Hey guys,
I've cracked the screen on my S3 19305T. The buttons and screen actually work perfectly its just the glass screen that is broken. After doing some research I have found multiple sources where people say you can just replace the outer glass screen.
What my question is -
Is the i9300 outer screen the same as the i9305? I am looking at purchasing this but want to make sure its the same for i9305 - I have found a few ebay sellers who just have the glass screen for around $20AUD but need to make sure it fits before purchasing. Any other advice or feedback will be greatly appreciated also.
Your advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I don't know if I need the glass screen with the 'sensor signal ribbon' or without for the i9305T?
Can anyone please confirm?
Not 100% but I do believe they are the same. Doubt you'd need the ribbon unless you cut the original while removing the glass so be careful.
Edit: Remember that you are only replacing the glass. There are no wires or anything connected. The digitizer and LCD are under it.
Hey mpeyrac, I wondered how you got along trying to replace the GS3 glass. I got myself into a similar situation this friday night...
Searching and asking around leads to contradictory advice: someone say the whole front needs replacing (including display) others have mentioned just the lens...
Cheers

I would be 99.999% sure its like the I9300 and i have seen a youtube video of a guy only replacing the glass only but this is harder to do and its a really slow and tedious procedure.
do a youtube search you will see this guy in the states doing it. And yes it is also same screen for the US devices
The info I have from a distributor is that Samsung do NOT supply the glass on it its own so I would be a little cautious as to whether you would actually be getting gorilla glass.
I have also seen horror stories of people tryign to replace the glass and completelly srewing up the display. It is also a nightmare to get off.
I appreciate it is much more costly but I would actually buy the whole screen. In the UK you can get them for about £150 but you just do all the work from the back, move your circuit boards over. The whole screen assembly comes with the metal bezel so if you wanted to you could actually buy the black version.
Also, the 9305 and 9300 are different so make sure you get the 9305 version.

Lol, "cracking the display" while attempting the glass cheap fix is not a problem, you will be replacing whole screen unit anyways if that happens, if you succeed like many people, you save yourself some hundred bucks.
Down to budget and preference!
I have the budget so I would not even consider just replacing the glass, others may not but then if something goes wrong they will not have any choice.
But my main point is that Samsung do not supply just the glass on its own so imho you will probably not be getting gorilla glass.
Hi all !
I just bought THIS screen protector and just loving it.
I was worried about the fitting to the screen but the precision laser cut was very accurate, fits exactly to the screen.
I applied it myself for the first time, it is magnetic(does not leave adhesive residue) so you can always remove apply it correctly. The matte finish is just excellent
It is for Indian users but the seller said they import these from abroad so the same brand can be found on international sites too.
I got a clear screen protector and i like it better than matte finish.

1) can anybody show a side-to-side comparison of matte and clear protectors applied?
2) are the aftermarket protectors better than the sony stock protector?
Hi guys, just got my ZR and I'm loving it but it's quite the fingerprint magnet. Is there a screen protector that can help. I have set my eyes on this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vikuiti-A...ting_LaptopAccessories_RL&hash=item51b125bc05 but I don't know if it's any good. Any suggestions?

Thank you, for your suggestion I got 3 matte and 6 clear screen protectors I will see how it goes and which I like best. Has anyone removed the pre-installed protector from their device. I'm concerned that I'll remove the SONY logo if I get rid of it (I hear that happened on xperia Z units). Is there any danger in removing it and should I remove it at all or just place the new one on top of it?
Place the new one on top. Doesn't dampen sensitivity too much.

matte
At first didn't like my matte screen protector...
Pros
feels nicer!
no filthy finger prints!
minimal light reflections..
if you use dim backlight it really helps..
you can re apply it.
no air bubbles at all!
Cons
unable to use it as a mirror when screen off.
colours and images on the screen are not as sharp,
slight glow on whites.
But now i wouldn't go back!
I'm still waiting for my screen protector and today I noticed a tiny scratch on the screen. It's not that visible but is there a way to fix that. Will the screen protector cover it or I'm stuck with a scratched SONY?

Take a pencil eraser and rub it off..
It should not be the screen itself. Sony is known to apply screen protectors on each phone in-manufacture. It's not visible but if you insist you can remove it. It's even possible that the sony logo is simply printed on it, like the Xperia V.

Removing the anti-shatter film will invalidate the warranty.
Seriously?? How could this void the warranty? It has nothing to do with the hardware and doesn't affect the device in any way!
Made in ZR

Yes, there are a lot users talking about it, removing the shatter-proof screen protector voids the warranty because it'll no longer be shatter proof.....stupid isn't it? I already scratched mine before knowing that, now I'm stuck with a scratched screen until my warranty ends and I remove the f****ing thing.
is this detail specified in the texts ?

I can't really say I haven't researched this, what I know for sure is that this protector is factory heated onto the screen and it's not supposed to be removed.
Hi,
I'm trying to find a screen protector for a whole display, without any holes in it.. I found this: amazon.de/dp/B00K1JTIMG/ but of course, I'm not sure if it's a picture of a real product or just illustrative picture. can someone confirm / recommend something else?
(sorry, posting links is blocked, since I'm new here..)

You are right. The protector is factory-heated onto the screen, remove it and the Sony logo will go off. As for the warranty, there are two paragraphs Sony could use against you if you remove the protector (as stated by the Important information brochure):
Do not paint or attempt to disassemble or modify the product. Only Sony authorized personnel should perform service.

Additionally, "What we will do" section, says:
7. Tampering with any of the seals on the Product will void the warranty.

I know it is not very specific, but hey, that's how lawyers do it.
The only thing I always wonder about, is what kind of glass ZR's screen uses... GorillaGlass? DragonTrail? I found many different sites talking about that, but none of them had conclusive evidence. Sony's official response is ZR uses a "Shatter proof and scratch-resistant glass". No specific brand mentioned .
Anyway, I bought a good protector for 5 bucks. It's a "KLX Anti-explosion Soft TPU 0.2mm Screen Guard Film" and the package includes everything you need to apply it successfully. Also, I saw a 1mm tempered glass protector for 15 bucks, thinking of buying it next time.
Hi everyone,
Hope my question makes sense - I dropped my phone last night and the screen cracked. Not the LCD, just the glass. But... The touch is perfect. There's just cracked glass.
I saw a listing in eBay that had just the "front glass" cover part for like $6. Naturally, if I can NOT pay $250+ for a fixed phone, that'd be great. So, does anyone know what exactly it is that I'd need to buy to fix this myself?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: This link has the "glass lens" I was talking about.

The glass and digitizer are almost always fused together. If you can get them seperated you'll likely never get the replacement glass attached in a way that will look normal. These things are typically replaced as a unit because of this.
They come glued together and actually removing the glass lens without damaging anything else is very VERY difficult. Best option is to buy a new LCD/digitiser in one and swap them out. I know its expensive but i can ensure you trying to change just the glass is a nightmare!
I've done a couple screens like this and they are a PITA!
If you heat them up enough you can separate the two but in some cases the heat needed damages the screen. It's one of those things that you can "try" it but go into it knowing that it most-likely won't work unless you have a ton of patients. The key is getting all of the glue that bonds the two parts off of the screen/digitizer so the new glass can lay flat and seal.
Interesting. Does the glass not need to be rebonded?
Haven't found this anywhere else, so posting.
There is dust under my screen. I don't know how it got there, but I know it hasn't always been there, and I know it's not a dead pixel, because its clearly grey, even when the screen is off. Should I get a replacement? I'm reluctant to be without the phone for almost a week. Any suggestions for removal? I don't want to damage the phone any more.
This is very odd, and I expected better of a Motorola device. I wonder if the screen is glued on, or if there is a layer between the screen and the body of the phone.
Thanks,
Shwise

From ifixit:
"The digitizer is fused to the display, increasing repair costs for a cracked screen, but it is easy to get to the bare display assembly."

Its an samoled display, which is distinct from a regular amoled display in that the digitizer is GLUED to the actual display. What you are describing does not sound possible.
I have been using the device for a month, the front screen preinstall protection is clearly noticeable. My curiosity, the inside screen has pre-install screen protector? as it is quite flat (and no camera hold) so i am really not sure it is protected by screen protector or not, if it is there it is very perfect cutting and very unnoticeable. Any confirm?
I don't think the big inner screen had a protector. I put a matt one on though. Couldn't stand it. I need a protector on everything. Except myself it seems, 6 kids later
yes i think so, so i order one for myself also. Just dont understand the huawei instruction at serting up the phone that this device is pre-applied special screen protector, and they instruct even do not applied third party protector on top of it. So how do you feel when you applied another one on it, touch sensitivity is ok? and does it bubble when fold unfold several times?
