[Q] Dual Booting w/ Safestrap - Motorola Droid Bionic

Hey guys, I have a question for any android geniuses out there that might have an answer. Will it/ Is it possible to dual boot Gingerbread as my main OS on Safestrap and have the latest ICS leak/ official ICS (when it is released) as my secondary OS?

I don't think so. Safestrap uses the same Kernel on the safe side that's on the nonsafe side. You have to have an ICS Kernel to run a leak. It may be possible with kexec once it is further developed, but I'm not sure.

May be possible? How so?

As I'm sure you already know the Bionic has a locked bootloader so we can't run custom kernels on it. Some really smart people developed a way around this called kexec. Kexec will let the device boot to a certain point past the security checks and then take over and boot into a different custom kernel giving us the ability to run custom kernels. Just Google it and you can find a lot of info on it. As of now it is still very young in it's development. Hashcode, Dhacker, and possibly more developers that I dont know of are working on it and are making great progress. Safestrap 2.11 currently supports it and we have a few roms that utilize it. The reason I say it may be possible in the future is because with Kexec and safestrap you can boot a custom kernel on the safe side. But I am not a developer and I could be way off on this.

what will change with your kernel?
For now, just optimizations that come with upgrading kernels. I believe the Droid 3 and Droid Bionic use the same CPU as this phone, so I'll be monitoring patches coming from that community as they'll have more devs.
the link to the kernel download has been removed
the processor is a 1000 mHz texas instruments dual core processor, arm7 i believe
It's the OMAP 4430.

whatever hapened to this kernel?
It got pulled because the chipset's were different or something to that effect.

Not true. OP updated. I need feedback!!!
to go back to a previous post in this thread, what have you done to this kernel to vary it from stock?
at the moment, not much. I have finally cleaned up LG's source to the point where it will actually build. If this build works as intended with no bugs/errors, I will move forward with patching it up to a newer kernel. there have been a crazy number of optimizations for omap processors in recent kernels.
Its not flashing. It aborts during install.

working on a way to pack this for updating. apparently koush's anykernel updater doesn't work for this device. my bad
have you modified the script to flash it straight to the partition instead of to "boot?"
Could you add ADB root to it? Please?
Any specific reason for not using the CM7 cosmo kernel?
Yes.. kernels must match up with lib etc and bin files to work and the cm7 files are not easily swapped into LG rom

Also because the kernel on cyanogens github doesn't compile.

(Q) dual boot

What about dual booting to boot muti roms
You would need custom kernel or custom recovery.

Like doomed or thrillz kernal? What else would i need, want to have selfkang on dual boot
Actually, you'd need a custom bootloader. Not custom like someone already made it. Custom like custom.

No, not a custom bootloader, but a recovery that is custom. You can change or add a script that manages what rom is booting. I have made the roms for x10 and doomlord made the recovery to for them on a locked bootloader. And the init of kernel needs to,be tweaked to match both roms

I HAD AN X10 BUT DOOM haven't made a dual boot recovery for us..you meant boot manager?
zhidzu made the main one for everyone to play with and a few of us used it/tweaked it to make dual roms when camera wasn't working well on gingerbread roms. z made it easy with the chargemon script (doom is a master of scripts) that could be tweaked to do all kind of things
Their was a miui one. Superaosp. Cm7 one
Z is da man of x10 world... But doom did a lot too with ramdisk, scripts, reboot widget, kernels, Boot menu, and more

ICS ROM's

Hey guys, with all these new ICS ROM's emerging...Im trying to get an understanding as to which one is the most ideal one. I know some have camera working, some don't....is it worth updating, or too many bugs?
Thanks
Use safe strap. You can test out the roms while still having your main rom on your phone

This is not a good place to park this thread.
But there aren't many choices for ICS roms...
ICS4Bionic would be my choice
I recommend th3orys aokp rom. Def runs the best in my bionic and has the most customizing features with the rom control. Front camera doesn't work though as with any ics rom on the bionic.

custom rom running spb mobile shell

wondering what's the best rom for my droid 3 if I'm using spb mobile shell? I never done a custom rom before but I've heard they get rid of unnecessary apps and run faster. is there a rom with just the basics nothing fancy?

Right now all our roms are based of the Droid 3 stock software (due to a locked bootloader). Hashcode is working on a special system/method that will let us use full roms . As a result rom development has kind of paused until he is finished. I recommend any 2.3 based rom except Liberty's. He hasn't updated his rom in about 8 months. Team Haters, Maverick and Steel Droid are the most current ginger based roms at the moment.

Unfortunately it's running on the old 890 and it has caused problems for some.
Use Maverick. Its the most stable rom i have ever used. People say eclipse is fast but i had bugs every once in awhile with eclipse, while not major at all, i never had a bug with maverick. Also the dev keeps it updated with the latest updates.
I'm running mavROM v4.5 with TSF shell and it works great

I second the MavRom recommendation especially as a stock blur replacement. I'm running Mavrom in my /systemorig partition as a daily rom, which leaves the safe partition avalable to test the more bleeding edge stuff like kexec CM9
Thanks for the advice, I found the mavrom download but couldn't find hashcode's safestrap v1.06, but I found v2.01, can I use this or not?

I don't want to go back to 100% stock GB but is there a way to Rom it I mean I see kexec being mentioned. Thanks and hope you all have a great day. I'm a noob to this whole safestrap ordeal. I've ported to devices and all, once I get situated with this device look forward to ports.

As mentioned before, unfortunately, you cannot flash older versions of Android to the D4 via RSDLite. As for kexec, I think this would work in theory, but the kexec kernel we have now is JB. So, you would have to create a GB kexec kernel first (maybe just clone the original D4 GB kernel?) and then insert that into a stock D4 GB ROM or an older D4 custom ROM like Eclipse GB.
Good luck!
