[Q] How can I tell if my HTC HD7 sim unlocked? - HD7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know this may be a ridiculous question, but since I bought my HTC HD7 from eBay and the seller claims that it is "Unlocked", rather than taking their word for it, I just want to be positive.
I took the back casing off and I can see that there is no sim inserted. When I turn it on, it says "SIM error - The SIM card is missing or invalid".
The whole reason that I'm interested in knowing this is because I am thinking of using ansar.ath.gr's SLSPL ROM to lower the bootloader version of the device.
Here are the details from the phone:
Carrier: T-Mobile US
OS version: 7.10.7740.16
Firmware revision number: 2250.21.51004.531
Radio software version: 5.71.09.02a_22.51.50.21U
Bootloader Version: 5.10.2250.0(132968)
I have booted the phone while holding the volume down button and I can see the word SERIAL, so I know it isn't halfbricked.
ansar.ath.gr has claimed that there should be no risk in attempting to flash the SLSPL ROM to a TMobile US phone --- the one thing that concerns me is that I'm not positive if the phone is in fact SIM unlocked.
Also, is the "//// ROM installation instructions ////" section an elaboration of step 2, or step 3 from ansar.ath.gr's SLSPL ROM thread?
Thank you in advance.

insert a non-TMoUS SIM.
also. the will not make your TMoUS device magically into a Europe device.
ansar's SLSPL will not work.

Thanks man. According to ansar.ath.gr, some people were able to flash the SLSPL ROM to their TMobile US phone (think they mentioned it on page 2) so I just tried it and got the invalid vendor ID message.
It looks like it will be goldcard method for me.
Thanks.

insert a non-TMoUS SIM.

Need further help determining if my HTC HD7 is unlocked
Please pardon any incorrect methods of posting upon these forums. This seemed like the most logical place to ask since it already adressed my questions and was posted relatively recently.
Regarding the questions and answers already provided...
"insert a non-TMoUS SIM." and look for what? Indicating what?
In other words I have an HTC HD7 from t mobile. I've inserted an AT&T Sim It powers on and I receive this message:
Warning
there is no sim card, PIN code has not
been entered or the phone is in airplane
mode.
Please insert SIM card, enter PIN code, or
turn off airplane mode to use Connection
Setup.
So what does it mean? I paid to have it unlocked but since there is no simple way to check this I have no idea if it worked or not. To add to the confusion I was on my 4th. attempt, (1 remaining), when I entered the code provided and the screen asking for said code disappeared. So I assumed the unlocking procedure worked but never had anyway to verify this at the time, (approx. 1 month ago).
Now I have my doubts because of the a fore mentioned warning screen and for the fact I can't get any *.XAP to install to the phone. Now I'm not smart man but after, say 2 maybe three days of trying different things, I think something would have worked but haven't had any luck with the selections sourced here on the XDA site.
So now I just want to reduce things down to the level of fruit flies and simply find out if the phone is hard locked or if indeed it is unlocked and my woes are coming from something else - the later case a subject for another post entirely.
I suppose I should provide the following about my phone:
OS ver. 7.10.8107.79
Firmware rev. # 2250.21.51202.531
HW rev. # 0002
Radio software ver. 5.71.09.02a_22.51.50.21U
Radio HW ver. A>12.0.D4
Bootloader ver. 5.12.2250.0(135916)
Chip SOC ver. 2.2.5.0
Phone HTC HD7
Carrier is T mobile
Computer used with device runs windows 7 64 current
I look forward to any information you may provide regarding the current state on my phone in regards it's locked or unlocked status.
Thank you in advance for your time and patience

HTC ATT tilt 8925 PROBLEM!

