I can hardly wait....something to look forward too, or should I say something to keep me from doing my Algebra homework!!!!!!!!
Open Touch v3.0 SlimLine Beta 1
Folks,
The beta 1 version has been sent to the beta team and they will be testing it shortly. I'm going to wait until Monday to release the final since I want to insure that there are fewer issues then the last release.
Sorry for the wait,
i'm definitely awaiting this release. comm manager and no repeating alarm clock were my only issues with the 2.7 release. extra speed from wm 6.1 sounds a little too enticing.
edit...
i know this may not be the best place for requests, but is there anyway to include the tmobile today screen plugin? i really like how it shows the wifi and bluetooth status really clean and simple on the today screen. even an install cab would be awesome.

Impatiently waiting....
If you can somehow make the best rom that I have seen for the wing even better, then I can't wait to flash it on my phone. I feel like a child waiting for Christmas!!!!! Monday will not come soon enough. Thanks for the time and hard work you put into these roms ttran! When I am not so strapped for cash I will make a donation. Thanks!
damn ttran holly**** ur moving from one project to another speed lighting your work is awesome ur gonna be like the most hard working cooker in the wing and herlad scene
If possible - when you make a slimeline version again. Could you include a cab for the CUBE that you may exclude from that version. I am using slimeline 2.7 cube right now and its pretty SWEET! Thanks
Duc
Ver. 2.7 is awesome so I cant wait to see what 3.0 will bring with WM 6.1. Hopefully we'll have a slim line version with TouchFlo and Cube. Thanks ttran for all your great work!
ttran is it possible to remove office 2007 and PIM Backup 2.5 and

I only remove and add stuff if a lot of folks request it, it's only fair to all.
When I have time I might do a more strip down one like a lite version.
ttran you down to add the leak htc cube lol j/k j/k glad the 2.0 is finally final now i can relaxed this weekend and enjoy 2.7 back to flashing on monday at skool btw office doesn't use that much space and pim backup is only like a few kb i think
version 3 already lol i just finished loading 2.7!
cant wait to see what 3.0 has to offer though.
Now that the whole Cyanogen deal happened I've been having a hard time finding the perfect donut release to follow. Any suggestions? Also what would you guys say to be the most stable Hero to be used day to day at this current time?
This is in the wrong section, but I use KingxKxKlick 1.9
Wrong section....
Yes, this definitely in the wrong section, check out Q&A instead. Soon a mod will fix this, but keep it up, and you'll be temp banned.
That said, CyanMod is still an excellent, stable, fast Donut build. If you're looking to try Hero, I have used about a dozen, and Kingklick's is easily the best, and since about 1.7 has been completely stable--no swap partition or cpu overclocking needed, and it's still so fast it's just disgusting.
Cyanogen is still actively developing his ROM. I would suggest following him on twitter.. @cyanogen
I would suggest that you just keep using Cyanogen. If you have too much trouble installing, just install this version. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=569825
In theory, once installed, you can just install Cyan's official updates when he releases them.
With Hero ROMs, I found that in EVERY Hero release people claim its THE best Hero ROM available, so you gonna have to do some flashing to find out for yourself.
Now I use Hero3G UNI, others swear by Evil Hero 3.0 and MLIGN-HeroV2.5.5. These 3 ROM will need different and most likely customized user.conf settings. For Hero3G I found 196 swap w/100 swappiness and CC OFF works best. For Evil Hero you also need 196 swap partition.

There are some that are good, but some are the best. It all depends on how it runs on your device and how you config the user.conf.
Just remember, even with Donut, Hero ROMs have a lot of bells and whistles, but still lack core function like BT or Google Voice Support.
Cyan is my recommendation, and cyan is hinting at a very very soon update.
If you want to play with a new toy, try Motoblur, just be aware it lacks wifi.
it all depends on you. right now we have 3 working roms not including the pulse rom.
original android by cyanogen, [everything works]
hero by about 8 people (htcs own google ui), [bluetooth doesnt work, also im noticing flash doesnt either.]
blur [stable but slow, but good for social networks, no wifi]
just download the 3 different roms and test em out, dont just test one hero rom tho test em all and find what you like. but please do post in the q&a.

Google Voice works fine for me on KingKlick's 1.9...
Also, some other Hero threads claim to have bluetooth working, but I have tried them and keep going back to KingKlick because they are all too slow.
I also wouldn't recommend MotoBLUR yet, unless you are very experienced and want to help the devs. It's still waaay experimental, way more than just wifi doesn't work.
But all the Hero/Blur/experimental stuff aside, if you just want a good, stable, feature-rich, fast ROM, stick with Cyanogen. Hate to be so blunt, but he is simply the best.

