I am looking for some help.
I have an unlocked Note. CM9 is installed. Apps are all updated.
I was on straight talk in the states. Now that I am traveling a bit (currently in the middle east) i am using a local SIM card to make phone calls / use data.
Its working great - besides the fast that the data is way past slow.
The only problem is that the phone region locked me out of the TV/Movies (google play) that I bought / downloaded.
Does anyone know how I can continue to use the local sim card while maintaining access to my google play media?

dont know how they go about traveling and counties unsupported even thought you bought in a supporting country.
I did read there is a tamprred version supposedly disabling country check but not sure if it will help in this case.
I think the purchases are linked to account, and not sim/emei. But not sure about that.

All that I could find through that link is that I need to update my apps.
I did - everything is up todate, but they still dont work. I am guessing they are just region locked.

same happened to me, downloaded movies in Google Play, paid for them, got inside plane, landed in Germany and no movies played. Only message this video is not supported in your country. Called Google, unfortunately they said once you leave US it stops working, same of the movies purchased in US are still not even playing in theatres overseas etc. Offered me to refund the money. This really really sucks, I don't know why they even bother to introduce this Google feature, if you can use it only in one country.

Really annoyed. I rented and downloaded a lot of movies thinking.. brilliant... while I am in the middle of nowhere in Bangladesh I can at least enjoy some films. Very annoyed.

First of all..USA, my country is not stupid okay? Before you call something stupid you need to read our bill of rights nd ammendments for which my country is founded upon. I could call your country "Full of ****" but before I do that. I have to know, understand and absorb fully well why I said so. Irresponsible marks can put you in jail in some parts of the world you know. "Ignorance to the Law" excuses NO ONE!. that is at least how we have it here. (not sure in your part of the world though).
Your Google Account speaks of your information to where you are.. So even if you change your country (in your Account settings), you still can't fool Google on your current location (if your outside of the U.S.)
And apart from that, Google movies and books were never in the first place launch internationally. It was just here in the States that Google decided so. Not sure why they did that but you can maybe blame Google and not the country itself. Just like Apple.. Most american companies pets their people first before giving it to others. Not to be a racist or something but that is just how it is. Yeah we have our congressmen and senators always imposing laws about the internet and stuff but they're just as well protecting to the best interest of the American people. And to be honest, I don't necessarily support all of their actions okay?(like the SOPA thing) but it doesn't warrant me saying that USA sucks already.
Again.. Blame Google not the Country.. If Google says that google books and movies are only for your country then fine.. I don't question why it's only in your country..so be it. I don't trash talk why your country was given that preference only.. Now again, the question why you can't read books and watch movies in Google is not the fault of the country itself. Blame Google for setting up their servers on U.S. soil. And quit whining..USE a US free VPN (if you can get around with it) to perhaps use these feature...if you still can't get anything out of it then your'e out of luck and just better shut up and stop complaining.

What I wrote was having regionally set things up is stupid, not your Country, I think you misread that. Just companies policies. Its not only Google, but Blackberry, Samsung actually almost all companies.
What in my opinion makes Googles policies extra stupid is inhibiting functionality, if you live in USA you can use the movies and music, but if you happen to travel, your not alowed to use the functionality anymore in a unsupported country.

That's why I removed it.
I just happened to have a copy because I had backed up before doing a flash.
I was able to get spotify working on my computer but I get a force close with droidify while trying to log in and I'm in the us by the way.

The RIAA is slowly killing anything decent as far as web-based apps like pandora and is currently bogging down spotify's entry into the US market in an attempt to basically blackmail them into unreasonable and exorbitant royalty scales which (IMO) are entirely designed to "prop-up" and perpetuate a bloated, ineffective and out of touch industry. So my question is, for those of us that have the spotify apk, or have the droidify apk, will they stream to US based IPs? Or will the transmission be blocked (as it implies on spotify's homepage) and if it is, is there a nifty way to route the traffic through a proxy based overseas so the US users can actually enjoy this innovative app instead of being locked out by the corporate, capitalist will of the RIAA?