Hi all ,
I've a little problem but I don't understand if it's hardware or software:
Few days ago, I bought a HTC ATT Tilt 8925 from an Italian user (here in Italy but he has bought it in USA) that gave it to me with a Vega R2 ROM (WM6.1)installed and a little problem, the SIM try to connect than it says "SIM Missing" and after few times (opening the slide panel and going offline online the phone SIM connect right. To improve the quality of signal and appareance of OS I flashed the Radio with 1.71.09.01.eMo and flashed the OS with th custom ROM named shifu v.4.3 ITA (WM6.5).
Here is the trouble, the phone now always say "SIM Missing" and only WIFI and BT go right and no signal from 3G or GSM antenna.
I try to put a little paper inside the SIM dock but the situation never change.
Can this be a HW or SW problem?
Thank you all in advance.
One little thing, to have a custom ROM installed the before user has used a SSPL 1.0 by olinex and HardSPL 3.29 (cmonex) as I saw flashing by the bootloader (trying to flash KAISDIAG and KAISIMG from HardSPL 3.29 for SD by cmonex).
I hope he made SIM and CID unlocking (can be this last thing that before user hadn't done???)
Moved as not ROM Development, the noobs guide to flashing contains info needed to flash H-SPL and also sim unlock.
Wasn't 100% sure on your question as if not sim unlocked then you can't use a different sim than original carrier.
I've just made all the procedure from the first step to the last.
Even if the KaiserUnlocker Check said me that my phone was already SIM unlocked I remade all and the problem it's the same.
The SIMs that I have try are CoopVoce and MTVMobile (Virtual operator both served by TIM, the main operator here in Italy).

Are you on a custom CID ? On a custom ROM? If yes, change them back to the original and it'll work.

This is purely anecdotal but the phone I had before this was the s2 LTE model on AT&T, when they gave me the code it kept saying it was unsuccessful until I ran out of attempts. However when I actually put in a t-mobile sim card it worked fine and it was fully unlocked. Maybe try that?

You do know that to unlock the phone you need a SIM card from a different company inside the phone so that it asks for Network Unlock Code... SIM Lock is not the same...

Obviously phone is asking for sim network unlock code when we put non accepted sim card. So phone is not unlocked. We do quite a lot unlocking and few phones get this error, we have to refund customer but I am seeking solution for it. It is only in Android phones (HTC and Samsung).. Samsung's we usually unlock using unlocking boxes but HTC One is not supported other than code. (Setool support older HBOOT).

AT&T HTC One on Vodaphone in NZ

I'm from the US and am in New Zealand for a month. I own an HTC One which I purchased from AT&T and have been using on their network in the States. I've unlocked the phone, and also have S-Off. I've purchased a prepaid SIM card from Vodaphone in New Zealand. When I insert the SIM card, the phone asks me for the 8 digit SIM unlock code, so I entered the 8 digit PUK code provided by Vodaphone with the SIM. The phone tells me this code is invalid. I'm not quite sure why this isn't working - is it possible I need to load a different firmware to use the phone in New Zealand?
Kernel is 3.4.10-g31f7883
Firmware looks like 3.62.401.1
I'm currently using ViperOne ROM.
Certainly appreciate any input on this issue.
Thanks,
Josh
Well, I did not realize that bootloader unlock and SIM unlock are two different things. That's a bit confusing. Wish I had figured that out prior to flying here.

If I remember correctly (this is all from memory), for the unlock code to work, you need
1) correct (original) CID and MID
2) stock ROM (some were able to do it on custom ROMs, but not sure if all work or only certain ones)
3) stock firmware for above ROM
4) stock recovery
5) LOCKED or RELOCKED bootloader
6) S-Off won't matter, and that will be your ticket to unlock again
you can search the forum here for SIM UNLOCK, there are quite a few similar cases, which got solved by a combination of points 1 through 5.
If anyone stumbles onto this thread in the future...
Turns out I needed a code from AT&T, as I needed to carrier unlock the phone before being able to use the Vodaphone SIM. I tried contacting AT&T to get the code, but they won't give it to you unless you are out of contract.
I was able to get an unlock code using option 5 in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2242473
I loaded a stock ROM, but left the bootloader and my custom recovery on there, and the unlock code worked just fine.

