HTC HD7 flash help wanted - HD7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
I have an HTC HD7 phone, which was given to me (actually to my mobile phone magazine) about two years ago for writing review. It is a pre-production modell with test OS. It worked for some time but last year broke down, and I was not able to recover it.
Now I decided to give it one more try.
This time I tried upgrade through PC (USB connection is ok, but error code 269 at the end of the process - several ROM's tried) and goldcard method as well - but with no success.
This is written in bootloader:
**
Security Unlocked
SPL-0.93.2250.0(105296)
MicroP(LED) 0x06
TOUCH A1(v10)
nothing in green area (though there is card in the phone)
Serial in white area
**
USB connection works, and the phone can be put into USB host mode - so I think it must be some way to bring it back to life.
When I tried goldcard method the following tools were used:
2GD Samsung microSD
Kingston USB 2.0 microSD Flash Memory Card Reader FCR-MRB
Home made Y-cable
I followed the steps described in several threads here in XDA forum, but with no succes. The best result was that after connecting the phone in USB host mode "loading..." appeared on the screen, but some second later an error message came:
No image file!
(serial - written at the bottom)
What can be the problem? The pre-production ROM? Or should I use different microsSD card, card reader, or not home made Y-cable?
If anyone has an idea how to recover my phone please let me know.

My friend, no one from them will help you!! I don't know what exactly XDA is and how this community helps each other...
I registred here 1 week ago, posted 10 questions and asking for help or any guide how to restore/flash PVK key because my SD card is not recognized. I got only one answer
Okey bro. Take a look there:
http://www.mediafire.com/?dwkt6go38ibi2
And if you have EU phone then try to download these images:
1) / WP7 HTC Schubert HD7 /Goldcard DiagImg Roms / EU_1.16.401.01_R5.51.09.06a_22.30.50.09
or
2) / WP7 HTC Schubert HD7 /Goldcard DiagImg Roms / EU_1.69.401.01_R5.54.09.21_22.33b.50.10
Extract to SD and flash it from Hostmode.
Best regards

To install custom roms you need to install darkforce teams rspl/hspl to install custom roms. To use gold card you need to have the right image file, and it needs to be named specifically. Check for both of those in the htc hd7 development section.

Hi,
What is your devices info... Go to, Settings - About - More and post back devices Firmware Revision Number and Bootloader Version.
Are you trying to use the goldcard method to downgrade the devices SPL?

[Guide] Making Goldcard for Stock Rom Flashing on HTC Incredible-S S710e !!!

