I killed my buddy!!! - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

we all love the summer for some reason .. beaches, night swimming, female tourists looking for entertainment and so on ...
So sometimes we lose our minds in this period! our brain is on vacation too! In this case, the things that I normally avoid, are starting to happen!
yesterday around 1pm, I went to the mall to buy some booze and snacks because I planned to spend the day at the beach, chill out a bit! I already knew what to buy so I did not stay long, I returned home and put on shorts and flip flops, I took my cigarettes and x8 from the table and put them into a single pocket on the shorts!
outside was so hot that I was wet before I even came to the beach .. Fortunately the trip lasts barely 10 minutes, I could hardly wait to jump into the water!
about 2 minutes after I came back pack was unpacked, I took a can of beer and jumped into the water! I was in the water for 15-20 minutes when I noticed that one side of the shorts somehow stretched while the other flies in the water! Darkness had fallen on my eyes!
Xperia has been in my pocket!
I did not believe that this is happening ... I took it out of pocket! as I walked toward the beach I took out the battery and hoped that it will work when it dries! about an hour I had dried on a towel before I pressed the power button but nothing happened, no vibration, no kernel logo! I could not believe I'm the one who killed him, after all these ROMs installed and fleshed Kernels drowned him in water! I'm sorry mate I killed you!
I will always remember my first Android phone and follow the work of nobodyAtall, doixanh, and the rest of the Xperia x8 devs! Stay cool mates!

well done. The topic looks awesome.. just like reading a book XD.
Eh, bad luck or human stupidity? .. :crying: ... Good luck buying a new one (if you will)

nice story!

It was in the water for too long with the battery in.. Also, 1 hour is not enough for it to dry.. More like 48hours if you don't open it.
Anyway, i'm sure lots of components got damaged. You need to be very lucky if it ressurects only by drying it.

no way, Im not gonna buy a new x8, but I think it will be something from Sony for sure! maybe arc s!

Correct me if I am wrong, but are you telling us that without the battery in it could actually stay alive? .. Because it seems logic, but before inserting the battery you should dry it out very well.

decompile your phone to parts, get a bowl, put inside rice and bury them
move it to the sun and leave it there about a week
for the battery I don't know..when you compile it try with different battery
Good luck

Yes, it would probably live if the battery wasn't inserted and if dried properly. And by this i mean you need to open it and clean all the water residues with alcohol or similar and then dry it.

If you're going to buy arc s, don't use official android version (2.3.4) but install custom rom. My friend has arc s and he can't use phone for one day !

Actually once i buy another phone.. i'm gonna shoot my x8.. Literally.. shoot it!!

Samsung Galaxy Mini is a cool alternative for x8, I just got it from a girl! at least until I get the Arc s! I love low-end devices, is more fun to play with them!

Omg, Kako si mogao.
Well, I'm sorry about your x8.
If you are going to buy arc s or something different then Good luck.

Yep i remeber was my first real job working as a trainee mechanic and being fleased by a new phone, got it from a shop called Tandy to which i'm pretty sure no longer exists as outlets "shops" anymore?
They no longer work as was on the analog network and had *# commands to do anything
I'm not sure but also think they were the first ever pay and go phone?

Electric Blankets?

Random Question & not sure who to ask so i figured the great people at XDA might know.
I'm thinking of buying an electric blanket (My bed gets SO cold in the evnings/night) just to warm my bed up before I go to sleep, But i have no experance with them & know nothing about them. I've searched online & all I seam to find is either horror stories or people saying "Don't buy them, there not safe" etc
Well are they safe to use? & If so what should I look for? Is there ratings or certain safty things I need to be aware of?
Thanks in advance guys & girls
I am using one since 3 years and I am still alive. Hope that helps.
EDIT: I actually don't like them alot cause of the wiring inside. I would rather go with a heavy blanket or sth like that. But yeah, when I gets fricking cold, I use them
Glad to hear your still alive! lol
Ahh is the wiring in them uncomfatable then? Would i not be able to put it under my sheet & it be hidden??
Links to said horror stories. Idk, maybe if you get one at the dollar store, the wires might break, but my mom and grandma have been using em for ages. No problems except they might wear out prematurely.
I don't need a sig, but would love a cig.

Any recomendations on brands or is it just avoid the cheep ones?
Water beds have heaters so they don't get too cold, if sleeping on electric heated water is safe I wouldn't think you'd have a problem with just an electric blanket. I would refrain from leaving in on unless your using it, same as any heater.

I think the general rule is that you should use an electirc blanket to warm the bed for half an hour or so before you get into it, but you should always turn it off before getting in. Leaving it on once you are in runs the risk of falling asleep with it turned on; possibly burning yourself or starting a fire

But to answer your question, I would just avoid the cheap ones. Not saying buy an expensive one. But just like anything in life, the cheap ones are cheap for a reason. Testing, materials, ect.