Think I'll play with it a bit and see what all the fuss is about. If I like it enough I suppose the monthly fee would be worth it. A lot more functionality here with custom playlists, caching of playlists on my mobile and whatnot. I'm currently a Pandora subscriber, spotify is offering everything I wish they could, though their pricing is much more attractive. I wonder if spotify would balk at the use of a US credit card?
The site allows you to download the official app manually if you're having problems with the market, so here it is. Still need a premium account, though. The download was free and since you need to pay to use the service, I don't think I'm doing anything bad by posting it here...

Currently Norway is not a supported region for paid apps (see http://market.android.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138294 ).
Try the beta version of the market enabler ( http://code.google.com/p/market-enabler/ ) which I believe allows you to select which region you want to "appear" to be in so you can access the apps from that region.

rooting your phone is kinda easy... but i admit it's a pain in the ass to have to mod it just for one or two apps

I live up in Troms, Norway and I am a bit miffed at the ristrictions imposed on the market place too. I'm searching for a workaround and will post any easy solutions.

Hopefulle Google will change the way they support norwegians in the marked. It`s a shame!
To be fair, I believe that it is technically simple, but legally complicated to offer up something like the market in a new territory.
Essentially, Google is acting as a middle-man for all the application developers, who are selling you their apps. Depending on where they are physically located, there are all sorts of issues that may need to be taken into consideration (e.g. VAT, tax, payment processing etc) before they can open up the paid apps market to a new territory.
Not really much help to those of you in unsupported regions, and I do believe that a company the size of Google (and with resources to match!) should be able to do this much quicker!

It's not legalities that are the problem here but bureaucracy and people sat on their arse drinking coffee and eating cake all day at work. It takes so damn long to get anything done in Norway. Take a look at the XBox 360 update - streaming movies and tv available but switched off in order to let a Norwegian company take control of the content. (But the contracts, and therefore the service, were not ready because everyone was on summer holiday!)
Don't hold your breath for a paid app Marketplace here until at least end of the year.
This is exactly the sort of area where the EU should step up to the plate to harmonize the laws across individual member states. I''m not talking about taxation, or tax rates, but it should be much easier to do business with the EU as a "bloc". Trouble is the bureaucrats seem to spend more time thinking up legislation to complicate and hinder, rather than make things simpler and easier for the people they represent!

I understand your frustration very well, My country is in European region and IN the EU community and we can't buy payed apps on marketplace either. Our mobile providers have to make deals with google before they can enable it.
Typical Belgium, always steps behind.
These new smartphones and app markets are what makes these new generation phones appealing.
Hope it wont take to long, otherwise people start pirating soft like on WM.

Yes it works but I have seen people with suspended wallet accounts because of these fake addresses. People were crying even on this forum because of this issue. Not everyone face this problem but probably they do random checks.

doesn't even have to be a nexus device, any android device is safe since it's open source from Google.
Plus unlike Apple, don't see Google suing anyone for unlocking or rooting their os.

IMO the whole thing is stupid. I have paid for ALL my apps, and I refuse to use ANY Android device without root access. So why am I being punished?
I HATE ADS, and have no problem paying for apps to not have ads. However if a paid version isn't available, then I still want my ads blocked...

What about apps by developers from countries that don't have the luck to be included in the merchant account list? Their only way to monetize their hard work is ads and using their apps with ads blockers is not fair at all. If you hate ads that much, please stop using the apps that are supported by them.

Yeah, since my Nexus 7 is wifi only, how does unlocking it violate carrier rights? It's not a phone, it's a wifi tablet. Unlocking and rooting gives me access to all the hardware and features of the software, which I have rights to as the licensee. If they don't want you to have access to the full ability of the OS, they should remove it. If it's there, then it's mine to use per the license.

Once those in power are ready to take over the world, they'll need more than just gun control laws to round up the masses for reeducation. Phone and tab modification should give them the reason to round up several more million citizens for reeducation.