This Page is a full Tutorial of how you can Make a Goldcard For your Incredible-s s710e to flash a Stock rom in your ANDROID Mobile Phone for Upgrading Purposes. If you try using the RRU Vivo Update exe Then it will give A CID (CID = Carrier ID) Error. To prevent this Error and Flashing the rom For upgrading , Use this Tutorial To Update/Upgrade your Phone's Rom via the "Goldcard" . All the best .
Information :
This guide explains how to Change your default rom to a new Rom by the use of a GoldCard . A GoldCard is a special SD card which, when inserted into your device, allows you to flash RUU files with a different CID to your own device. For example, if you own a Sprint/T-Mobile/Verizon branded device, this will allow you to flash a Generic ROM and Debrand it .When you CID unlock, you are making the phone so its not "locked" to a specific carrier's rom. This method is also applicable to Unbranded (Carrier Unlocked) devices too. I have Performed this Method for UPDATING The HTC Incredible-S S710E ... And it WORKS !!! .
This method is used to Upgrade/Downgrade a Generic Rom version . For example if You have bought a Device with Rom version Froyo and you want to Upgrade it to Gingerbread , Then this method will help you to do so.
This method is to be used on S-ON Devices , S-ON Means that the Nand of the Device is locked and you cannot flash Custom Roms on the device , as it Does NOT Have The Super User root Permissions. If you have a Device with S-OFF Then you can flash Custom Roms to your Device.
If you see "VIVO PVT SHIP S-ON RL" then your device is a locked Device and you cannot root this device. And you cannot load Custom made Roms in your Device . Android developers are trying to unlock the Nand but its not yet done.
How to check wether Your Device Is S-ON / S-OFF :
1. Go to settings tab On your Device and then Go to Power Options and Uncheck the "Fast Boot Option" .
2. Power down the phone (Shutdown) .
3. Now Holding the Volume down button Press the Power Button , You will Boot into the Bootloader Option . On the top of the screen you will find the info .
This Post deals with the Upgrading of the device not Downgrading but i will surely write about Downgrading in my other Post .
Be careful while Using this guide. I will not be responsible for any Bricks . I have tried this and it worked for me fine and on my first try .
What do you need to Perform This Method :
Spare microSD card (2Gb/4Gb/8Gb) , Any brand any speed. I have used MicroSD Card 8Gb Class HC 6 and HC 4 , Both worked For me .
A PC Running windows Operating System (recommended) , 32 Bit/64 Bit Any - No bar . I have used Windows 7 64 Bit and 32 Bit Both and it worked fine on Both .
Latest HTC Sync software installed from the HTC Website. The link can Be found Here : http://www.htc.com/in/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=389&cat=3&dl_id=1073
HTC Sync is required for drivers only .
HxD Hex Editor, available for download in any language comfortable for you from HxD website. The link to the download is Found Here :http://mh-nexus.de/en/downloads.php?product=HxD
HxD Hex Editor used for Creating the Goldcard .
You will need a Goldcard Helper Application installed in your Android Mobile Device (This application Helps you generate a so called "Goldcard" by reading your MMC card's CID and by automatically Reversing it. This information can then be used as input for the PSAS goldcard Generator webpage) . This application can be Downloaded from the Android Market . If you do not have a working internet connection in your android device , or your internet connection on your device is slow (No 3G/Wi-fi) then you can also download it from Here :http://www.ziddu.com/download/15152969/GoldCardHelper_2011-05-28_02-57-14.zip.html
Important : Install the Goldcard Helper tool To the C: Drive of your Android Phone i.e Not on the memory card but in the Phone memory (Consumes Very Little Space).
.Net Framework 2.0 (Usally Inbuilt in Windows 7 64 Bit / 32 Bit .) .
Thats all you need for making The Goldcard .
Step by step instructions : For making the goldcard (Simplest Method - Tried and Tested Working) :
Connect the memory card via the Phone (Use data mode/Disk Drive Mode , Not sync mode ) . Or you can also use a Memory card Reader if you have the MMC SD Card adapter for the Micro SD Card .
Format the microSD card to FAT32 format (Do not format it in NTFS Format ).
Now open the Goldcard helper tool Which you have Already downloaded and installed it in your Mobile device . And click Goldcard Helper Icon In your Menu Screen .
The Goldcard Helper tool Will Automatically generate the Reverse CID Values for your MMC And The C drive of your System. Use the first MMC Card reversed CID Value , NOT the C: Drive Reverse CID Value .
Use the first One "Card: mmc2"
The image Here shown is What you will see when you launch the Goldcard helper tool on your Android Mobile . The CID Value is Reverese in Nature so you need not to reverse it any more . Use The first CID Value (Card:mmc2) . The CID Value will look something like this :
00544b5107943247039c7d22bd005553
Now Visit The Revskills Page Here : http://psas.revskills.de/?q=goldcard
Enter your reversed CID number and create your goldcard image, which will be e-mailed to you on your provided E-mail Adress within 15 Minuites .
Download the Image File sent To your Mail Id And save it in any location You want.
The Downloaded Image from The Email Will Help you to Make your Goldcard For Flashing Your HTC Incredible-S S710E .
Now Open the HxD hex editor. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, you must run the application With administrator Previledges (Run as an Administrator).
Go to the 'Extra' menu and select 'Open Disk'. Under physical disk, select Removable Disk (your microSD card) , now uncheck 'Open as Readonly' and click OK. Note that you should select physical disk NOT the logical disk.
This is important (Choosing the Physical Disk NOT The Logical Disk) else you will not have a Goldcard And your Android Phone will not Load the Image File That you place on your Goldcard MMC !
Now Go to the 'Extra' menu again and select 'Open Disk Image'. Open the goldcard image that you received by email. When prompted for 'Sector Size' , select the option - "selecting 512 (Hard disks/Floppy disks)" and then click OK.
You will see two tabs in the Hex editor window - One is your removable disk, the other is your goldcard image. Click on the goldcard image tab. Go to the 'Edit' menu and choose 'Select All' option then select the 'Edit' menu again and select - 'Copy' . The selected sectors will be selected .
Now Click on the 'Removable Disk' tab. Highlight offset (line) 0000000 to offset (line) 00000170 (include the 0000170 line too), then click on the 'Edit' menu and select 'Paste Write'. It will copy Down on to your Mmc card .
Click on the 'File' menu and select 'Save', accepting the warning.
You now have a goldcard .
To Test what we have done : After doing all the procedure stated above. Remove the memory card and then Insert back the memory card to the Phone Or the MMC Reader and check wether it opens up. If the card Says Format Then The card is not prepared , Repeat the steps above to Prepare your Goldcard .
After the Goldcard is Prepared , Rest is very Simple. Download the Rom You want to flash (I will be Posting the Exact image files extracted From The RRU's in my subsequent post's) . If you want you can Download them from there.
I will also Post How to Use The rom image in a Gold Card to Upgrade Your Android Mobile Device In my later Posts .
HAPPY Upgrading Using the Goldcard . !!!

