[Q] How to Install custom ROM (deepshining 7.8) on HTC HD7 Easy a Free? - HD7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys. This has been bugging me for a while now, how would I install Deepshining v 7.8 on my HTC HD7 easily and without needing to pay a cent? I haven't been able to find any method that works as of yet. Can you please link me methods which do not involve using the Y split system or similar. A guide or two would be GREAT!
Thanks!
My Specs:
OS Version: 7.10.8773.98
Firmware: 2250.21.51201.707
Bootloader: 5.12.2250.0(139198)

The problem is unless you have a Zune pre-Mango restore point on your PC, meaning you upgraded the device to Mango from a pre-Mango state and still have the PC that you used to do it on, the only other method to downgrade 5.xxx on your device is the goldcard/Y cable method.
Take a look at Zubair's Pre-Mango restore point method -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362194
Also the Y cable set up is really cheap. You can either make one yourself or purchase one on line. Then you only need a 1gb SD card and card reader. I did the whole set up, made 2 - Y cables and bought a SD card reader and 1gb sd card all for $12

I understand

Thankyou alot man! I think, with all my research and your confirmation I will pursue it with the y cable method. I am new to this stuff so thank you once again. I just started researching yesterday!

Your welcome!
Just remember the main steps are:
1. Downgrade the SPL to at or below 3.xxx (which is required to install XSPL)
2. Install XSPL (RSPL/HSPL)
3. Flash a custom rom of your choice.
I would recommend to follow Shadow's excellent step by step tutorial here -

If you have any questions or need any help just let me know!

Im a newbie in the world of Windows phone...
Can anyone help in giving a tutorial regarding how to flash my HTC HD7 with custome ROM's..
What are the requirements required..And the specifications..
Plz help me...
First you have to downgrade your spl to at 3.xxx or below. Then flash rspl or hspl to your device, then you can flash a custom rom! Just follow shadows tutorial here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295068
If you enter into bootloader and post your information back from the screen, can help walk you through it! To enter bootloader, phone off, hold down the volume button and power the phone back on while continuing to hold down the volume down button, this will bring you into bootloader mode a tri colored sreen.

Ok with spl 5.xxx you have to use the goldcard method. Unless you have a backup through Zune... Meaning, did you upgrade the hd7 through Zune from pre mango to mago version?

What is goldcard u mentioned...is this a different method other than u mentioned before...
And one more thing do u get balance notification after call or txt msg..,because im not able to get it...
Goldcard is one of the only methods of downgrading your spl from 5.xxx without having a backup. Goldcard, you need to make a Y cable out of USB cables and have a sd card reader to complete the process!
Not sure what you mean by balance notification?
Oh do you mean like phone credit balance? Are you on a pay as you go plan? Im on contract with month to month billing and get notification when my bill is due and can view my usage through my carrier account!

No I don't get notifications... I'm pretty sure it has to do with the update and I don't think there is a way to turn it back on either!

That's good... We can do the spl downgrade without the Goldcard method then. So when your ready just let me know, I'll walk you through the process and we will have you running a custom rom in no time!

And you quoted as i requires gold card method...Now how you ae saying it does not require goldcard.... Cann you explain in brief please...
Typically with a spl of 5.xxx or higher you would have to use the Goldcard method. But if you have a pre mango backup you can restore your phone through Zune, connect device to Zune - phone - settings - restore. It will restore your device to before the update, then re update the phone again through Zune like your upgrading to mango again. But this time once the Mango update happens (the phone will reboots twice after the update is applied, once for changing the spl and once for loading Mango) The spl is changed to 4.xxx that's when you stop the update and unplug the phone, you have to do this before the last update is applied which is the 7740/HTC Firmware Update, if you apply that too, it will change your spl to 5.xxx again, so you have to stop after the Mango update and then you can follow shadows tutorial for spl 4.xxx downgrade. Plus it will show you in the update box on the computer what update step it is on, so it's really easy to do! This is the same process that I used to downgrade my spl from 5.xxx to 4.xxx, then I finished using shadows tutorial to do the rest! The whole process took about and hour to fully complete and to have Deepshining rom installed on my device!
Why im not able to jail break my phone..When i run jail breaker, it say's phone is not connect through USB or Zune is not open..Though phone is cnnected through USB and Zune is open..
Should the phone be unlocked for it...Or it will work without unlock...

