why are video calls so bad? - LG Optimus 2x

Did anyone ever try to use video calls with skype/google talk?
I noticed that the video stream the comes from the 2x is always WORSE in resolution that other phones (i tried 1 galaxy S, 2 galaxy wifi players = low end devices) and the resolution is much better. It seems like it's basically half. It's not the connection I'm using since I tried several combos, even with only the lg 2x with active video camera in a call on a 3MBit upload connection it's still the same crap!
Is this because of the lack NEON?

I think its because the front camera is very bad

Check if your screenprotector covers the camera.

Its both the back and front cameras, resolution is way too low and they show EXTREME aliasing

Lg optimus 2 x Front camera 1.3 megapixel for that its Should be good video quality. I tried to skype and it's Showed me gorgeous result.

Loud speaker

Hi guys.. looking at buying a 2x but need to know if the loud speaker is any good. Best phones I know of are iphone and Motorola for best clarity loudness and bass.
Thanks

From what ive read the speakers on this phone are brilliant..... probably because of the dual speaker arrangement similar to the iPhone!
I have an atrix but it suffers from data disconnection. I was thinking the 2x would be ok.

The Optimus 2X has only one speaker connected to both the right and left output of the Wolfson audio codec. The second cavity hosts the microphone. The service manual for the SU 660 shows this, so I think it will be similar for the P990
So what does it sound like?

Like a phone .
Not bad IMO, better than HTC Desire and Desire Z which was my last two android phones, more deeper sound, and can be used as speakerphone, which I could not so much with my earlier HTC phones.

Hi there; note that the reviewer states that this is a 2x pre-production model (though IMO, unlike software, hardware dose not usually change in this phase...) & lists the 2x as having "below average" quality. See the chart below for details.

Well, imo it has well above average quality.
Whether it's the reviewer or me who has trouble hearing, or if the actual pre-production model had a flaw, i can't say for sure.
It's in a different league than the Desire, thats for sure, but i guess most phones are.
IMO the sound is good on my P990
Better than HTC Desire, HD, and so on.
About the same as Samsung Galaxy S
It looks like a dual speaker, and I noticed that one of them delievers treble, and the other bass/middle tone (if it is called that? - directly translated from danish)
According to the Swedroid review "The external speaker can not quite match the fullness and volume that we experience that the Xperia X10 mini performance, but the exception to this model belongs to Optimus 2X the best we've heard one of the Android phones we have tested. We raise the volume to 100% is the sound quality is still good and we find neither of noise due to the chassis vibration due to the speaker distorts the sound, but it is both clear even at maximum volume."

since I posted this like a gazillion times by now, let me reinforce my statement with the actual exerpt from the SU660 Service Manual
I attached a part of the schematics concerning the audio codec from the Service Manual (page 67 if you happen to have it yourself)
The important part is concerned with the outputs
SPKOUTRN
SPKOUTRP
which are the + and - lines for the right channel and
SPKOUTLN
SPKOUTLP
which are the respective lines for the left channel.
As you can see both outputs are bridged to one physical speaker output (SPK_N and SPK_P) so there is only ONE physical speaker, which receives both the left and right channel signals.
Hope this clarifies this once and for all.
Can more people comment on the speaker loudness and quality? Currently I am a Nexus one and I can't even hear the speaker ring from another room. Is it much of an improvement?
How does it compare to other phones like Nokias?

Yes I agree
The speaker is a lot louder then desire z but there is hardly any base. But for pure sound its not.bad at all. You defiantly could play out loud in noisy environment. Its a mono speaker similar to Nokia n8 speaker

Low video quality via HDMI

I have just received original Samsung MiniUSB->HDMI cable for Note and... the video quality is terrible. Picture is choppy, pixelated and misaligned(it's cut on the top with blacks on bottom and sides).
I tried it with full hd Samsung lcd tv(36 inch) and Sony Bravia plasma tv (46 inch) with very same results.
For me it looks like the 720p video output that goes to the AMOLED display is very badly upscalled to [email protected]
Is there any configuration for HDMI output? Is it possible to turn off upscalling, so my tv could get 720p signal just as the phone screen receives it?
Does the TV's support 1080p and not only 720p?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Both TVs are full HD (1920x1080).
Umm are u sure u didnt buy the hdmi from ebay?? Cuz i know there are fake samsung hdmi selling cheap which is bad quality when outputting to your tv!! so make sure you bought the Genuine hdmi from samsung.

