You'd have to find a way to modify the ESN on the device, which isn't exactly legal.
Also, there's nothing that can be done with the device as-is, because Verizon's service always knows what ESN's correspond to which device.
and if I use it with Verizon and I use it with another company, then if you could change the esn.
I'll do it for another Provider with the post of Bionic TBH T-mobile

I live in Canada so I don't think it is illegal to change my esn. But for the purposes here lets say I just wanted to repair my esn. Can someone point me in the right direction. Much appreciated.
Basically I would like to know if this is possible:

Thanks for your time.
Edit: Sorry for bringing this thread back to life. I was searching and it popped up and posted an answer without looking at the date. It would have been better to leave it burried. Sorry. :End Edit
You may want to not use the term change in the same sentence as esn or meid. Many forums have policies against discussions of that nature. Repairing an esn or meid is gray but is more accepted.
I have not heard of someone having success with those such repairs on a Moto Droid. Eris, Evo, Incredible, hero and Samsung moment yes. I myself have repaired a defective meid on an Incredible.
Being able to do a Moto Droid would be great because their used price is dropping like a rock in my area. Not to mention it puts the community on step closer to doing an X.
if you need to know how to repair meid/esn pm me.
If you want to change ESN or MEID just type in google "change ESN"
Just google. droid meid correction. It should take you to howard forums or HoFo as they call it. I've ,I think, confirmed that method as not working on droid 2 global, but, it may work for your phone. And as you can see, I have posted my results there! This would be probably the only solution we have to test out, and seeing all the revs here, I could only hope for success. Cross the fingers. Plus if you haven't heard, motorola is being somewhat purchased by GOOGLE, which made the linux based Android OS, supercharge the OS. Just to develops the OS further and have a guaranteed platform on which to test! This will probably mean Motorola has to unlock bootloaders, which in turn, would probably let us get deeper into the inner workings of the new, up and coming Motorola devices (not just phones)! Since android is open source. Which also means that other manufacturers like samsung would be easier to hack too! But that's just my theory, don't hold me to anything I've said so far.
Got the original post from that mysterious chinese web site. -> Yeah, this is what the op failed to mention -> http://translate.googleusercontent....1.html&usg=ALkJrhh8C4cuwQm5n6eMlvBTJKHTlMQbGw <- translated and everything! Now let's combine international forces and make this phone our *****! [email protected] mini, I had you a whole writeup peeped but wife at my motel room made me reconnect in the middle of my 3000 words plus reply then took me to a internet error. Disregard that other info.... im posting on two sites and this one seems to be going nowhere.

My account with boost mobile has been closed due to a returned payment, however I was told that I would not be able to use this phone anymore, I would have to buy another one. How can I repair or rewrite the MEID number without a computer and without buying a new phone all together?
Hi, can someone explain to me how Sprint knows what phone I am using? Is it with a hardware identification number? Is there a way to spoof this number, so that Sprint will think I'm using a phone that's not a smartphone?
PLEASE - can anyone provide me with some information? I think this is doable - I just don't know much about it. Thanks

basically when you activate your phone you give them a serial # this is hard coded into every sprint phone, their probably might be a way to do it but i can tell you for sure its highly illegal to do what your trying to do
Thanks for the info - I'm just curious in general as to how Sprint knows what phone we use. I've been looking at the setprop values on my phone, thinking that one of those properties are the ones set by Sprint to determine what phone I'm using. What do you guys think?

very very true, extremely illegal, and they WILL report you if they find out.
that being said, it CAN be done. no i will not tell you how. if you want to go to jail search the web for esn changing. i am not going to offer any advice on finding it. BUT it is out there, it has been done.

I did some reading on ESN changing, and it doesn't seem like something I want to do - it doesn't even seem to do what I want to do.
Changing my ESN to Bob's ESN (for example), would make my calls/texts be deducted from his plan rather than mine - correct?
All I want to do is report my phone as being a dumb phone rather than a smartphone to Sprint - is ESN changing the only way to do this?

