Titel is changed. I thing it is impossible that the people see this link.
There are 750 votes for the open bootloader. 1000 are needed!
Maybe we can move something and get the open bootloader sooner:thumbup:
Even ten thousand signers would not change anything. LG thinks a locked bootloader is great and won't release any unlock.

They will need an unlock procedure for an LG Optimus Nexus G, so maybe they will release an universal tool or procedure

You knwo what I bought myself a S3, I love LG and their designs but I had to do my research better instead of my instincts, with this policy they will sure lose a lot of their future clients. I love my freedom and I do what I want to do and if they are open minded they should give us the possibility to unlock the bootloader.
Anyway thx for all your great support as Dexter, I wish I could have keep this phone but I cant live with a locked bootloader and different roms and kernel to try.
Btw I still have my LG for sale and is a pain in the ass to sell this phone I can say so most ppl not have a good eye in this product bcz of the updates even I had already two updates when bought it and probably that Jelly bean will come soon too with their corporation with Nexus now. If LG still not have an image problem then they sure not will stay long in the bussines of smarthphones too bad.

+1 !!!!!!
I don't know why they changed their mind from O2X to 4X HD, but it was definitively a wrong decision...
A locked bootloader is the only possible decision as it is part of the Android security concept (and I believe necessary on new devices since Android 4.0)
See my post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32347996&postcount=108
Android gets professional and wants to be suitable for business usage.
So data security becomes more important. Without a locked bootloader there is not much security.

So on private phones security is not needed ?
Account logins, Wifi paswords, images, other data ....
Locked bootloader is a good thing for most users.
But damn LG has to provide a way to unlock for us if they are not able to serve updates for this device.

i believe adb can extract most of that info even with a locked bootloader..
either you're trolling or you dunno what a bootloader is.

Of course, but you must enable Debugging in Android to use adb which breaks almost all security.
You really need to understand how Android works:
I suggest reading a bit on developer.android.com or source.android.com
especially here: http://source.android.com/tech/security/
example: even the FBI was not able to break Android lockscreen:
http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2012/03/fbi-android-phone-lock/
I'm aware that here on XDA nearly nobody cares about this, as everyone has unlocked bootloader, CWM installed and adb enabled.
My point is that manufacturers have to sell the phones with locked bootloader for security reasons, but also allow users to unlock it (together with a factory reset).

I don't get why there should be a factory reset. I've had that on a friend's Wildfire S: You can't have root without unlocking the bootloaderand wiping the phone but can't take a backup of your data because you don't have root. It's not a problem if you unlock it directly after buying, but there are so many people who just use their phone for a while and then find out they can do more with an unlocked bootloader. And for all those, their data is gone forever.
A locked bootloader (together with other components like system encryption, lockscreen etc.) prevents someone who finds / steals a phone from dumping the data.
If he could unlock the phone without loosing the data, he would be able to dump the data (e.g. by flashing CWM with fastboot). So this security feature would be useless.
So if someone unlocks the bootloader all data is gone.

you do realize 4x has an adb mode that doesn't even need bootup?
it wont give you access to su but its enough to get into data and dump all personal files.

it has been more than 2 weeks and i'm getting impatient about the lag after phone wakes, the lag in calls and other apps and mainly the camera. this is a serious issue as i dont remember paying for a faulty device, and im not even in the country to have this paperweight replaced with some other smart phone.
please give me an update, or request an update on this situation. and if your next words are 'unfortunately i can't help you', i think, unfortunately, you should be fired and I need a contact email for your superior.