I read thru all the below comments.. This new law does not make it legal to unlock your device. It puts the control into the hands of your devices carrier as to rather you can unlock it or not. Now the carriers all just need to do like at&t has been firm on.Just say NO unlocked devices allowed on there Network.. This is a step back word in my opinion. I hear about people all the time jail breaking there i phone or ipad to side load pirated apps. They say i tunes charge to much for them. But the android community STRONGLY screams to everyone to pay the developers for the apps. Android apps are reasonable priced as well. This is due to the developer having more control and giving less money to google.. I think this will be the way into the future.To make devices and phones even more disposable.. I so hope google stands up and puts this crap away.
If xda follows this new law. They will have to take down every hack for every tablet and get permission from phone carriers to post the ability to unlock and root phones on there networks.. NEXUS Phones tied to a carrier follows the same laws .

Not quite correct. This just means that carrier unlocking is no longer exempted from the DMCA. In other words, OEMs can sue folks that post a narrow scope of exploits. This pretty much is a moot point considering that the only OEM that was doing this was Apple and the Jesus Phone is no longer exclusive to big blue. As there never was an exemption specific to tablets, nothing there has changed. DMCA exemptions are reviewed and revised every three years.
There's a lot of hystronics and FUD going on about this, driven partly by a desire to generate traffic to certain sites I'm sure. In the end, it is just as I said before... much ado about nothing. The sky is not any closer to falling than it was twelve months ago.

I haven't updated any firmware or security policies. I'm perfectly fine staying as is
The two apps can be disabled, so no biggie to me. There does seems to be at least one bug fix. My recent apps button was a little wonky. It is fixed now.
I hope there isnt something in the update that further prevents root being achieved. If you go to att website there is no way to prevent update either.

It boggles the mind really that senior leadership and marketing does not troll XDA for ideas that would actually help them succeed in product management.
The 1st carrier to the gate with a device that comes with nothing but vanilla android, is not boot locked, or in any other way hindered for root would (I predict) gain a 10% market share inside of 30 days. Business 101....cater to the majority ESPECIALLY when no one else is. fu***** idiots!!! Do they not realize that we all may enjoy different apps, but that is what the app marketplace is for? Some my even want At&t's apps ( lol ) but they need to put them on the play store and let people choose. You know...democracy and all that. Maybe they think that their apps give them a leg up on their competition? Really? Seriously? An app is going to make the difference of someone choosing AT&T S5 over Verizon S5? OMG please tell me they are not stupid. (I'm long winded and redundant due to hoping De La Vega is reading this btw) Evidently they need things spelled out. I certainly hope he realizes that most normal people make carrier decisions based on price of service, coverage, speed of 4G, etc. You know; that business 101 thing again. Hey Mr. Vega; how many people do you have writing code for AT&T apps? What are you spending on that? What are you paying that marketing jack ass that told you to hire people to write code for AT&T specific apps and bloatware? I hope you get where I'm going here. My God man, take a breath, sit back, clear your mind of all the hype and confusion of the bubble your in and look at this thing from the outside. Get back to the basics and provide a product and service that people want. We dont want or need to have to take the lessor of the evils (context of who has less bloat if we want a new device). Dont believe me? Attempt to find 0.1% of your customers that just has to have one of your bundled apps. Let me know how that goes for you. In the mean time the other 99.9% of us will only be getting more frustrated.

True in the literal sense that "people on XDA". I beg to differ though in that the general majority people would not want things shoved down their throat. All people want choice over the carriers take it or leave it attitude. In addition more and more people are becoming aware of what used to be only "for geeks". My 68 year old father for instance is fully aware of the advantages of having less apps taking up more storage and/or running in the background eating up ram and battery life when he has no need for most of them. The statement "if I wanted them loaded and running I should be able to choose that for myself" or something along those lines is growing among even the "non techies". And lets face it; I would bet that most people on XDA are the defacto come to people in their families for advice on all things electronic. Therefore even a minority can have a large effect on the majority.
BTW, I have no bubble to burst. My age, maturity, and I.Q. puts me well beyond trivial things like that.

Exactly. Any company that followed the wishes/preferences of those on XDA would be out of business soon.

