You can flash any stock firmware using pc odin without any risk, (I guess except a locked rom on OEM unlocked phone). Make sure you do not wipe once on stock ICS unless you flash safe custom kernel.
Never ever wipe/factory reset on stock ICS kernel. I would advice you to flash a safe kernel like hydracore and then follow the flashing instructions of the particular ROM you want to install.

can i use pc odin for flash my rom and then
Factory Data Reset option in ICS menu ?
No once you have flashed a stock ROM which has a stock kernel, you should not wipe at all. ICS stock kernels are not at all safe for wipes.

You can use pc odin to flash stock rom but do not wipe in stock recovery or factory reset in setting, it will brick your Note. First flash some safe kernel and then only perform wipe or factory reset.
use dr ketans proven method, see sticky section development.
Almost foolproof, read threads and read first posts and read stickies.
can not even do factory reset on normal ics menu ?
how can i sell my phone then without reset ?

you can from gb or at own risk in ICS. But then you risk not being able to sell phone lol

You can flash a safe kernel and then do a wipe in CWM.... then flash a factoryfs image using PC odin... it will be like out of the box...

hello friend..
tell me, was your phone revived by an official samsung repair center or by normal phone repair shops?
if by official samsung repair center, then im sure u can use odin without problems, if not by samsung,
go to- > settings ->storage [under Usb storage] tell me what is your total space? if it is 11.07GB, then u know u can flash with odin. But if its less than that, then you know your phone was revived with custom pit and U should be careful if u want to flash...

I m still using my note which was revived by pit method.
My total space is 8gb+.
I have been changing Rom and kernel.
The last 2 Rom I used are stock LRQ, and classicrom LRQ base v5.
During the changing of Rom, I always use either pc Odin, mobile Odin, or sometimes CWM if Rom flashable from CWM.
1 thing I always make sure is to be on the safe kernel first.
Pit reviving method, from my understanding is the same / similar to low format in harddrive of ur pc or laptop.
Whereby the bad sector is being marked, so we won't be able to use the marked space.
For the balance space.... it is totally safe to use.

Hi all,
I guess this subject must have come by, but i have not been able to find it using the search bar. So i hope some 1 can help me.
On my company we have 4 Samsung Galaxy I9000 in use, and 1 spare phone as backup.
Some of my collegue (and me aswell) changed our rom to Darky 9.5 and we are all very happy with it.
Now there is 1 phone that needs to return to the shop for repairs and i wanted to make a backup from the spare phone we have here. So i could flash his phone back to original rom.
I am from the Netherlands and the Rom that comes with the Phone is:
KIES says:
- PDA: JPC
- Phone: JPP
- Modem: JS2 (KPN(provider))
*#1234# says:
PDA: I9000XWJPC
Phone: I9000XXJPP
CSC: I9000KPNJS2
Is there a way to back up this Rom ? Or any other ideas on how to get this rom on the other phone ?
ty in advance for tips and tricks
well you could root a phone that is on stock ROM and make a nandroid backup and restore that on the phone to be sent back..
or you could go to www.samfirmware.com and find your firmware there and flash it using ODIN.
You have a 2.2 release, there is a 2.2.1 for this phone :

It's the official ROM is you try to upgrade your phone with Kies 2.0. You can try to install a SpeedMod Kernel before upgrading to format system and cache and wipe Dalvik cache, return in Download mode and Flash this ROM via Odin v1.3 in "One file Mode" (no repartition and no pit file, just the ROM in PDA file).
You need to have the 3 button combo working to do all this things to go in Recovery mode for "clean up" the phone via SpeedMod (no necessary but always good to do).

Ideal backup would be genuine original rom or genuine updated rom via Kies and back that up as stock factory rom .
I did via Kies registry spoofing and i believe that current Kies allows you to save firmware or at least its downloaded during the update and you save a copy before the actual update .
jje
Ooh a kies registry spoofing. Hmmm will have to look that up tomorrow. Is that hard to do ?
Will i be able to put that firmware on any sgs ?

