I came across with many words which I don't, how to check or what the meaning of those words!

Don't worry, it's just the first test of adequacy on the path to xda initiation - only the worthy ones will be able to overcome the terrible obstacles of the dreadful google search, others will perish in the void of superbrick.
See the glossary in the XDA Developers Wiki.
I just tried and added "ICS" to the glossary.

"dude" makes me feel "strange", and for "thanks" you might use the different approach here
Maybe you find missing explanations in the glossary and I will try to fill the holes...
I find the thread Android terms, slang and definitions useful as well, though a wiki is the obvious format for something like this.

Then let me show you something, that you could have done by yourself, before starting new thread in already crowded forum (part of the reason for any difficulties in finding necessary info here is too big number of useless threads/posts):
and last but not least:
- the large WIKI button on top of the xda portal - is it that hard to find?
- the slang thread suggested by syncopath - it is a sticky thread in android general
Don't get me wrong, I don't blame you for not knowing, nobody is born with knowledge, but starting new pointless thread asking for definitions of terms which are not that difficult to find using google, xda, wiki, for me it's just laziness and nothing more.

I tried searching the forum but couldn't find anything.
search and read before you get flamed
You have to install hard-spl (in the Kaiser ROM Development section) by pof/olipro. Once you do that, find the rom you want, download it, and run the RUU.
It involves 2 paperclips and a wall socket, if you would like to proceed let me know.

Nope. I tried that and got...

I think maybe he meant an official microsoft upgrade, not a "cooked rom". Microsoft has not realeased an upgrade to Windows Mobile Pro 6.0 for the tilt if that is what you meant . The only 6.1's that people are talking about are custom roms.
i don't think denco most of us here rely on "oem" official upgrades .. none the less searching and reading than searching some more and than some more reading and than memorizing what you have read is a MUST >.. so happy reading.
What?
While getting chastized by someone who joined "our forum" less than a month ago is appealing to people, it was a simple question that I thought got misunderstood. So I decided to end the thread with a simple answer, because I'm sure people have other things to do. Apparently not. I have had my Tilt since 10/07 and know it inside and out mostly from reading this forum since 10/07, and have never felt the need for a cooked rom. Screw with the interface yes, rom no need. Interesting poll question though. Out of 681,176 members on this site how many have oem roms and how many have custom roms? I know the most vocal have custom roms ,but 600000 is a lot of people

So he feels a sense of belonging after a few weeks nothing wrong with that. Also a forum is not defined by its number of members, but its number of active members and the mission statement made by the Founders.
Mission Statement:
Welcome to xda-developers.com
This site is about certain PDA-phones, made by a firm called HTC in Taiwan. Their makers named them 'Wallaby', 'Himalaya', 'Blue Angel', 'Wizard' and 'TyTN', but almost nobody knows them by those names. The mobile provider O2 sells them under the brand-name 'XDA', and that's what we had in our hands first. They're also known as Qtek, MDA, SX-56, Hermes and many, many other names.
Since we develop software for it, we need information, and nobody seemed eager or ready to give us what we needed. So we 'reverse-engineered' the devices, found a lot of information, and shared it with the world. But as our site grew we realised that lots of ordinary users were also suffering from a lack of support. They started using the xda-developers forum to communicate and before long the forum was as much a user forum as it was a developer forum.
We hope that you will enjoy this site and find it as useful as we do. We encourage you to donate or otherwise support this site. Of course absolutely all proceeds from donations will benefit this community.

Totally agree. No one wants thread jumping or serial threaders or how do I turn on my phone? But it seemed like a simple question and the " noob " got totally flamed for it. Jimmy, you pointed out that maybe a developers/enthusiast site is not the place for simple questions, but then you go and point out the mission statement to me that says that "as our site grew we realized that lots of ordinary users were also suffering from lack of support". " and before long the forum was as much a user forum as it was a developers forum." A bit of a contradiction , which is it a snotty developers forum, like Jimmy suggests in the first half of his post ( I believe there already is a section of this forum for development and hacking ideas that is off limits to the common folk), or a users forum like the mission statement suggests in the second half of his post? I can live with either one.

