So, I got an SGS2 today, my thoughts... - LG Optimus 2x

The IPS screen is truly wonderful on the Optimus 2X, that's basically it's only redeeming feature.
Pros SGS2:
Bigger screen (but worse quality)
Thinner
Lighter
Better performance (stock ICS 4.0.4)
Better battery life
Faster IO - Apps very quick to "install".
The touchkey lights are not as bright as O2X, less annoying, only 2 not 4.
16GB internal
Cons:
Questionable strength, mine has a cracked screen, O2X has not ever cracked despite drops worse than those videos on YouTube.
Screen is really, really bad, I have high standards but christ AMOLED is the worst idea ever...
Battery needs to be removed to get SD card out.
O2X pros:
The screen is nice.
The O2X is more resistant to drops,
Better speaker (loud not call)
Cons:
Basically inferior to the SGS2 in every single way.
Camera is worse.
Heavier
Slower
Antutu benchmark
sgs2: 6595 - stock 100% ics
o2x: 5257 - nightly 08 nov CM10
Camera comparison:
SGS2 is top
o2x bottom
SGS2:
Warm colours, everything detailed nicely.
Wider field of view (Both phones were in same position when photo was taken, more or less. they were ontop of eachother.
LG2x:
Very washed out looking, not a lot of clarity to the image.
http://imgur.com/a/YE9KS
It is difficult to do a comparison, the O2X is a little faster around the operating system, opening/closing apps etc, but that's because of JB I would say.

If you think the SGS2 screen is bad, you should see the PENTILE super amoleds (e.g. gs1, ns)

ugh. I don't want to imagine anything worse than what the SGS2 has.

Yep, x2 feels outdated compared to sgs2
But the sound quality on sgs2 is just unacceptable

Good to know. I was thinking about SGS2 for replacing my O2X because IMHO external speaker of O2X sounds bad (my wife has an Xperia Neo V and to my ears the external speaker sounds better and louder), and knowing this I'll no longer consider SGS2.

Battery? I mean with 3g always on
For me it was a disaster with the LG while the S1 of my father was great, don't know much about the S2

Haven't had it long enough to test battery.
I assume its better just based on my light usage.

I have had enought about these comparisons ..

Compare SGS2 with Ainol Novo 7 Crystal
$100 VS what ever SGS2 price right now
7" VS what ever SGS2 screen is
price to performance ..
i know its not "apple" to "apple" and its ridicilous comparing phones with tablet ..
but you making a new thread for this is silly
comparing phone with "antutu" :cyclops:
but i think yes .. if LG can make the softkey a little bit smaller .. than the screen may have something like 4.3" ,, that must be great ..
but please .. dont make another thread to compare phones .. this is O2X thread ..

IMO amoleds are worst if compared with IPS LCDs
AMOLED = saturated colours
+ black spots on screen(by product of amoled manufacturing processes)
Only good thing about amoleds are contrast ratio is good
I have both optimus 2x n galaxy nexus
And i have my nexus screen and built quality, all plastic

Also in games I notice weird little patches around effects, I just hate this screen lol.
Doubt I'll ever use my 2x again, gave it to my sister. Had no idea how much better the s2 was all this time, should have sold up ages ago, or just paid the extra $100 for the s2 13 months ago when I bought the 2x..

I've had a SGSII and i could say that it is a great phone period. But OX2 It's better in a lot of thing's. Only in battery life, camera and memory is inferior to SGSII

SGSII it's a really good device, but has his problems, it's normal. But you should try cyangalop on OX2

I think buying the 2X was one of the worst decisions in my mobile history. The phone was unnecessarily slow and support was the worst ever. I should have gone with the GS2, but now I'm very satisfied with the GS3. Don't get me wrong, I really tried to get the most out of the 2X, but it's performance frustrated me.

i was talking in general... not reffering to your post...
whole threads like this are offtopic in general - only my 2 cents...

You can't compare a phone to another that is 100 eur more expensive... or... you can compare it... but you would have to try to think in terms of price/quality ratio... and I would say the O2X gives you a pretty good bang for your buck. Of course if it was now I would go for the N4, not even a slightest doubt in my mind.