Hum, my reply make download on PC the OFFICIAL release on Samsung FUS server used by Kies 2.0 and it's a working method NOW. Registry spoofing doesn't work anymore !
Hi, i replied the topic on my phone. now i see the replies that came before the registry 1..
Ty all for helping me. i am gonna try some and let you know the outcome.

This worked perfect, many many thanks. Now phone is ready to be returned.
hi guy, I'm a noob here and I tried to flash my Galaxy Note a custom kernel with root based so I used CF-Root-SGN_XX_XEN_KJ4-v5.0-CWM4 and my phone info. is
MODEL NUMBER: GT-N7000
ANDROID VERSION: 2.3.5
BASEBAND VERSION: N7000XXKJ4
KERNEL VERSION : 2.6.35.7-gb4946d2 [email protected] #2
so it is a custom kernel based rooted and cwm and rooted2 netchep. the problem is
when I restart my phone its returning to a restore point, even if I take pictures or download anything or erase some apps its returning to a restore point with the apps I erased or the pictures I erased , its like it is auto recovering to a restore point. also when I want to wipe out(factory reset) the SGN its doing everything normally and after wipping its auto rebooting but insted of having a formatted system I found that nothin happed and its returning to its previous status, ... I tried to return to its stock kernal and the same problem is happening.
I have downloaded the latest odin3 v.185
and I have downloaded my stock kernal which is N7000XXKJ4_N7000OXAKJ4_DBT ( united arab emirates) and still stucked with this damned cwm-based kerna !!!
I have trid the european kernal to match the custom kernal but it still the same !!!!
please can anyone help me !!
wooow ... it seems that there is no here is desirve to be called an expert >>> comm'on no rep...!!!!
You might have raised your binary counter too. B'coz it is the first kernel for rooting, netchip have introduced, but for raising counter it discntinued. anyway first go to a first link of my signature ' how to root' go to near last part of OP, 16Nov edit, n find I have Kernel KJ4, download n extracy it, If you have Root then execute I M rooted already, otherwise execute I m nonrooted n flash it. Hope you will get rid of that kernel, n later you can flash to any ROM with CWM
Afternoon all,
I've got a Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 and the about phone screen shows:
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: N7000XXLA4
Kernal Version: 2.6.35.7-N7000XXLA6-CL907341 [email protected]#2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XXLA6
First things first, I would like to root and I've looked around XDA / Google and found a couple of different methods. Which one is best and ensures I lose no functionality?
Many thanks all.
Rob
If you don't want to spend time downgrading - then again upgrading, simply flash rooted stock rom from pc odin.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025
So I download this the file I've highlighted in the .png attachment.
Then use ODIN to flash the 3 files on the phone and then I have fully rooted phone with stock ROM and kernel?
Yep, easy as that. After that you can flash Chainfire's CF Kernel for that rom (so you'll need the LA6 version of that kernel) if you want CWM Recovery and flash custom roms. If you just want root then you're done after you flashed with Odin.
may i know, it after rooted SGN, will i be able to upgrade to ICS via kies, or i have to flash back to stock GB.
You probably will lose root if you use kies.
use the zerg rush method, as flashing with odin will rise your binary counter and you will lose your warrenty, and i heard that if you flash any rom with odin even if it was stock one, you will lose the ability to update your phone from kies, for me updating from kies is useless as it will wipe your date and will take so long, i flash stock roms using odin because its faster and doesn't wipe your data
According to the thread where I downloaded the ROM from above I didn't need to worry about the flash counter. Can anyone confirm if this goes up or not?

Using a complete stock ROM will not increase your counter..also using Mobile Odin and recovery to flash won't..
The only thing that will increase your counter is flashing custom ROM and kernel through PC Odin..
So I can assume that because I used PC ODIN to do this update I've increased the flash count by one?
Is there any way to reset it?
Not if you flashed stock samsung rom.
To reset triangle and custom binary count,
Wait for official ICS then use Triangle Away.
Hi, I installed the official update to ICS on an N7000 then attempted to root in using the CWM.zip on external Sd, SuperSU on internal method. Itvwasnt successful, i uninstalled SuperSU with its uninstaller using the same method. But now my WIFI doesnt work. It just keeps trying to Obtain IP address then saying avoided poor connection. Ive read people say go to advanced wifi setting and stop it doing it but theres no option for it on mine. Is there a way to undo the whole CWM process I did so its back to just the original update?

