So with all these loose screens - that are fixable with a little re-manufacture... when is the google nexus refurb store going to open.
( Apple has one ).
Id expect that the ones that haven't been shipped with the issue will be fixed then sold as new. Those sent back will most likely just be repaired.

Hello everyone,
I've been looking around for a tablet for a few weeks and the Nexus 7 is on the list of possibles.
I was just wondering if it would be a good idea to hang on for a refurbished Nexus 7. Are there more 8gb versions going back than 16gb's? Reading all the feedback Google must be awash with returns and I was wondering how they intend to move these products on. (Apple sell refurbished ipads on their website)
what do you reckon? Worth waiting for a refurb?

If they do openly sell them, I say go for it. I only experienced the screen lift, and is probably an easy fix.
As for people with screen dead spots/washed out color. I can only imagine the only way they fix it is with a new display, so that would be another go for it. That's if they sell as refurbed.
Bit seeing this device has such a small profit margin, I doubt they will sell refurbed devices

i would buy a refurbished one. im currently in the process of returning mine, screen lift and light bleed, and i would definitely buy a refurbished unit. all refurbished items i have bought before (phones, laptops, tablets, ipods) have work just fine like new............ and their always cheaper
I was just thinking of how much these will sell for in a year or two. They're cheap new.... so ~$100 resell? Seems crazy.
Refurbs probably won't be THAT much cheaper, maybe $150. I'd almost rather just buy new. I don't think your really going to save hundreds like you could with a 10" tablet of yesteryore.

Refurbished units will have gone through more QC than new units. I would go for it. I bought my kindle fire refurbished and it was perfect.

The majority of times, refurbs aren't actually refurbs, but new units marked down and relabeled. It's one way to move excess inventory w/o impacting the SRP. That KF you got is most likely new.
BTW, you can definitively tell whether a CE is "new" or refurb by cracking it open. Those that have been opened (refurbed) will always leave tell-tale traces.
N7 is still supply-constrained for the near future, so chance for an "unofficial" markdown is slim. One way that could change is if upcoming competition from Amazon and Apple is fiercer than expected.
I'd wait. I've had good luck with refurb devices in the past. Amazon sold the Kindle Fire for $140 refurbed a few months after release.

That wouldn't make sense from a business perspective. It's better to replace the screen (or parts) and sell refurbed for a $60 loss over just trashing the unit for a $170 loss. Not everything has to turn a profit, just minimize the loss.
I would almost guarantee there's a refurbed unit. But whether it's available in the US is another thing.
I see a long time ahead before refurbs hit the market. Probably a year. In the meantime they will take the parts and use them when someone sends in for warranty repair. Just because thee is screen separation does not mean you get a new unit. It might right now due to their inventory. But give it a month and you will start seeing refurbs sent out for warranty repairs.

Aaaahhh... maybe they're selling to other countries as new...
A little shady, but possible where their laws wouldn't prohibit such an action
If you want it, why torture yourself and wait for a used unit only to save a few bucks?
You could check the XDA Market for guys selling theirs for a few bucks less or do yourself a favor and Buy it now and buy it new, with a warranty at a brick and mortar store in case you need to exchange it for another in the event there is some defect (screen lift).

refurbished ones should have more qc, new ones are like beta coz of the numerous issues, i say go for it if u can find it, saving a few bucks is another plus

What is that tell-tale traces left on opened refurbs you are talking about? And what does "CE" mean?
Just curious...
Hey guys I'm looking to sell my old nexus 7 and pick up the new one, but I'm not sure if I should wait to get it directly from Google or just pick it up at a regular store now.
I remember google being awesome about warranty/defect issues with my first nexus 7, free shipping back and forth, sending a new device first, etc. But I'm not too familiar with Best Buy's warranty/return policies. Specifically if they accept returns for little things like a stuck pixel and such. Anyone know if it would be an issue getting it from Best Buy(or any other store for that matter)?
I see no reason why Google would treat the new one any differently.
If you buy from the PlayStore, all is as you said.
If not, after the initial store return policy and assuming you don't purchase BB's extended warranty, you'll have the mostly hit and miss experience of dealing with ASUS.
FWIW, I'd consider buying from Walmart.
Price is the same, but, for $28 with purchase, you can get a 2 year drop and spill warranty that's eerily similar to Square Trade's which is $60 or BB's which is more.
You also get a 14 or 15 day no questions asked return policy.
Just my 2ยข
Best buy is like 50 dollars i think is best uget 2 years warranty
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
How is that better than $28 for 2 years?
Also, as an aside, BB isn't doing too well right now. Shutting down stores. Will they be around to honor the $59 warranty in a year or do? IDK.
I have preorderd with Google. I like knowing I have a year to replace if needed. They have always been quick and good with that.

