Hello,
Prior to upgrading my (Rogers) Raider to ICS, I would have consistent "4G" service almost everywhere.
I installed the Bell Mobility RUU, added a Rogers APN and I'm in business. However, the service indicator stays on "3G" most of the time, but if I pick the phone up, I get "H" for about 10 seconds, then it reverts back to "3G". I've tried numerous APNs and none seem to make a difference.
Does anyone else have this problem? Better yet, anyone have a solution?
Thanks!
EDIT:
Through more research, I've found that the phone switches to H when using data and switches back to 3G when idle. While part of me likes that idea, does anyone know of a way to force the system to stay at H speed service unless it's not available? i.e. how every other phone I've ever had works
I have noticed this. I never even though about it. I switch back and forth from a Bell and Rogers cards all the time.

Rogers lies. Their rom probably shows 4G even when you are on 3g. Before I flashed the Bell RUU onto my phone (sim unlocked to Bell) it said 4G even though there is no LTE where I am. Once I had the bell rom it showed when I was on 3G and when I was on HSPA+. The phone switches to 3g when you aren't using data in order to save battery life. This is my third android phone and they all have done this. It most likely did with the Rogers rom but they altered it to show 4G anyways

I don't dispute that they lie but I like the speeds I got before I upgraded to ICS. When I had Rogers' "4G" I would get an average download speed of 5 to 6 Mbps. When I was near LTE that increased to about 40Mbps. Now with this 3G/H combo I have, my speed is capped at about 700Kbps download.
So far, no features of ICS are worth the reduction of speed...as it is quite noticeable. I don't even see an increase in battery life to help justify things.
Thanks for your insight! Now I just debate whether I wait it out and flash a Rogers ICS radio when it becomes available or revert back to GB...
svc518: I'm curious... when you go to About Phone, then Network, what does it say under "Mobile network type"?
if you figure out how to flash back to a GB RUU, please share. My Bell Raider is on the Bell ICS RUU and I was not able to flash back to Bell GB RUU (it checked the HBOOT version and said it wasn't right... I assume because I'm on the newer Bell ICS HBOOT). I dunno, maybe I'm missing something simple.

It was constantly changing, depending on whether or not data was being used. I don't remember what exactly they'd change between but one was UMTS.

I managed to get back to Rogers' GB then did the OTA update to ICS. My original problem is fixed: my phone stays on "4G" all the time and I get the download/upload speeds I used to.
Here is an overview of *as much as I can remember* of what ended up being successful for me. It was not simple (for me), took me a few tries, a few bootloops, lots of beer and a plethora of profanity. I won't be able to offer much assistance...so follow in my footsteps and appeal to Google if you get stuck:
Relock Bootloader --> Install Bell ICS Stock RUU (again) --> Unlock Bootloader --> S-OFF --> Install GB HBOOT from unlimited.io (their written directions are wrong for the Vivid...use the picture they have) --> Install Bell GB RUU
Make sure you find some set of instructions on a forum somewhere that seem to jive with those steps. In case of discrepancies, assume I am wrong. All these things change when you throw custom ROMs and Recoveries into the mix and I'm new at this. Google saved my ass, my engineering degree probably helped in the step by step research about what to do next...

So I've had this phone for almost a week now and I used to he able to get 4g LTE. But ever since I rooted it, I no longer get more than 3g. I now have bananacakes Holiraider 1.6 but I still don't get any higher than 3g. So my question is how do I get 4g and 4g lte. Oh and if anyone is using that custom Rom, is it possible to get faster than 1512? In his thread it shows you can clock it to 1566. Thanks a bunch I'm kinda new to this!
try dialing *#*#4636#*#* and see what your modem is set to, it should be GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto
you also may have an APN issue, verifiy that your APN is correct, perhaps contact your carrier for the correct APN settings for you phone and plan.
Well I'm now running a custom ROM. The apn is the same as other users and it does say the above. And yes I am in a 4G LTE area
Sent from my HTC Raider X710e using XDA App
Try doing the above and change to LTE only.
Then once you have 4G change it back. It should stay on 4G. I had to do this to get 4G on official rom.
Ok I just tried that but it wouldn't let me to switch it to LTE only. When I did, it switched it back to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto. I'm just gonna relock my phone and set it back to the original stock rom and format my phone (yes I have the apps and stuff backed up). Because my actual mobile connection fluctuates on and off as well
the phone should be locked into the GSM/WCDMA/LTE setting. If you try to change it from that setting it just returns back. The phone will get instructions from the carrier's base station to tell it whether to be on LTE or just 4G/3G. Using *#*#4636#*#* under phone information, what is listed as the Network type?

It is locked in GSM/WCDM/LTE auto.
above that option it should tell you the network type. it is about half way between the "run ping test" button and the "Set Preferred Network type" option. Need to know what it says there.
Oh ok I see what you mean, it says HSDPA
make sure that you are in a active LTE area. toggle the radio off and on. the network type should change to LTE if it is available. remember that if you make a phone call your phone will drop back to just 4g/3g and it might take a second for it to switch back to LTE.
I live in Los Angeles so I'm like in the center of the LTE center in Southern California. But for some reason my phone won't get anything higher than 3G, and my actual cellphone reception toggles on and off randomly too.
It worked before. For the first 3 days atleast. And now all of the sudden it wouldn't work, so I rooted it and installed a custom ROM
Try one of WildChilds custom ROMS. LTE works on both and they're tailored to US users.

if the problem arised before you rooted and rom'd the phone I doubt the rom is the problem. there is always the chance that you have a bad radio.

That's what I'm thinking... What would I do about this?
i would verify your sim with another 4gLTE phone and vice versa.
Hrm... So it could be a Sim card problem eh? Unfortunately there are no other LTE devices for me to get a hold of... Would this be the only way?
it could be. i hope you have pulled battery/sim and then rebooted already. you can verify your phone with a known good sim and verify your sim with a known good phone. I would try your local at&t store. they might be able to help.

Hey guys I just got my new Raider LTE from bell yesterday, and decided to flash this rom "VJRaider ROM for HTC Raider/Vivid/Holiday"
I was just wondering if anyone else on the bell or any other network using this rom and the required kernel are having issues with connection speeds? I notice too that it jumps alot between 3g and hspa alot too, most I have gotten is 1.5 mbps on a speedtest.
Tested my Atrix and I got 14 mpbs same area and coverage.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
I guess the first question would be did you flash through fastboot on PC or using a different method?
Which of cache/dalvik/data did you wipe prior to installing the ROM?
Did you make sure the APN info in the Raider is consistent with the Atrix?

The 3G/H flicker thing is a know bug, even stock ROM has it, the difference is that stock ROM only shows 4G icon for every type of network, no matter if you are on a 3G, HSPA, HSPA+ or 4G network, it will always show the 4G icon.
For the speed you can check your APNs, it must be a different one from the one you are using on your Atrix. Try to delete every APN and create new ones based on the Atrix ones.
Awesome thanks guys, I had flashed back to stock to try and fix it, I also changed the apn settings and it seemed to make no difference, Bell uses some hybrid network so that could possibly have had am effect. Flashing back to custom Rom now that I know its a known issue.
Cheers
You could also try changing MTU through ifconfig, but this could cause reliability issues. So far, I've only changed MTU on the 802.11 radio for this phone.
Hey, I'm in Australia (GSM) and I purchased a Motorola Droid 3 (XT862) from America a few months ago.
Should I have bought the XT860 (GSM version)?
I was with Optus but because they don't support the 850mhz network I switched to Vodafone because they had it. So now I atleast have data working on my phone after those months of not having it, but vodafone sucks, especially on this phone (text messages sometimes don't send/signal cuts out all the time) but the 3G is very good.
The phone I previously had before the Droid 3 was a HTC Tmobile G2 which I had also bought from America, and everything worked perfectly.
If I buy the XT860 will it fix everything?
On the Motorola website it says the XT862 and XT860 have the same networks... but the XT680 is supposed to be used on GSM, so would it work fine?
Sorry if I confused anyone, I'm really baked.
Thanks in advance for anyone trying to help
Maybe you could try the T-MOBILE AT&T hack?

i have XT 862, on GSM and it works perfectly. More than that, I use also vodafone
The xt860 (and xt883) would not be any better; all they (along with the xt862) support UTMS 850/1900/2100mHz. Thus, you probably didn't get a lot of 3G on the Optus network (which uses 900/2100mHz). The main Vodafone 3G network in Aus is 900/2100mHz, but they are in the process of rolling out an 850mHz network.
Telstra Next-G uses 850mHz (and they have 2100mHz as well, but only in cities I believe)
Anyway, in brief: If you're willing to switch to Telstra, you should get great results. If not, Vodafone is the next best option.
I have xt862 on optus in Austraia. I just stay in global mode. I did experiment around with some of the custom roms but found weirdnesses like my calls not coming thru. I went back to stock and now im going to stay on stock until cm9 reaches release. Im not having any issues on stock.
Hope this helps

