[Q] HTC INCS , How to root using the stock rom - HTC Incredible S

Hello there , I have a HTC Incredible S,
Its untouched , everything is as we get from htc ,
its on 2.3.5 , hboot 2.01 , s-on , ***locked***
I am new to htc ,
I want to gain root and i dont want to lose the official rom , what i want is
to get root on Official stock rom , and keep getting FOTA and OTA updates (ICS IS REleasing next month hopefully).
Thnx if you can help

first, you have to unlock your phone!
you can go to here to do it!
www/htcdev/com
repalce '/' with '.',because i can not post url..

but keep in mind that your waranty will void if you unlock via htcdev method.
it's still a good and easy method if you dont want to flash radios.

Okay what after it ? They sent me a unlock_code.bin file via email. I flashed it using their instructions . I did not continue as it would delete all the data . Any way to backup it first and then unlock the boatloader

Don't use HTCdev unlock! Search the sticky threads for downgrading your hBoot from 2.0 to 1.13 using a goldcard and a stock ruu. There is a script to help too. HTCdev is a lazy fool's way to get custom ROMs. BTW, there is no S-off unlock with HTC dev. Check my signature for more info.

In order to get root on a stock rom you must obtain s-off. Once you do this you will no longer receive ota updates...

HTC Vivid

Any can please set up thing for S-OFF on HTC vivid
this wire this is not working ..
I need to S-OFF because Official ICS update didn't work on my mobile and in my phone GB have lot of errs.
And when i contact HTC they said your phone is rooted , bla , bla ......
In that case i need to install ICS ..
Relock you boot loader and run a Ics ruu that's compatible with your phone. The wire s-off works unless you can't get the proper timing down right.
There is guides for this in the holiday/vivid/raider/velocity section of the forums.

Flashing ROMs for Incredible S

Can someone tell the definitive way to flash a rom on my phone? http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/confused.gif
Should I unlock my phone via htcdev.com and flash custom ROM's? (what exactly is the difference between S-OFF and S-ON?)
OR
Should I follow this guide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705913
but the problem is that the Asian version has problems getting root access using alpharevx's method.
Can someone confirm if the Revolutionary method works on the Indian Incredible S?
Also what is a gold card?
Depends on your hboot version.
the link you posted gives you most of the information required.
s-off means security off and s-on is security on..
s-off gives you easier ability to flash roms and recoverys.
do a bit of reading around in the forum and you'll find almost all the answers you need
No offense but I read a lot but the only thing I'm confused about is the Indian version not being able to root as stated in the OP.
My hboot version is 2.00

With HBOOT 2.00, you have 2 options.
Option 1 is to downgrade your mainver and then install a GB RUU that has HBOOT 1.13 and then you can use Revolutionary to gain true S-OFF. This is the best option IMO.
Option 2 is to unlock your bootloader using HTCDEV.com and admit to HTC that you are modding your phone. Once you are unlocked, you can flash a custom recovery that will allow you to flash custom, rooted ROMs.
If I use the second method, will I be able to flash all custom RIMs?

Yes but every time you flash a ROM, you will manually have to extract the boot.img file from the ROM's zip file and then flash it in FASTBBOT USB mode using the command fastboot flash boot [boot.img]
That is why I prefer Option 1 and true S-OFF. You won't have to do that extra step each time.
If you decide to unlock your bootloader from HTC Dev then you must use the custom roms boot.img to install custom roms.
(From what i have read, please correct me if im wrong)
If you decide to S-OFF your device you do not need to obtain the boot.img if you want to flash that rom.
I decided to go the S-OFF route because not all the roms that are developed support S-ON.
If you have HBOOT 2.0 then you will need to (like tpbklake said)
downgrade your mainver and then install a GB RUU that has HBOOT 1.13 and then you can use Revolutionary to gain true S-OFF.

I agreed this is my preferred option.

First HTC device -- questions about root

Well it should be an easy question. I was just wondering do I need to have S-OFF to root and install custom recovery? If not what's the point of having S-OFF asides from readjusting individual partition and flashing modem?
No
1. You just need unlocked bootloader for rooting and flashing custom recovery.
2. If you have sOFF , you dont need to unlock bootloader with htcdev(so you dont lose system apps like flashlight calender etc. Which you do lose if unlock by htcdev)
You can unlock bootloader with revone itself(search revone sOFF tool in one original android development)
Then you can flash custom recovery
Another benifit is while coming back to stock, you can get superCID with sOFF and flash any RUU
Hit THANKS if i helped you

[Q] HTC One - UK Vodafone

Hi All,
So I've read all the threads with regards to rooting, custom roms etc but I just want a little clarification. My HTC One is on a UK Vodafone rom which I'd like to remove and replace with a stock HTC one or potentially one of the custom roms at a later date.
Just so I am clear in order to do this for a stock rom I need to S-Off and change the CID, Root and install something along the lines of CWM as the boot loader? Then in order for me to receive updates when HTC releases them I have to have S-On again?
Further I notice there are CWM stock HTC nandroid backups. Is this the easier way to go on the understanding that I won't receive HTC updates? Whilst I can see plenty of tutorials showing me how to do all of the above and I would have no problem in doing them I'm trying to understand if S-Off is a step I would need or would benefit me.
Thanks for any advice.

If all you want to do is flash a custom rom then you don't need to s-off your device. You do need to unlock the bootloader and then flash a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP and then you'll be good for rom flashing.
However if you do unlock the bootloader and flash recovery without s-off you're device will show this in the bootloader screen and may cause you a problem if you need to make a warranty claim.
S-off, amongst other uses, does allow you to unlock the bootloader and relock it without anyone knowing.
Be aware..... achieving and having s-off can lead to risks of bricking so you need to read up about it and be comfortable with what you're going to do.
Check out this guide here for unlocking and flashing without s-off.
Also, latest Vodafone HTC Ones are already sold with Hboot version 1.54 and JB 4.2.2
S-off is currently not possible with the upgraded firmware

There are guides on this site. Just search for it. There are s-off guides and rooting guides
Rumrunner was real simple to achieve S-off, very important so you can update the firmware. Might as well S-off and root at the same time
