PHP:
chmod 666 /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness
echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness
chmod 444 /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness
This script only works for around 15 seconds, after which the "brightness" file reverts back to the default value, 255, instead of 0.
Is there any way to permanently disable the LED lights?
Put duct tape over the soft keys
If you have a screen protector use it under the duct tape
sorry for my bad english

Why do you keep the kaiser in your pocket anyway many reports of cracked screens normally happen there.

Yup
There is a reason the screen is slightly lower than the rest. For protection.
But hey, if you don't take care, things get broken. But I believe the Wizard was extremely well built. It could take practically any beating. Sometimes I even believed it was bulletproof!
Hope the Kaiser can live up to the Wizard ^^

You have to soft reset for registry changes to take effect.

Really? That's handy! Thanks
the mute-when-flipped-face-down doesnt work!! (new phone)
so i checked for this in the registry according to this well-known-tweak:
4. Switch Mute Call on phone flipped face down: HKLM\Software\HTC\PHONE : FaceDownMuteRing: change value to "0"
but it is set to 1, so it should work, but it just doesnt.
I have it lying flat face-down on a very horizontal desk, but it still rings!
any suggestions?
thanks!
Flip off
I had the same misunderstanding. The flip ringer silence functions by turning the phone when it begins to ring and laying it face down. Hope this helps.

hi m8!
thanks for your reply
1. then this whole function becomes much less interesting i think
2. i tried your suggestion: didnt work as well.
it should be nice to have it muted while display face the table but the real usage gives sense as well ... the phone is ringing you look who is calling and then put it back on table to mute it ... if you want to have permanent mute then simply activate vibrate / silent mode ...

FaceDownMuteRing is set to 1 default (as i have it now) and it doesnt work now.
You say i should set it to 0: that doesnt make sense. 1 = true,
in this case meaning to mute when facedown......
Not?
Mine is set to 0 and does not work....

Seems like you have a duff phone there, id send it back for a replacement or get them to fix it.
ok - set mine to 1, did not work. Figured a reg change might need a soft reboot - which I did and now - IT WORKS

Are you aware that this doesn't work if you are called and your phone is already facing down!? This function requiers you to flip the phone face down when you get a call (from the starting position when it is on its back). If it is facing down already you need to flip the phone 360 degreeds over its longest axis to mute it.
This function is not suitable for meetings in which you cannot be disturbed. In that case you need to put it on silent or vibrate mode manually in the config menu.
aware of that yes.
set to 1, reboot, tried
set to 0, reboot, tried
set to 1, reboot, tried
nothing works.....mmm
Do your accelerometors work? Does the web and photos move around the screen as you rotate the device? Does the ball game work?
I simply changed the value from 0 to 1 and reset.
Left the phone face up on my desk and called it. Then turned it face down and the ring was muted...

i tried it after 3 hard resets! each time worked only once till the first soft reset. after a soft reset the value in the registry stayed "tweaked" but with no effect.

mine works no problem... make sure you are using the new ROM's. (and btw having the phone so that it is silent when ever the phone is face down is silly, coz it may be in you pocket (or hand bag 4 women) and face down and then it wont ring... no good. the default method, of looking at the screen and then turning in face down is a good idea tho...)
I had the same problem - didn't work no matter what i did. Recently i updated the ROM to 1.93 and this fixed the problem. Works like a charm now.

My htc diamond has a problem that, sometimes the device will be turned on accidently, causing accendential phone calls, which is very annoying.
By then, I realised the problem was caused by the stylus control (which turn the device on when stylus is pulled out), that the problem never occur without the stylus. So, is there any way to disable the stylus sensor control that turn on the device?
When you remove the battery cover and the stylus there is a little black switch on the side.
Edit: Ahh well it aint a switch but it is the sensor for the stylus. Break it and you'll be fine
use a Password so you can't do anything when it is turned on

is there any software to deal with, apart from breaking the physical component?
I had same problem before!
just use a plastic tape to cover the sensor is OK!

I'm using the cdma diamond
I have the same problem - my Diamond sometimes wakes up in my pocket because of the stylus sensor . I've been looking for software solution, but nothing found... Is there a registry key that can turn the stylus sensor off? Or maybe a small program that does this...? Please, need your help...

Use TouchLockPro and dissable the Stylus sensor in the program. When it wakes up in your pocket, it will lock your phone and go to sleep again after 30 seconds.
Any other way? TLP is too much for me, I look for something only for stylus sensor (I don't need to set light sensor, g-sensor, etc.). Otherwise I would like to completely turn it off (Diamond wouldn't wake up when the stylus is out). And of course I don't want to break it...

A piece of paper or tape over the stylus sensor/notch will also do.....you do not have to break it, as described in post #5.

It would have to be a service probably with small JNI module.
Let it sleep for button light timeout-1 seconds, and then check state of lcd brightness and if it is nonzero, set button brightness to 255. repeat forever.
There is also define KEY_LED_CONTROL in the kernel in drivers/input/touchscreen/qt602240.c. So I think it should have all worked in the kernel but somehow it doesn't. Maybe it could be possible to fix it all in the kernel.
PS. I have analyzed the code in the kernel. All it does is to handle /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness so it is up to user-space to turn the buttons on and off.
Interestingly, there is some unused code that suggest it should be possible to turn the 4 leds on/off individually but there is no user space inteface for that and the init code sets them to lowest brightness.
I guess we got lucky http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917441
That should work on the tab too.
Doesn't work on my ATT tab.

The relly exellent thing would be to be able to have the ligts at lhe lowest brigtness.
Sounds promesing.

I got in the habbit of scrolling the screen a little when i need the buttons , that turns the button lights on.
There is a chance that these lights are controlled by the code in bootloader, because when i flashed 1000l firmware , it almost bricked my tab, there was nothing on the screen, not even the trinagle, but i think i saw these lights come on, i could be wrong though.

When there is something magnetic in your pocket the phone is activated by the magnet sensor.
When you carry the phone in the pocket with screen turned to the skin then the phone is activated by yourself, because the screen is capacitative.
Belt case ?

Turn the screen away from your body/skin.
The proximity sensor works when activated after dialing to turn the screen OFF.
Or turn ambient display off

Xposed*is a framework for mod's that change the behavior Android. Root needed and downloading xposed-modules.
Never tried it, because I prefer a system close to stock. Therefore I use the prerooted lite stock rom of Danvdh.

This is my best suggestion. Turn the back of the phone towards your skin in your pocket. Absolutely the simplest solution.
Never had this happen nor should it happen. Ambient display is normally the cause and why most people turn it off. It is more likely that you are hitting the power button while it is in your pockets. Mainly to those dumb enough to keep it in their back pocket.