Hi guys, I don't live in the US and I'm considering getting a D3 with a bad esn and unlocking it for use on my GSM carrier.
From what I've seen this should work in theory but I'm also a bit concerned about what would cause a bad ESN. Any questions or checks I can do to figure out if the phone is legit? Anyone had a good/bad experience unlocking a D3 with a bad esn?

Bad ESN phones are generally stolen or lost.
I doubt that the OP cares, he probably just wants to save a bit of money.

Most of the comes from users unable to pay the monthly bill, some of them could be also stolen or lost.

Actually, I do care. That's why I asked, thanks for answering.
quick question- is it possible if I root my old OG Droid that my friend who lost her EVO could then call sprint and do an ESN change and use that on Sprints network? Or is there some unlock code I need from Verizon to unlock the phone so Sprint could activate it? Or is this even possible lol?
Thanks

Possible? Yes, it is technically possible. Finding a Sprint CSR to do this for you (and likely lose their job as a result) is another thing though . My best advice would be to insist that it is a Sprint branded device, even though I'm sure they'll tell you the ESN lookup brings back a Moto Droid. I will say that it is extremely unlikely you will get this cleared for use on Sprint.
Best thing to do is give it a shot. The worst they can tell you is no. And if for some reason they do say yes, you'll need to obtain the manual programming information from Sprint. Dialing ##7764726 under the phone app and inputting password 000000 should bring you to the appropriate menus to input that information.
Providing you actually found a "good CSR" who lets you do this, be extremely patient and courteous to them and don't dare pushing them to waive the activation fee...
cool thank you!
Sup guys,
I´m in the lookout for an HTC One and I found one with a bad ESN. Now, the curious part is that I don´t plan on using it on Sprint. I´ve read that bad ESN are only carrier related and if I were to use the phone on at&t, besides the Sim Unlock I´d need to do, Will it work even with a bad ESN?

It wouldn't work on AT&T regardless of ESN. The radios are different. Sprint phones can only be used on Sprint or other Sprint-using carriers (like Ting). Verizon on Verizon, and even AT&T/T-mobile aren't always fully compatible with eachother (sometimes lose 4G/LTE).
I see, I guess I should forget about Sprint´s One

Well I'm sure there's a way to flash it to say boost or something like that that's if you know how to or someone that can. Heck some small carrier stores even offer flashing services haha

You mean I can unlock it by flashing some custom rom? I´ve done that with many devices previously, but i never knew you could unlock it by flashing a custom rom, am I wrong?

As of right now it is not possible to SIM unlock the Sprint ONE. You can unlock the bootloader, flash to other carriers, and even flash a different PRL and force Roam on Verizon, but you cannot unlock the SIM for GSM use.
Please Update
As of now the GSM of Sprint HTC One can be unlocked using the technique from other threads.... Please tell me if i can now buy a BAD ESN Phone from ebay..... Get the GSM Unlocked using those techniques and use it in India... The radios or freq wont be a problem as India is yet to get a 4G network(Oh God we are so behind).
Need advise before purchasing
It can be unlocked for use on other carriers pretty easily. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45243199. Bad ESN applies only to US carriers

Hey just a FYI the HTC One cannot go on ting
From ting website:
Our program is as follows: Bring your used, inactive Sprint® device to Ting, and activate it with a Ting service plan*.
Newer smartphones like the S4 and the HTC One cannot be brought over. Likewise, BlackBerry and Push-to-Talk (PTT) devices cannot make the move.

You wont have any problems if you put it on something other than sprint (Providing it has a bad ESN on sprint), However the sim unlock guide provided here does not work with the new rom base.
Keep in mind though that sprint will randomly go through and (Scrub) A.K.A clear the bad esn's out of there system, So even though you purchased with a bad esn it could have a clean one after all.
If you have verizon in that area you could always check about flashing the HTC One to PagePlus. Full Guide Here
Now that i broke my HTC OX i will go on ebay and buy HTC O with bad esn