Just did it, I suppose it improved the situation a tiny bit, but i'm not sure.
I will do some tests on the Telstra network, see if it's better than Vodafone.
Im using the phone in Global mode atm and I'm getting a decent 3-4 bars instead of the 1 or 2 i'd normally get which excites me
And the network type is displaying HSPA.
But I cannot send text messages, everytime, it just says "Text message not sent" which is very annoying. Anyone know anything about this? When I swapped over to Vodafone from Optus I could send texts but after a point it just stopped working...
Anyone know anything about this?
thanks
So does the droid 3 bought from usa connect to data services with optus at all?
How fast is data transfer in "global" mode?
late reply i know, but I'm on TPG [Optus network] in Qld, Aus with the droid 3 XT862.
from memory, all i've done is done the 'hack' to show actual reception, rather than 1 bar. I run the phone on the global setting.
I just ran a speedtest.net check, got an internode server in Sydney. ping 139ms, DL 5241kbps, UL 1202kbps.
OP, when you were with Optus, did you go through your account settings and make sure you had 3G data turned on for your phone, etc? I'm not trying to patronise or anything, but it always helps to start with the basics when fault finding.
Regards,
Hi All,
Im also in Australia, with Vodafone, and am looking at getting myself a Droid 3 as well.
Since the phones aren't released here, what happens about software updates? Im assuming they won't happen via OTA?
Im leaning towards the XT860, rather than the XT862, any particular reason to go for either?
Thanks,

No difference between them but the xt860 has more dedicated roms here. Both are the same phone and just build.prop edits are needed to get the phones up and running in 5 mins. OTA updates will still work anywhere tho if you root and mod your phone don't use use the OTA feature as you will screw your phone.
All you need to do select wcdma/gsm mode and manually put in your service provider APNs to get 3G. Find this on the Voda site.

I managed to get a xt862, but I cant get data working on optus? (live connected)
calls/text works - tried global mode, tried GSM/UMTS mode, tried manually selecting optus 3g network, made sure the data setting was enabled which is actually under "battery & data manager". Already manually input the optus apn.
what am I missing?
Do you have to do the tmobile at&t hack? running everything stock from factory; or will rooting the phone/install ics help?
I have the one bar reception bug which I read on another thread if that makes a difference.
nvm, got it to work, for some reason manually inputting an APN didnt work, had to find the optus site and send it via sms.
Speed isnt too bad.
The next problem now though is wireless hotspot. It connects but no data goes through for some reason

If the xt862 is the verizon version, I have read that verizon have blocked the hotspot stuff from working.
I looked back in the forum a couple weeks for similar threads but couldn't find one that was just like this issue.
On the stock ROM that came with the phone and with the d3rpOne ROM (Android 4.1.2, HTC Sense 5) I can get LTE working fine. I don't think it even really requires any airplane/network mode toggling.
This morning I tried Beanstalk (Android 4.3, CM 10.2) and two different releases of another CM ROM (Android 4.3, CM 10.2 and Android 4.2.2, CM 10.1).
The general instructions with those ROMs were just to toggle the network mode between LTE/CDMA and CDMA only, or to toggle airplane mode. Neither worked.
So how can I fix this? I don't really like Sense-based ROMs, but I definitely don't want to be without a good data signal.
Having the same problem. With the stock ROM, I get 4G. On CM 10.1.3, I can get 3G after toggling the network mode, but I can't get 4G.
LTE works for me using beanstalk with out doing anything special
Yeah, I got the impression that was the norm with most people. I might not have read the full thread, but I did read the first and last few pages and it seemed like everyone got 4G working at some point.
Glad I'm not the only one with this issue, though!
Bump for a new week.

That sounds like a good solution, but it's still not doing it for me.
I went to APNs and selected "Sprint LTE Internet". That alone didn't do it. I toggled airplane mode, toggled my network mode, still nothing. I tried both Global and CDMA+LTE/EvDo. I gave it a few minutes for each one and still nothing. Rebooting didn't do it either.
Is there something I'm missing? How do my screenshots look? I read that someone wasn't getting an LTE indicator when they followed these steps, so just to confirm I tried to use my browser. I couldn't connect, so it's not just a matter of the signal icon being inaccurate.
I'm still seeing the same symptoms as Roboslim. Tried the same things, got the same results.

I'm not very experienced beyond flashing self-contained ROMs, so I just got a ZIP someone posted in the Sprint HTC One boards and flashed that without any modifications. It didn't break anything when I went back to a Sense-based ROM, so I'm assuming it's alright.
As for unlocking and leaving Sprint... I'm actually with Credo, who uses Sprint towers. I like them, plus I just started my contract, so I personally won't be leaving anytime soon.
One last bump, I guess.
I suppose if it comes down to it, I can deal with Sense. The system settings really are way too simplistic, but with Widget Locker and a custom launcher it's something I can live with.
Alright one MORE bump. I'm getting the CM itch again. I just gave the MoKee opensource ROM a try and am having the same issue as ever.
Are there any other possibilities out there?
Flash the latest nightly. It should work fine. Worst case do a reboot after a fresh flash when the new ROM is fully booted.
Also try installing the most current firmware.
Make sure you are set for CDMA+LTE/EVDO and also try "home only" with a stock PRL before straying from default.