Damnit, you're right, LOL.
Get one from Argos, as has been said use it to wam your bed up before you get in then turn it off and pack it away.
Get a winter duvet too. John Lewis have a £1,000 duvet!
For that money I'd want a buxom woman with it to warm the bed
I use one every night during winter. I don't run my heat until I have to and even then not very high. I don't know the brand.... I do know I got it at walmart after winter when they were marked way down one year. Probably about 4 years old and still kicking.
I used to use one during the winter in my old room. Used it overnight and everything, kept me nice and toasty warm and not dead lol. Kinda wish I knew where it was (still in a box from moving), my room got down to like 55 last night. Totally my fault though cause I left the window open, but still lol.

[Discussion][Q&A][Help] General Motor Discussion.

Hey guys,
I've been having some problems with one of my petrol mowers lately, I've visited a number of different forums, but no-one seems to answer or even get the question you're asking. No matter how simple or well-worded it is.
That's why I decided to make this thread, because we're not all computer-freaks, but some of us are mechanics, others are electromechanics, while most others are software- and app-developers.
I guess I'll start off with my problem, because I really need help..
(This is just copied from a different forum, where I asked for help..)
A few days ago, my lawn mower (Briggs and Stratton Quantum XM-50) almost ran out of oil, to which it then turned off (I hadn't touched it). The next day, my Granddad bought me some synthetic oil, which I then poured generously into the motor - After that, because it's a habit of mine, I pulled down the accelerator and then gently pulled the cord so the oil could smoothly run across the piston.
About an hour later, I tried to start the engine, it just kept miss-firing and didn't want to start. I tried over and over again, for about an hour.
Then, with all my might, I pulled the cord and the carburetor caught fire!
I'm actually quite scared to even get near the cord, as of now, so I just put it in the shed and pulled the spark plug.
I really need to mow the lawn and I can't afford a professional repair or a new lawn mower, that's why I'm asking for help, as how I can get the lawn mower going again and maybe even how I could get a little more performance out of the motor.

Happy discussing and please help Lol.
Have a wonderful day! (No, I'm not on Drugs. I'm hungry...)
Did you pour it in the oil reservoir or the motor?

I know the briggs and stratton engines (used to work on them lots) it sounds like your carburettor is sticking or the float has a small hole in it, you need to strip it and clean the jets out and check the float . It's quite a simple job (about 20 mins)

My N4 took a dive...

...in the washing machine, for the full cycle!
But it survived!!
I discovered it in the washing machine the other night while looking to charge it. So I took it out of the case and shoved it in a box of Minute Rice we had in the cupboard and let it sit there overnight. The battery was dead when I got home from work earlier that day so I wasn't worried too badly. Anyway, I took it to work and disassembled it (thanks iFixit), washed all the parts in 91% isopropyl alcohol, and put everything in a bag with rice for a few hours. I'm a mechanic and have a lot of side projects so this wasn't out of the ordinary for the other guys.
I started assembling the phone, cleaning the rice dust off as I went. I plugged it in before I put the back cover on just to see if it would charge; lo and behold the screen flashed on with the animated battery icon! It powered on just fine, so on went the back cover. Everything else checked out as it charged. The only issue is the screen discolored around the edges... Oh well. After the whole ordeal, I'm just happy it works.
TL;DR- N4 went through wash cycle. disassembled and cleaned, works fine, but screen discolored.
nice, my nexus 4 took a dive too once but don't worry, the ground was okay! :good:
The discoloration should go away when it drys more I believe.
I dunno 'bout that... (Pic taken with spare phone then BT'd over to N4)

is that water on the sides? if so, let it dry for couple days.
It's better for the long run if you didn't use it yet and fully disassemble the phone and let all the parts dry out first.
you can find lots of tuts in youtube on how to fix a phone when it died due to deep dive (something like putting it in sand i totally forgot - just stumbled upon those vids back then)
btw, it really looks cool but its risky when charging! just a precaution mate!
Also, would have been cool if you called your phone while it was spinning! and got it in video! (good for the n4 community! haha)

Break Phone In Anger Because Of ROM

One day, I was so angry with my defy+ with wiui (but same with cm7) that I threw it on the floor.
The gorilla glass was strong enough but the lcd panel broke inside...
I repair it, put stock rom on it and it is working nice !
And yes, it's bad, those things costs money... Now I prefer to take a deep breath before becoming mad.
These kind of threads are useless. Why the hell u would throw a expensive phone because of a crap rom. My advice for those idiots(no offense) is to see the reviews and the thread before installing the rom.

Yep!
outchea bra!
I once had to calibrated the rom on my Gnex with asphalt ,REMEMBER if your try this the key is to drop it from a height of 4ft any higher or lower will result incorrect calibration and will brick your device. also it is recommended clean the system partition prior to the asphalt calib., I suggest using warm water not hot and normal dish detergent, use your favorite brand is fine.:silly::highfive:
