I dropped my phone on some pretty hard stuff, and it has a big crack now, on the right side of the screen. Everything seems to be working fine, and the touch screen in itself has no issues (it works even on the cracked part of the glass), but the crack is pretty big, and it runs right from top to the bottom of the screen. Any idea how/where I can get it replaced, and how much it might cost?
I though gorilla glass was a lot more tougher :crying:
Thanks!
If you are game enough to do it yourself

There are a few screens on ebay for cheap
Can you get it done cheap in a market or something? You can here
Oh, well. Seems like fun!
Did not find anything for the IncS on EBay's Indian site, but I guess I can get it shipped from the States - I found several on that.
But before I try this, I would definitely want to know how much the HTC repair center might charge me for this The LCD is fine, and only the glass (or digitizer - I got that from Mark's youtube link) has to be replaced. There are several on eBay for 35 USD, which is kinda OK, but I do not want to end up with a messed up non-working phone at the end of it
There may be a few nerves taking apart a $400 phone haha
And from my research, the glass and the digitaliser are attached
You could always enquire at HTC by calling them or emailing
That would obviously be the safest way
Sent from my Incredible S using XDA
Yeah, I mailed them, and they asked me to contact their Customer Care over phone, and the person at the CC had no idea what a digitizer is, and he asked me to get in touch with the repair center here, which is closed on Sundays
Will update here tomorrow after a visit to the repair center.

Looking for instructions or someone who has experienced taking an XDA apart in order to replace the touch-screen.
replacement screen
replacing the screen is a fairly easy job. You just remove the back screws, (you might need a small hex shaped screw driver) and prize appart. There are clips around the inside of the outer casing holding them together, then there are 2 small black screws on the main PCB. removing this will expose the back of the screen. Once you have done that you remove the four screws at the top and bottom of the screen, and its away. You will need to remove 3 ribbon cables that attach the screen to the main PCB, but other than that, job done.
Problem i have is i don't know where to get a replacement screen from, cos i smashed mine. If you find out, let me know.

Many different PDA screens, but I did not find XDA screens on it...
OH YES THEY DO!! trust me, ask them via email. Don't know why its not listed though I never did ask...
Price
And what did you had to pay for the xda screen?
Sceen
I am about to order one, I just recieved an e-mail from them.
They are 55 EUR posted to you.
I paid £40.inc vat & p&p.
It will ofcourse be cheaper to send within the UK, than to Norway...
Yeah! well we gotta have some benefits to livin' on an Island!!!
Hey, Montanna.
Was it as easy to put together as it was to take apart.
My XDA is in pieceses now, and I'm a litle worried
Everything will be fine, I know. But you get attached to the little guy
If I ever got to name a pda I'd call it Gizmo. U know, from Gremlins.
That would be a great theme btw...
Waddid ya attack the baby for?? hope yer modifying it, as for me it was easy for me to change the touchscreen but I am a tech-head anyway and luv my xda so any problems I tend ta sort immediately
another question
Is it the whole screen you ordered, or the touch screen or the lcd screen?
site seems bit tacky? are the legit? :?
Yes, they are legit...
Yes they are legit. They delivered very fast, and just what they promised.
But I ****ed up...
Stefan, that is something I didn't think of before I placed the order.
I needed the LCD, but I thought I only had to replace the screen. I thought “the screen” was one unit.
I didn’t read the mails I got from http://pdascreens.co.uk properly. They clearly said that they sell touch panels and nothing else.
Now I have 2 working touch panels and a broken LCD screen.
I bought my XDA on EBay, that is why I had to repair the thing myself. I am now thinking about selling it as “with broken screen” if anyone is interested…
I’ll never purchase anything this expensive on EBay again. Had I bought it from a store would this be the store’s problem, not mine.
that sucks
Damn, that sucks.
My lcd brooke when I fell and fell on my xda
I was very glad to read that they sold screens for 55 euro, to bad.
I also read that someone sent his xda to o2 for repair, and he had to pay 70 english pounds for a new screen and a new outer case.
Now I have sent mine for repair and got a letter from o2,
the costs wil be 289 euro. Woooooooooooow,
that was not what I was thinking about.
But I need the little thing and buing a new one is 599 euro so thats more than twice the repairing price.
I don't know what you paid for yours, but mayby O2 wants to repair yours to.
Stefan
Before you give up try contacting PDA screens international on www.palmscreens.com, and ask them VIA EMAIL if they know where you can get a 'LCM' for the XDA, they might be able to help you with advice on how to get your hands on the actual screens (LCM's) but you will have to be very specific as to whether is the its the complete screen or the touchscreen thats broken!!! in my case it was the touchscreen DON'T KNOW IF THEY REALLY CAN HELP BUT ITS A START AND IF THEY DON'T, WITH ENOUGH PEOPLE CONTACTING THEM ABOUT THE SAME THING......YA NEVER KNOW!!!!! I'm a big believer in people power so even if you've heard they don't, don't just stop there
Hello. I'm new here. But i do have some tips about replacing the Wallaby screen. www.Ipaqrepair.com is now repairing xda screens and digitizers in the US. Mine is being repaired at this moment. The only reason I don't have a warranty is i have a pre-production SX56 release. Anywhoo I thought some people in the US would like to know.
E-MAN
P.S. Ipaqrepair is changing it's name to PDAsmart.com at the end of the month and thats where they'll list it.
Removing the touch screen from the rest of the screen
I just succeeded in transplanting a touch screen from one xda to another. I almost gave up because it seemed the touch screen is glued to the rest of the screen. Now that does seem to be true but the glue isn't that strong ) Here's how I did it:
- Remove the screen module from the device
- On the top there's a yellow sticker, remove it
- Get a knife between any of the screen holders (where the four screws go) and pry the two pieces apart. You'll notice some strange sounds, this is just the glue letting go.
- You may have to use a knife to push the latches on three sides (all exept the side where the cables are) down.
- Only the bottom plate comes off and not the touch screen glass as I expected.
Good luck!
I'll have my digital camera back in a couple of weeks, if anyone is interested I can make some pictures of the process.
Hi
PDASmart sell both the screens and the touchpads

