I'm currently running 3.0.8-Semaphore_ICS_1.2.0 on my phone. I like ICS but I need my apps to be able to read and write to my SD card and also need GPS support.
Can anyone recommend an ICS Kernal that will allow SD card access and the GPS to work? (If there is one?)
Bro use any kernel they all give sd card support ..on which rom are you currently on..i would recommend semaphore kernel everything is working fine..use CM9/Team Nyx/Tiger
I think the rom I'm using is ICS_Passion_v13.1_RC1.1_build2.
I do have access to my external SD card but it is labeled incorrectly so apps can't access it. It's under a folder labeled as \"emmc" and can only be manually accessed which isn't helpful.
Is there a recommendation for the next best kernel to Semaphore?

Hello All,
I used to run DarkyRom 10.2 Extreme. Now I am on Cyanogenmod 7.1.0-GalaxyS.
Phone Details:
ROM: Cyanogenmod 7.1.0-GalaxyS
Android Version: 2.3.7
Baseband Version: I9000XXJVT
Kernel: 2.6.35.12-gdf10700 [email protected] #1 - not sure what kernel this is??
Build Number: GWK74
~Questions:~
Can I flash a custom kernel over the top of this currently installed ROM (like I did when I flashed the JVT Modem to fix my data connection)?
I have read that the Recovery is stored in the Kernel - So if I flash a different kernel will it replace my CwM 5.0.2.6? (I have noticed there are different colours of CwM Recovery - is this because of the kernel?
Thankyou for any help

Yes you can flash custom kernels, just be sure that the kernel you flash is for Cm7/MIUI and not sammy stock ROM. I have tried Glitch myself a couple times, but I stay on stock CM7 kernel for the moment since i find it more stable.
Peace out!

1. Yes, but before flashing a new kernel flash this script.
2. Correct, but if I'm not mistaken all the major kernels have CWM5 (Platypus Neo 18, FuguMod, Glitch)
Also, you might want to switch to CM nightly #181 instead of 7.1 stable, just a suggestion. 7.1 is quite outdated.
Thankyou very much for the replies, I will flash the nightly tonight using ROM Manager

install the GetRIL app from the market and select a suitable RIL/BB combination from it.your wifi issue will be solved.
The app will suggest a RIL as recommended....select a V10 series RIL for CM custom ROMs. V20 series does not work with CM7/CM9 ROMs
Hope it helps
Besides the previous suggestion of changing the RIL, I would consider
- installing a newer version of the Owain
- flashing another kernel (may be one of the 2.6 series, as you are using a 3.0 one)
Hope it helps,
just noticed that you did not download from the xda forum. I think that you should follow the developments of your rom at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1517301
as Amivieu pointed out or you may even try another rom based on Owain such as Nova HD (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508492)..
I don't know why, but I can't mount internal SD with build RC0-74. (I can't use RC0-76 because the boot animation loop). e.g.: Camera app didn't work because can't find an storage.
I've tested all options in Star Parts -> SD Mount, with a Dalvik clean on every change. I've selected Internal Storage at Storage Config.
I've also tried to perform a fullwipe and a clean install of RC0-74 several time, but the issue persist the same.
I want to post it on Owain's official thread but I'm too newbie for that
I would really appreciate any help.
Have you tried another kernel?
I had some wifi problems with harsh-kernel. No running latest Spica kernel, and so far no wifi problems..
Could somebody help me please... :fingers-crossed:
I have installed Android version 4.0.3
Baseband version: I9000XXJVU
Kernel: 3.0.8-NEO-3.0.TeamCSSGS-257174-g197c9a1-dirty
Build: GT-I9000-user 4.0.3 IML74K eng.onecosmic.20120204.223407 test-keys
I would like to avoid phone wipe if possible, just upgrade this version with right ROM. Could somebody help me please?
Or maybe suggest me the best working version right now - because in this version i really miss SD card / cant access it and its working slow...
Thanks in advance! :good:
Install titanium backup from playstore and upgrade your Rom the way you like. (after backup all data and apps) For most of the Roms it is recommended to do all wipes before flashing a new one. Only a few Roms with ota features support no wipe flashing. Maybe you wanna switch to slim Rom? Very stable, fast and customizable.

Hi I'm new to this and I have looked everywhere on here (the answer prob is in here somewhere) but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for...
Basically I want to flash kernel without PC (if possible) using CWM. I was also hoping to put the latest (stable) CM ROM on it too. I reckon putting a custom rom on would require a PC.
Model number: GT-N7000
Android version 4.1.2
Baseband version : N7000XXLT3
Kernel version: 3.0.31-1103517 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT
Build number : JZ054K.N7000XXLT9
Yes the baseband and build are different (XXLT3 & XXLT9) if that means anything
If anyone can help me I would appreciate it. Either with links or the files attached below I won't mind at all!
Thank you
Neither rooting nor installing a custom rom requires a computer till you have an external sd.
Follow.. To install cm11
Philz kernel -> make backup -> raw kernel -> install rom and gapps

Have you already rooted or you want to root and flash a different kernel?
Well neither of those things should require you to absolutely have a PC if you can download stuff onto your device
Also here is a helpful thread on rooting
Something there might help ^^
Hi, and thanks for your time!
I have flashed and rooted my GT-I9070 (with help from the XDA-forum of course!), all is working splendid!
However, because it only has 750mb RAM I want to use Simple RootSwap to expand my RAM a bit (because I don't have money for the roehsoft...). When I installed it and tried it all seemed working fine but no swap file was made on the SD card (a class 10 8GB card), instead it made the swap in the root of the phone. I installed roehsoft MemoryInfo/SwapCheck and tested it. Then the truth came out, my kernel doesn't support rootswap. Aarg!
For flashing my GT-I9070 I used: I9070XXLQE_I9070XENMP3_HOME.tar
If you couldn't tell yet, I am a complete noob at rooting/flashing/custom ROM's, so I'm hardpressed to find out how to fix this. Can I flash the kernel only, and if so: where can I find the appropriate one? Or do I need to flash to a new custom rom? And which one? I have searched around the forums but I can not reach an agreement with myself as to what thread to follow, so any advice or just pointing to the right thread would be greatly appriciated, thanks!
