My salutes to dr.Ketan for putting up this simple and effective method. This method gives root until the phone is re-booted. Cf-root is the only best permanent root method and his latest cf-root kernels are safe also. Bt still RISK IS ALL YOURS PERSONALLY.
I just extended dr.ketan's method into permanent rooting without any yellow triangle. This works on all ICS-STOCK ROMs.
Step by step method :
Requirements :
1) Use dr.ketan's su+busybox root and cwm to get a temporary root.
2) Check your stock kernel from settings--»about and check your kernel version.
3) Download cf-root kernel from chain-fire's post here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784
Download from lower post to get the safe kernels
4) After downloading .zip extract it to .tar to zimage and save it to your /sdcard
5) From market download hc-ktool
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.hellcat.droiddev.ktool&hl=en
Procedure :
1) Flash Samsung stock ICS ROM.
Or
ICS factory made SGNote
2) Power of the Note.
3) Press volume-up+menu+power combo buttons to reboot into c3 recovery.
4) Install temporary root as per dr.ketan method.
5) Reboot the Note.
6) Go to hc-ktool and use flash zimage(which is already extracted from cf-root kernel) from /sdcard and then reboot the Note from reboot menu in hc-ktool.
Your SGNote is now permanently rooted.
Follow every step carefully. If you go wrong then its your SGNote which will go to bricks!!!!!

WHY ? Root isn't temporary, only cwm it is, with Dr. Ketan's method ...
And everybody knows how to flash a cf kernel without triangle afterwards.
hmm just another repost of a sticky...anything else new here mate?

I have the gtn-7000 note. Its on 2.3.6. The kernal is LA6.
Ive read many guides but they are too confusing. Is i t possible if I can root my phone? If not, then what do I have to do? If it requires flashing etc then will it brick my phone?
Thank you.

Go to dr ketan's thread there is a gb rom there that is already rooted when you flash it. The gb rom has no superbrick issue only ics if you factory reset or recovery data wipe or do a nandroid.
Here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816158
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
On the third post, it tells me how to root but I am a bit confused.
Is Odin the same thing as CWM?
Will this brick/malfunction my note?
After rooting, would I have to download the LA6 kernal?
Can someone give me the link to PC Odin?

1. odin is not CWM
2. yes, there is always a chance to brick, no guarantees.
3. no
just follow this:
2. Long, No raised couter OR Exclamation mark
-Downgrade to Rootable GB ROM and Root it. OR Download This pre rooted GB ROM and flash using PC Odin
-Wipe cache, data and delvic cache from recovery
-Install Mobile Odin Pro
-Copy ICS ROM file in .tar (you want to flash) to Internal SD card (recommended, but you can have it on EXT too)
-Copy one of custom Kernel in .tar file e.g.Notecore, Speedmod, CF root kernel Or other any with same function.
-Open Mobile Odin Pro
-select open file
-Point to ROM file you have copied
-All fiels will popup and feel automatically
-select kernel and point to custom kernel file you have copied
Flash.
Done!
you need to read some more on how to use pc odin properly.

I already read the post on that link ..
For method 1 what use for root_supersu and root_busybox? Is that supersu use to root and busybox for flash rom?
If I use method 2, I will also get supersu and busybox?

Method one will just install busybox and superSU, I mean it will just root your phone. Method 2 will root as well as flash custom kernel too. But after method 2 you will have yellow triangle and custom binary count (which can be reset using triangle away app by Chainfire)

So for method 1 is using busybox and supersu to root and using mobile odin to flash rom.
For method 2, is that must root and flash at the same time? Can we just root the phone only? After root no busybox and supersu installed in phone?
Which rom i can choose if i want to flash custom rom? I using kernel version N7000DXLR5.

You will have to flash to get root:
1. Download a SAFE kernal from XDA. Try HydraCore if you dont know which one to use : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749863
2. Download 0din for PC 1.85
3. Follow the normal steps for flashing using 0din (use the safe kernel you downloaded) --> This will install a kernel which is rooted. Depending on the type of kernel / ROM it will have SuperUser / SuperSU. CleanNote ROM has SuperUser installed on it directly.
(If you are not sure of steps to use 0din, have a look at the screenshot / steps at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 )
4. Now that you have a safe kernel you can install the rom of you choice by using CWM. You can try - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716088. Other ROMS are posted in the Android Development sub-forum
5. You can remove the triangular exclamation mark using 'Triangle Away'
Hello everyone, I've just bought my N7000, I used to have a LG P500, then a Xperia Sola, and now my amazing GALAXY NOTE !!!!
I'm reading a lot getting the info needed to get into this device and I find particulary confusing the rooting stuff.
I have found this tutorial by dr.ketan
[24sept12]How to Root/Unroot Samsung Galaxy Note + CWM
BUT acording to this thread by dr.ketan this method is dangerous.... and he says:
Present option to root ICS ROM is
So present option for rooting is - You can select any of one.
1. Short, easy - requires to reset counter
-Download Odin (.tar) version of custom kernel like Notecore, Speedmod, CF root kernel Or other any with same function.
-Flash it using PC odin for PDA tab.
-You will get exclamation mark and raised counter, which can be reset with Triangle Away
2. Long, No raised couter OR Exclamation mark
-Downgrade to Rootable GB ROM and Root it. OR Download This pre rooted GB ROM and flash using PC Odin
-Wipe cache, data and delvic cache from recovery

It is the easiest and safest method to root your phone
I rooted by flashing a zip file.I think there is a site named galaxynoteroot or rootgalaxynote
Anyway, try to find the site.it has video tutorials too

as RAj says just flash the Philz kernel for the rom build from stock recovery and you will get rooted after a reboot
What about this option? is it safe?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35512626&postcount=1
DUDE
go to Philz stock kernel thread. download the kernel that corresponds to your phone from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
reboot into recovery by doing the 3 finger salute.
flash it. and then reboot.
you are rooted and on a safe kernel.
simple

Hi:
My brother bought a Galaxy Note , and i had updated it to offesial JB 4.1.2 rom.
I want to know how to root it without changing the stock kernel and how to install a recovery.
you can install a recovery without changing the kernel
to root and keep stock kernel 1B
to root and change kernel and CWM 1A

Just flash philz kernel in stock recovery, which gives you: root + CWM recovery + safe kernel (to avoid brick bug). I would recommend you read Dr. Ketan's thread a few time to get used to Samsung devices.