So you're telling me that having the inability to search is perfectly acceptable?
Google is arguably the best search engine around, and XDA uses it for site searches. Do you go to Google's home page, and then without typing anything in the search box, just give up?
It ultimately comes down to the rules of the forum; one of which included searching before creating threads. If someone cannot follow a few simple rules, then they have bigger issues then not knowing how to install a ROM on their phone.

My problem is not with reminding people to search, some of my answers to posts have also included gentle reminders to search followed by helpful ( I hope ) answers. My problem is with flaming people before clarifying the question. I "did" a forum search on an MS upgrade for 6.0 on a TILT before I decided to speak up and found nothing pertaining to the tilt. " How do you install Windows Mobile 6.1 on a Tilt? " " There is no 6.1 yet. " How hard is that? I have been programming for 33 yrs, I started out on a key punch terminal and then fed hundreds of punch cards into a reel to reel magnetic tape " processor " the size of most people's living rooms. My first in a long line of PDAs and smart phones, was an Apple Newton. I may be an idiot, but not from lack of experience. Exactly when did people get so full of themselves. But this is not " my " forum so I guess I should just butt out.

Shame on me? Shame on you sir. This forum is filled with very usefull and important information. People just need to look for it. If we allow every Tom, ****, and Bob, to post threads willy-nilly without remand or maintaining some flow. The forum become deluted with crap, the information will be impossible to find. And our key smart people will leave. Then we might as well change the Topic of this forum to "Talking about the OC."
The Mods have said their piece on this, I personally have been following their wishes. I recommend everyone else does too.

Maybe I should have been more clear. I know this is a Users Forum. Given the Typical Popular Topics I might say "Power User." Still The Mission Statement put forth by the Founders says users forum, not Free Technical Support Forum. Giving someone some Support and doing the researchfor them without thanks at two totally separate things. You need to learn to have a little thicker skin. I didn't say Snotty Developers Forum.
Fine you know what, you want to be an ass about all this, since I appear to be the only one of this opinion. That opinion of use "search" first, and start a new thread as a last resort. Here you go then....

Its Really Quite Easy. Place HardSPL on your device. Heres the thread for it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
Then look through here to find a Windows Mobile 6.1 Based Custom ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=378
If you are looking for the Offical Windows Mobile 6.1 from Microsoft, I'm not sure. Maybe you should check their website. http://www.microsoft.com
I'm quite new to this community and i want to ask a lot of questions to the people that know the answers i tried searching the forum or google but i get some bits and pieces of info that are most confusing and there's no straight answer.First and most important is about flashing my device and all the new ROM's that are "cooked" and my questions are
"Do i need to do that?"
and
"What are the benefits from it?" cause if it's only for looks there's a lot of programs that can do the same stuff. I supose ROM fashing has to do something with performance too but there's is no complete info anywhere only numbers and letters that doesn't mean anything to me.
I understand that there is no official 6.5 upgrade of winmo fo HD and thats why there are the "cooked" versions of it but how can i make a difference between a good "cooked" version and the unstable ones.
Also are there ROM's that can damage my device even when doing everything by the book? and..
Is the "Dummies guide..." thread for every HD no matter when you bought it and what stock ROM is already on your device ( i don't know if there is a big difference but i have to ask).
I guess i wrote all of this because I don't want to ask and write a milion more times when i do something wrong by flashing it without enough knowledge.I understand that these questions are the deffinition of "noob" but for me it's "better safe than sorry".

In fact comparing the performance of ROMs is very susbjective in most cases. However there are a few benchmarking applications, the results should be quite self explainable.

Normally most chiefs are trying to get stable versions, so if there is anything wrong with the ROM it should be pronounced in the description.
However you are free to try it on your own, as you won't damage anything by flashing a custom ROM at all.

I suppose you read up some of the threads and the wiki. Before flashing anything you should really know what you are doing, and what is going to be different afterwards. It sounds a bit goofy, but I guess there are enough people out there, who can't say what they are actually doing.