Hey,
Thanks heaps for your post. I'm sure a lot of users are going to find this extremely useful.
I have a question...may seem silly but just confirming...
So I can use this method to basically rid my phone of carrier "bloat"? and have the latest stock, clean Gingerbread ROM from HTC on my device?
And still be able to update periodically OTA?
Thanks in advance.
(HTC Incredible S "S-ON"...unfortunately...)

Yes . This method will relieve you from using your Carrier specific Rom. You can install any Carrier Rom / Non carrier specific Rom with this method... keeping in mind that the Rom that you are using for flashing is a Stock Rom (Rom provided by HTC - Unadulterated / Unmodified) .
After flashing any Rom of your choice you can get updates OTA . No problems .
This method will Debrand (Relieve you off carrier specific Rom) Your phone's Rom
Thanks heaps for your reply.
One last thing, can I go back to the Carrier ROM? and/or back up my current if I have any dramas?
Thanks again.

Sorry for the late Reply.... I was out of Town ....
Now here is the catch... If you just remove your "Bloat" and again want to go back to bloat in times of need ..... Be sure to flash your firmware with the same version.... That is ... If you have 2.2.1 bloat then upgrade to 2.2.1 Stock rom Withought Bloat....
If you upgrade to 2.3.3 From 2.2.1 Then you cant downgrade.... as 2.3.3 uses a higher radio version than 2.2.1 so downgrade is not possible for the Phones with S-ON ...
Happy flashing with care
Great progress!
I'm guessing this process only works for the S710e and NOT the S710a (Bell)?
Thanks for the effort

The system specs are the same for S710e and the S710a... But if the nand locking differs.... which i suppose is not then i think the phone can be flahed with this technique
Its not that the nand locking plays a part in this process.... as this process does not involve Rooting
It is basically a loading technique for a new rom into the system so.... it supposed to work.... on any Incredible S S710E/A with same hardware straints ...
No worries at all.
Thanks again mate. You've really given me some relief here. I'm hoping removing my carrier bloat will improve battery and stability.
Yeah I'm running 2.3.3....so basically what your saying is, don't go above that with any ROM?
How do I flash my current?
Cheers.

Actually i was saying on the context of your phone having Froyo 2.2.1 ...since you have 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) by default ....then just flash any rom with radio version same or higher than the present radio version of your Rom .....
You might download the rom from the thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033922
And flashing technique from :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003457
Abd shell commanding is not required... thats a diffrent process....
Follow the part of extracting the Rom.zip file from the RRU.exe. And renaming it to PG32IMG.zip ....
And for starting the Flashing.. just hold the power button and the volume down button ..you will enter bootloader mode... Follow the on screen instructions Then its done !!!

Oh ok. Thanks again mate. So the base-band has to be the same or higher as well as the firmware version? Sorry if I'm a little slow with this, I'm all over other stuff but have just come into the Android world and even at this stage am loving it...just wish I could root this phone instead...sooo much easier and so much more freedom... haha
And I can download the clean, factory HTC ROM from HTC directly??
Thanks again for your time and patience...
HI there,
I'm keen to give this a try to get rid of the Optus stuff. I do have a question, apologies if it is a silly one:
Is doing this going to erase all the apps / Internet bookmarks / messages etc?
Thanks for the thread and advice.

Flashing a new ROM using an official RUU installer always wipes everything clean in the phone's internal memory. So, yes.
Finally...
After reading this thread.
My Goldcard seems to be working.
My problem was the Goldcard Tool I used to retrieve CID is giving me the wrong CID. Thus CID incorrect.
Using the Android app is more helpful.
Thanks to TS.

