Hey guys. So, i got my Dell Streak 7 last night from my uncle for a present...and ive spent all day getting apps and such. The problem is, i have noticed that if i plug my Streak 7 into my laptop, it doesnt detect anything. The Streak charges and a Is battery indicator app i have says its an AC instead of USB. If i cant connect my streak to my computer, i cant get all my music, pictures, etc onto there, or root it.
Is there a way i can fix this? ive tried on twodifferent laptops,so it isnt my computer that ismessed up.
It is a T-Mobile Dell Streak 7 running on 2.2.2 and is the 4G and wifi Device.
Thanks guys.
And also,i love everything ive seen on the site so far, and thanks for the answers to questions on my other devices!
Need more info.
OS of PC's? Have you installed the drivers?
oh right...i used a toshiba and hp...both on windows 7 home premium...i have installed the drivers but when i plug the tablet into the computer nothing pops up. it doesnt ask for the driver or say its installing one..my computer is acting like an outlet and therefore, i cant view files or even see that its plugged into the computer.I go to my computer and nothings there.
What ROM do you have?
I have the same problem, and worried about the lack of solution in this thread so far.
Is this a reported bug?
I'm using XP on an old Toshiba notebook.

Honeycomb does not support USB as a drive, that's why Win XP doesn't recognized the tablet when you plugged it in.
Im using Gingerbread 2.2.2, so does the same thing go for that as honeycomb? thanks

There is no way you are running Gingerbread, period. End of story.
Perhaps you have a Streak 5?

is it GB or Froyo because 2.2 is froyo and not GB, you are mixing conflicting information and as a result you wont be able to get the resolution you desire. have you tried using airdroid to transfer the files? you are capable of setting up an adhoc network with the win7 laptops then transmit the files to the streak once you have connected that to the adhoc network... dont be useless, go to the about phone/about tablet tab under settings, tell us the android version and the model number, even OEM version
I have a similar issue i bought 2 dell streak 7s i rooted first just fine took a few youtube clips and alot of reading... Like i said first tablet rooted running great, i plug in second tablet to begin its root process and i get an error dont recall exact message something about over voltage on usb port, then the computer rebooted, restarted plugged in again no message but wouldnt see streak, plugged back rooted one computer sees it, unplugged put nonrooted one in went threw this 5 times trying diffrent usb ports and a diffrent usb cable just wouldnt see tablet since inital usb overvolt.... It charges just fine on wall but does nothing on pc.... I think i got 1 lemon....

It seems that when I try to connect my n1 to my CPU, my CPU can not recognize my n1 SD card while its in USB mode.
I am currently running window 7 32b. I thought it was my windows that was faulty so reformat my CPU with fresh copy of windows. However that was not the case. So I tried my other computer running windows XP and it picks up the SD card instantly. So I tried a new SD card in my N1 tried it again. Didn't work. I am confused. Everytime I need to transfer files from my CPU to my n1 I have to pull out the SD card. Its strange. All the drives were installed correctly but it will not detect. Other CPU will detect. Is anyone having this issue with windows 7 on your computer. I wan to fix this. Its really getting annoying. Please if you guys have any ideas let me know. I even called HTC and they figured out its my CPU not the phone. And I agree. It works on other windows but not my windows 7.

Make sure usb debugging is checked marked before trying to mount....See if that works

USB debugging works fine. I am able to use adb commands. Funny thing is phone thinks its in USB mode. There's got to be some driver issue or something. Drivin me crazy.

If all else fails...get one of those WiFi file transfer apps. Way, Way, Way faster than transfering through the USB cord on the N1 (tops out at 2mbps).

Thx I will give it a try.

Try another PC. My Home PC that I built used to recognize it... then stopped... then wouldn't for weeks... and just the other day I noticed it found it (after a minute).
Today on my netbook (EeePC 1000HE) it gave me fits a few times before coming up.
Nothing really changed on my Home PC really and USB sticks would read just fine, but not my N1. I know I reset the thing many times without success so finding it working was surprising.
One thing I use are my existing mini-usb cables and I picked up these little mini-micro usb converters. Perhaps those are flaky?

My question is i cannot connect my Galaxyi896 phone to my computer because it states the multimedia controller and video controller is not there(Gives Code 28)... I am using windows 7 64 bit and i have downloaded the drivers but am still getting this message.. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated..
Again sorry if this is in the wrong place or has been asked already...

To be honest i don't think its the phone... bcuz i am able to connect it to my labtop and it seems to work its just the computer does not pick this up.. Anything and everything else works on the computer other than my phone...
Have you tried to change USB cables? The one I got from ATT died fairly quickly, after I replaced it, my phone connected again to my computer.

The cable i have is the original samsung cable and as mentioned earlier when connecting it to my labtop it works... I have been reading up a bit on other forums and i think it has to do with my computer not being able to recognize the device.. hopefully i can find something useful and post it here to help anybody else. if anyone else got any ideas, please share...
since i cant seem to connect my VZW Galaxy Tab SCH-I800 to my computer via USB, im wondering if there is any way to root it without using a computer at all?

That is actually a very common issue, and bad USB port is also common.
OK guys, really need help guys. I can't get MTP to even be detected on my HP Windows 7 64bit laptop. I have 2 Nexus 7's, one I accidentally dropped and the screen cracked and became unresponsive, or at least half of it.....but anyways it had no problems with the laptop actually detecting an MTP device was detected and installed the driver. Now with my new one, no matter what I do, it wont detect it. I called Google and had a 30 minute talk, but to no avail. Now, what really twists my leg is that when I plug it in to my HP Windows XP 32bit desktop, it detects it and installed it! So I'm so confused right now, if ANYONE has the answer to my troubles, please help!