For those who went through the RMA and replacement process with Google Play store, is the replacement you are getting brand new or refurbished devices? Google is telling me they are refurbished and if I want a new one, I have to return the defective device and order it again when it is available in the store. Sounds horrible to me especially when a new 64G white device is so hard to get. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks
Anyone?
Ask them to do a advanced RMA that way you can see the condition of the device before you send your current one back.
First time poster here.
I just got a Nexus 6 and it likes to say that I have no bars of reception when I actually do. Anyway, I contacted Motorola and they are doing a warranty replacement. Does anyone have experience with how their "like new" phones are. I don't want a dinged up refurb.
Thanks!
I had a refurbished Nexus 5 from Google which was absolutely pristine, indistinguishable from brand new. I also got a replacement Nexus 6 from Google after 5 months when the back started to peel - a new phone, I guess, since it was still in production, and naturally also perfect.
Since Motorola actually make the thing I would expect the replacement, even if refurbished, to be perfect.
My experience was better than expected. I had issues with the speakers on my N6 and they sent me a new phone in sealed original box with turbo charger and cable.

Hi Guys
I am about to do a warranty exchange today for my galaxy s8 plus, i had a issue where i was not able to charge the phone because it kept saying moisture detected when there was no moisture in the port (i cleaned out the charging port and usb c cable as well). I have also been having a few issues with the phone freezing here and there so i am going to do a warranty exchange.
Before i do though, does anyone know if the warranty phones that T-Mobile is sending are new or refurbished? My phones not THAT wanky where i would want to take a risk with a refurbished phone.
I just want to know if any of you guys have done the warranty exchange, and if yes when? and did you receive a new or refurbished device.
Thank You!
**Update: got the warranty phone yesterday, definitely refurbished. Whats worse is that the phone has 2 scuffs on the top left and bottom left and a nick on the top right. Its not horribly noticeable but the phone i turned in was in perfect condition and why do i get a dropped abused phone?
Going to haggle T-Mobile about it and see what they will do, most likely ship me out another refurbished device...

Mine is s8. And bought it brand new when bogo offers. Also exchanged it for warranty exchanged because of a red dead pixel. Went to T-Mobile store yesterday m Monday and they told me warranty exchanged always replaced with a refurbished units. Wtf! And they said hopefully i.might get brand new cause the phones is only just months old. But she said its not guaranteed though until T-Mobile will shipped the phone. Will update when i get it. Hopefully by end of the week.

When I did mine I got a new phone. I did it through T-Mobile about 2 weeks after I got the phone.
Most cases they send you a refurbished phone. It usually comes with out accessories and no original packaging.
I think the only problem with refurb units it the aesthetics, I wouldnt want an $800 device to LOOK like **** however, I am ALL PRO repair and fully believe in hardware repair, as long as it is done by a competent person..... The internals / logic board circuits are all the same in refurb and in new, it would be nice if refurb units get to have improvements but highly unlikely due to schematics..... anywho, I whouldnt worry too much about receiving a refurbished unit as long as the exterior looks to your standards.... inspect it before walking out of the tmobile store, I dont know if youre able to do a store pickup, if not then it would be a bit more difficult to make your case with them......
just my 2 cents
When i send my mobile in for repair and they send me a scuffed used looking phone back, i would raise all hell on them.

Unfortunately you are hearing the truth. T-Mobile offers a timely exchanged device (Next Day if you have insurance, 3-5 without) at the cost of it being refurbished. Usually if an instance occurs within the first month of device launch you'll get a new one but past that there's no guarantee.
You can check to see once you arrive at the store. If the box inside the packaging is a slim T-Mobile box, then it's refurbished. If it's in the official box, it's brand new. If it's refurbished, you can refuse the order and it will be shipped back to T-Mobile at no cost to you.
You can go through Samsung. They cannot guarantee they will not use refurbished parts or device, but there is a chance unlike with T-Mobile. I went through them direct for a dead pixel on my S7E. Was without my phone for 19 days, but I got my same model back.
Best of luck.

Update:
Got my s8 exchanged this morning. Phone comes with T-Mobile packaging. And he said it is a refurbished unit. When i checked the unit it looks brand new. All stickers are still with the phone except from the front screens. No dings, no scratches or anything. And as soon as i turn it on. I already got firmware updates 3 times until May patched. So happy with my exchanged unit.

It's my understanding that they (TMO) will attempt 3 refurb warranty exchanges before giving you a brand new device. I would be super picky, and return as many as you can that aren't 100% perfect.
I had the s7 edge that had the bottom right edge with completely dead pixels and it took 2 exchanges before I settled on a refurb - which just came back to haunt me Friday as I dropped my phone and it messed up the digitizer. No visible damage, and I had the famous unicorn beetle pro + TGSP combo and never had a bad drop until Friday. Had that refurb for 11 months and couldn't do anything with it. So here I am with the s8 now (the + was too dang big lol).
If I had to guess based on the s7 unit I got, it had a screen replaced and was done with poor quality parts. My wife drops her s7 edge on concrete what seems like every day and has had no issues.
tl;dr: keep sending them back until they agree to send you a new unit.