[Q] Sprint locked M8 har/kar edition in Europe S-ON

Hello. I've got a Sprint locked M8 har/kar edition. I have intention to use it in Eastern Europe. Unfortunately it came with updated software version and firewater didn't work. Rumrunner installation looks like goes fine - says me to wait 30 seconds, pray and turn on my phone. Did this twice and boths times my phone was actually turned on when this message appears. Bootloader stills shows me S-ON.
I did unlock via Htcdev, Root, TWRP 2.8.0.6 Unofficial. Installed the Viper. I think Ill try Bad Boyz aswell very soon.
Code:
ViperOne M8 2.4
htc sdk api 6.25
prl version 51101
kernel [email protected]#1
baseband ver 1.08.20.0612_4
build number 2.16.654.4 cl357420
Bootloader says
Code:
tampered
unlocked
M8_whl Ship S-ON
HBOOT- 3.18.0.0000 ; (((
RADIO- 1.08.20.0612_4
OpenDSP-v45.2.2-00542-M8974_HM.042
OS0 2.16.654.4
Now I'm stucked on getting S-OFF on my lovely device.. The problem is my phone doesn't want to hear about any sim cards, in this state.
I've saw something about sim unlock but I am not sure does it could help me as my sim works on any device. Or it's meant something else?
These frequences are used here.
Code:
2G capabilities
GSM 900, GSM 1800
3G capabilities
UMTS 900, UMTS 2100
4G capabilities
LTE 1800 ( still not in use at all)
I would like to beg for your help! I am stucked. I would purchase sunshine, if it's the only S-OFF option for me, but I am not sure would S-OFF unlock the device in order to work with any sim and am I going to have additional troubles with band frequencies or not.
Thank you very much for your kindness!
s-off does not unlock the SIM, there are further steps, but I would bite the bullet & pay for sunshine

Thank you very much for your answer! I still have doubts is s-off 100% required to make my phone work on these frequences and other than Sprint network? My main target is to start using the phone, S-off is on second place 'for me. The second topic doesn't say anything about s-off, but I have still not tried it, because I am not sure do I have to flash this with TWRP or? If so, after reboot there will be installed program called terminal emulator in which I do the rest? Thanks again! ) :fingers-crossed:
p.s. A good question asked by a colleague - does imei unlock code (those who has to be bought) will also make the phone work on these frequences or it will only unlock the device but it still would be unusable because of band differences?
Is it required any sim be inside the device when using firewater or rumrunner? Is it a problem if it's inside?
Regards.

In order to SIM unlock your own phone you need to be S-Off. I don't know if unlock codes will work or not and from what I read Sprint tells you it has to be on a Sprint network to send it an unlock code. I suspect the person that sells the unlock codes would be able to tell you if they can unluck the Sprint variant of the M8. When I unlocked mine (I'm S-Off and follow the instructions in the Bad BoyZ thread) I wasn't able to get the 2100 band to work until I followed the steps in the Enabling 3G (UMTS) in all the countries thread in general.
To me if it were a matter of spending ~15 euro on Firewater or ~10 Euro on an unlock code I'd do Firewater. S-Off is easy with that and the SIM unlock took about 2 minutes after that. That route also gives you the ability to enable to 2100 band if you need it.
Hope this helps you.

Thank you very much for your clear answer! Unfortunately it's all about the money ( i don't have). Today my bank informed me that my account is closed due to no recent activity and the money i was waiting to receive are gone.... paypal - 0.01$.
I have installed Bad Boyz Rom with my current hboot and radio, which looks absolutely the same as the touched one from bad boyz(I've got the red text). The phone restarts after 1-2 minutes maximum. When i start supersu says no library installed do i want to install and after this restart... So i flashed ViperOne again. My question is - does the hboot makes this problem and if i flash to his touched hboot is it reversible afterwards? Would be there problem to use other roms with same hboot&radio?
I think the problem could occour from supersu and the rootings privileges it needs. I have used a toolkit for rooting while i was stock (it installed superuser). May be my rooting is not that good or something is happening.. ViperOne has no problems.
Thank you!
I unlocked my phone but as written before you have to be s-off!
There is no way that you can use your phone without S-off, and if this not worked:
http://firewater-soff.com/instructions/
Then sunshine will:
http://theroot.ninja/apks/SunShine-latest.apk
Sorry but ~USD25 is the price to pay..and there is no way around it.

Reinstall super SU, have you tried to install any other radio (this makes the phone restart as well)?

The sprint HTC One is a CDMA phone, not GSM. Thats why its easy to buy one for really cheap, no one wants them These phones can still work on GSM network for roaming purpose. It can be unlocked so you can use it on your local gsm provider but don't expect to get LTE, you'll probably get gsm/3g only.
