I've had this issue for a few weeks now and I can't think of how it's started. Basically when my phone says it's connected to 3g, I receive no data. I have to switch my data on and off a few times until it connects to H+ to receive data. While on H+ it does one of two things stays connected and may swap back to 3g when nothing is transferring and pop back to H+ when data transfer is requested or pop back to 3g and i get no data again until I switch on and off a few times. As you can imagine this is extremely annoying and hard to maintain steady connection needed by certain apps and such.
I first thought it could be the doing of a certain tower but I have tested this on far off areas and I'm getting the same issue. As you can imagine, there are some areas with only 3g so there is times I can't get data at all. So here is my plea to the greater knowledge of the community: any have any idea why this is happening and/or how this can be remedied? It seems odd that my antenna/radio can only be faulty towards one frequency. Or is there something else at hand here? Thanks in advance.

3G is "normal" 3G,
HSPA is enhanced 3G or "3G.5" and
HSPA+ is even faster HSPA.
Both are UMTS 3G technologies. H+ simply means you are capable of getting faster speeds.
HSPA (3G/H): Theoretical limit of 14Mbps down, 5.76Mbps up
HSPA+ (3.5G/H+): Theoretical limit of 84Mbps down, 22Mbps up, but will support 168Mbps down.

I had the same problem with my previous service provider.
Wht ROM you r on?
Go to settings and then device options.
Check screenshot.
Change the settings to c if you get a solution.
Swyped From My Flavoured JellyCore.
What ROM are you using? if your on stock ICS, then perhaps you can try some options below.
1. See if you have WCDMA only is chosen, under Settings >More>Mobile Networks Settings
2. Try to check your modem firmware? LRK1, LB1 or etc.. you can download and flash another another modem.
3. I'm not sure if this app will work but you can give it a shot. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DEsInByb3Zpc2lvbi5uZXRzcGVlZC5vcHRpbWl6ZXIiXQ.. It has some tweaks on it.
and Lastly.. Do nothing.. Your carrier might just be experiencing some network outage this time only, and on their end and therefore it should not be treated as a problem on your phone itself. Don't fret. It'll soon be fix (by your carrier itself).

before I got my phone I read about all the 3G problems people were having.
when I first got my nexus, there were no issues at all. no dropped service or connection.
I'm in a 3G area (looked at tmobile coverage map) and I see no reason for this to be happening.
my phone will show that I have 3G connection (UMTS) but when trying to use anything that requires a connection, it fails.
on the other hand, HSDPA network works fine and so does EDGE.
I got my phone over a month ago and this hasn't started happening until recently.
I'm always on EDGE network now and if I'm not on EDGE, I have to be on HSDPA in order for me a to send messages or use data connection.
UMTS is broken and does not give connection. I want to call HTC and see if they can replace it but I don't think they'd do it.
anyone else have the 3G problem? I'm sure a lot do, but is it only with UMTS?
This is not the "3g issue" everyone talks about. This sounds like you are either having network issues in your area, or did you flash a new ROM to your phone recently?

I had been on a CM test build and hadn't flashed a rom in a long time.
network issues isn't the problem because my friends G1 yesterday had 3G and I had EDGE.
I don't think it's my SIM card either, not even two years old.
I'm tempted to call HTC because this happened out of nowhere after a good month of no problems.
99% of the time it's a carrier issue.
When the number of users on a carrier grows or jumps on the carrier, the tower signal shrinks it's radius. And if you're in two competing tower areas, then your signal might drop/fluctuate because the phone is swapping between them.
Nothing the phone can do about it. It's probably your carrier issue.
how can that be when my friends right next to me have full bars and 3G while I'm on edge?

Change your settings to WCDMA only then.
I've tried and all I get is no connection or occasionally hsdpa.