Come on there are hundreds of these threads that get closed because noobs like you yourself are either ignorant or too lazy to read, for those of us who actually bother to read it is extremely frustrating to sift through post after post of the exact same questions with the exact same answers that already have sticky's and/or detailed info in the Wiki.
I'm inclined to agree, I'm a noobie, but haven't and wouldn't post questions about 'how to flash' etc etc as there is clearly many many threads about it- you just have to take the time to read up on them before taking the plunge.
Read the stickies, read again- and again, when you are ready to flash have loads of pages open to answer any questions as things happen when you are flashing, Truth is, it's nothing to worry about, choose a rom, install HSPL first and flash away, it does it all automatically for you.
Thank you for your quick reply and the information given and to the people who object to my questions actually when you're writing in this thread without a solution or help you're flooding more than me and yes i tried to get the answers form the forum and google also as i wrote in my first post but i didn't get them thats why i аsked and thankfuly people who have been in my position understood what I was implying to.There was no need for hostility ... Whatever thanks again and i hope i won't have to write here again as I see it's making people angry.
It is intimidating at first, but stick with it and it'll start to become clear, once you do it you'll get the flashing bug!

Yes, point taken, I could and should have been a bit gentler in that previous post. I was merely pointing out that any newbies already have all the help they need in this forum -- that's what Search is for, and why the titles of most threads are so specific and detailed. The answers are out there. So I do apologize for the perceived harshness that was unnecessary on my part. You also didn't see that I did indeed help this user over several PMs after I posted that earlier, but that still doesn't justify my lack of gentleness.
Awful metaphor, but it fits pretty well: "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish, feed him for a lifetime." Yes I know that was terrible
Even worse: " Build a man a fire, keep him warm for a day, set the man on fire, keep him warm for the rest of his life."
I think your first post was gentle enough.
As for the topic at hand. Try just rooting and removing the bloatware and using a decent task manager or auto killer. I think the jump to aosp should be somethinng for later.
I feel the newbie love in the air

I was Thinking about making a website that included all ROM/KERNELS/MODS/MODEMS/THEMES/BOOT-ANIM....
but to have it set up to multiple phones, the ultimate android bible. it would have a different section for each phone. and each ROM etc. would show the original post from the OP from xda, and then if they like it, they can click the link to go back to xda and download
i know i would already be able to do it for the vibrant (my phone)
but i was just curious if anybody else would be interested in doing this for the captivate..
it would have to be updated EVERYDAY, just like my VIBRANT BIBLE seen here
check it out, and if you think you can update daily with everything like i do, pm me and let me know. ( you dont have to organize it, i will have the website already organized and ready to go, all you have to do is post the ROMs etc. on it
EDIT: i am not advertising another website. i will not be drawing xda members away from xda, it will be just like a shortcut website leading to xda
There is already a site like this, its called XDA?

I suppose you have a point, but that seems like A LOT of work on your end updating it everyday for all the phones just to make it slightly easier for lazier people. I mean if you want to make your phone super awesome but don't want to do a little searching and research do you really deserve it??
I am completely self taught from reading xda, and I can do anything short of actual dev work, and I like that.

well my main intension of making it IS to make it easier, but i wasnt planning on updating ALL the phones, i was going to try to find other people for different phones, so it wont make it any harder on me, i would just have to update the vibrant section (like im already doing, with my bible)... i expect very little income from it too, and all of it would be given to the people who are updating their phone sections

Well that.. some one know if MMC_CAP_ERASE is removed in that ROM??
Thanks for the help.
Why not ask in this ROM thread? I guess you'll have much better chance if finding someone using it there. And the forum would be less cluttered.

Err... because he is NOOB, just like me, and we NOOBs are not allowed to post things in the development area until we have ten posts?
PS: My first post. Don't shoot, don't shoot!

don't intend to - esp. that I forgot about the limit - it's just that the forum is not easy to read, because of a large number of threads (partly or mostly unncessary threads), and with each new thread it gets more difficult to search so ppl create new ones, which makes searching even worse and so on and so on,
still, 10 posts limit afair is not tough to break - and I'm absolutely not sugggesting spamming other innocent threads with pointless posts - let's just say that the limit probably serves as a precaution for new users as well - by the time newbies have posted 10 messages, they will probably be accustomed with terminolgy and safety precautions,
now - as to the ROM in question - I don't use it, so cannot tell, but, search the ROM's thread for emmc_cap, maybe you'll find the answer

That rom little bit complicated to install. Try modded lite alba by elishadow. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722038
If it has a safe kernel then it is a safe custom rom and its depends also if you follow correctly the operating procedure, if not, then it is not safe.
