Hello, I just purchased an unlocked HTC One M7 to use on Rogers. LTE works 100%, HSPA works 100%, 3G works 100% (meaning I can use the data flawlessly). HOWEVER, I cannot make or receive any phone calls if I am in GSM/HSPA/LTE mode.
When I call my phone while in LTE mode, I can see my phone switching from LTE to HSPA/3G immediately (that's supposed to happen since calls cannot be made over LTE atm) but the phone does not ring at all.
IF I put my phone in GSM/HSPA mode, then incoming/outgoing calls work flawlessly... if I switch back to LTE mode I can't make/receive phone calls anymore. I know for sure it's the LTE mode cuz I tried 4-5 times switching back and forth between GSM/HSPA/LTE to GSM/HSPA only mode and phone calls ALWAYS work under GSM/HSPA and RARELY work under GSM/HSPA/LTE (a couple times it did go through but 95% of the time it doesn't work).
I tried flashing a new modem, a new ROM and everything but it's still the same problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
EDIT - Just noticed that calls stop working in 3G mode too until I restart the phone
EDIT 2: Alright, from going through *#*#4636#*#* I've isolated it down to HSPA+. Phone calls ONLY work on HSPA+ and not when it's on 3G or LTE. Any ideas?
Flash a full ruu ?
My phone does this as well. but i dont have any problems getting calls or sending calls. If using LTE it drops to 3G while on the call. Though my phone is screwed and i never get HSPA+. Really wish there were more Bell users around.
I experimented all day yesterday with several different roms, downgrading down to JB back up to KitKat, tried a few different modems but still nothing calls ONLY work on HSPA.. u think it's a defective radio or something? my phones not under warranty either is there a way to get it fixed
i think its the firmware not matching up with radio. or having the wrong radio all together. I cant get S-off so its made it a pain in my ass. Ive pretty much given up hope lol. I could take my phone back to sense 5.5 stock with a nandroid that i have and everything works normal but i like sense 6 so ive just learned to deal.
if i could get any of the latest Bell or Telus radios it may be a help.

With your issue, phone dropping to 3G while on call it is normal because right now there is no voice over LTE. So the phone has to drop down to the either HSPA or 3G, whichever one is available.
and yeah you might be right about not having the right modem, but I can't find a Rogers modem ANYWHERE. The only one I found was part of a RUU to get back to stock if anyone has even an oldd Rogers HTC One M7 radio, please please please post a TWRP/CWM flashable version of the modem lol

Basically, my N1 when on stock worked perfectly with 3g, yes sometimes it was a bit patchy but it worked. I am using my old blackberry sim (UK), with the internet converted from bberry internet to normal.
Everything was going fine until I put my brother's orange sim in my phone (UK) [he also has a stock nexus, although at the time i was on 5.0.0.3 CM] to see if it was just his phone which had a 3g issue. I never managed to pick up 3g while his sim was in my phone, even though 2 blackberry bolds sitting next to it with orange sims in had perfect 3g.
ANYWAY THATS NOT THE ISSUE.
After replacing my sim in my phone, Ive never since had 3g, ever, even on routes I know the signal is immense.
What I want to know is 1) what would swapping sims have done to the phone, 2) what I can do to possibly reverse it so I can enjoy my 3g again
CM .6
Desire CAM + OC/UV
Cheers
I haven't had this same problem but if I were you I would go to your carrier and get a replacement SIM card. The last time I had a weird issue like this I replaced my SIM and all of a sudden I got pure 3G signals everywhere where I hadn't before. If you get the new SIM and it still doesn't work, try wiping and install a completely different ROM (perferably stock) and see what happens.
Hope this helps!

But before I put my brothers sim in my phone, my sim worked perfectly fine, so I was thinking it was more likely to be phone than my sim?
Anyone have any ideas?
his sim seems to have disabled 3g somehow in your phone, though I've never heard me that before. have you gone into the info menu and seen if your 3g is still enabled? *#*#4636#*#* on your dialpad.
WHOOPs, yeah I had it off [while we were testing etc] and sort of forgot :/ Which setting is it meant to be on, GSM/CDMA auto?
you want it to be on WCDMA Preferred.
I've set it correctly now, and am getting 'H'. I didn't actually realise that it is a type of 3g network, however I am SURE It used to say '3g'. UK O2 if it makes a difference.
well H stands for HSDPA which is what some ROMs show. so have you flashed to a different custom ROM? either way you are getting correct high speed network, so no worries. my nexus only says 3G even when i'm on HSDPA.

