I don't know why you want to use stock 2.1 but doxianh made a module for overclocking -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17101902&highlight=stock#post17101902, it's quite old as you can read in the intro that they are hoping for a custom kernel I suggest to install a custom rom instead of the overclock module
you cant add overclock settings but you can install overclock module and with an app like setcpu control it.
if you want to customise 2.1 try to install app2sd
Thank u guys

I've just been looking at some more rom's for my sgs but i'm haveing some trouble trying to find the right way to get Simply Honey 3.8 Revolution on my phone.
I am currently running:

Kernel: 2.6.32.9
[email protected]#22

1- Disable lagfix if you are using it, backup EFS, etc.
2- Flash stock JVP via ODIN
3- Flash CFroot kernel via Odin
4- Flash GingerHoney via CWM
Thanks for your help, I'm all done now exeped for which is the best kerrnel to run and were to get it from.

I have a question about kernel. Now i'm running cf root kernel...btw i want to change bootanimation so i have to change kernel too. If i change kernel, do i lose root access? what about applications i have installed? Before flashing new kernel do i have to remove lagfix/ext4 or can i leave it?
Thanks for help

Changing of bootanimation does not require u to change ur kernel.Changing of kernel will not make u lose ur root access.Only changing of roms make u lose ur apps unless u install (no wipe) roms. Before changing kernel u need to disable lagfix before changin kernel to prevent problems appearing

Are you sure is not required? i've seen everywhere that only some kernels supports changing of bootanimation. How can i change bootanim w/o flashing new kernel?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Not all kernels support changing the bootanimation.

Hmm bootanimations just need to be stored somewhere in ur phone bt some kenels read different names not bootanimations.zip.

Try absolute system tools for great interface with previews and massive choice of boot animations
Is that an app available on market?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Anyway the problem is not where/how to place .zip file... The problem is that lot of kernels don't recognize .zip bootanimations, but just .qmg boots.

Guys please suggest me on how to change the kernel without changing ROM, the only reason is to get a better battery back up
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA
Just flash it via cwm, it will not affect your current settings... If you don`t have, you must root your phone and install cwm recovery, download your desired kernel and flash it...
And read a little bit in development section, it`s all there...
Yup, flashing a kernel will not change your ROM.
Press thanks to helpful answers!
Thanks bro

Dear friends,
I always stuck at SE logo whenever I try to install custom rom. Here is what I do:
1. Root My stock 2.1 with Flashtool
2. Install Busybox with flash tool
3. Copy xrecovery's 3 files to system/bin
4. Restart in xrecovery and Choose Install custom zip
5. After installation, I reboot and stuck!!!
I have tried "MiniCM7-2.2.1-shakira" and "GingerDX-v029-shakira.zip"
Any Help?? I dont want to unlock my bootloader.
Thnx
"MiniCM7-2.2.1-shakira" and "GingerDX-v029-shakira.zip" uses custom kernel.must on unlockbootloader
use gingerdx v29 for stuck

Did you do a full wipe?

Find some help here ... don't use xrecovery, cwm is better ... and use gingerDX stock... my recommendation

No, how to do this?? is there any risk of hard brick?
No just find the baseband file and flash it on flashtool
Sent from my X8 using xda app-developers app
i recommend to you to start from scratch, 2.1, root, flash baseband, install busybox, install CWM recovery, the full wipe and flash rom, you can flash the baseband with flashtool, and i think there is no risk, i have done it several times, the baseband xxxx15 is required to flash custom roms.

If you have installed gingerdx there is no need to flash baseband xxx15 because you already have it!

In stock ICS ROM I feel, Battery life is much better than custom ROM. So I RUUed my phone. But missing some awsome feature like S2W.
So can any1 teach me How to enable S2W in stock ICS ??
and please I also want Battery with Percentage
You can't, it's only on rooted phones. If you want, flash stock rook with modified kernel and then install trickstermod to enable s2w
Click thanks if I helped you out!

You have to flash Poondogs kernel, than a su.binary for accessing root, reboot and download from play store "Trickster Mod" and there you can set sweep2wake on