I have experienced something like this. I am unrooted and few weeks after having the phone I would see a 3g symbol but be unable to access any data. It has been very frustrating once but generally it kicks in again with a reboot.
A similar issue since installing froyo is that the stock browser wouldn't connect. Other browsers and applications could access data but the stock browser couldn't. It started again later but I now use xscope.
I love android but I hope that the continue to work on its stability because it could be improved

so is your 3G working now? I'm just going to call HTC and see what happens.
I've tried WCDMA only, flashing a radio, and anything I can find on the web but no luck.

what should I search for? I'm not familiar with modding the build.prop.
It keeps on switching between the 3 every few seconds which is not really a normal thing I think?
Also I'm supposed to have 4G in my city but I've only had it in 2 or 3 places which makes me think I have real bad reception?
It's a new phone, but I think it may have been repaired 2 times because there are 3 stickers saying "do not accept is seal has been opened"
I haven't had the chance to root and change roms as of yet because I haven't got a laptop right now.
Those stickers coming with phone, warranty purpose, it's good to have them.
Symbol 3G mean WCDMA network connected, data not active,
H & H+ is shown when any of installed apps using data...
Try change Network settings to 4G only if you prefer it.

I had a normal S3 before switching to this one and never had connection problems like this.. Whenever it switches between the 3 signals I have to wait for my browser to load a page for example. It's really flickering fast between all data symbols.
I used to have a steady H+ connection on my old S3
Try to change modem.... not much else you can do about...

Hello guys,
So I just bought my HTC one about a week ago. I'm.. pretty much in love with it. I haven't had time to sit down and room and customize it and such, but plan to soon.
However, i'm having an issue with it. The phone shows that it is connected to 4G and has full signal. However, it will not load anything whatsoever. Sometimes it works... but most of the time it does not, and I cannot figure out why. I also really hate that I can't manually toggle JUST the 4G on/off without diving into the settings. Waiting for the phone to decide to search for a 4G signal is frustrating. I'm somewhere I know has 4G signal, but the phone takes a long time before it realizes.
Is there anyone else who has these issues or someone who knows what I can do about them?
Thanks

I've actually been having that issue for a week or so. No matter what ROM I'm running. Very strange. Maybe Sprint is "upgrading" their towers....lol. I'm in VA, are you in VA by chance?

Maybe someone can answer this better but 4G doesn't have "bars" the bars are for your 3G do you may show full bars but still have a weak 4G signal.
The best way I have found to address this is if your connected to 4G and you aren't able to connect to anything go into your mobile data settings and temporarily switch to CDMA only, or toggle CDMA then switch back to CDMA/LTE this will cause your signal to cycle and you may be able to browse using the 4G.

Datdude, no i am in Texas.
Konfuzion, thats disappointing. Toggling the signals through the settings is really clunky and always ends up with my phone having no signal at all for a couple minutes while it cycles everything. Is there an easier way? Maybe a widget I can get somewhere to do it more quickly?
Also, I dislike that I have no representation of how strong a 4g signal I have. I don't want the phone to tell me I have signal where there is none. Is there a ROM that will show this, maybe?
All in all, while I love the phone, I'm beginning to regret the upgrade. 4g data is very important to me as I use my phone as a mobile modem for work. In places (the exact same chairs) where I had strong enough WiMax 4g signal to do what I wanted, even to play latency restricted games like a MOBA, I can't get the LTE to do anything. I really don't want to have to downgrade, just to keep access to an inferior 4g signal, even if it's more reliable.
Bump for help?
Check out SignalCheck Pro, it will show you your true 1x, 3g and LTE signal strength. I just got my One on Monday and haven't had any 4g issues here in NC.

You can also check your LTE reception by going to Settings->About->Network. Anything above -120dBm RSRP is useable, though if it gets much lower than that, the signal becomes tenuous. I think the lowest I've held onto was -124dBm.
Also, I run into this problem every few days around Chicago. The data connection just seems to stall. The fastest way I found to fix it is to toggle Airplane mode with the widget that I keep on my home screen.