Hi,
I've gone and stupidly sat on my phone and now the LCD screen has a dark patch in the middle of it..
I've tried gently rubbing which reduces the patch temporarily and also heating up with a hairdryer completely removes the patch, but also temporarily...
I think final solution is to tear down and replace the screen, does anyone have any suggestions on where I can purchase a replacement screen? Or where I can obtain one at all?
Thanks a lot

I think you should send it to HTC for repair... might cost more than trying to repair it yourself, but trying to repair it yourself could lead to disaster if you don't know what you're doing. Much better to have a professional repair it.
I have exactly the same problem :-O
Have been looking around here and i believe this is the same problem as we have, He fixed it with a sucktion cup so may as well try that
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462102&page=13&=#122
Thanks for the link mate. I will try the suction cup idea also and see if it works.
I have called HTC to find out about repair, they said (I'm in the UK), that they will send UPS to come collect and then they will give me a quote, it can take about 5 days to repair if I agree with the quote and £20 to send back to me... But they couldn't give me a better idea on price, although he said because the phone is new it would likely cost "a bit"...
I'll look for a couple more days for alternatives to fixing then it could be heading off to HTC
well the suction cup didn't work for me, tried to use a hoover as well .... all starting to sound rather kinky.
Will be sending off to HTC instead now. Thanks a lot anyway.
Get insurance and get a new one. Or get it fixed.
Same problem. Looks like nobody is selling replacemet parts for leo yet I've manage to find digitizer, but not complete with lcd screen. Is the phone too new maybe? Hopefully someone will start selling parts soon..
there are screens for sale , i think it's about 50 usd or thereabouts. You might want o search around i didn't save the link.
Today I found one by accident
http://4u-kidi.com/info.php?itno=5460
Nope, that's still only the digitizer/ touch screen not the actual LCD screen which displays the picture
i guess you mean the tft lcd screen.

I did the same thing Xmas day and I ended up with a patch in the middle just like the photo I've seen in the thread linked earlier in this thread
after the initial shock thinking I'd broke it already, on closer inspection it looked as if I'd squeezed the liquid out of it so I thought why not squeeze it back?
all I did was press from the outside of the screen using 2 fingers either side of the spot and then quite firmly squeeze towards the spot. I did this in a circular motion around the spot thus forcing the liquid back into the centre. Eventually it was OK after a few directed squeezes and it had completely vanished so imagine my relief
probably a bit late now, gently rubbing as the original poster didn't work for me as that's what I did initially. Eventually I was brave and used some force but not enough to create more spots, just enough to force the spots away again and fixed it completely

Sounds like its going to be sent off to HTC Taiwan then... if the postage is £20
Edited:
I'm getting the phone repaired through Clean Planet Repair (iphonerepair.com).
I had some problems with them the first time I sent it in, but the manager(?) contacted me and we came to a pretty reasonable solution.
That repairs in progress, so, if your HD7 is cracked there's a place that will have done at least *one* HD7 repair there...