Make sure your phone is plugged into the computer when trying to get the restore point. Should be select, phone - settings - update (Zune should check for an update and say, no updates availabe) and then there should be a restore button towards the bottom of the update box. If it's not there then you must not have a pre mango backup for it and you will have to use the Goldcard method to do it which is pretty easy once you have the Y cable put together and a sd card reader! Here's a pretty detailed tutorial for the Goldcard method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893152
Then there is no backup i feel, because no restore button is displayed....

Hi,hope this is the right place to ask this. I bought this HD7 last week from Ebay and it's current specs are;
Software: Windows 7.5
OS: 7.10.8107.79
Bootloader: 5.11.XXX
Zune is saying there's an update available, haven't updated yet though.
So my question is,I want to install the Deepshining rom,do I do the following;
Flash the NoDo rom as listed in the Q&A section of the Deepshining thread, via bootloader,to downgrade SPL.
Flash RSPL via bootloader, then immediately flash Deepshining rom.
Is it that easy,or am I missing something (or everything !) Have flashed loads of roms on phones in the past with no bother, but this seems dodgy to me as I keep seeing the word 'brick' and that scares me a bit.
Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

Wish it was that easy...lol! Sounds like you understand for the most part, but with the bootloader of 5.xxx there are really only two options for being able to flash a custom rom.
1. A pre-Mango backup/restore point on your p/c. Which since you just got the device won't be a possibility for you.
2. The goldcard/Y cable method. Which is really easy and inexpensive! You can build you own cable or purchase one.
Check out Shadows tutorial, he explains the whole process and steps to flash a custom rom.

Your HD7 is semi/small bricked then.
You will have to use the goldcard/ Y cable method to repair the bootloader.
This is the basic idea of what you'll have to do:
Use the goldcard/ Y cable method and flash a stock/shipped rom for your devices specific carrier, through USB host mode. This should repair the bootloader and depending on what stock/shipped rom you use it might downgrade your SPL and OS version, which your SPL has to be at or below 3.xxx to install RSPL or HSPL (which is required to flash a custom rom) and then you can flash a custom rom via bootloader mode.
Look at Shadows tutorial, (below) it explains how to downgrade SPL, flashXSPL and install a custom rom and he has a link for all the stock/shipped roms. Read through it and then click on the goldcard link and that will explain on how to use the goldcard/ Y cable method. You have to make or purchase a Y cable and need a flash drive/card reader, download the goldcard tool and a stock/shipped rom. It's pretty easy to do, let me know if you need any help or have any question.

Try this, these are problems that usually cause it to get stuck in USB host mode
Sometimes if the Y cable is too long in length it won't work properly in transferring the data.
There are 2 .nhb files, so make sure your downloading the correct .nbh file (ruu_signed.nbh) and rename the ruu_signed.nbh to SCHUIMG.nbh Has to be capitalized letters when renaming the file.
Make sure the correct ends are plugged in where they should be.
Sometimes the camera button will get stuck in and prevent the device from flashing correctly.
Make sure the SD card is wiped clean and place the file inside the SD card and patch it with the goldcard tool.

There both great roms and there both on the 8779 build... I'm a huge fan of the Deepshining rom though, it has some cool extra features and the new USB video output.
Did you install RSPL or HSPL? If you installed HSPL all you have to do is enter bootloader mode and flash the rom, so it's really easy to switch from one rom to another if you want.