Can I guess that you haven't deleted the drivers that worked with your original N7? Rather than typing "Device Manager" instructions have a look at http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
i was having this problem as well. no pc would recognize the device was even plugged in.. although the nexus 7 would still change while plugged into pc. windows 7, xp, and linux... nothing. this is using the cable that came with my nexus 7. i don't think it's cut out for data. just for kicks i used a motorola droid 3 cable and bingo worked instantly.... hmmmmmmmmmm.

i finally got MTP to work on my Windows 7 by following these steps: http://www.nexus7tablethelp.com/2012/08/connect-nexus-7-to-windows-xpvista7.html.
i don't even know if the download was necessary, what i did was go to 'devices'. and unspecified Nexus 7 device was there. i right-clicked on it and selected 'troubleshoot', and within a minute it had an option to install the drivers.
usb cable that comes with nexus 7 is bunk.
it doesn't work for crap. it charges.. i've checked the pins to make sure clean, etc... i feel like i got only a charging cable for some reason. it won't charge other things though such as a droid 3 phone. but the droid 3 cable works for data without any special song or dance. i'm upset because the droid 3 belongs to my roommate and i don't have any other cable that will work. so lame asus. i have not been able to find a straight answer from anyone in months. same thing over and over again.. install drivers, blah blah blah go in the device manager upgrade driver try pdanet. none of this works if the hardware on the most basic level is not interfacing.
So I've run into a weird issue that was happening with my Atrix HD the last few days of its life too and now over to the note on my laptop.
I know this is probably a more computer specific problem, as it's recognized on my desktop but I'm running outta ideas here so maybe someone can help?
I've been flashing and rooting and all that jazz since android was released so I know how to work it and my thinkpad was accepting mtp/android connections as recently as september. I unlocked my Atrix HD bootloader and all that but couldn't get the phone to accept the twrp so eventually I just gave up because it was just a stop gap phone.
But now with my new Note 3, I can plug the phone to the laptop and it'll charge but it doesn't bring up the MTP notification (all my androids do this now)
I've checked device manager, it's not even an unknown device in the list..so weird.
Anyone run into this issue before? I know it's not really phone specific but yeah.
thanks in advance
Are you using it on a USB 3.0 port? My home pc only recognizes mine if it's plugged into USB 2.0. Fought this same fight last night myself. Good luck.

Do you guys have BC 1.1 enabled on your machines? If so that's why the 3.0 port doesn't work.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk 5
to both of you, my thinkpad (for some awful reason) doesn't have usb 3.0, so no there isn't any USB 3.0 issues.
Literally plug it into my laptop, and nothing. no response from the computer at all not even in device manager, just starts charging as if the phone was plugged into a low voltage socket or something.
baffling.
works absolutely fine on my desktop, but I don't have all my adb and sdk tools set up the way I like them on there.
I have no idea.
ERR edit that it just started working :/ weirdd
Verizon note 3 here - same issue.
Do you guys have any programs that's suppose to charge devices faster with usb? It has to be software related on your laptop

To everyone with this problem, you have to specifically download the Note 3 drivers from Samsung
samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SM-N900VZWEVZW
I was having the same problem, but now both Kies and manual usb file transfer work perfectly on Windows 8
I have same problem here as well ?? its not reconizing my phone in usb 3.0 and i have the newest drives as well for note 3 gn 9005
got it working
Had the same problem after trading in handset, maybe there is some kind of hardware identifier messing things up for usb?
I removed (uninstalled and deleted) drivers for usb, including for hub then reinstall hub drivers followed by reinstall driver option in Kies3 to install samsung drivers. This got everything working.

Your going to mess your phone up some kind of bad playing with those settings if you don't know what your doing. Also please don't recommend doing any of that without a trustworthy source because you can cause another person to mess up their phone as well.
The Note 3 does NOT support BC 1.1. That's what "Fast Charge" or whatever they call it is. Your phone will not use that connection so there is no workaround, just disable the BC 1.1 function.

Yes I stand corrected however I always mess with these settings in order to unlock 90% of the gsm galaxy lineup. This is just a different way of mounting your phone to the computer at least that is what I was told and have been doing for a while. I have tried all the methods on the note 3 and so far no problem. I have been using my phone like this for a while without any hiccups and I had this usb problem since day one on my SAMSUNG laptop so I tried this method which worked. You can easily switch back to the same setting but once again you might be right about the messing up your phone part. FYI MTP just stands for media trasnfer protocal I think so I went with it after a little research.
Just letting everyone know what worked for me no harm done

I tried installing the drivers from samsung with no luck and then tried this and no luck either. GOD DAMNIT! Why is google making it harder and harder to do this ****? Why can't it be as simple as moving files to another other usb drive like it used to be.
IT works!!it actually works..
what i did was,,download kies 3,supported kies for note 3, and go to Tools tab, and see the option "reinstall device driver" dont unplug your note 3,,and voila!!just wait a while, and see how the kies recognize ur note 3..

Do you plug it in USB port 3.0 or in 2.0? Mine, either port are not working
Try using a USB hub,,, 2.0 or 3.0.... this will work......
Go to device manager then to USB find the Samsung driver uninstall. Plug your note 3 in then your system will see your note 3 and reinstall your drivers. Then your good to go.
