Would help to know what ROM you are running.

Sound glitches have been fixed in the latest official and unofficial nightly ROMs. You either have not updated or you have one of those devices thats just gonna have issues with android (battery, sound and wifi are the most common)
None of this is new info. Please search the thread for whatever ROM you are using. If no audio fix is mentioned then you need to change ROMs. Once again you use the SEARCH function to find what you need seeding as audio issues are common

Im using the official nightlty from june 18th

There's always been sound problems. They are slowly getting better. A new one I'm dealing with is the infamous 'Machine Gun' sound.
Also, as I run apps for extended periods of time (such as Cut the Rope, or Apollo), the sound will start to get muffled. A solution I use is to close the app, and try reopening it.
A small gripe.

Do you have an explanation or link to a thread with an explanation as to why some devices are just gonna have issues and others won't? Part of me thinks / hopes its just because things are still a work in progress. I have no issues at all with spotify..crystal clear. But then some games like magic piano are horrendous..and other games like mini motor racing only have some popping in the main menu..game play is fine.

[Q] [HELP] X8 JellyBeans 4.1 speakers/earphones problem

I didn't find any similar threads with this problem so I decided to start a new one.
The thing is, I just installed JellyBeans 4.1 Beta 1 and flashed my X8 with "E15i_JBMiniProject_v02" (Everything on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1789713)
I also installed the Google apps in the thread like Google play.
So, the problem is that when plugging earphones into the device and then playing music or any audio app the sound goes both through the earphones and the speakers. I didn't find any separate volume options for speakers and earphones also when increasing or decreasing volume in the device, both speakers and earphones increase or decrease.
I looked carefully through the phone options and I didn't find any possible options. Note: I was kinda tired so I MIGHT have missed an option for this.
I tried searching for people wanting to force this to play both through speakers and earphones and I've only seen threads in developing forums, nothing as simple as an option I might miss-understood and turned it on.
NOTE: I also tried setting phone in vibration only mode and silent mode but still.
I know it's not the worst problem ever, but it's annoying because I can't use earphones without playing music via the speakers too...

Sorry I didn't see the comment on the thread, didn't mind searching since the thread owner mentioned not to talk about bug in the dev thread :S.
BTW I'm the one who submitted the bugreport lol.
EDIT: Yeah, I'm blind, just noticed the guy who posted the app that fixs it.
Thanks for the help .

[Q] Bluetooth A2DP (music streaming) distortion

Hi Everyone,
I am having an issues with my new HTC One.
Recently i bought a pair of Jaybirds Bluebuds X wireless headphones and the sound quality from my HTC One is awful (tested on my PC and the sound quality is great using that).
I have done some research and it seems that the bluetooth stack is the issue. I'm not overly knowledgeable on android drivers and such but ive heard it has something to do with a low Bitpool number that is streaming the audio in a much lower quality than it should be.
Nexus users are having the same issues, however the fix they use (replacing some files with earlier Android versions) works for them but they arent compatible with the HTC One.
Anyone able to help me, i love this phone and i really dont want to sell my new headphones because of this
Thanks.

Did you try replacing those 2 files in /system/lib/hw? Worth a shot. Unfortunately, I don't think many people notice the lower bipool. Therefore, Google really doesn't care. Also, from what I understand just raising the bitpool can cause stuttering for some devices. Google figures more people will notice stuttering than clipping in high frequencies. It is annoying, it kept me off of 4.2 until a dev fixed it, and about to push me off of 4.3.

I tried replacing the files, but it just broke the Bluetooth decoding of music files.
Although, last night i flashed CM10.2 and it fixed the issue for me.
Their are one of two small clicks and pops when a track starts but other than that the quality is superb.
Also i am REALLY enjoying CM10.2. Dont get me wrong, i loved Trickdroid, but CM10.2 has alot of really nice options and tweaks.
TL;DR - Flash CM10.2 to fix this issue until HTC fixes it via official drivers.