Yeah, CM 5.0.6, although I did see a real 3g today *strokes phone* goooood boy
hello every body
i have this problem with my nexus one when i am connected to 3g service (umts, hsdpa,Etc'). i can't make calls or receive any calls, i can't use the internet (data) or get sms and Etc'. but i have full bars reception. when i check the vi in setting to "use only 2g" the phone work great.
i tried everything downgrade/upgrade roms, radios. i tried to go back to my first backup and even do PASSIMG but nothing help i googled it every where but nothing
please some one can help???
without 3g the smartphone is useless
thanks,
shushkis
What network you on? I would at least see how old the sim card is.
Lots of time if you have an older sim card it just can't handle a newer system.
I am connected through Orange IL
and i tried switching sims even with other networks.
and more the phone worked fine at the beginning it just happened i remember i switch to one of CY roms and it happened
Have you tried a full wipe and reinstall the rom?
yes of course i tried customized roms and stock roms but nothing helped
I would check your apn settings...
apn connected to taking or getting calls?
i thought it's just for internet connection
Its just a guess.
If its a problem on multiple ROMs, its likely to be either hardware or settings. Settings are cheaper and easier to test, and that's the only setting I can think of...?
Of course, doing a full wipe (including system), installing a new ROM, and testing before you restore any apps and settings may be another way to test, but since the apn settings are pre-baked into most ROMs, it wouldn't rule our the apn...?
OK I tried to put apn settings and it didnt help
you say hardware?
but when I check in settings "use only 2g" the transceiver works great .
maybe the nexus have two transceiver one for 2g and one for 3g?
seems un-logical
No there are two radios one for 3g and one for 2g because 2g is for calls and 3g for data but when 3G is unavailable the phone will use the 2g for the data.
The Same Trouble
shushkis,
I have the same trouble, my 3G connection works so bad, but if I use only 2g connection, all works good... I have no idea what happend with my N1. I have a N1 for 3G 850 (AT&T) model.
Thanks for advantage.
So maybe the problem is the hardware? if the N1 have two inidvidul transcivers?
I have also the same problem. I've tried many different roms and radios. I use 900/2100 3G. What's strang is that 3G works perfectly at home, but when moving to another tower I get emergency calls only warning. 2g works fine.
I just started having 3G issues at home. With 3G on the phone reboots like once an hour, but on 2G I've gone days without a reboot. My 3G signal is not the best at home, but I don't know why that would make the phone reboot. I'm on T-Mo USA.

The one I'm using is only a couple months old, and it works well in my Desire HD, and my Moto Defy. It's only the N1, but I guess maybe it could be that. I'll look into more.
If it's only a few months old, then it may nor be the SIM that is the problem. I suggested it because a number of T-Mo users were having similar problems after a recent network upgrade, and a new SIM seems to fix the issue for most...
Hello,
Prior to upgrading my (Rogers) Raider to ICS, I would have consistent "4G" service almost everywhere.
I installed the Bell Mobility RUU, added a Rogers APN and I'm in business. However, the service indicator stays on "3G" most of the time, but if I pick the phone up, I get "H" for about 10 seconds, then it reverts back to "3G". I've tried numerous APNs and none seem to make a difference.
Does anyone else have this problem? Better yet, anyone have a solution?
Thanks!
EDIT:
Through more research, I've found that the phone switches to H when using data and switches back to 3G when idle. While part of me likes that idea, does anyone know of a way to force the system to stay at H speed service unless it's not available? i.e. how every other phone I've ever had works
I have noticed this. I never even though about it. I switch back and forth from a Bell and Rogers cards all the time.

Rogers lies. Their rom probably shows 4G even when you are on 3g. Before I flashed the Bell RUU onto my phone (sim unlocked to Bell) it said 4G even though there is no LTE where I am. Once I had the bell rom it showed when I was on 3G and when I was on HSPA+. The phone switches to 3g when you aren't using data in order to save battery life. This is my third android phone and they all have done this. It most likely did with the Rogers rom but they altered it to show 4G anyways

I don't dispute that they lie but I like the speeds I got before I upgraded to ICS. When I had Rogers' "4G" I would get an average download speed of 5 to 6 Mbps. When I was near LTE that increased to about 40Mbps. Now with this 3G/H combo I have, my speed is capped at about 700Kbps download.
So far, no features of ICS are worth the reduction of speed...as it is quite noticeable. I don't even see an increase in battery life to help justify things.
Thanks for your insight! Now I just debate whether I wait it out and flash a Rogers ICS radio when it becomes available or revert back to GB...
svc518: I'm curious... when you go to About Phone, then Network, what does it say under "Mobile network type"?
if you figure out how to flash back to a GB RUU, please share. My Bell Raider is on the Bell ICS RUU and I was not able to flash back to Bell GB RUU (it checked the HBOOT version and said it wasn't right... I assume because I'm on the newer Bell ICS HBOOT). I dunno, maybe I'm missing something simple.

It was constantly changing, depending on whether or not data was being used. I don't remember what exactly they'd change between but one was UMTS.