Oh Nice! You can use it with the normal dialer? Not through contacts?
i've been using enomther's donut rom. seems to be working very nicely. haven't used cyan's 'newest' rom because he kept saying 4.2 was around the corner and I kept waiting. Last week also said he had some updates for the .999 build and was going to add another 9, but never released it. Also enom's rom has a hero theme addon for his latest release. Whereas nabzilla is also waiting on cyan's 4.2 to release an updated theme for that.

Nexus One and G1 Owner here.
HelixLauncher1.4 beta is an updated Launcher for 2.1 I keep my G1 as a backup and was getting it all updated and last minute I decided to test out the 1.4 beta version out a few days ago. It is absolutely blazing fast on a G1 and includes the 4 Docked items at the bottom.
You basically have to pay like $3.99 for the "depositors Area". He released the full versions for free, but the beta ones require the website login.
Anyways, My first post related to a G1, but this thing is amazing. I wish i had this setup when i used my g1. I would not have bothered upgrading.

That is the thread. Ignore the 7 pics. Those are way old, and the launcher looks just like the Stock Nexus 2.1 version now with 4 docked shortcuts aruond it. Oh and the App Drawer is NO LAG scrolling...
I heard somewhere that fresh was working on the latest ROM for the Hero (2.3 I think was the version he was working on). Does anyone know when this is going to be released?
nobody really knows. i believe that there is a beta for his donaters out though, so maybe soon
According to one of his tweets earlier today, he just sent out the beta to donor's and testers. I imagine it will not be too long before it's released to the masses.

Great, I thought about going to the Evo4G, but where I live, there isn't 4G for 300 miles in any direction, so that just doesn't justify the mandatory $10 extra per month. I definitely will when 4G spreads in the next year.
But anyway, can't wait to see Fresh 2.3! Currently using Fresh, gotta say it's excellence!
I'm guessing Fresh 2.3 is still based on Sprint 2.1?
When is there going to be any alternate ROMs to run on the Captivate?
All I see are samsung ROMs that can be loaded on the Captivate, and they're all loaded up with crappy samsung touchwiz. Whether its "Cognition" or JF6 or JH7 or JI6, etc. the fact remains that these are all crappy samsung ROMs. Where's all the "openness" that I hear the pro-android crowd pumping day in and day out?
I guess I dont understand much about android, but why is it impossible to just load a purely stock version of the OS on the phone and have it run? I hate touchwiz. I hate the bluetooth stack that samsung put on the phone (no WII-mote gaming). I hate the absolutely ridiculous file system that samsung uses. I hate the fact that it takes 20 seconds to open up the phone dialer.
My dialer opens instantly and i like touchwiz.
But the 2.1 sources are there, if someone wants to build a generic 2.1 they can. I guess if someone really wanted it, they would build it.
It sounds like you would like to commission someone to build a Stock Android 2.1 build for the Captivate. You could try to motivate someone with a cash bounty.
Why not search the forum and see what is available for the phone instead of complaining. Roms are available that remove touchwiz and boatwear. Or get a phone that would suit you more since learning about android and the captivate don't work well for you.

Yea, I would love a stock 2.1 or 2.2. Someone in the developer forum tried building an AOSP 2.1 but they stopped. They put out a version 0.1 and it had so much wrong with it, it was worthless. Things like having voice while on a call or being able to use data are pretty important things on a smartphone.

There is work being done right now on getting as close to aosp as they can......search cde aosp or browse the dev forum.
Also there are i9000 reorient roms you can run
Sent telepathically using vulcan mind meld app and aosp beta 3 froyo
The devs are working on a Froyo AOSP rom. I'm sure it will be finalized and released for general consumption once the 2.2 source code is released.
You won't see any "true" AOSP builds until the devs can get the source from Samsung and find out how intertwined TW is integrated with the OS.
So you can flash to what is available currently or wait till early 2011 for the "final" ROMS to start coming out of the woodwork. Samsung announced that 2.2 is slowly rolling out to all Samsung Galaxy S devices this Oct... in Europe - so I don't think the Captivate crowd will see the update until late Nov/Dec of this year.
I know Design Gears is attempting to build one that is as close as your going to get to one right now. He almost has a "stable" build going but it is still being tweaked.
But.. the latest 2.2 Cognition build currently has TW removed and Launcher Pro installed. It isn't perfect but it is close to what you are looking for. I prefer .6 and kept TW on as the phone seems to rely on it pretty heavily for functionality. Only issue I get is a lag spike here and there but otherwise it runs great.