[Q] Audio problems with Cyanogenmod 10.2

Scenario: I'm running Android 4.3 (Official CM10.2 Nightly 23/10 ) with the Standard CM Kernel.
Problem: When Playing music and I receive a notification, the music will go quiet for about 3 seconds, I would then hear the notification sound and then the music skips a few tracks and plays a completely different song to the one I was listening to. I have also noticed that on silent mode It becomes very choppy when receiving notifications. (Happens with most of the CM10.2 ROMs I have used)
So does anyone have a clue to why this issue might be happening?
Same here... I believe its a bug from cm 10.2

We may need to report the bug to Cyanogen Mod. If half the people that use the device don't listen to music, then not many people would notice it. So this issue may be low down on the "Bug list"

indeed. better report it. personally im one of those who dont listen to music from the phone
gotta wait till 10.2 hits RC or stable, so we can report bugs. till then, bug reports aren't accepted by CM maintainers

Speaker Volume Changing

Speaker Volume starts loud then decreases. This happens when playing any media through speakers. I've tried different roms and the issue continues to persist. Has anyone else had this problem. Any feedback or solution would be greatly appreciated.

its a mostly aosp bug, you are missing files. itll be there until your roms fix the issue.
In having the same issue.
This occurs on stock and custom roms so if it's a bug then it's effecting stock too.
Just got my phone and i have the same sad issue.... When i play music through the speakers and turn the vol all the way up its loud then immediately fades to low volumes.
I cannot get a constant play of any media at full volume
I am completely stock unrooted
Any solutions? Or should I send this thing back?

do you know how to fix that ? any link to a commit or sth. ? building omnirom for myself, and i wasn't able to figure the problem out...
I have the same issue on CM12. Couldn't comment on stock as I used it for all of 10 mins.
Seems there is some kind of audio normalization service running in the background. Doing a pretty crappy job of it.
Software issue it seems. I'm surprised there haven't been more reports of this. Its getting quite annoying. Finally I have front facing speakers on my phone and what does it do? Lowers the volume to half.

if u can identify the service, cant we just shut it down or prevent it from running which does this horrible stuff
also I have noticed it happens at lower battery level not when its more than 50%
Noticed it today for the first time while playing a game

Just had this freaky thing happen to me today, for the first time since I've had the phone which I have had for over 2 months now. Stock and unrooted. It did not do it to me before today that I ever noticed so I don't know what to make of it. But I hope it may be software related but who knows.
I ended up RMA'ing my device and the new one doesn't do this on the stock ROM or third party (tested SlimLP) so I am thinking it might be more of a hardware issue. Will check to see if my 64GB MB does this as well, but so far the replacement phone has fixed this annoying issue and volume stays the same while playing youtube video's / music.
RMA was painless dealing with Motorola direct, even though I bought the phone through AT&T, and with Advanced RMA it only took over the weekend (RMA started on Friday afternoon) and the device showed up today. Couldn't have been more pleased with the ease of this.
Try viper 4 android. It fixed my volume issue.

I thought I was imagining this when it happened a few times, then I was blaming poor quality music streams but evidently there is an issue. It also happens occasionally with my headphones.

I just bought a Nexus 6 - hope it doesn't have this problem.
I currently have this issue, volume is dropping more than 50% after like 2 seconds at full volume. From what I could read from all over the forums, it really looks like a hardware issue, it's pretty random. Guess my N6 is going back to my carrier as soon as I can get to them when they're open!

[Magisk Mod] Pixel 3 XL muffled speaker fix

Speakers sound muffled?
Speakers sound better after pausing then playing media?
Speakers sound better if volume is maxxed then lowered back down?
If these issues sound familiar to you, then maybe this Magisk module will help. It contains just (4) files from the December patch and has fixed the above issues for me.
Credits: I stole the device and software checks from jtothe4n. Hope they don't mind.
Changelog:
v2: Added 'libmaxxaudioqdsp.so' from Dec 2018 patch - unsure if this made a difference or not since I don't have another device I can directly compare against.
v3: Removed security patch check. I was hoping it would have been fixed in the April update, thus no longer requiring this patch.