I have been flashing the latest releases for multiple ROMs and have had the same issue with all of them. I've tried reboots each time too.
Now, I might need some education on the rest of that post. Where can I get the latest firmware? Would that be an official Sprint/HTC thing?
I've messed with a lot of different combinations of settings after flashing these ROMs. I've done CDMA+LTE/EVDO and I'm pretty sure I've done "home only" (would the other option be "automatic"?). As for the PRL, would updating it from the system settings give me a stock PRL?

There is a firmware thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2406330
Download the latest version and flash in CWM or TWRP.
The radios are the firmware images.
Changing the PRL can only be done in stock ROM, or by using QPST. The stock rom is by far the easiest if you have your MSL. Sprint should give you your MSL once you give tech support a call. If they don't then call back and get another tech. (I have never had a problem).
I would recommend using the latest stock PRL. I have noticed that if I try to roam on 3g there is a problem getting data (verizon towers IIRC). I believe that is because it is using EVDO vice eHRPD for 3g. What the difference is?? Well I don't know?
I do know that evdo and 1x still have ongoing issues. So I usually stick with home only to ensure that I stick with Sprint towers. I believe that this is the issue with me connecting to 3g data to my airave as well.
Could you post a screen shot of your APN settings?

I'll have to re-flash a CM ROM before posting a screenshot, but from what I recall my APN settings looked like your image. I had "Sprint LTE Internet" selected. I'll flash the latest firmware from that thread while I'm at it.
As for the MSL, I'm not getting my service directly through Sprint. Would I get the MSL from my carrier, then, or would I have to get in touch with Sprint somehow? Do you know how that works? Either way, that'll probably take a little more time and waiting around than just flashing some stuff.
Once I get that MSL, what are the steps to set my PRL?
Who is your carrier? Did you buy the Sprint version off contract?

Hello, I just purchased an unlocked HTC One M7 to use on Rogers. LTE works 100%, HSPA works 100%, 3G works 100% (meaning I can use the data flawlessly). HOWEVER, I cannot make or receive any phone calls if I am in GSM/HSPA/LTE mode.
When I call my phone while in LTE mode, I can see my phone switching from LTE to HSPA/3G immediately (that's supposed to happen since calls cannot be made over LTE atm) but the phone does not ring at all.
IF I put my phone in GSM/HSPA mode, then incoming/outgoing calls work flawlessly... if I switch back to LTE mode I can't make/receive phone calls anymore. I know for sure it's the LTE mode cuz I tried 4-5 times switching back and forth between GSM/HSPA/LTE to GSM/HSPA only mode and phone calls ALWAYS work under GSM/HSPA and RARELY work under GSM/HSPA/LTE (a couple times it did go through but 95% of the time it doesn't work).
I tried flashing a new modem, a new ROM and everything but it's still the same problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
EDIT - Just noticed that calls stop working in 3G mode too until I restart the phone
EDIT 2: Alright, from going through *#*#4636#*#* I've isolated it down to HSPA+. Phone calls ONLY work on HSPA+ and not when it's on 3G or LTE. Any ideas?
Flash a full ruu ?
My phone does this as well. but i dont have any problems getting calls or sending calls. If using LTE it drops to 3G while on the call. Though my phone is screwed and i never get HSPA+. Really wish there were more Bell users around.
I experimented all day yesterday with several different roms, downgrading down to JB back up to KitKat, tried a few different modems but still nothing calls ONLY work on HSPA.. u think it's a defective radio or something? my phones not under warranty either is there a way to get it fixed
i think its the firmware not matching up with radio. or having the wrong radio all together. I cant get S-off so its made it a pain in my ass. Ive pretty much given up hope lol. I could take my phone back to sense 5.5 stock with a nandroid that i have and everything works normal but i like sense 6 so ive just learned to deal.

With your issue, phone dropping to 3G while on call it is normal because right now there is no voice over LTE. So the phone has to drop down to the either HSPA or 3G, whichever one is available.
and yeah you might be right about not having the right modem, but I can't find a Rogers modem ANYWHERE. The only one I found was part of a RUU to get back to stock if anyone has even an oldd Rogers HTC One M7 radio, please please please post a TWRP/CWM flashable version of the modem lol