Milestone's worth buying?

hey guys... i´m from Brazil...
so... it´s not that easy to buy a good android phone with a low price... so...
you guys think that... milestone A853 still a good phone? it worth yet?
cya
it's definitely still a good phone =]
and since it's been rooted there are custom roms and other cool customisations coming out daily!
the a853 is a little powerhouse, too (especially with a good overclock )

I agree....
I mean the level of customization is very high...Basically this is a mini-laptop...And the Qwerty keyboard is great once you get use to it...
Overclocking unveils the power of this phone...
With the New GOT 2.2.1 Release of the Froyo Android and flash support your browsing experience is mostly like on your PC...
I sincerely recommend this phone...I have it for 2 and half months now and I'm very satisfied with it!
i wouldnt buy it if i were u , 256 mb of ram is not enough specially if u use a lot of widgets , besides milestone 2 is coming out this month
If you can get it for a good price, then it's still a fine buy. 256Mb RAM is fine for FroYo. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't understand memory usage.
Once overclocked and running a good ROM, the Milestone is a match for most of the newer and far more expensive (on the secondhand market) Androids.
The Milestone still has the best screen of any Android phone:
- 97% color gamut, more accurate and better than the iPhone 4
- almost 1,500:1 static contrast, higher than iPhone 4 and destroys crap like the Xperia X10
- true multi-touch screen, a rarity with Androids.
Of course, the Milestone 2 is a significant upgrade in speed, memory, and camera, but it is not cheap.

better than the galaxy s? it has more constrast than the phone i agree on that one , i compared the black levels with my ipod touch 4 and the milestone indeed has deeper blacks but youre forgetting about the and what about the HORRIBLE color banding?
Yes, better than the Galaxy S: http://www.displaymate.com/Smartphone_ShootOut_1.htm
The color banding issue is not because of the Milestone's LCD but is due to Android's awful 16-bit Gallery. Even FroYo has this problem. Google is responsible for this and needs to fix it.
The Milestone 2 uses the same LCD as the Milestone.
Personally, I prefer the iPhone 4's display to anything else on the market because of its low reflectance (awesome for outdoor usage) and high resolution, but the Milestone has higher contrast and higher color gamut than the iP4.
I still believe that the Milestone/Milestone 2 is the best Android display there is because they have better contrast and higher DPI than the Droid X. I do not like the Galaxy S screen at all for reading text.

I will agree that the Milestone screen is very nice. I would have loved it if my Nexus One used that screen. I hate the AMOLED used in current phones. Stupid PenTile pixel arrangement makes text look like CRAP.
When overclocked, the CPU in the Milestone is no problem.
256MB RAM though is a bit of an issue. It will run any program fine, but it will start closing background tasks far earlier than phones with 512MB will. You might be in the browser, switch to facebook, and then back to the browser and notice it reloading everything because it shut it down.

i love the iphone screen, i dont like the size tough, nothing beat 4 inches
as far as i know the superamoled does NOT use pentile, am i wrong?
It's a great phone, limited only by your own ability to realize it's potential. Launcher pro, android agenda widget, weather and toggle widget, note everything.. Build your device to your needs!

Yes, the Galaxy S uses pentile matrix. Read that article.
I've owned 3 different versions of the phone, so believe me, I know.
Anyway, I feel that 4-inches is too large for 800x480. I used to believe that 960x640 is too high for 3.5" on the iP4, but it really does look wonderful, even for tiny text. There is no need to zoom in on most web pages.

3 versions of the phone? u mean captivate, vibrant, etc? yes the iphone screen is effing awesome, so crisp, too bad the black levels are HORRIBLE
The iP4's black levels are acceptable for an LCD: http://www.anandtech.com/show/3903/apples-ipod-touch-2010-review-not-a-poor-mans-iphone-4/2
It's the iTouch 4 whose LCD is awful. Its black levels are about as bad as the old iPhone!
I was going to get an iTouch and just use a cheap CrapBerry but just couldn't live with the iPod's awful blacks and low contrast.

f*ck! i feel deceived! i swore it was the same display, no wonder the black levels look horrible to me , why isnt this mentioned on the ipods reviews? and dont it evne get me started on the camera my milestone takes better pics and videos! ohhh apple
I to recommend this phone. I am very happy with it. Battery life isn't the most stellar, but not a "deal-breaker" for me. With some creative fine-tuning of the settings, I will get more "mileage" out of the battery.
The keyboard took a little getting used to, but once accustomed to it, it works great. The only other phone I would look at other than this one is either the new Milestone 2 (more expensive) and the HTC Desire Z. The keyboard on it is quite nice. Personally, I need a physical keyboard for my phones that I use, so that limits me on what I can use in Android phones.
I traded my Nokia N900 for the Milestone, couldn't be happier.
I was jealous at the speed and smoothness of my friend's iPhone 4, but then I installed LauncherPro - let me tell ya, I'm not jealous anymore haha. I think's he's gonna be jealous at mine pretty soon for the speed and the fact that I do with it whatever I want - It's my device, unlike how all iPhones don't really belong to you but to Apple.
Also to note the incredible build quality and aluminum chasis - it really feels like a premium device (which it is)
Apple had to use a much cheaper LCD for the iPod Touch because reportedly, the IPS panel in the iPhone 4 costs $90 (approx.) just for the part alone. There's no way that Apple can make a profit off the iPod Touch by using the same panel.
The new Touch is still a nice upgrade over the old one. It just isn't anywhere near the iPhone 4.