I managed to get back to Rogers' GB then did the OTA update to ICS. My original problem is fixed: my phone stays on "4G" all the time and I get the download/upload speeds I used to.
Here is an overview of *as much as I can remember* of what ended up being successful for me. It was not simple (for me), took me a few tries, a few bootloops, lots of beer and a plethora of profanity. I won't be able to offer much assistance...so follow in my footsteps and appeal to Google if you get stuck:
Relock Bootloader --> Install Bell ICS Stock RUU (again) --> Unlock Bootloader --> S-OFF --> Install GB HBOOT from unlimited.io (their written directions are wrong for the Vivid...use the picture they have) --> Install Bell GB RUU
Make sure you find some set of instructions on a forum somewhere that seem to jive with those steps. In case of discrepancies, assume I am wrong. All these things change when you throw custom ROMs and Recoveries into the mix and I'm new at this. Google saved my ass, my engineering degree probably helped in the step by step research about what to do next...
Was originally running OMJ Sprint Rom and wanted to try out CM so did a wipe and flashed the CM rom. Everything was working except for the 3G mobile data. Somehow 4G LTE was still connected and running but that doesn't allow me to make voice calls or even text as I found out. Anyhow had to switch back to slow iPhone and now am stuck with this awesome device that can't make phone calls.
I used to successfully flash roms all the time with my EVO 4G but for some reason this has stumped me. Any help is appreciated. Currently running the Bad Boyz rom and cannot boot into a recovery (either CW or TWRP). HELP.
Cheers
As far as data goes did you try to reprovision the phone ##72786# yet? What happens when you switch to cdma in network settings?
Yea I tried that both over the phone with a Sprint rep and then also at the store and no luck. Also tried switching between Auto/LTE + CDMA/ CDMA only and no luck. Also not sure how to tell if it's working since it's not activated...should it still indicate a 3G connection without activation?
I'm not very familiar with this. I've have data (4g lte) connection issues for a while now with my m8.so much so that I'm considering going back to Capts fastboot recovery file just to wipe everything and start over. I'm constantly in a 4G area, but can't get it unless I switch to airplane mode and back. Even then it's short-lived in multiple known 4g areas.
Anyway, tried updating prl. Get an error 1012. But when connected to my airave no problem. Just wondering if that's good to update while hooked up to airave cause I can't in a data area.
Thanks
Don't forget the thanks button!
Ok no one has said anything lol
I've been reading and trying to research my problem. I thought I saw a thread on this same issue but haven't found it yet (hard juggling wife kids work & Android).
Anyway I've spoke with sprint and I just don't trust them.
Been watching my signal on net monitor and everytime I connect to am ehrpd tower my phone tries to connect to lte but apparently didn't want to and jumps down to 3g. I can get lte but has to be a lte tower. Not real knowledgeable yet in this stuff but I'm trying.
Currently on Viper
Firmware 1.54.401.5
Prl 51100

I'm having similar symptoms. I upgraded this past Monday from a Samsung S3 that had good LTE and CDMA voice inside my home (Plano, TX) and my new M8 cannot maintain any stable connection on the voice or data sides. Even at my workplace, I can only get a weak LTE/Spark connection and no voice. I've already worked with several techs and support people at Sprint throughout the week and even exchanged to another new M8 with no better success. I believe it has to do with the Spark (which is actually one of the LTE-Advanced features) and the CSFB (Circuit-Switched Fall Back) that allows us voice on the old CDMA network until VoLTE to rolled out. I am frustrated enough to turn it back in and just go back to using my old S3.

I have no problem with the voice. This is where it seems many are having problems. I'm trying to figure out if this phone is supposed to behave this way with ehrpd towers.

I've mentioned in a different thread that LTE for me is mostly stable, but it does get a little wonky on me. For example, one day at work the LTE will be strong and solid and the following day it drops out intermittently and toggles 3g on.
Probably a sprint issue, not an m8 issue
I had the same prob with my first M8. Could not got 4g until I switched airplane mode off/on. Took it back withing 14 days and got a new one. This one gets 4g/LTE now but have had to switch airplane mode a couple times. Also, my airave does not like this phone. Sometimes it will give it full signal and then other times 4g will be showing and I have no signal and miss calls. I called airave support and the solution they gave me was to switch to cdma when at home.
This is a known issue with the M8. Some people have had success with HTC replacing the defective phone. http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-one-m8/390449-sprint-signal-issues.html
Yep, defective phone
I had terrible connection problems after buying a brand new phone! Ex: No service, Dropped calls every minute, No LTE, 3G was rare. Basically it was not even a phone! I had to ship mine back to HTC. This was after hours at the Sprint store, and many customer service chats with HTC reps. I also had to unroot my phone which was a huge hassle considering I just found out how to root it. After getting a new one, works fine.
Don't let them tell you it is a service problem if you are having the same symptoms. THIS IS A HARDWARE PROBLEM and HTC needs to fix your phone. Hope this helps