Thanks guys for your responses! I went ahead and bout Signal Check Pro and although I don't understand all the numbers, my RSRP is around -105 to -110 at the moment, so it looks like i'm on the lower end of the connectively spectrum. Hopefully this app will help me better understand when my 4G is and isn't going to work.

Happens to me too, we just got lte where I work, same thing still happens :/
happends to me also
Glad that I am not alone. Use to listen to Tune-In while on the road and now it cuts out for a few seconds every other minute or so. Sometimes I reach a stretch of road that I have no data. Also turn on Scout and it constantly says network connection has been lost, and network connection has been restored.
All the time the signal bars show that I have service.
Took my phone to the Sprint store today and all they did was a data reset, 786 I believe. This is the second one that I have had data signal issues with, the first one they said that it failed a radio test one and they replaced it. Also my girlfriend's phone seems to do the same thing. Never had issues like this with my HTC EVO LTE. Might actually reactivate and see if I can isolate to the phone verse the network.
Now the question is phone (which I would tend to be the case), or the network. If it is the phone, is it every phone issue or a bad batch?

Can't detect or detects but doesn't connect?
Check the APN list, you might need to select / reselect / add APN.

Like genieass said It might be network related. I only offer a suggestion.
Did you try Settings > Wireless and Networks > Tap "More" > Internet Settings? Just tap it and wait a few seconds
The phone cannot detect 3g networks. 2g is fine 2g data is fine. But when I switch to wcdma or GSM/wcdma on network mode it cannot detect 3g networks at all. It just shows no network even though 3g is available. Trying manual searching for 3g networks is also showing no 3g networks.

I am speaking of data. If you are talking about proper 3g, I might have misled you. You seem to be looking for 3g calls etc? if so, pl ignore me.
My connection is 2g, data is 3g. I am on H+ most times. Firmware updates are faster OTA, 3G than wifi. Which connects thru a 512 mbps dataone adsl line.

The phone simply cannot detect 3g networks. The data part and Internet settings comes after the phone detects 3g networks. So no its cannot be done. When I am on wcdma only setting the phone doesn't show network ie I am on emergency mode. If I try manual searching of networks it doesnot show any 3g network even though I am in a coverage area with multiple 3g networks.

Open up dialpad and type in " *#*#4636#*#* ". Inside "phone settings" you might be able to adjust to some options which might work.
Restart your phone and confirm that the modification has been lost.
Unfortunately it is reset every bootup. So you might want to fallback to 4.4.2 (hack, or 4.3) and wait for solution from Sony.
Post the result of this to Sony Mobile Official Forum might help. Anyways, please report back after trying each option.:good:
After my update to 4.4.4, I lost the ability to access the Internet over my mobile network. I had full signal and even hdpda/hspda+ sometimes but no Internet at all. I realize its not the exact same issue but they might be related. I found out that my APN had been changed when I updated, so I hit settings>more>Internet settings and it fixed the problem. It didnt need to be connected to the Internet to do it either, it just worked on the same network connection that wasnt giving Internet. Hopefully this works for you too, since this caused me endless headaches when it happened.

Yeah but for me no signal when in WCDMA mode just shows emergency mode but when i switch to gsm mode it shows full signal. My APN are automatically downloaded every time i insert my sim card in the phone so APNs are fine asthey are auto downloaded on 2g. But no 3g signal even in full signal strength area. Seems like I have to do repair by PCC which i am trying to avoid as my internet connection is slow. I'll post if the repair is helpful. I was just trying to know if anyone else have the same problem or not.

If all suggestions here failed, then I am quite certain that either your network provider has a problem or your phone has a FW issue. Provided that you dd not fall the phone carelessly and damaged the modem, i would recommend you go search on google for this issue with your network provider on the search keywords. If no luck, Just downgrade to 4.4.2, then report to Sony as a bug.
Anyways, Good Luck