Hi guys.
I just found a method to install ota_update.zip (generated from aosp android build)
place ota_update.zip on /cache/ota_update.zip
then adb:
Code:
adb shell am start -a com.lge.hiddenmenu -n com.lge.hiddenmenu/.HiddenMenu
an activity comes up, go to Image Updater, then press Connect (need live internet connection), it will take several seconds
and then press Update.
Tested ONLY CODE!!!! IT MEANS THE CODE USING OTA_UPDATE.ZIP INSTALLER SHOULD WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I start testing, i will write that update zip with runnable script to make full map,(BOOT PARTITION FLASHABLE?) and logs.
If this code works in live really, we can make a update.zip flasher in recovery as well.(because if need to test(ported roms lot tests.) i don't want to put original kdz back and then reflash zip
(if you press update without put file on cache partition, it is asking for file.)
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE ANY HARM YOU MAKE YOURSELF WITH YOUR DEVICE.
Let's discuss guys. And if it helped please hit me a thanks!
i think with the zip we need an original one first related to update-binary
will my phone soft brick or hard brick if any thing goes wrong
no signature verification?
I'm down to be a tester.
i would be happy to test if needed. thankyou
bish
need to get a factorially signed zip. that can be from official ota.
and sorry guys but i really think that we need jtag.
need to disassembly the phone, put a wire between a special point and gnd, that will enable usb WRITE
i already got working nvflash in APX mode, but no success to start write anything.
So JTAG, or we need to charck/hack the official LG updater, what updates kdz, but there will be signature problem again.
This method works, already tested by me. but without proper signatures recovery will bump error screen and stuck there without sh exec.
i stop trying to hack p880 until i can't get a proper internet connection.
i made an usb driver for Optimus 4x to get nvflash work in apx mode, still no usb write.
weird.
No way to obtain a "copy" of lg`s signature and use it?

if i feel that it was within my capability then id be willing to take the risk, No pain No gain

Depends how handy you are but, its not very hard.
I already disassembled mine, just for curiosity
but I won't do any crazy bridge, jumper (whatever...) based in one "maybe" or "might works" and let's try it.

I have found something in the official manual of the P880 refering to JTAG on page 144, 162, 167, 168, 175.
I also found something intereressting on page 124 and following, especially page 131.
There you can read, that a "USB Mega Lock" is needed "for security reasons"
Its all about the "B2B LGMobile Support Tool" and the "LGFlashTool".
I don't know much about this stuff, so i would recommend that everybody who is interested read this by his own.

Hi everyone! My contract is ending and I just ordered new P-880 being aware that bootloader is locked and not cracked yet. I couldn't find anything even close to spec of Optimus / Swift 4X HD for similar price. Since i remember i was modding my phones starting from v-clay on Siemens MC60, Anyway... I'm ashamed of myself because price-tag won over principles, so I'm willing to help in cracking this puppy. I've got good understanding of Linux OSes (I use them daily), unfortunately I'm not so good in low level stuff (HEX, assembly etc.), but I'm willing to take risk to the some extent. So lets see what We can do.
Cheers!

I'm angry. I paid 510 euros at start and here's what I have now: Android 4.0, three amazing games lags a lot (Most Wanted, GTA III and even GTA Vice City, which I CAN'T buy officially at Play Store), no Jelly Bean. So if LG will bring Jelly Bean + Unlocked bootloader, Vice City will be playable, I will be happy. If not, my next phone will be indeed not LG. I'm even now considering about Sony Xperia Z.

Not trying to "hate" but I have talked to some of the best unlock devs there are and they are having extreme trouble with getting the bootloader unlocked. Sue me if I'm skeptical that someone, who hasn't really done much of anything for the AHD (no offense), unlocked the bootloader.
If he's truly unlocked, then all he needs to do is snap a photo showing that.
He hasn't produced one yet, so we're all skeptical. Thread should probably be closed until OP can show some proof.

Not trying to Hate, but if he really unlocked the bootloader, maybe he could post a simple photo of an Atrix HD with the unlocked logo boot screen (or something similar) or the Fastboot screen, but i dont know, just an opinion... not trying to troll or something, i'm think is almost unbelievable that someone has found a method to unlock one of the most difficult locked bootloaders on Motorola... like the every rumor or hoax, or news, we want pictures, pictures can say more than 1000 words...just my opinion, not trying to attack or something.
BTW, if the bootloader really gets unlocked, i get rid of my RAZR i in the fastest time possible and get an Atrix HD (I smell CyanogenMod 10.1 or 11 on the future )

