Yesterday, the phone stopped charging. I thought the car charger is bad , so I plugged it in the home charger, still no charging, so I took out the battery. When I powered it on, I got a yellow screen with a little android digging with a shovel with words "Downloading, Do not turn off target". No matter what button combination I press, I can only get this screen to come up.
I have tried to do a hard reset several times, no luck, downloaded and installed drivers and did one click restore (I897UCJF6-final-OCD) , the phone is not seen by the software, have tried all usb ports ad different cables. also restarted laptop and reconnected with/without battery, still the same situation.
Phone was upgraded to official 2.2 update several months back and was hard reset once after that.
It seems, it is not getting power /connection from USB port since as soon as I take out battery, it dies even though it is connected to the USB port.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
The phone shouldn't stay on, even on USB, when you take out the battery. That's normal.
As far as getting it to connect, take a look at the "Captivate Connection Issues" thread in my signature. There should be something in there to help you out.
Thanks, I had looked at it earlier before posting too. Will have to try it out later in the day and report back.
I have tried the following with various combinations:
Laptop with win 7 64 bit and samsung drivers one click uploader and samsung usb cable, same cable with win xp desktop 32 bit with several attempts at rear usb ports. Have also tried to get the phone recognized by rebooting the laptop and desktop, but no luck.
Any direction to atleast able to see the phone?
Thanks
Do you have Kies instaled in your PC? Maybe it can help you! When you´re having problems with drivers just download Kies, it will download and instal them for you... Also try this it was helpful for me when I had softBrick...

Thanks for the tip. I will try and post the results.
in addition to different ports, maybe try a different pc, unless you have successfully connected cappy via usb to your laptop before.

I was working away on my computer with my X1 plugged into my monitor which is plugged into a little USB hub which is plugged into my PC. I have a bunch of devices plugged in, including my internets wireless.
Suddenly, all the USB devices lost connection and my phone screen went blank.
In a minute, all the other devices, including my wireless internet. But I couldn't get my cell to turn back on.
I tried plugging it back onto the USB connected to the monitor, and then into a wall-plugged USB - and I only got flashing red lights.
Can this be fixed?
There are many threads about this, so if this one doesn't help you, try one of the others:

Hey -
Yeah, I checked them, but none of the ones I saw seemed to apply to a completely full battery.
Anyway, thanks. I had another battery - (I've had two X1's having dropped one) - and I put it in and it works fine.
Cheers.
I used the following link to roll my Sprint HTC Hero back to .5. I pulled the RUU from the link ending with 694572. I couldn't post the link do to restrictions. It's gotten to about 74% and hasn't moved in quite some time. Have I bricked my phone or is their still a way I can recover?
I've left the phone alone and still connected via USB but it hasn't moved any further then 74% in about 45 minutes now. Anyone got any guidance on this? Has anyone seen this?
You could try re-running the RUU from your PC with the phone stuck like that (if you're able to). Sometimes that has fixed people's problems like this.
Make sure you use the one from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6686401&postcount=2
EDIT: Ok, I see that is the one you're using.
chromiumleaf - Should I kill the current install? When I try to run the executable again I get the message "Another instance of this setup is already running. Please wait for the other instance to finish and then try again"..
Yes, although I've never done this myself, I do believe that you can kill the current install, start it again and it will begin running it from square one.
I think something is wrong.. I am pretty sure it drained the battery below the 30% it needs. I'm getting the following error
"Error[120]: LOW BATTERY POWER
The battery power is less than 30%. Please replace the battery or recharge the battery, then try the ROM Update Utility again."
I swapped out my finance's battery with mine and it's still gives me the same error. So any suggestions now?
If you disconnect it from your PC and plug it into the wall, does it not charge itself?
I left it plugged in overnight using the regular power supply and it has fully charged the battery again. I also noticed their was an update for the SYNC software to Ver 2.0.40. So I updated that software and I am about to try it again. I'll post a follow up here in a little bit.
OK.. I tried again with a fully charged phone and No Good! Now I'm getting a totally different error. Has anyone come across this type of error?
Error [170]: USB CONNECTION ERROR
The ROM Update Utility cannot connect to your Android phone. Please check that the USB Cable is connected properly between the PC and your Andorid phone.
Check the following:
1. The Android phone is connected to the USB Cable
2. The USB cable is connected to the PC.
Check out this thread, about half-way down. See if anything there works for you.

