Connection keeps switching (H, H+, 3G) - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

It keeps on switching between the 3 every few seconds which is not really a normal thing I think?
Also I'm supposed to have 4G in my city but I've only had it in 2 or 3 places which makes me think I have real bad reception?
It's a new phone, but I think it may have been repaired 2 times because there are 3 stickers saying "do not accept is seal has been opened"
I haven't had the chance to root and change roms as of yet because I haven't got a laptop right now.

Those stickers coming with phone, warranty purpose, it's good to have them.
Symbol 3G mean WCDMA network connected, data not active,
H & H+ is shown when any of installed apps using data...
Try change Network settings to 4G only if you prefer it.

I had a normal S3 before switching to this one and never had connection problems like this.. Whenever it switches between the 3 signals I have to wait for my browser to load a page for example. It's really flickering fast between all data symbols.
I used to have a steady H+ connection on my old S3

Try to change modem.... not much else you can do about...

Problem with my Nexus One

3G and H are both different types of 3G. Some ROM will distinguish between them, other ROMs show them both as 3G. H is faster than standard 3G, so you don't have a problem...
Edit: OK, that's weird. My response appears before your question, and the time is wrong...?

Hi,
I recently brought my Nexus One for repairs because my phone would restart automatically after my phone gets to hot. After I got my phone back from repairs, they must have fixed the problem. But then another problem started! I have problems with my Nexus One to connect to the 3G network in my area.
My Nexus One sees the network. But when I try to use 3G it looks like it tries to connect to it but the network doesn't seem to respond. Then sometimes my phone switches from a "3G" to an "H" and that works always.
Does anybody know what the problem might be? I can't barely send text messages, place calls or use the Internet! I hardly think that its a problem with my network provider considering that my brothers G1 phone works wihtout any problem!

If that was the case, he wouldn't be seeing H. If he's connecting on H, then he's all good...

Check that you're using correct APN for your carrier.
My phone doesn't always switch to the H. Sometimes it sits at 3G and it seems that the network doesn't respond. Sometimes when I use WIFI it takes a few minutes until the WIFI starts working, even though the phone indicated that it connected to WIFI correctly. I was using the standard Android 2.2 ROM from Google but I decided to put on CyanogenMOD a few weeks ago but its still the same problem. I guess I'll just have to deal with it...

No data transfer over 3G, only H+. Insight needed.

I've had this issue for a few weeks now and I can't think of how it's started. Basically when my phone says it's connected to 3g, I receive no data. I have to switch my data on and off a few times until it connects to H+ to receive data. While on H+ it does one of two things stays connected and may swap back to 3g when nothing is transferring and pop back to H+ when data transfer is requested or pop back to 3g and i get no data again until I switch on and off a few times. As you can imagine this is extremely annoying and hard to maintain steady connection needed by certain apps and such.
I first thought it could be the doing of a certain tower but I have tested this on far off areas and I'm getting the same issue. As you can imagine, there are some areas with only 3g so there is times I can't get data at all. So here is my plea to the greater knowledge of the community: any have any idea why this is happening and/or how this can be remedied? It seems odd that my antenna/radio can only be faulty towards one frequency. Or is there something else at hand here? Thanks in advance.

3G is "normal" 3G,
HSPA is enhanced 3G or "3G.5" and
HSPA+ is even faster HSPA.
Both are UMTS 3G technologies. H+ simply means you are capable of getting faster speeds.
HSPA (3G/H): Theoretical limit of 14Mbps down, 5.76Mbps up
HSPA+ (3.5G/H+): Theoretical limit of 84Mbps down, 22Mbps up, but will support 168Mbps down.

I had the same problem with my previous service provider.
Wht ROM you r on?
Go to settings and then device options.
Check screenshot.
Change the settings to c if you get a solution.
Swyped From My Flavoured JellyCore.
What ROM are you using? if your on stock ICS, then perhaps you can try some options below.
1. See if you have WCDMA only is chosen, under Settings >More>Mobile Networks Settings
2. Try to check your modem firmware? LRK1, LB1 or etc.. you can download and flash another another modem.
3. I'm not sure if this app will work but you can give it a shot. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DEsInByb3Zpc2lvbi5uZXRzcGVlZC5vcHRpbWl6ZXIiXQ.. It has some tweaks on it.
and Lastly.. Do nothing.. Your carrier might just be experiencing some network outage this time only, and on their end and therefore it should not be treated as a problem on your phone itself. Don't fret. It'll soon be fix (by your carrier itself).

