note's choppy stock browser that loses its hardware acceleration all the time which is a big let down for me.

Galaxy Note
I was able to play with a demo unit of the HTC One X and I have to be frank after having used the Galaxy Note since November the screen size and quality has just become so familiar that holding anything smaller just feels odd. I might be biased to the Galaxy Note for now as there doesn't seem to be any apps that utilize all four cores and any gaming I might do would be on a PS Vita or Nintendo DS.

Yeah, if the footprint stayed the same, and that Note had only the screen size increased, why not?
Screen Sizes v. Penis Sizes
Ok, in this world, Penises come in three sizes and girls will say the following:
You call that a penis?
Nice Penis.
You ain't putting that thing in me.
Cell Phones have three sizes along the same lines. Saying 6 inches is too big is akin to Apple saying that their ipad mini has 47% more usable screen size in the .8" of space or whatever it is. Me, I am used to be told the last option. Yes, I would buy a 6 inch phone.
6" at 1080p would be perfect for me. Obviously depending on hardware specs.

for me note I screen size is the perfect size for the phablet category:
- it's clearly bigger than the phones category to offer a differentiated experience and more functionality
- aspect ratio is better than the narrower 16/9 for note II
- 5,3 is already on the limit of being pocketable however i havent tested how note II feel in the pocket
for me the AR is the key advantage of the noteI screen, so for next note i'd prefer to have this same size with smaller/thinner body
I find 5.3" is still abit too small, 6" would be perfect.

Noone will put a 4k display to 5" phone, thats plain stupid so this one you may drop.
Snapdragon 800 will be more likely used in tablets, so i also dont expect it to be in next Nexus device , it will most probably will be SD600 like in other top models this year.
Ill bet for 1080P , 5" screen (which is also useless in phone, but everyone got it so Google will also). 2GB of ram (who needs more in a phone?)
No sdcard slot, no removable battery - standard in google phones.
the most major change will be the OS, KLP will most probably be pushed to phones after I/O.

Way below norm.people are and will eventually flock once out of a contract fir a 249$ phone. Second nexus strives now(not the gnex albeit a good phone) to be the top o line device. Curious if any note owners who skipped the note 2 consider the mega 6.3 as a worthy upgrade over the original note?
I thought bigger would be better until I compared it in the flesh with my note, deffo way to big for a phone I'd give it a week of somone grabbing it from ur ear (as it litterly looks like a brick) or I'd be claiming insurance on it cause I don't have any items of clothing with pockets that deep to keep it in..still a nice phone but there's probably still a market for that size but just not for me..

Performance wise did the mega feel snappier than the note?
I've had my note for two years and I am always up against the low ram as I multi task a lot. I prefer to not have my browser kill itself when I go to use other apps. Also I wish my note was faster.
I was hoping the mega would resolve these performance issues. I love the big screen and the lcd since it will be much better to view in daylight.
Thanks
Unfortunately I couldn't compare speed as it was one those kiosks with the phone but just abit of printed card in display as the phone isnt out until sometime in july, but got a good comparison in sizes..my notes running fast enough for what I use it for with most up to date s4 mods think il be happy enough until the note 3 arrives...HOPEFULLY..

I woild not consider it an upgrade. Specs are low, and iirc its 720p just like the note 2. If anything the kega is a downgrade. Unless your primary use of your "phone" is to watch youtube, its a downgrade. Not saying its a bad product at all here, just i would keep my used, 800p phone over gettimg a brand new mega.

Exactly as ur already unhappy with the ram the mega is indeed a downgrade from note 2
As the note 2 has 2gb of ram and the mega only has 1.5gb and I don't think the processor is as good either so if ur lookin the bigger screen then like myself hold off until the release of note 3..

It would be better of getting the xperia z ultra rather than the mid range galaxy mega which to me is still expensive. The z ultra is bigger, better, faster, STRONGER than the mega and is water resistant too. So if you are a gamer, web browser, video watcher or anyone who plays around with their phone a lot and likes huge @55 phones should not buy the mega. Samsung made the mega mostly for the 'poor' customers who are korean. If they were to make it into a high end phablet then some of their customers might complain. So for those of you who are wealthy here just get the z ultra. Just saying
It's not an upgrade. The Note 2 is of course, but at this point wait three months and get a Note 3.

If note 3 does not come with better design i think i'll choose for galaxy mega since the performance of the mega is really acceptable at leat for me.

The Mega 6.3 destroys the Note 1 in benchmarks and is on par with the Note 2. It's not for me but if you like the size and don't need the S-pen it's a decent option especially since it's priced below flagship level.
As someone who owned an original Note and now owns a Mega, I'll say this: The mega is much, much faster! :good:
It's only dual core but the cores are Krait 300 cores, not A9's like in the Note/Note 2. That means single threaded performance is a lot better - and other than benchmarks and games, most apps are single threaded. To use, the device is as quick as the S4 (snapdragon version is the one I've played with) and nearly as fast as my Nexus 4 was.
As for the screen: Other than being 720p, it's top notch. Colours, contrast, refresh time etc.

Here are the Mega 6.3 benchmarks. In fact it beats the Note 2 solidly on most of them and it would completely destroy the Note 1.

Why do most reviews say it has low specs and is laggy, then?

I haven't read too many Mega reviews. Do they in fact say that? In terms of specs they are probably comparing to the GS4 whereas in this thread we are comparing with the Note 1.