Congratulations for unlocking the bootloader, this is a great sucess for the Atrix HD development and for us... i'm going to try to buy a cheap Atrix HD because my RAZR i is annoying my with his problems and I need a fully funtional phone ( my RAZR has earspeaker issues and vibration problems) and I want custom Roms now... because i'm a flashalcoholic lol
Bootloader locked Z's - will there ever be any luck for us, or are we pretty much stuck for the lifespan of our devices ? Because I know that for other devices that ship with locked bootloaders, there's a little hope from what I've understood, as the community is making an effort to bypass their devices respective bootloaders.
However, I'm unsure about XpZ because of Sony allowing unlocking directly on unbranded devices, that's why I'm asking - can we who ****ed up with our purchase of a branded device actually hope for something, or are we better off selling our devices and replacing them with generic devices in the foreseeable future ?
( my carrier didn't lock my Arc and S, Z caught me completely offguard, I feel cheated and stolen from )
No hope whatsoever. Bad choice.

i think with the release of the us tmo version there is a good chance that this can happen. The exploit would be the same for all most likely

Wait, are you saying that the bootloader security has been broken for the C6606?
If so, amazing news! If not, I'm not sure why the release of another variant would make the security being broken more likely

No, the tmo version was just released (sort off) not available in tmobile stores just sony right now. the bootloader is locked on the 6606 and if any locked variant is broken first it will be this one...(other locked variants should be able to use the same exploit)
Given, this is all assumed and nothing has been done...
Ah, so you just mean that it's more likely that more people will be working on this then? Fair enough

Hang on, this is for an unlockable bootloader? As in unlock not allowed?
My understanding was that there was no way to do this - period.

My understanding is that the security is very strict, with multiple checks involved, all dependent on each other. It seems to be very unlikely that it will be broken, according some discussions I've read in several threads here.
You can never say never with these things though, as there may be and often is something that the designers of the security overlooked or never even thought of. It's not as if locked bootloaders and security haven't been overcome before on other devices after all

I read that you got xperia Z,Hope to see your kernels soon.
Kexec is a possibility buy nobody has successfully built it yet for xz. Doomlord I believe has a mini loader as one of his many projects but it will require a lot of work and I don't believe devs see this as priority as there are so many unlockable devices out there. Mine included annoyingly. So short answer is there is hope, but don't expect anything soon. And for completeness sake, the Motorola hack doesn't apply.

Hey dear Community,
sorry but i translate my question with translate.google.com
And it's like this.
I bought the Alcatel Idol 4 me a few weeks ago.
Super price-performance ratio.
Now I have only the problem that I never in large Internet find a way to root my phone.
I tried already all I know Tools.
I also Kingoroot written an email with the request to find a solution.
I guess that this will take longer so again here the question.
anyone of you an opportunity that Alcatel Idol 4 (6055K) to root?
urgently need a root.
Dear greetings and thanks in advance
Your Jakami99
Would be keen to know too, also a idol 4 (non s) user.

It's a brand new device. I don't think many devs have it at this point.
I think this now impossible. Bootloader fully locked. Unique what we can - search hole in security system of Android 6.0.1. If we found as minimum temporary root - we can unlock bootloader. And forever... Warranty void permamently! So we have no right to mistake.

Yepp, no root...
I seen that my firmware modified (don't know WHO?), but no root...
Probably.... I lost my life, I lost all! Good bye my passwords and google account!
Good bye my all 10000$ that I managed.
I lost my payment card formally. My money can be just fade! In one beautiful day!
"#### killer, where you?! If you want kill me - do it! My life no more cost! "
I hope this can be rooted at some point!
most likely in 2-3 months
I'll be keeping my eyes open. It really is a nice device. If there were some way to switch the placement of the boom key and power button, it would be ten times better though.

hi
As i noticed , in developer option , you can switch OEM unlocking , which allow bootloader to be unlocked.
So i don't think that is gonna be so hard to do, just patience until someone who know alot start to make some way to root Idol 4/4s
I'm pretty sure the OEM unlock has no function currently as we can't pass fastboot commands to the phone just yet.

There is. You can actually set the boom key to turn on the display, then all you need is the following app to turn the display off:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alinberce.standbytouch
Edit: I just made a post to explain this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/idol-4s/how-to/guide-to-switch-power-boom-key-t3465288
Root is available (on XDA)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/idol-4s/help/howto-idol-4-6055-installing-twrp-t3486077
Thanks to DeckerSU!
I know that the creation of that HowTo is not new but maybe somebody didnt see it.

Yes, DeckerSU has created a TWRP recovery which allows SU to be flashed. Check the forums for how to root.
I'm sorry but are we just gonna let this pass without comment?