4G Data issues

Hello guys,
So I just bought my HTC one about a week ago. I'm.. pretty much in love with it. I haven't had time to sit down and room and customize it and such, but plan to soon.
However, i'm having an issue with it. The phone shows that it is connected to 4G and has full signal. However, it will not load anything whatsoever. Sometimes it works... but most of the time it does not, and I cannot figure out why. I also really hate that I can't manually toggle JUST the 4G on/off without diving into the settings. Waiting for the phone to decide to search for a 4G signal is frustrating. I'm somewhere I know has 4G signal, but the phone takes a long time before it realizes.
Is there anyone else who has these issues or someone who knows what I can do about them?
Thanks

I've actually been having that issue for a week or so. No matter what ROM I'm running. Very strange. Maybe Sprint is "upgrading" their towers....lol. I'm in VA, are you in VA by chance?

Maybe someone can answer this better but 4G doesn't have "bars" the bars are for your 3G do you may show full bars but still have a weak 4G signal.
The best way I have found to address this is if your connected to 4G and you aren't able to connect to anything go into your mobile data settings and temporarily switch to CDMA only, or toggle CDMA then switch back to CDMA/LTE this will cause your signal to cycle and you may be able to browse using the 4G.

Datdude, no i am in Texas.
Konfuzion, thats disappointing. Toggling the signals through the settings is really clunky and always ends up with my phone having no signal at all for a couple minutes while it cycles everything. Is there an easier way? Maybe a widget I can get somewhere to do it more quickly?
Also, I dislike that I have no representation of how strong a 4g signal I have. I don't want the phone to tell me I have signal where there is none. Is there a ROM that will show this, maybe?
All in all, while I love the phone, I'm beginning to regret the upgrade. 4g data is very important to me as I use my phone as a mobile modem for work. In places (the exact same chairs) where I had strong enough WiMax 4g signal to do what I wanted, even to play latency restricted games like a MOBA, I can't get the LTE to do anything. I really don't want to have to downgrade, just to keep access to an inferior 4g signal, even if it's more reliable.
Bump for help?
Check out SignalCheck Pro, it will show you your true 1x, 3g and LTE signal strength. I just got my One on Monday and haven't had any 4g issues here in NC.

You can also check your LTE reception by going to Settings->About->Network. Anything above -120dBm RSRP is useable, though if it gets much lower than that, the signal becomes tenuous. I think the lowest I've held onto was -124dBm.
Also, I run into this problem every few days around Chicago. The data connection just seems to stall. The fastest way I found to fix it is to toggle Airplane mode with the widget that I keep on my home screen.

Thanks guys for your responses! I went ahead and bout Signal Check Pro and although I don't understand all the numbers, my RSRP is around -105 to -110 at the moment, so it looks like i'm on the lower end of the connectively spectrum. Hopefully this app will help me better understand when my 4G is and isn't going to work.

Have the same issue when I'm on cdma/lte mode, then I switch to cdma auto, the signal becomes fine.
I don't have the lte coverage in my area.

I have lte in most areas but where I'm at for this week there is no lte. Though as I'm sitting here it will lose all signal randomly for just a few seconds then come back. Happens at least once every few minutes

Happens to me too, we just got lte where I work, same thing still happens :/
happends to me also
Glad that I am not alone. Use to listen to Tune-In while on the road and now it cuts out for a few seconds every other minute or so. Sometimes I reach a stretch of road that I have no data. Also turn on Scout and it constantly says network connection has been lost, and network connection has been restored.
All the time the signal bars show that I have service.
Took my phone to the Sprint store today and all they did was a data reset, 786 I believe. This is the second one that I have had data signal issues with, the first one they said that it failed a radio test one and they replaced it. Also my girlfriend's phone seems to do the same thing. Never had issues like this with my HTC EVO LTE. Might actually reactivate and see if I can isolate to the phone verse the network.
Now the question is phone (which I would tend to be the case), or the network. If it is the phone, is it every phone issue or a bad batch?

Signal

Does anyone have any suggested paths to get better reception out of this phone? It is so bad and sporadic constantly toggling between 2/3/4g, signal up and down, etc. I've tried multiple different firmwares

signal works fine for me too.
The signal's same or better than my Nexus 4 on 3G. I usually keep LTE turned off because that signal in my area is pretty weak and I'm usually using WiFi anyway. Plus, a weak LTE signal (or switching back and forth from 3G to 4G) is a battery drainer.
in my case, Z3C has weak signal reception than Z1C on CM11 :/ in my sister house i had weak but i had signal, i loose signal sometimes in pocket, but everywhere else outside of pocket signal was OK on the Z1C CM11 but on stock firmware Z3C there is no signal all the time i had to go outside home and search for network manually... i`m using only 2G mode to save battery
Did anyone notice in the settings (access point names), there is att phone and sony gprs. The sony gprs is selected by default and there is nothing in the settings (only mcc and mnc). When you select att phone, the phone doesn't work. Could this have something to do with it?

i think it's just with your phone since you're using it on ATT. try entering ATT's APN settings. I'm using it on tmobile and signal is fine and it only shows one APN for me. I don't have that sony one you're talking about.