As above. Your looking at the small picture. Those wishes and preferences are not only those of XDA.
It's almost laughable that you are saying that a company that eliminates bloatware and possibly gives an opportunity for root would be out of business soon.
A very small example would be the fact that people are flocking to a carrier with substantially less coverage and reliability (T-Mo) because of wifi calling. A feature that AT&T and Verizon eliminated for seemingly no reason. Why? because a handful of people out of 10's of thousands might only use the device for free wifi calls versus buying service from them? How many people are going to buy a high end device averaging 650.00 to do that with? So your telling me that if AT&T released an update tomorrow that allowed easy rooting or at least got rid of bloatware and turned on wifi calling, that people would not flock to AT&T? Big picture...

There are a few out actually. The biggest issue is they are all pay retail upfront. I am specifically speaking to the fact of major carriers increasing their market share / customer base and customer loyalty through standard channels and current business practices and plans offered.
But i'll bite anyway. Lets look at Oppo. A Chinese company started on a shoe string budget and prayer mostly. I don't have the time or the room to fully explain all the numbers, but suffice it to say that if they were in America they would have set or broke dozens of records concerning initial interest, market share versus time in market, profitability, units sold, % increase in sales versus time, net worth versus initial valuation, etc, etc...
And that was for full price units from an unknown Chinese company in a market full of unknown Chinese companies that all have a low initial trust rating. Multiply their numbers X 1000 for a trusted US carrier to do anything similar with a hot trusted device

Where do you think the one plus came from. That would be from the former VP of OPPO of course. He saw those numbers for the N1 and the Find and knew you don't have to be a marketing guru to see the obvious. He left a lot of money and an incredible future with Oppo to help bring out the one plus.

Haha wow. Not even sure where to start. For one it's a numbers game, throw the apps out there and maybe %10 will use it, maybe even %1. That's still more people putting money in their pocket than previously. Most of the users don't care about bloatware, if anything they view it as ATT offering them more than they got originally and at most a minor annoyance. So long as it doesn't brick their device they don't care, at most they just won't use it. The idea that "if you want it then find it on the market, and then choose ours over the competition" is just silly, why leave it to chance when you can increase your odds by putting your app on their phone directly in their face? %99.9 of users are frustrated by the addition of more bloatware or are infuriated by having it at all? we all know that's not even close to true, I've never heard a friend complain that the update to their phone added more apps. If you really think any of the higher-ups are reading your rant you're delusional. Go ahead and spam them, and again if you really think that goes directly to their inbox, you're delusional. Sure it will be addressed by someone, but it won't be any of the higher ups your trying to contact. Do you really think they're tech savvy enough to even know what you're talking about? They're put in place because they know how to manage multi-billion dollar companies, not because they know the ins and outs of a cell phone.

"shoved down their throats" is a bit of an exaggeration. They load the app on the phones, it's not like it cripples the device or stops the device from functioning unless you use it. The S5 is still a rockstar even with the bloat. I do concur that most of us here are probably the people that relatives/family go to for phone advice. However guarantee neither of my parents or any relative for that matter would care about a phone having bloatware. They want a phone that will serve a purpose and maybe they can play some games on it.

They are protecting their assets. The more options you have to use a competing service the more money they lose. reduce the ability to use the competitor and you rid yourself of that chance.
That all being said I am not a fan of bloatware, at all. Nor am I agreeing with their tactics. But step into reality. They want to maximize profits and get their users to use their apps so it can be billed to them.
I do have another theory for how much the phones are locked down these days. If anyone has followed the news; they're trying to head off phone thefts, they've spiraled out of control. Easiest way to prevent someone from stealing a phone? make sure that even if it is stolen, it can't be used anywhere because it's locked down like fort knox (pun sort of intended )
Sorry for any feathers i've ruffled.
To get back on track this update has made the phone smoother and have noticed no lag where there used to be lag before. Battery life seems better too so far.

I read the AT&T update page- what i can offer. I didn't accept the last weeks security certificate and I've been going into Running apps and stopping the AT&T OTA update process on any reboot(it doesn't seem to auto-restart) and I have not gotten any alerts or been pushed the OTA since.
I'll update if this changes.
Updated and lost my s health data. All my steps lost ?
I never get any alerts and i agree to security certificates. Also i did not update yet just want to if we can revert back with Odin or if can use Kies to get back ?
