Since upgrading my Rom last week to the 7.0.A.3.195 I've noticed a stranger fade effect when launching apps.
Its like the contrast slides from low to high over about 2 seconds. It's a little irritating, has anyone else noticed this?

It's not brightness. It's saturation/gamma. Or maybe contrast. The brightness stays the same, but looks like a really cheap LCD for a second, then fades to normal.

Did you work out what this was. I also see the same thing on my unit. Received it last Friday, updated to 7.0.A.3.195 within 24 hours of turning the phone on, there I didn't notice if the phone did this oddity before hand as I was letting it charge and downloading apps etc..
I notice it more so on the Barclays Banking App. White background with green numbers for the account balances. The screen is like all white with a hint of green in there then it fades into contrast correctly and it looks perfect again. I have also noticed this when browsing.
My thoughts are its either A) a bug B) Faulty handsets (doubt it) or C) some sort of "easy on the eye" system when changing from dark to bright colours? Dunno
Ive tried brightness Auto/Manual, Bravia engine on/off brightness max, low all the same. It doesnt bother me but have also noticed it.

It's not an issue, it's a feature (in Sony's mind) so they can trumpet it to the four winds as Bravia Engine, dynamic contrast, et al.
The problem is, that as a feature, it sucks.
I have problem with contrast on my XT. As you can see on screenshots down below, colours looks just fine. But on my screen in XT, when I put wallpapers from Z (got it from another thread) part of wallpaper pointed by arrows is bright gray (similar to the gray below the zigzag). Problem with other wallpaper is analogical - the colour below the zigzag shows up to the zigzag....

I am having a problem with my screen, this has been a ongoing thing for a while now. I am running cm6 extremely blue from the 19th of Oct, no kernel mod. When I do a clean install my screen displays all images just fine. After a few days some images start looking really bad, instead of the colors blending they become bands of different colors. Its really hard to explain so I attached a screenie of the XDA app, the brown looks horrible. I know thats not the way it is as I have seen the colors blend together, no thick color lines. I ant figure it out for the life of me, is this happening on everyones phones? I dont recall it runnng Fresh rom, and like I said it takes a couple days for it to start happening on cm6. I found a few things in awd launcher that I can disable to help the situation, like wallpaper hack, scrolling widget support, turning these off and or on will help it look better on desktop, but on apps I found nothing to help improve. Could something need editing in the XML files? Or are we all seeing these lines and just dealing with them? Any feedback is appreciated
Oh, and once it starts this even a nandroid back to when it was fine doesnt help. Only a clean install does.
and happens with both apps2sd and internal storage.

Nobody?
This is not occurring on my pictures, gallery. My home screen is fine, as well as calendar widget. Thoroughly in handcent the gray bar up top has the color lines, slacker also has it toward the bottom where it get brighter. Could it be something in framework, maybe I can edit some sort if default setting to use 16 bit, because it looks like 8 bit graphics

I sound like your talking about dithering, like instead of something that should be a gradient it is instead broken up and where you would normally see a smooth transition from a color to color its broken with lines.
Heres some suggestions
cm settings > performance settings : enable surface dithering (which improves image quality but slows the phone some what).
reboot you phone at least once a day.
your screen density might be to high (or low) in your build.prop file.
Updated to extremely blue Oct 25 and problem is gone. Chances are in 2 or 3 days it will be back though

I had set build prop to 150 on all three, the 3rd being default. This has been a issue for some time now. I will leave build prop alone and see what happens. You are exactly right about what I am trying to explain the issue is. Can I set to 150, and what else can or can not be changed? Changing the default density to 150 was something I had never done before, screen would do this at the default 160 as well.

Are you saying your phone is running for a couple of days and then it does it, cause I daily reboot is highly recommended. The phone just doesn't have the internal memory to render the graphics on images with alot of colors.
I would try a 140 on the density.

Well yes and no, it will happen after a few days but I do reboot daily, sometimes a few reboots per day. When I edit build prop I am using Root Explorer, it saves the old file. Should I delete this file, maybe it us confusing the system? Also can I edit the default setting to 140? Thank you for your help and concern

Build prop it is! I tried 140 and still messed up so I tried changing the default to 140 also. That did not help I took all three settings back to 160 and my screen went back to clean and clear. Why can others change the dpi, am I needing to changes something else along with the 2 numbers?
Thank You!

Download from there and copy to /system/app, change permission to match the others, reboot.
Working ok, it seems to get confused when you rotate to portrait. The water switches to portrait but then switches back to landscape.
Haven't tried the other apps yet.
how do you change permissions?
Change perms with root explorer.

Mine works fine switching back and forth between landscape and portrait.
It appears to "refill" from the new "bottom of screen" to current battery level when I switch landscape/portrait but that's about it.

Wish we can get the hardware acceleration going for gtab..
For those curious on how it looks on the Gtab here is a screenshot.
Just install the 'signed' water apk.
The water level descend as the battery drains. Pretty cool.

No.
Figured out why my water level was getting messed up, had to go into the settings for the wallpaper and uncheck the change water orientation option.

Sweet! Works nicely with CM7S.