Anyone know where to get this done?
I bought a cracked HD7 and can't find anyone who actually knows how to fix it.
Note:
I bought the phone because "Clean Planet Repair" at iphonerepair.com advertised a $99.99 repair and that seemed like a good deal. I mailed the phone there and they called me to say there was a 50-50 chance they'd break the LCD and I'd have to pay an extra $100 to have that fixed (part + labor) as well. They seemed annoyed that I had a problem with this.
On the site you read these great testimonials like "Trust this place, they stand by their promise." Quite a business model. I would not recommend them.

$100 to fix a screen (replace it) is a good deal, please get it done, as HTC will charge u more for sure..
I'm sure its the same deal as the hd2, you can replace just the lcd, but usually will damage the digitizer in the process so it's easier to replace both pieces together.
Good Luck
Post removed; update in first post.
ugh. This is what I'm most worried about happening to mine. I wish it was made of gorilla glass. Maybe I should have gotten the protection plan after all..
How do you guys crack your screen so fast? i had the HD2 since March and never even got a scratch, never used a case just put it in my pocket always... even droped it twice..
My hd7 is still flawless with no case..
I've only had this for phone for about a week and I already see a small fragment of dust underneath the screen. It's located in the upper right corner of the screen, so it couldn't have gotten in through the 3.5mm jack, I think.
Anyone else having this problem?
Hmmm... Having dust on the bottom part of the screen, right in the middle, I suspect an issue with stick during manufacturing, so screen is not correctly fixed and dust can pass through holes :-(
If we are not so many to have dust I can imagine it's not so frequent so I'm going to write down to HTC to expose these facts and claim for another device...

Hey...even i got dust under the screen in the middle left...its annoying on white backgrounds :S

I also get a dust under screen, it in the buttom, I really don't know how did it come in there.
Well apparantly I'm not the only one, it seems to be a common issue then.

I hope your results are better then mine.
I asked for a new device, not from HTC but from the retailer where i bought it.
He told me that giving new devices does not fall under the 'repair' warranty. He adviced me to bring the phone in and they would send it to a HTC repair center.
I did send a mail to HTC though, but they haven't replied yet.
:edit: They replied to me this morning, giving me two possible solutions depending on the retailer himself.
Either I could get a new model from the retailer (which in this case is impossible), or the cellphone could be repaired at the HTC repair center. They also told me that if it's option two, I might as well let them pick up my cellphone seeing as the retailer would just send it to them anyhow.
I accepted the offer and they're picking it up this friday.
Is dust under the screen an HTC problem? I don't recall hearing issues about dust under the screen with Samsung or Motorola phones.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App
They do seem to have a bad reputation considering that issue.
Let's just hope they bring my cellphone back scratch-free and completely sealed.
same problem here.
i changed the phone two times. the third one also has dust under the display. HTC support told me to send this to the retail center to repair it. Needs 10-14 days...
The media store offered me to change to a desire s. To small dislay, the third post in a german forum: dust under the display... f....
Mine had the same problem. I called HTC Taiwan, and they picked up my phone next morning. After 48hr, the phone was back nice and shiny in an "I'm Back" cute little box with a free cleaning cloth. Very satisfied with the service. I suggest call htc repair. Shipping is free and quick.
I'm guessing it's a common problem with the first batch of these smartphones.
I think i'll have my phone back by friday, so it'll take little over a week.
Such waiting time is quite common here, it's actually not that bad compared to other repair centers.
Hi, i have the same problem and i have that phone from 10 days. When i bought it it was clean and no dust inside. Please tell me if i send it to retail center to repair is it a good choice or soon will be the same. I have HD2 before and i didn't have this problem.
Hi guys,
On my One dual sim (802W) the digitizer glass is broken, and now I would like to repair it. actually, i found out this is more complicated than i was expecting.
First of all, to my big disappointment, HTC assistance told me that this phone is not covered by international warranty or service, so they are not going to fix it, not even paying. As a result, this is my 11th HTC phone and will be the last one, but still I would like to fix it before going for a more serious brand.
i have therefore looked online for spares and instruction to do the job myself, and I found out that due to phone construction, this operation is pretty complicated, so I am now wondering how to do with this phone, which, apart from cracked glass, is working perfectly.
Did somebody of you experience the same situation? Any suggestion from your side will be more than welcome!
Thanks,
GG
You need to be very skilled to dig into this phone. Most who opens this thing up ends up with an awful thing when reassembled.
Most if not all exterior is glued together on this phone. It requires a heatgun and loads of patience and skill to get a successful fix. If you have none of these skills, don't go there.
I recently took off lower speaker grille and just that little piece was a nightmare and didn't end so good.

I will try asking to repair shops then... Let's see what happens