What errors or problems did you have when trying the goldcard method?
Since you have an HTC Asia WWE operator device, the SLSPL method by Ansar will not work for you.
The only other way for you to downgrade 5.xxx would be the Zubair - Pre-Mango Zune restore point method. Requires you to have a Pre-Mango restore point through Zune, meaning that you have updated the device from a Pre-Mango state to Mango and still have the computer that you did it on. If you use this method make sure to read the directions carefully... The devices SPL will not be downgraded when you revert back to Pre-Mango state, it changes the SPL when you re-update the device through Zune again and the key part is that the device will reboot twice during the update once to change the SPL to 4.xxx and once to actually install Mango and at this point you have to stop the update process and unplug the device before it installs the 3 update which is the HTC firmware update and if that update is installed the devices SPL will be upgraded to 5.xxx again and you will be stuck in the same position.

What errors or problems did you have when trying the goldcard method?
Since you have an HTC Asia WWE operator device, the SLSPL method by Ansar will not work for you.
The only other way for you to downgrade 5.xxx would be the Zubair - Pre-Mango Zune restore point method. Usually if the device hangs in "USB host mode" its due too -
1. The SD card reader... Try a different card reader. This is the most common problem and if your card reader uses a USB cable (like a printer style USB cable) try a different cable.
2. Make sure the only file on the SD card is the SCHUIMG.nbh ( has to be capitalized when renaming the ruu_signed.nbh)
3. The camera button can get stuck pushed in and prevent the device from flashig
4. Try switching around the Y cable connections.
5. If you make the Y cable to long in length it can cause a problem with trying to read the file.
Also when the device gets stuck in "Enter USB host mode or Loading" you have to pull the battery and re-enter USB host mode to try and start the flash process again.
Try these and let me know how it goes.

What size SD card are you using? Make sure it's a 1gb card or if it's larger then partition it down to 1gb.

[Q] Need someone to guide me and explain

Hey guys!
I have just bought myself a HD7. I bought it in Sweden... but it´s not purchased in Sweden from the beginning. It´s the 16gb version and as I understand that one was never sold in Sweden. Also... there are only two system languages in the stock ROM... English and som other strange language. I don´t know if any of this matters when it comes to flashing... but just in case.
I´m no stranger to flashing and modding... but I come from a Omnia 7 and that baby is almost foolproof. With a HD7 I really feel unsure...
This is what I need help with:
I have tried to get around this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295068 but I really don´t understand where to start. I would really like for someone to tell me exactly what to do and why. My goal is to flash one of the 7.8 roms from the forum.
Here´s my specs:
I don´t have a Y Cable!
HTC HD7 T9292
OS 7.10.8773.98
Firmware revision number: 2250.21.51201.707
Hardware revision number: 0002
Radio software version: 5.71.09.02a_22.51.50.21U
Radio hardware version: A.102.0.D4
Bootloader version: 5.12.2250.0(139198)
Chip SSOC version: 2.2.5.0
I use the latest Zune on a Windows 7 x64 machine (Windows 8 actually, but I guess that doesn´t matter. It worked fine on the Omnia)
I´m really sorry for asking something that is probably described in the forum a hundred times Before... but I feel like I need a babysitter, here.
Thanx in advance!