How can this still be an issue? Every month I hope and pray Google fixes this. This is a pretty big bug to me. Always needing to pause, and then play to fix sound. I really would like to know what Google is thinking leaving this be for so long. Sound quality is so important, and this issue really makes using the phone unpleasant when it happens. Is there an official bug report Google sees for this, or is it just up to the community to fix it? Anyone know if it is happening on the Q beta? UGH
EDIT - Seems like Q beta does the same as someone here posted it. https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/aypnuw/pauseunpause_sound_change_pixel_3_xl/

For me this mod makes my speakers sound worse unfortunately. The buzzing comes back with a vengeance, makes it not worth using for me personally. I'll just keep hitting pause and resume for now until lazy Google fixes it.

It's probably due to audio changes that Google did to address the speaker distortion/balance. Speakers are a bit softer but you have less distortion that seems to be the trade off.
I found a fix and it is already in your phone, go in the Google music app, and turn on the equalizer. Turn it on and change it to something anything. I put it on normal and top speaker no longer is muffled and sounds the same as the bottom. Sounds super clean. I thought I messed my phone up with viper. Uninstalled all that and tried that... To my surprise it worked. Also make sure the apps that play music don't have their equalizer like Spotify. Change that to what you changed the music app. Sounds stupid but works. I was even thinking doing an RMA but this worked. Sounds killer like it is supposed to.

It's funny that you mention this. I was playing around with both GPM and PowerAMP. I have both installed, and both have their own equalizer set differently. I tried force stopping both so the equalizers wouldn't play into it, but on YouTube the sound still changed at random. I'll try your method to disable PowerAMP, and set GPM to normal. The only other "fix" that works for any period of time is to open an app (like a game or something that plays sound/music), raise the volume to 100%, and then back it down to what I want. That way it stays clear for me. I hope you're solution works better. Thanks for the tip. I'll post my results after a while of using it your way.

I was tripping that my sound sucked at times and didn't at others. The volume I thought changed it and good to know before I wasn't tripping, it isn't just me. Sometimes before it would sound awesome then completely sound like I blew the top speaker. All funky playing. Since I did that it has tripped out a few times I noticed using talk to text but generally plays like it is supposed to be playing, awesome sounding out of both. I even tried pushing mono audio in accessibilities settings. No change. Found this to be a huge change, changing the stock music app. You don't need to use that app. I didn't enable any of the as location of anything. Just went to settings and just equalizer. I couldn't believe it. Pandora worked great. Speaker for speaker phone even changed to sound better. Let me know if it does help.

And idiots are Google should of put a native equalizer in settings. Across the board equalizer. That would of been the route to go. For some reason they left that out even though the app is present. So I believe all's the apps do is actually access that audio API for it with no way user to acc ess it. By changing the stock music app it changes the actual music effects app present in phone. Look it is in there. No ui or way to access it.

Let me first say to the OP sorry for hijacking this thread. I think we should make a new thread on this workaround/fix because so far so good. I haven't done a ton of testing, but all the apps I've used have had steady sound all day since I turned off PowerAMPs equ, and set GPM to Normal (went though a couple of games and apps several times, and usually the sound would change randomly by now a couple of times). I also turned off Bass Boost and Surround sound just to be sure. If it continues to work well I'll start a new thread, and post a link to your first comment on what to do. Great tip so far! Again OP sorry for the hijack.
EDIT/PS: I agree there should be a system wide EQ. That's one thing I always wish for in a stock Google ROM.
I was bummed Q didn't have one. And I don't mean to hijack or any disrespect. For anyone reading I have personally never tried this mod. And my experience is not a meant to over shadow this mod and or thread. Just saw others with the same issue is all. And go for it if you want to start a new thread. I am trying on my lady's pixel 2 xl because hers she just told does the same thing.