Problem installing HTC HD7 HSPL / RSPL

Hello to all ..
My problem is that here ..
In a few words I wanted to install in my HTC 7392 with node HD7 SPL Bootloader 4.5 and unlocked the rom modified mango ..
but before you do anything, I had to install HSPL / RSPL in my HTC HD7 ..
I downloaded the "DFT_XSPL_WP7FG1"
I followed a guide ..
MAH reached the point of selecting the SPL, the list of the program reached only up to 3.4 ..
so my HD7 being with SPL 4.5 you could not do so I tried to install the 3.4 "I did na bull****" ..
so going forward I get an error in the program where it was impossible to go on ..
So I unplugged the HD7 and I tried to do it again ..
MAH OSPL when I open "volume down and power button" not come out as written, but all I get only one written with the words "SS-BC PD29100 (4k) ..
What has happened? knows someone explain why?
I already tried to do the backup but nothing = (..
What does the spl screen say when your in bootloader?
Sounds like you have the 4.xx version.. If that's the case you need to flash an official nodo rom first. The hspl doesn't support spl's 4.xx yet.

if your Bootloader does indeed only have one thing written on it...
then you have half-bricked your device.
according to cotulla, here, it is impossible to recover such devices.
though...
according to dj.95, here, you can recover your device using the goldcard method.
good luck.

But you have to worry about?
What are the consequences?

you didnt read the instructions that are in giant bold letters all over those threads...you had spl 4.5 and tried to install the hspl. youve unfortunately half bricked your phone and currently it looks like it may NOT be fixable at all. try the gold card method listed above, i havent done it or read the thread but briefly but it looks like it may be a work around. unfortunately tho youre phone is BBQ'd.

Half bricked possibilities
Hi friends. Do you really know anybody, if goldcard, Zune HTC update, JTAG or something another can solve hb problem? I am also in the "warnings late reading ignorants" club from last weak. But, I got a reply from a single "Half Bricked repairing" service near of Central Europe (GSM-TechNix.de): "Dear Sir, HTC 7 Pro is no Supported by JTAG! Sorry we can not help for this Phone." I have a little idea - to replace only internal information about bootloader version (I have no info on tricolore, but 3.2.2250.0 in Settings/about), connect to Zune and replace HTC update, if it is depend by this number. Is it possible? I have unlocked phone with pre-nodo (older backup has deleted by Zune), then HTC debug application or some homebrew features for values writing can work.
(From another forums:
_________
"Just updated my half bricked phone(bootloader problem) via Zune with HTC update for Windows Phone and the bootloader hasn't been fixed, so our only chance is with XTC Clip or DFT to come with a solution
Actually I got the same problem using an HTC Trophy A1 Version."
________
"For now your/our phone(s) are half-bricked. But as soon as a new update is available - including a new Radio Version everything will work fine again. Had the same problem when debranding my phone. After updating to 7932 via Zune everything was fine again - until I applied the leaked Mango Update.
So again - be patient "
________
"If your device is halfbricked you can use the goldcard method to recover your phone. If it's full bricked you need to make a jTag."

1) always can't find my phone when is connected to the PC
2) don't show my Os version when does the last examination
3) don't give you an advice if something goes wrong before the upload
I want to advice you some better ways to unlock our Phones:
1) In June probably will be the next OS Update, no?
Why they don't starting to work to a next custom unlock update for it?
Maybe if we don't update our phones whit the next, we have the opportunity to update with an custom version.
2) They try to create some app who read and replace the program codes inside the smarphone.
The better way to update our phone it's only Zune, we need a custom version of this.
Hope we find a way, bye.
Follow the gold card method its simple if u have right Y cable.

[Q] I'm supposed to report something to DFT?

