USB host possible for P1000?? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I was wondering...I see that there is a possibility for the other Galaxy Tab's to connect an external storage via USB.
Is this also possible for the Tab 7" P1000? Perhaps via a custom ROM??
Greetings from the Netherlands!
Mike

Same question.

Even I have the same query.. I was hoping we could also use the feature of usb otg.. I guess it has to do something with the kernel.. I may be totally wrong as well..

In CyanogenMod 9 development thread cdesai explains USB host is possible in CM9, but only with a Y cable, not with official USB adapter from Samsung. The problem is I found in the shops the official Samsung adapter, while I believe Y cables aren't sold, so if you want to have one, you have to build one by yourselves.

You must install Samsung USB driver first.

So, all we have to do is develop a Y-cable. Could you give the link of the thread you are referring to where cdesai explains usb host capabilities.
Also could you explain what are bootloader and kernel for ?
Thanks in advance.

Let me try.
Bootloader is like the boot manager in PC, like Grub or LILO in Linux.
it contains the codes that allow you to boot to recovery and download mode.
There us primary and secondary but I don't know which is which, and they are irrelevant to USB host mode.
Kernel is the actual OS.
It contains drivers as well. The USB port drivers included.
To have USB host mode, the driver has to support that mode.
(Nothing to do with SAMSUNG USB Driver, which is on PC side)
Sir Otto is referring to CM9 build

okay so i get it. for using usb otg we require :
1. usb host diagnostics (i guess)
2. 30 pin dock connector to female usb.
3. a y-cable
Process : connect usb otg cable to the tab, then connect y-cable to the otg cable, then connect the drive. if it requires power then connect the second end to external power supply.
Correct me if i am going wrong somewhere.
But my real question is that, do we really have a working galaxy tab 7 with usb host working and cm9 installed ? even if we have, could we have the info on that ?

Even i have seen this cable on ebay. But does it really work.
I guess they work on higher versions of galaxy tab because they have usb host capabilities as a built in feature. But since p1000 doesn't support, so i am not sure it works.

The problem is that the tab do not provide enough power, USB host voltage must be 5 volts which the tab do not provide.
But try this and it should work.

No I don't use it because I still need that extra power, so for me it is kind of useless procedure ''just my opinion'', and have to carry the y cable and the charger to get it work.

I made a Y cable with external power supply and downloaded the app USB Host Controller by SztupY. But when I run the app with either a jumpstick, an USB keyboard, or an USB mouse, the app couldn't recognize any of these devices was connected.

I believe neither this isn't right: we need a Y cable, that should have a port to insert the mouse, joystick, keyboard or pendrive, a port to plug and charge the tab and a dock to connect the cable to the TAB.

I believe you'll need a Y cable and an OTG cable.

NO-APN PROBLEMS?
If you get GSM but no data, and you cannot save any APN settings, it means you have what I'm calling a 'funny SIM'. Certain mobile operators use SIMs which include an extra data storage area to be used for things like GSM Banking etc. CyanogenMod currently does not fully support these SIMs on the new baseband.

I ended up just using a different version of Odin. 1.83 didn't want to see the phone. 1.3 did. I have no idea why but it worked. I flashed back to stock and then used AIO toolbox to flash root, cwm, and the ICS Gummy.
try to use other usb port if phone not detected again
I recently had to painstakingly cycle through 5-6 different Odin versions, 512 .pit files, and jfd .tar combinations before Odin passed. Had the same previously working odin 1.7, 512pit and jfd in a folder marked "WORKING ODIN", so I was a bit slow to accept that possibility haha.

Which is why I had to use the drivers for the Nexus from the ICS SDK. When I upgraded to newer bootloaders, the old drivers from the Froyo SDK stopped working. I couldn't Odin/ADB/download mode. When I used the USB drivers from the ICS SDK, all was well again.
I've been using the same drivers for almost two years,Odining from Froyo to Eclair to ICS, back to Eclair,.........with no problem.
That includes flashing bootloaders back and forth, even though GB loaders are backwards compatible.

I do not respond to tech support via PM
On the site of ST Ericsson says it has the suport OTG U8500 BLOCK DIAGRAM: Confuso:
As far as I know, OTG requires kernel support. Cocafe mentioned something about trying to add it in future cocore versions.
My Device : Rooted GT-I9070

I know this post was from a long time ago, so I'm sorry to revive this one. But I do not have this model yet and I have the intention to buy it.
So my questions are:
1. For Xperia V, should be used the CA-157 cable or another one with an external power source to use an USB memory stick (I'm not referring to an HDD, which I'm sure is necessary an external source due to 1A current)?
2. Should be root-ed to be mounted an external memory (USB storage)?

I asked above that because I tried to connect an USB memory stick to an Xperia Neo (MT15i) phone and without an external power, only mouses are working, was necessary to use an USB cable or micro USB hub with an external power to be recognized an USB memory stick.

im not too sure to be honest as it is a feature i do not use or am required to use .... if you have the stuff there give it a test and let us know how you get on ?
I just bought one Xperia V and I tested with a simple OTG cable and it's working without any external power source.
I tested with an USB memory stick and with an USB SD card reader with an SD card inserted.
The external USB device is reported on the Settings -> Storage as: "USB storage".
The USB partition is mounted at: /usbdisk.

Is your Lenovo S2110 / Vodafone Smart Tab II 10 stuck at bootloop ? It's not bricked !!!
I found a way to unbrick the Lenovo 2110 / Vodafone smart tab II 10 !!! And it's incredibly EASY.
Warning! In case you have a 3g model you may lose 3g!
But it's a small price to pay for having your tablet back from brick , plus I'll be fixing this issue asap (read below)
You'll need:

B. a Micro USB B Male to USB 2.0 A Female OTG Data Host Cable like this...
C. an Usb memory stick
Procedure:
1. Copy the rom image (A) on an external Usb memory stick (C).
2. Connect the Usb external memory (C) to the tablet using the Usb cable adapter (B)
3. Boot the tablet in Recovery (hold Power btn + Vol down btn until the vibration)
4. The External Usb memory will be loaded OTG !

Thank you for your kind support yoshiro .
I already have received a couple of extractions...but can't get it to work as easily as I expected!
So we're stuck at the moment as I don't have too much time to dedicate to fix this
Do you have another link for this Firmware?