I was trying to install Ultimate_N7000_LSC_JB_4.1.2_v5.1 on non-rooted device.
After booting into Recovery and installing CWM, i tried Data wipe/Factory reset.
(Battery was 100%)
The screen switched of suddenly and now i am stuck.
Here are somethings i have tried:
1) Tried flashing N7000DDLRB_N7000ODDLR4_N7000DDLR1_HOME.tar.md5 using ODIN. Never goes beyond NAND flashing (Tried in Admin mode, with ODIN Mode)
2) Tried flashing cm-9.1.0-n7000 and had status 0 and status 7 error many times.
Most of the flashing methods mention : "wipe data/Factory reset". Whenever i do that, i get stuck in "Wiping Data... .Formatting /data"
I have tried "Fix permissions", it wont work.
I didnt take a ROM backup and now i really regret it.
Currently when i navigate using CWM i can see all my internal as well as external memory files. So, i guess my OS is gone and files are still there.
The Custom Rom Counter says: Yes (Count 4) in ODIN mode.
Can someone help ? Please i am desperate.
What rom you on before flashing?..GB or ICS?

ICS 4.0.4
I had not done any Modifications, rooting to my N7000 before yesterday.
Would like to go back to Any ROM.
Unrooted ROM (ICS 4.0.4), Leaked JB Rom, CM9, CM10. Any ROM. Just want to get my phone up and running
What error do you get when flashing with Odin?
Does it stop at "factoryfs.img"?
How did you install CSM on your stock Rom ICS 4.0.4?
Your "soft bricked" sounds more like "super bricked" to me.. Did you use CWM.zip to wipe?
Tapatalking on my n7000
Yes. I used CWM.zip.
But now that my phone is not working, how do know what is the firmware version?

What does xxxx stand for? I have the Serial No. of my phone. And have done normal OTA updates only.
Brought from flipkart in August (if it helps narrow down the xxxx)
Superbricked or soft, please help.
Just downloaded some CWM file (Sorry i searched a lot, i couldnt remember the source)
Here are the steps:
Flash it with Odin 1.85, (Click PDA, choose the file and press Start)
After this you will have Root on your phone.
Now you can go into CWM and flash the Rom.
1) Download Ultimate XXLSC Jelly Bean 4.1.2 custom ROM for Galaxy Note to the PC
2) Connect the device to PC using USB cable and transfer the downloaded ROM zip file to the phone's SD card
3) Unplug the USB cable from the phone and then turn it off
4) Enter into Recovery mode by switching on the phone while pressing and holding Volume Up, Home and Power buttons together
5) In CWM Recovery, perform a full data wipe
Here is where it suddenly stopped and the screen went blank. (I am double sure battery was 100%)
Thanks for the prompt replies

If you have warranty then claim it.. Super brick means that the emmc chip it's burned.. There's some methods to get it to partially work but you lose around 3Gb of memory and generally you can not use TW roms.. Or at least stock TW.. Not to mention the random reboots and freezes..
So most likely if you don't have warranty then use the pit file method or pay for a motherboard replacement..

Thanks for the suggestion.
I managed to flash 4.0.3 ROM and stock Kernel and it somehow worked. (did too many things)
Here's the current status: Running 4.1.2 (XXSLO, ZSLM5). Unrooted and stock ROM. (Updated from 4.0.3 to 4.1.2 in kies)
Everything is back. The phone runs good. But when i try installing any software, it will freeze. The apk/app installs eventually but after 2-3 reboots.
Can you tell me the issue?
I read it somewhere that the "Cache" partition is damaged.
Can someone please tell me any way to avoid freezes.
