Without flashing the radio it isn't likely for a Verizon phone to run a sprint/boost signal

Nope. When they check up, it's usually just the IMEI. They ask what you're using (KB1, JH7...) but they assume most don't even know what that means or where to find that info.
I recently have called them from my phone and they didn't mention anything about it not being stock. When I look at my account online from my computer it still shows the captivate.

I'd be careful with Cyanogen though. When I flashed Cyanogen, I received an e-mail from Google saying "Welcome to Nexus S!". I didn't check, but I wouldn't be surprised as AT&T started listing my number online as a Nexus S or some other random Android phone that isn't the Captivate.
In fact, that same question occurred to me today, because I'm running Cyanogen on my HTC Inspire and I need to dial in so they can set up my Voicemail (for some reason, whenever I switch phones my voicemail gets screwed up).

Are you sure you got it on cyanogen, and not on supercurios port? Because the cm rom has correct model numbers, where as supercurios port is a direct rip from the Nexus S.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
The email you receive is not from at&t and is just because the rom uses nexus s market foot print.
Sent from my Captivate using XDA Premium App
The answer is almost certainly no. There is a capability using device management tools to report back ROM details but right now the care reps don't have any access to it or any procedures that use it. They don't even have access to your IMEI so don't worry about custom ROMs unless you are physically returning the device.

What's more, based on my experiences with the Customer Service reps, most of them wouldn't care. The Front Office might, if you had to send in your phone, but every CS rep I've ever talked to has been mighty laid-back about the "rules."

I realize that. But because of the fact that it uses the Nexus S market footprint, it would also (logically) use the same Nexus S footprint over the AT&T network. Otherwise, what you said makes no sense.

Oh gosh that is so far from wrong it's not funny. "Care reps", otherwise known as technicians who fix your problems have every right to access your IMEI number without your consent. Your phone's IMEI is stored by AT&T as a ref number, and can be accessed from the AT&T database at any given time, even by the technicians.

There is an IMEI record for the device you purchased NOT what you are actually using on the network. There is also a TAC reference collected by OTA whenever the SIM goes into a new device, but the care reps (industry standard term, btw) have no scripts using it as far as I know. For example, AT&T still reports me as having a Bold 9700 on my 1st line when it has actually been a Cappy since August. Bottom line, AT&T generally doesn't give a crap what device you use.

Happened to me....I never used supercurios...only CM7.
Fot the OP I doubt they can tell....even less they don't care. I used the sim from an old Sony dumb phone in my old unlocked Nokia N79...and used an unlimited data plan for $15 and tethered.
So yeah, don't worry.

I wanted to try it too, but web site says that they have no numbers at this time.
I will have to check back later. I'm trying to use CSipSimple app with antisip and I'm getting no where.
I'm on DlevRom 5.0 with DarkCore, so I'm going to his thread and ask if his Rom will allow wifi calling.
Just to throw this out there -
From what I understand (and it could be wrong), if AT&T can't provide service to you in a given area, they're not technically holding up their end of the TOS of your contract, and you would have grounds to get out of your contract without having to pay the ETF. Basically, when you signed on, they said they would provide you with cellular phone service and you would provide them with monetary compensation. If they can't give you the service, they are in breach of contract, and you shouldn't (keyword: shouldn't) have to stay in the contract with them.
I'm no AT&T (or cell phone plans in general) expert, so take this with a grain of salt, but you might want to call AT&T and have a discussion about this and see what your options are.
Anyone else have any thoughts / opinions / experience with this issue?

No offense but why do people want to take nice phones and gimp them on MetroPCS? The service is garbage. If you want prepaid, then get it flashed to PagePlus if anything (many times you don't even need to flash anything, it will just work after activating and programming OTA). There are a couple decent phones on Metro (LG Connect or LG Esteem, namely), it's easier (and probably cheaper) than getting a Verizon phone finally working on their network properly.

Well from previously working for MetroPCS, i can honesty say there are some area other carriers don't have any service in that metro does because they have their own towers, and if there in MetroPCS 3g coverage then i don't see how they would "gimp" there phone plus if they wanna pay 1/3 of there monthly price on Verizon i don't see why not..
An alternative people could use is unlocking there bionic and use a prepaid gsm carrier like simple mobile.

Simple Mobile is also pretty terrible (I am a Simple Mobile dealer myself). Does Metro even actually have 3G? I remember when their 4G LTE started (which from my testing is slower than Sprint's 3G coverage), they only had 1x and 4G, but no 3G.

[Q] Bionic on H20 wireless

Wife and I just bought a Motorola droid bionic, Been reading that it is possible to put on the h20 wireless network. I have been messing with the phone all day. I finally got pass the setup at the start, First I was getting "this sim is from an unknown source" error, I bypassed that now I am trying to determine if I am able to take it to h20 wireless or not. I don't want to forced to pay the $80 a month w/verizon.
Phone is Verizon Droid Bionic,
I have the h20 sim, but i get the above error.
I have found a way to bypass the setup as mentioned above, I forgot to mention i have a "no Sim" error now" Would this be because of H20?
Trying to solve this A.S.A.P my pageplus plan expires 2mrw, then i will have no phone.
Any ideas?

I'm on page 12, I am very confused on where to even start for 1. I know its not as simple as popping the sim card in and it working. Good thing is i have both an h20 wireless sim and at&t sim so i can go to either. But i prefer h20 so i can return the AT&T phone.
Would it be too much to ask for some step by step help with this process? My wife wants to return this phone and get another one, But were both disabled and can't afford to put any more $ out so i've been reading 4 the last 2hours.
Thanks in advance.
In my opinion not enough is known yet for the bionic to be a reliable gsm phone. When I had mine on AT&T it got a weak signal. My friend is on AT&T and a lot of times he would have a good signal and I wouldn't have one at all, and like I said earlier different bionics seem to have different results. I read in that forum that on person had like 1 out of 3 that the mod worked on. If I were you I would sell the bionics and buy at&t phones. But that's only my opinion.

Update
Ok, so I was playing with the sim card.1. this is my first phone ever with a needed sim card. So i was playing with it thinking i might have put it in backwards or something.
so my guess i did, no i am no longer getting a grey ANT with red circle, i am getting no signal and when i attempt to make call i get the following error " outgoing calls are restricted by FDN".. In my mind this is progress to me.
But what is my next step?:good:
Thinking about it

You'll find ruim in dfs, if you are using the hacked version of cdmaws, I'm not sure if it works or not. If it's too confusing for you then viper32 here can help you out with a remote flash if you're interested in having it done. He is highly qualified to do so, just check out some of his threads. There are plenty of tuts out there, just be careful and read all you can, as to not mess up your phone.