Your device is a HTC Asia WWE operator.
Unfortunately there are only 3 methods to downgrade SPL 5.xxx and 2 of them will not apply to your device, so you will have to use the goldcard method to downgrade your SPL to at or below 3.xxx (which is required to install RSPL/HSPL) with a stock/shipped Asia WWE rom.
1. Download this rom, goldcard tool and the goldcard image.
https://rapidshare.com/#!download|8...02_Radio_5.52.09.16_22.33a.50.10U.7z|9310|0|0
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597837
2. Either make or purchase a Y cable from online.
3. Extract the contents (use a program like 7Zip) of the rom to a new folder on your desktop and remove the Ruu_signed.nbh file and rename it to SCHUIMG.nbh (has to be capitalized when renaming)
Use a 1gb or 2gb SD card wiped and formatted to FAT32 ( larger cards can work but need to be partitioned to 1gb) put it in the card reader and connect to PC, place the SCHUIMG.nbh file on the SD card. Run the goldcard tool, click on the "Select image" button and then choose the goldcard image, then click on the "Patch MMC" button and wait for confirmation that it had mad the SD card and goldcard. Disconnect the card reader from the PC and connect it to the Y cable and connect the power source to the Y cable, put the device into "USB host mode" and then connect it to the Y cable and the flash process should begin.
Once the SPL is downgraded you can then install RSPL/HSPL. I recommend to read through the XSPL thread.
Download the XSPL.rar Revision #3 by DFT and extract the contents to a new folder on the desktop.
Put the device into bootloader mode and connect to the PC, run the RSPL wizard and install RSPL first. While the device is still in bootloader mode and RSPL has been successfully installed then run the HSPL wizard and install HSPL.
Download the rom of choice and extract the contents to a new folder on the desktop.
Put the device into bootloader mode and connect to the PC. Run the Ruuwrapper provided with the rom, follow the prompts on the screen and flash the custom rom and enjoy.
If you have any questions or problems just let me know.
Thank alot for your time!
So... the first I need to do is get a USB-cardreader and a Y-Cable. Well, when that´s done I´ll let you know how it works.

[Q] Old HD7 need face lift.

Hi guys I found out that apparently I still have my old HD7 and if possible just a few questions. I deal with android stuf fand have 0 understanding about Windows but I am sure you guys can help me out. My question really on is there a root or jb needed to install cfw and in general what is available cause I don't really see ROMs like I see in my SGS3 section.
So if possible instructions on how to root following HD7 , and I think my sw and rom is really old ... here are specs I hope it's not too old yet usually old rom means better "crackability"
OS Version 7.0.7004.0
Firmware revision number 2250.09.12001.531
Hardware revision number: 0002
Radio Software: 5.51.09.11a_22.31.50.09U
Radio hardware version A.12.0.D4
Bootloader version 1.20.2250.0(111584)
Chip SOC version 2.2.5.0
I can believe I just wrote all this numbers
Anyhow just a hint what people prefer to use cfw wise ...like with sgs3 people like CM10 ....thanks is there cm for hd7 ?
Thank you guys !
Hi,
Yes you can unlock the HD7 and flash custom roms and there are plenty of them available.
There are no CM version roms for the HD7 though but there are some really cool custom OS 7.8 roms and are the most current available, that allow you to customize the size of the home screen tiles...like WP8 with the new start screen. With a custom rom you can, gain root access to the device, install/sideload unlimited homebrew/xap's to the device through a pre-installed xap installer on the device with IE, and much more.
And your right, the older rom/Firmware is easier to crack...and because your bootloader version is 1.20, you won't have to downgrade the devices SPL at all which is the hardest part of unlocking the device.
So all you have to do for your device is -
1a. Make sure you have Windows Mobile Device Center installed for Vista/7 PC or ActiveSync for Windows XP. Connect the device to the PC and allow the Qualcomm drivers to install. This allows for the PC to communicate with the device and install XSPL and flash a custom rom.
1b. Install XSPL (RSPL/HSPL) to the device. (Which is required to install a custom rom)
2. Flash a custom rom of your choice.
Just follow Shadows tutorial from step 17 and on. Download and install XSPL -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295068
I would recommend to read through the XSPL post and make sure that you understand the process as not to damage the device.
Take a look at the rom in my signature for the HD7....it's great and the one that I use.
This is a great rom for the HD7 too -