100% original, bought it from here: http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/genuine-samsung-galaxy-note-mhl-tv-out-adaptor-eia2uhunbecstd-p32975.htm

Audio Quality

Is the LG O4X audio quality & volume through headphones really that bad? I've read GSMarena's review as they've now posted the audio part of the review. They said it possibly one of the worst devices they've tested
This will be a deal breaker for me. :-( what do you guys think?
Any previous GSII ownes in here that can provide input on personal opinions between the quality of the two?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Audio quality seems fine to me. GSMArena suspected they had a faulty unit, and said they would try another but I have yet to see an update to the review to reflect this.
I did see that but thought what is the chance of them receiving a faulty unit. Im currently using a Galaxy S II, and the audio quality via music player suits me. I reappy want the 4X as its a sexy beast, just wouldn't be able to cope with crap music quality.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
The sound quality is pretty good on the 4x. I upgraded after breaking my milestone and I was also iffy on buying the 4x because of the gsm review... when I tested it out, it sorta felt like my entire phone became a speaker but it instantly became muffled when I covered the grill. Black magic is at work here lol
Im on about through the headphones lol
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Oudio output is fine for me too, though not as good as the One X, a little louder would not be a bad thing, but overall as good as other smartphones in the segment.
It is, once again, fine. Satisfactory. I don't like in-ear headsets so I just use the ones that came with my milestone 2 years ago >_> I did try the headphones that were in the box though, they unlock some eq presets along with an option to manually tweak the levels. But plugging in any headphones will unlock that.
...as good as the other six smartphones I use, honestly. I always check music quality through my $500 akg closed headphones with quite a range of high quality files and the 4x sounds really fine, absolutely no problem here.
Just bought 4X to replace my 3.5" iPhone 4S, everything is fine except the sound quality which I must say is terrible compared with iPhone especially when using the built in speaker Maybe it's because the speaker is at the back of the phone

What if you set the O4X on its front so that the speaker grill is facing upwards? Will it be not as terrible? Is it really that bad compared to iPhone 4S?

Only the sound is louder, quality won't improve no matter where you face the speaker. Apart from Moto's Raxx, iphone's sound quality is excelent (from my own experiece).
I downloaded Poweramp as recmmended by local forum here to my 4X and the sound quality improves a little bit.

ok the sound of the built-in speaker is poor, but with headphones, for me, the sound is great. I don't think it's very exciting listen music with the speacker ......
Use the right headphones (i got a HTC set) and download the POWERAMP app...
Gives what u need
hi guys, what about the call quality? is it loud n clear on speakers?
It's okay. I went through a few phone calls and I didn't experience any problems and have no complaints.
Although... has anyone else noticed that the voice for navigation is kinda quiet? I turned it up to max and drove a few suburbs over but I felt like it was a bit too gentle for a car environment.
Music over bluetooth, Motorola Motorokr s305 stereo headphone & headset works good. But dolby mobile setting stutters (to bad, cause I liked the sound). I now use the headphone amplifier setting. Also good, but not as loud as Dolby mobile.

Did anybody try the headphone out with high-end multidriver iems (Like Shure SE535, Phonak PF232 or Westone UM3x...)?
I'm an iPhone 4S user and the headphone out is almost perfect when listen thru my UM3x. Hence i was wondering if the 4X would be close in terms of noise floor, resolution and frequency response.
Thanks in advance

If the TF10 sounds good and you have your treble then output impedance of the LG must be quite low which is a great thing.
Could you fill me in about the noise floor (Noise that you can hear when you pause the music till the amp section shuts off).
Thanks a lot
Audio quality problem
I sometimes hear below average audio quality and I have to re-insert my head phone to get normal audio. Do any body facing this problem

conserdering buying this device? should l?!

I need ur opinion guys....., is it GREAT CAMERA? I mean leaving every other thing aside is it a good camera cus I already have android devices and I need a good camera
Yes, it's great camera with poor support
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
I agree, it does take great pictures and has the best LCD screen you can imagine for a camera. But sadly Samsung have lost all interest in supporting it, software features on the Galaxy Zoom and Note 3 are better and run higher version of Android.
If you can get one for a good price then go for it. I still love the camera but wish it would receive updates to fix interface lag issues.

Yes awesome camera, I use it daily and the Android features are a benefit that come in handy more then you may think. I also am disappointed the there has been no support for the camera. I would still buy the camera again, however mabey wait until the new one is released so you at least get a newer version of Android and more features and better chance of support from Samsung. I love this camera so much that I am actually considering purchasing the Galaxy NX instead of a DSLR here soon.
My camera no has dust inside and the image is affected...

Would this camera be a good device for streaming over the ustream app or using to add to a hangout? I want to stream speakers at meetings. Also does it have a mic port for a shotgun mic?

It does not have a mic port.
It does have a mini-HDMI -port, headphones jack (of course) and the default mini-USB -port (2nd of course
Also experiencing that interface lagging and it's quite annoying when you should be able to take a pic fast, without no waiting. I've done 1 factory reset to my device, it helped a bit.
I believe you can use an external mic with an adapter via the headphone jack. You'll need an iphone/ipad mic adapter and then it will work with any standard mic. I know I'm responding to this thread late, but the Galaxy Camera 2 has been out for a while and is already being discounted. It's running Android 4.3 and I'm not really experiencing any interface lag at all. For better battery life and other features I wish it was Kitkat, but JB 4.3 is definitely good enough.

Google Hangouts Video Chat Horrible Quality

I was trying to do a video call with google hangouts over my wifi and it is extremely bad quality. When I take video with the camera it looks very good so I don't think its a hardware issue. I am assuming it has something to do with the video being too high quality and it being compressed? Is there a fix for this?
Thanks
Yes use your 4G network or upgrade your WiFi speed....... and make sure your entire household isn't on the router, also perhaps the other person has a lower quality device so google matches bit rates so quality is equitable