I just got this message:
[Error Description]:
Invalid ModelID. This means that your phone not supported.
This installer supports only limited number of the phones.
SPARK, MOZART, MONDRIAN, GOLD, SCHUBERT.
If you have phone from this list, but still have this error, please contact with DFT team.
[Info]: USBWorkRSPL.cpp (235)
[Error Description]:
ModelID is 'PD291500'. Please report this info to DFT.
[Info]: USBWorkRSPL.cpp (234)
My phone is an AT&T HTC HD7S model PD29150 on the SPL screen. Is it just that last 0 that's missing that's causing all of this? My SPL screen also says SS-BC (4K) and SPL-4.5.2250.0(129185) MMG
I updated it with SevenEighter to that latest Windows Phone OS 7.8 and I now badly need to unlock it.
Any help please?
Thank you!
(P.S. I thought the Schubert was supported on DFT_XSPL_WP7FG1..)
(P.S.2. I tried DFT_XSPL_WP7FG2 and it does properly detect my phone as a Schubert but my SPL is 4.5 and the newest I can select from the list is 3.4. Is there a newer version of this DFT tool for me to use?)
TLDR;
The simple step to be done here, since you have the same phone as me, is to use Y-Cable a goldcard and downgrade the bootloader with this ROM: RUU_Schubert_Cingular_US_3.03.502.04_Radio_5.66.09.09a_22.46.50.21_Signed_SCHUBERT_RELEASE
after that you can use Dynamics and forget about those idiotic official roms, because they suck!
You don't need to report anything to DFT, and this post is USELESS! You can unlock it with the RUU_Schubert_Cingular_US_3.03.502.04_Radio_5.66.09.09a_22.46.50.21_Signed_SCHUBERT_RELEASE and upgrade via zune, but that takes TOO MUCH TIME, it is better to use Dynamics, and you'll get only 2 updates: the 8860 and the 8862, and that'll be all.

No it's not useless, at least n00b users like me aren't puzzled by that message now.
I am still having a hard time doing what you said, I made my own Y USB cable and the power's fine it's just that I don't have a MicroSD card reader and so I'm trying to use a 4 GB flash drive to do the thing but it's like my phone doesn't detect it at all.
So I downloaded what you said.
Do I still have to rename that .nbh file to SCHUIMG.nbh?
And what about that confusing Goldcard, some posts say I can use any goldcard.img, is that true or do I have to make one in accordance with the flash storage card or drive I'm using on the other side of the Y USB cable?
Shouldn't the CID in the goldcard.img file match the one of the device I transferred the .nbh file to?
I saw a thread, I forget where it is now, that said something along the lines of: "just download and use this goldcard.img file".
Weren't we supposed to make our own by using http://psas.revskills.de/?q=goldcard ?
And anyways, most of the threads here are horribly old and full of linkrot, what do you expect me to make of them?
At least I'm trying and hopefully you guys will FINALLY have a how-to that is properly written in English with SkyDrive links that don't expire like the rapidshare ones...

[Q] HTC Rom Tool

There's instructions for extract Samsung WP8 Rom, for mountig Lumia's FFU file, but a tool for HTC's NBH file no?
HTC MOZART 7 unbrick
I have a few questions to begin with ?
1. Has anyone found a way to unbrick a half-bricked HTC Mozart using any other method apart from the JTAG method.
2. anyone tried to use the SD CARD of the phone especially when it only freezes on the HTC logo + or Halfbricked ,
I think the device blocks using the card or maybe the card gets spoiled or something, since the card used to work on my pc before
bricking it, but after half-bricking(HTC logo frozen screen) it, it doesn't seem to work on any device.
3. Anyone ever tried any other method apart from the JTAG method e.g gold card to unbrick or repair the bootloader of the phone ?.
Suggestion
This is to anyone with access to two HTC Mozart phones, Has anyone tried the Y-cable method to unbrick a bricked phone using another phone that is having a healthy bootloader via the USB FLASH METHOD or GOLDCARD METHOD, since the phone seems to not to have loaded or blocks the USB driver from communicating with the Pc making flashing impossible.I Think it could work but don't have a spare phone to use.
Mine got halfbricked due to using wrong SPL version using DFT.But it worked fine for some time although there was no flashing, untill I tried to install roms using the WP7 Update Cab Sender which I had success using several versions which were hosted at some site which is now down which had some older windows cab files .
This is when I came accross this file on an XDA thread 404841_2250.21.40600.401_oemupdate_release.cab.pks_8d75a9a11056436651aafb0f2b6edeb9d87a1107.cab that finally made my phone a completely useless.
I tried Goldcard method but no luck yet or I could be using the wrong procedure/tools.
Anyway for NOBS try saving your Zune restore point they saved me big time they could save you one day they are at:
----->AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update\
My phone details:
Bootloader version was probably 4.6
Os ver 07.00.07403.00-00000
In bootloader mode phone displays :
PD671000 SS-BC (4K) only.
BL CRC-0×08FF02DDF
OS(SI) CRC-0×31A2D967
