I dont know if any other guy here went through this hysterical problem but yeah would like to inform those who flash more often without surmounting about thinking before doing it..
Also dev's i think this problem should be rectified immediately! !!
Here's what happened with (not so)lucky me
I flashed cm9 beta 2 directly over cm7 by tj_style..(edit wiped out data and dalvik cache too) and then after installation found out that my IMEI no. was null(0000000000000000)
Tried every possible legit method to restore my IMEI back but to no avail.
Googled everything but sooner got frustated
In the end i ended up in the samsung customer care center, acting all dumb like i had no clue about my phone and then there was my phone without imei.
I told them(care center ppl) that "last time i sent a text to a friend.
The next day i checked my cellphone , there was no signal coverage."
You know pretending like i had no clue about what the hell was happening and made out stories.
The funny part was that the center people believed everything.
Finally they took in my phone and gave it back after 2 and half weeks(after constant inquiring about my cell xD) & finally i had my original IMEI restored (salvage)
.
That was about my problem.
Still can't figure it out how my IMEI got washedoff adter flashing cm9 beta 2..
(Sigh).... .. but now I'm on the safe side. ^^
So i think its serious matter about wiping IMEI.. and it should be considred under attention.
Comeon guys i think this post needs atleast more discussion than this xD
Lol show some decency! !
lol

what is IMEI on a phone ?
IMEI(INTERNATIONAL MOBILE EQUIPMENT IDENTITY) no. is a number, usually unique, to identify GSM, WCDMA, and iDEN mobile phones, as well as some satellite phones. It is usually found printed inside the battery compartment of the phone. It can also be displayed on the screen of the phone by entering *#06# into the keypad on most phones.
The IMEI number is used by the GSM network to identify valid devices and therefore can be used for stopping a stolen phone from accessing the network in that country. For example, if a mobile phone is stolen, the owner can call his or her network provider and instruct them to "blacklist" the phone using its IMEI number. This renders the phone useless on that network and sometimes other networks too, whether or not the phone's SIM is changed.

I've read about the same issue with other devices when flashing roms. In some forums, they recommend to make a backup of the efs carpet from your phone before flashing roms.

this seems to be a problem woth the efs folder.... you have to go to the service center
it happened to me once, when I moved from froyo to gingerbread. I talked with a guy in store in Chile and with a box that he connected to my galaxy mini, he restored my IMEI. He did not even ask for an explanation just the money (which was like USD $ 1)
Lucky me we have those guys XD

Hello all,
My SGS has the weirdest WiFi problem. It connects. It browses. It works fine.
BUT, it does not got to certain speeds or certain distances from the router.
The available internet speed for phones in my university is 10mbit/s, but when i try speedtest, it gives me 790kbit/s.
And the max distance, in every single router I've tried, it's not as far as other phones can get. Even a Nokia E71 can get 10 more meters away from the router than I can.
Example: I can be sitting with my friend, who has an HTC. He is downloading with 5Mb/s and sitting further away from the router outside. While I am downloading at 60Kb/s.
I've tried many ROMs (currently on CM9), and none of them worked.
Thanks, and sorry for the long post.
Speedtest shows 790kbit/s or 790kBit/s ??? As you know 1kb ~ 8kB
If there is indeed something wrong, I would try different modem, not different ROM.

My bad. KBit/s. In either case, my phone is many MBit/s behind. Would a different modem work on CM9?

And what is your current modem?
By the way, ~6,5mb/s from shared wifi access point with speed limited to 10mb/s is not so bad?
It's not bad at all. But all I am getting is 50-60Kb/s of download speed and at very short distances.
How do I know my modem? I only know the official GB modem I flashed using Odin.

OK, I was wrong with my modem/radio idea
Anyway, if you get speed over 6Mb/s from public 10Mb hotspot (SpeedTest result) your phone is OK! When you try to download something, and it is downloading slow, it probably means that the server you are downloading from has slow upload speed... Result from SpeedTest shows that your connectivity is fine...

Clearly you have got the buck wrong here man, its not only his speed that is the problem, it is the range, this phone is capable of a lot of range, I can reach wifi networks from down the road when I was on gb and ice isn't quite as good and he wants the best he can get.
If you like my posts hit thanks
Sorry for the late reply guys. changing the modem and the kernel didn't work. It is still super SLOW and the range is still the same (even after turning on Devil's fast-wifi)
Any more suggestions?

Basically on the Galaxy S2, Orange UK had an app which allowed you to have your mobile signal run through your Wifi signal, which was great for me as I have terrible signal at home. Someone ripped it and allowed people to install it on custom ROMs, which worked as long as you on Orange.
How hard would it be to modify the app so it could work on the i9305? I've attached the flashable file which I used on the i9100 incase someone wants to tinker with it.
I remember something similar being attempted with the sensation xe with the move from gingerbread to ics. Lots of issues and bugs, not sure if they ever got it working 100%
Sent from my GT-I9305T using xda app-developers app
Ah right, this was a stock gingerbread app which got converted to work on any custom ROM, I had it on CM9 which was ICS

I think it is known that orange signal boost does not work on anything above gingerbread. Also, I asked ee about it and they said they have no plans for signal boost on the 4gee network. I don't know whether that means the network will not support it or they just won't enable it on the handsets.
I think they plan to release a femtocell so that might be the reason they're abandoning signal boost.

It definitely worked on ICS, I have my S2 in at hand which is running ICS and it has the app working. It's a shame that Orange themselves don't have plans for it, the app is so useful, which is why I turnt to you guys to see if you could work your magic
ask ur carrier to boost ur frequency i did with telstra said i wasnt happy and the put it on max signal boosters do not work i know i have worked in telstra it can only be done on the other end

Contrary to popular belief, the modem does not affect your Wi-Fi signal, that is handled by the kernel.

you're wrong son, i have tested aprox.~ 10 Modems, Tested on Wifi Signal and the modem affect Wifi. On a modem 200kb and another 2mb (same wifi router )
Best for me , XXJVT , Good Signal, Wifi.
The only thing that may affect it is the time taken to connect to wifi :highfive:

Okay guys. Sorry if someone have already ask this before... But I couldn't found it. Its there is any list with which xperia z1 you should get for each company? I was thinking about moving to Verizon but I had read that any of the z1 will support their signal. I also saw at&t and T-Mobile. Which one you all recommend? And the signal of this phone is good? I read about WiFi problems and connectivity problems in General. I have a sprint galaxy s3 on sprint and I am done with their signal and I am kind of tired of their design and touchwizz (or how ever you spell it) even if I run a custom ROM here.

Maybe rewriting your question would help
I am not from the US but I really do not understand what you are trying to ask about.
Why don't you just speak to your carrier and see what they say about which is best for you......
Sorry if I misunderstand your situation but I cant get my head around your question