Agreed it drains out my battey too
Mine gets confused when I switch it to portrait and back to landscape. It's like the sensor is rotated 90 degrees and stays on the side I rotated too. Rebooting is the only way to reset it back.
Anyone else see this?
waterline not level
Is it just me that sees that the sensor that sets the angle of the waterline is struggling?. When I prop the gTab up on my CLIP case I notice the water line is a little off level like it's a bit tilted to one side. and when I Disable the water rotation setting I notice the water line will "twitch" every second or so like it's struggling and getting some conflicting data.
It would be nice to have a gyroscope sensor in the gtab. But were stuck with the accelerometer, not quite as accurate.
Works on Vegan Ginger ROM, using the signed apk.
The angle is a little off with the tablet propped up and I have also noticed that it will occasionally "twitch".
Could not get the weather widget to work.

I experienced that the "Adapt to lighting conditions" function isn't as good. When I turn it of, it's as bright as before. I like to manage that manually anyway so... You don't give much information so I'm not sure if you've tried this, but I guess that's the first thing people do.

What I notice, as a new owner as of latest version (so cannot tell about prev version), is that the auto brightness range is almost null.
I tested the light sensor in service menu and it is working, but the brightness of the screen does not chnage much from DARK to FULL LIGHT.
Also, if auto brightness is enabled, why the brightness slider in the quick controls?

Battery Saving
I guess they didn't want too much battery drain. So what are the benefits of this update? Do they outweigh the need for the firmware upgrade? We'll as soon as it's rooted and flashed with custom then all this will be fine. It's just a waiting game now.
I've noticed since being updated to Sense 6 the white balance on the camera goes a bit out of control in the default Auto mode. Way over aggressive. I think it goes out of control once you start tapping to focus on something, rather than letting it auto focus.
NOTE: I'm using the Omni ov ov4688 sensor. I'm not sure if this affects the other One camera sensors out there.
I've noticed the over aggressiveness in good lighting and bad lighting. I'm curious if this is only affecting us Omni sensor users. This is a bit different than the green tint on the Omni sensor as it tends to throw any color out of wack, not just green. Its almost as of someone turned the saturation all the way up.
I found a quick work around in the Sense 6 camera app. Switch your camera to the Zoe camera and take a photo. I noticed that the white balance and saturation levels are completely normal in Zoe mode. (The new Zoe camera in Sense 6 allows you to take a regular photo if you don't hold the camera button down. In Sense 6 you have to hold the button down a bit longer for Zoe to kick in.)
Below are examples of first taking a photo in the regular camera app on Auto mode, then followed by Zoe mode. The first photo in each has unusual amounts of saturation and white balance issues. The Zoe camera samples appear normal.

Yeah - I tried making a custom camera app with saturation down a notch but it never comes out as good as just shooting with the Zoe camera. I don't think you can do anything with white balance.
I've also been trying to get the AWB_cal file from the M8 on my phone to see if that will make a difference, but so far no luck getting it copied over.

How is your p20 pro amoled black crush/black smearing looks like?
To reproduce the black crush/black smearing problem, you can try in two ways:
Option A
1)Change the setting menu to dark background:
Setting -> battery -> darken interface colours
2)Turn your display to the dimmest ( lowest brightness level) in a low light or dark room
3) try to have some scrolling action on the darken setting menu
4) You should see the white menu sub text has some smearing effect
Option B
1) take a picture which has a lot of dark/black spot
2) Turn your display to the dimmest ( lowest brightness level) in a low light or dark room
4) in the gallery, scroll left and right of those pic
5) you should see the black smearing effects on the dark spot of the pic
I will try to get some video on.
Mines looks pretty serious imo so do the displayed phone from the retail shop.
Not sure which vendor Huawei is using for this amoled. But I can guess for sure it wasn't Samsung amoled
Video taken:
Pay attention to the black wire of the earphone. You can see that whenever you drag there is black trail or smearing effect following the black wire of the earphone
It is very noticeable if you use your phone in the dimmest level of display and in a dark room.
iPhone doesnt really captured the smearing effects much though.
Im not too sure about the smearing vs s9. But i saw that the s9 crushes the blacks, whilst the p20 doesn't.
On black level tests my p20 can see all squares. My sisters s9 shows the first 2 or 3 as pure black which is not the case.

Not sure if i'm getting old or i can't see this.
Since i'm not using my phone to grade photo's while sitting in a pitch black room i'm not really worried about this.
I'm certainly not going to take the effort to setup this artificial test. I have better things to do.
So far from I had observed the black smearing only happened on gallery app and setting menu (if you set it to darken interface)

Okay I think I see what they mean. So it can really only be reproduced if
1. You turn the brightness slider down to zero.
2. You have black backgrounds enabled.
3. You scroll/drag VERY slowly.
The way to catch it is to
A. Do not lift your finger off the display when dragging the list in settings app. In super slow motion. Drag ever so slowly, like your stretching the writing on the display, and
B. Lock your eye on one same icon and see it fade colour or lose its brightness as you drag it or 'stretch it' with the same poised finger, without lifting from the display.
In other words, it is very difficult and unnatural to produce. But I can confirm it exists. I think it's a non issue for nearly everyone bar a very few people. I cannot reproduce it, for example in this dark themed official XDA app. Because the background is not true black and the text is white.