I get that USB connection error on the first try every time. Just close the RUU program, reopen and re-run - always works on the 2nd time for some reason.
Whew!!! I don't know exactly how I got it to finally work.. But I did try it more than once and it still failed to load. But after holding 'Home' & 'Power', it showed it loaded my driver for the USB and then ran successfully this time. That's was an adventure that is for sure. Thanks all for the suggestions and help.. I really appreciate it. Since I still have over a month till I can upgrade again it would have blown having to roll back to my Instinct. Now on to Rooting again..
New member here, so please be kind to me
As of this morning after pulling my LG Rev off my wall charger. I go to plug it into my desktop to move some files and what not only to find the phone is not recognizing that I'm hooked to a computer.
Thinking it was a cable issue I swapped between cables and nothing, rebooted, even did the old-battery pull, and still nothing!
However with each cable it acts as if I'm still plugging it into a wall/car charger. Only shows charging and nothing else, the computer doesn't even make a "USB" connected sound, let alone the computer doesn't even see the phone.
Did you reboot the computer and the phone?
Sent from my VS910 4G using XDA Premium App
I have, let alone tried it out on several computers at home all with the same outcome.
I didn't install any app, other then did a TiB last night prior to putting it on my wall charger(only way to get a good overnight charge vs USB).
I was planning on trying to install the Revolt ROM today. Come to hook it up to my computer this morning, and now this.
I've been having all sorts of odd issues, like the Verizon OTA update doesn't install. Gets about 30% on the updating/unpacking then pops up a {!} and reboots. So at least once a day my phone will reboot for that.
I currently am rooted BTW and i have tried to un-root and even let the update attempt to go, but no avail.
NOTE: I did notice something else just a few min ago, on the stock LG ROM at least. Normally regardless what source Car/wall/usb was being used to charge the phone, It would show both red/green on the LED while charging/charged. Now its only showing green regardless of it being charged/charging.
I think I may just do an exchange from Amazon wireless. Seeing how its within my 30day window yet to do so.
You did change your connection to mass storage when you connected to your computer?
Sent from my VS910 4G using XDA Premium App
Yeah, played with all the settings and swapping modes.
Just for kicks did a factory reset still nothing.
Curious, is there any way to UN-root w/out the ability to use the USB?
Well I got my new Revo, and it came pre-updated already
And major problems since I've had it, constant reboots, almost always losing connection. WiFi wouldn't stay connected either, even if I'm 5 ft from any router/AP.
And I've tried my best to push back to the pre-update, but no avail!
So I've gotten a hold of Amazon wireless and they are doing an exchange for me, I'm going to jump on board of the HTC TB. Hopefully I'll have a better sailing experience.
BTW, any one want an LG extend battery cheap? lol
usb prob on mine just fixed
omg...I just had a similar problem, except mine popped up on my phone saying that the factory cable is plugged in and can not be used to switch usb modes. I was like...what the frick man...this is the same cable I have always used. I tried alll sorts of crap to no avail. Finally, I reinstalled the lg drivers on my laptop and rebooted both my phone and laptop and voila! It all worked again, using the same factory cable that my phone and laptop just had a so-called problem with. Hope that works for you too...I know how frustrating things can be.
had a very similar issue several days ago. all of a sudden, the phone was no longer recognized. tried everything (different cables, different computers, different operating systems, toggled several different options in settings)......to no avail. had to take it back to best buy....exchanged it for a new revo...everything is good now (including the fact that it was loaded with v4).
Hi everyone, first things first I have already read through the various threads on this subject but there doesn't seem to be any consistent advice/suggestions with my specific problem. I was trying to flash a custom ROM on my tablet and I don't know whats happened but the net result is that my tablet won't turn on and it only shows any signs of life when it is plugged in to the wall charger where you see the clam-shell style cell phone connecting to a computer screen but its flashing rather than constant (the forum won't let me post the youtube clip thats out there demonstrating this but google 'Samsung Galaxy Tablet Bricked' and if the first video that appears).
If its connected to my laptop then it doesn't charge at all and the laptop doesn't recognise the tablet at all so I can't re-flash stock firmware via Odin.
I have had it on charge using the wall charger for over 12 hours now and yet there still seems to be no life in it and I've tried all the various combinations of power + volume down button etc
Has anyone got any suggestions as to how I can sort it. Am I right in thinking that as it at least shows some signs that its not dead when you plug it in at the wall, that its not completely bricked?
Any help at all is greatly appreciated and apologies for going over old ground.

Does Odin see it? Computer may not recognize tablet but odin/heimdall should.

Otherwise, send it to this site, they claim that they will repair full bricked tabs

No even Odin doesn't recognise it. Haven't tried Heimdall though.
Its now been on charge for about 2 days and yet if you unplug it from the wall it doesn't turn on/respond to anything.
Boot into download mode before connecting to pc. Then open odin or heimdall. Use the latest versions.

the tab is that dead that I cannot boot it at all, let alone in download mode. If I unplug it from the wall charger it doesn't respond to anything. Completely impossible to do the above.
well my friend you have the same problem of another member in xda, i dont remember where i read about it, but am pretty sure that your battery is completely dead, it shows the same thing, when plugged to wall you can boot into download mode, once unplugged, you can't access to anything. In his case, he tried to charge it for a day, and then the tab turned on, he thought that the tab is alive again, so he tried to flash it, after 3 minutes, the tab went off again before the operation complete, and now his tab is fully bricked.
yours still alive, i think that it is soft brick, or not bricked at all, but your battery is dead, and you can't do anything without a working battery, if you have enough skills to change the battery, get one form the net, and you can also make sure that the battery is the problem when you open it, you can connect it to a stabilized power supply with the needed voltage and current, if it turns on, your battery is indeed the problem, if not, we should think about something else.
good luck my friend, i hope i helped a little.
edit : i fond it

this is exactly the same problem you have, read all the thread, before you do anything more harmful to your tab.

I have the February 2021 update installed on the global variant of the Razer phone 2 and everytime I connect it to my computer it says that the computer can't recognize it
I have tried connecting it to my other computers as well and it gives the exact same issue even on fastboot mode.
I tried different chargers, ports, windows 10/11, resetting the device many times, downloading the USB driver for it many times, reinstalling platform tools, many times, resetting my computer, updating all my driver's after resetting my pc,
I've tried my other phones and they work fine with all of my computers no hassal at all but I can't get the Razer phone to work.
I have USB debugging enabled but when I connect to the computer it doesn't show the notification on the phone but it is charging.
Please help I really don't know what else to try.
wasup.. im having this problem right now. exccept for me. my usb charger port went out so i replaced it. and its only charging for me now. my computer wont beep when its plugged in, doesnt even recognize it . it just charges. u ever figure it out? have u replaced ur charger port at all? that could be the issue maybe it not a factory part or somethin.
Yea eventually I just figured out that my USB port was bad and I just pushed the charger in and it worked you just gotta press the charger in and make sure you have a good charger that won't slip out easy.
Also if you're trying to debug make sure you check each port for the best one