Thank you very much for your answer. I do have a few questions.
1. Windows Mobile Device Center is designed for W7 Vista and XP right now I am on Windows 8 ( I did download and installed Windows 64 bit version anyway)
2. There are 2 version of same file I see 2 downloadable files DFT_XSPL_WP7FG1 and DFT_XSPL_WP7FG2 yet inside both folders file that I need DFT_RSPL_WP7FG1_LAUNCH.exe is the same in both folders (i didn't check md5 but from looks of it it's the same file in both folders)
3. After connecting phone it starting to charge I see no errors, but after launching DFT_RSPL_WP7FG1_LAUNCH file and clicking next few times it's saying following error:
[Error Description]:
Please make sure that your device connected to computer.
also make sure that right drivers are installed (they comes with WMDC / AS usually)
Try to connect device to different USB port and also you can try to reboot PC.
[Info]: USBWorkRSPL.cpp (184)
I guess because it's not designed for W8. Now I have a choice to do Windows 7 compatibility and stuff but I'd like to consult with you first. I also have Ubuntu handy if it's possible to do it in there ? If impossible I'll just use my laptop and install windows 7 or xp or whatever needed. OR may be VMware on Windows 8 ? ,,,, Anyhow let me know what is my next move should be.
Once again thank you very much !
---------------- UPDATE ------------------
WHAT a No0B I am. Forgot to go in to Power + VDown mode ...... all worked out just fine I have RSPL3.1.2250.0(119314) instead of SPL Next stop ...flashing I guess
Another update all good with HSPL. On Step 38 of guide you provided, You v8 looks good downloading it atm will report on whole thing.
I also see it's possible to install additional card in to HD7, but in that tri color menu on bottom I saw it said SanDisk SD 16xxxxxx MB is that mean I already have extra card inside or it's just reporting on internal memory that showing as SanDisk SD card ?
ROM Downloaded and extracted.
On step 42 Guide mention that I should use task29 to flash my RUU_signed.nbh yet I do not see it included in guide as download link or in ROM pack however I do see ROMUpdateUtility.exe
I will try to find task29 cause ROMUpdateUtility.exe looks very much like official HTC utility that I guess at this point will not help me at all.
Yeah this is not clear. Task29 is for erasing completely everything on the phone yet it does not allow to select .nbh file. IS there a Task29 that designed for HD7 specifically and is there a separate flashing utility ? I think I'll wait for now for answer cause this is kinda important step I don't want to do something I don't completely understand and that guide needs to be fixed cause if Task29 is not for flashing yet only does first part of erasing everything it should say use Task29 to erase and use so and so to flash your .nbh file.
I'll wait for answer, Thank you !
ALL DONE !
Okay a little confusion was on that step because there is actually a custom wrapper for HD7 of Task29 utility and about it erasing everything, well that correct BUT if you have HD7_RUUWrapper_29.exe and RUU_signed.nbh in same folder it just automatically selects it and flash it to device so there are no prompts to select RUU_signed.nbh it simply flash it ... make sure to start HD7_RUUWrapper_29.exe as administrator.
Well done, thank you. Face-lift is not complete.
Awesome... Glad you got it all figured out and enjoy your new rom!!
I seen in one of your posts that you mentioned upgrading the SD card. This is possible, the SD card is technically a part of the file system once installed, therefore it requires a hard reset when installing the new SD card in the device, which will erase all data and apps.
You have to do some disassembly of the back of the device (it's pretty easy) to access the SD card slot.
Your device has a 16gb SD card already installed. With the bootloader version 3.xxx the device will support up to 32gb SD card. I have one installed in my device.
One thing to consider is that WP devices lock the SD card for security reasons and it cannot be read or used by any device or PC other than some Symbian devices.
These are the only methods to unlock the SD card. Flashing a different rom to the device (like Dynamics 7 Mango version which supports custom cabs) before removing the SD card and using WP7 Cab Sender and the Storage Lock Cab. (this is the method that I used) It's a app/program installed on the device that allows the device to unlock or lock the SD card and then allows the SD card to be used or formatted. The other method is removing the SD card from the device and using a Symbian device to unlock the SD card.
If your interested in upgrading the SD card there is a tutorial here -