Free Thinking Festival: Optimus Black

Hello to everyone!
I have open this topic to tell everyone that I admire my phone. I care about it, and you do?
This thread is about you're expectations, doubts, positive and negative feedbacks.
It's all about Optimus Black.
As for me I'm waiting now for gingerbread update.
And I'm looking for a compatible headset for my lg.

+1 for this
But as they say p970 it has goot hardware
Hardware, most are good except battery is suck (software prob i think) & VGA is very old, PowerVR 530... at first i was hoping 535 or 540. But well, i barely use my phone for games.
Very like the phone design, also I love IPS panel for sure

good phone with some glitches
the phone is having a very good display, a great slim streamline body, the best front facing camera, the primary camera is having rich colors too.
however, what hangs the phone down is the bad s/w support, tinny(although loud) speakers, the LG Bloatware, fingerprint prone back panel and a bad battery. i have 2 charge it every night
and oh! the GPU is not powerful enough, i bought this phone mistaking the Sgx530 as the SGX540 (the one in the SGS). although, i don't regret buying it. primarily due to the awesome display
I bought this phone the P970 to replace my older GT i9000 Galaxy S1
Hardware wise i love it but software wise its not so good
So i bought a Galaxy S 2 as main phone
Even now when i hold the P970 in my hand this phone feels better and more comfortable fit than Galaxy S2
Dont get me wrong Galaxy S2 is probably the best android phone out there but the P970 aint that far behind I love both phones just Samsung have better on time updates
Its a shame if the P970 came shipped with Android 2.3 it would have been a massive hit
even my old service provider Tmobile dont have it listed now as one of their phones now online for sale anymore
LG have a lot to learn
Was speaking to LG support yesterday according to them the update we are all waiting for is ready on their end now it is being tested by service providers and once the approval is sent back to LG then it will be ready for people to update , they say it is imminent
I live in a hostel, and i have almost all smartphones in my building under a roof.
And all i can say about Optimus Black is that it has the best display out there in market. I have compared the 720p movies hand-on-hand with Sensation XE (htc flagship), Galaxy S2 (Samsung flagship) and Arc S (SonyErricson flagship). And not only me, but the owners of those mobiles themselves frankly admitted that Optimus Black is the most fabulous while watching movie.
And also another thing, many smartphones of today, when you use outdoors in sunlight, well, i've seen too many people keeping their palms on mobile to avoid direct sunlight falling on mobile. But with Optimus Black, i can see crystal clear in daylight without slightest discomfort.
Every mobile has its goods and bads, and i'm happy with my OB for the good it brings.
pros : slim, good material, wifi direct, nice display, the only one with neutral colors and pure white (better render than AMOLED), camera is also one of the best on phones market
cons : software, battery, 1gb of ram would have been better, no TV out, not dustproof
the worst thing after all for me is that we have to keep the phone ON to use alarms (is it the case for all androphones ?)

Yes, I think so.
I've had my OB for about two months now and I can't possibly state how happy I am with it !
It's great ! Isn't it just great, you guys ?
The battery lasts a lot more than my old Blackberry's, the display is huge, shiny and the colors are vivid. Game performance is astonishing and I love the Dolby mobile option for Music and Videos.
All in all, a great phone !

It's a nice phone, slim and slick
but one thing (AFAIK) if you use the official ROM, there won't be any recovery access like key combination
you have to flash additional recovery from huexxx (one of our member here )
and about the update, i hope you're the patience one
custom ROMS ?
lemme count
1. Pay's
2. Nova
3. CM7
4. Modded CM7
5. Official GB repacked
6. Zeus
7. Marvel
CMIIW
it's a good phone for the price...... (as long as u get it dirt cheap) otherwise.. get htc... don't touch this phone with a long pole... or if you have the money.. just buy apple... it's still far more *refined* then android any day
or just get the galaxy s plus its in the same price catagory but its much faster cuz it has got an 1,4Ghz processor and the amazing amoled screen
SGS plus has overclocked CPU, you can overclock black to 1. 2 or more so no big diffrence. SGS has imho worst gpu. About screen... i think amoled make everythink looks artifictial.
Screen is good (don't start me on amoled screens just take amoled screen out in the sun on a bright sunny day and try to read a message , even not being gorilla glass after a year without screen protector there hardly any visible scratches and i have it with my keys most of the time.
Hardware is not bad but not that good either.
But it is so light and thin that it is worth it.
Main issue is the LG support and the update speed, and so far the small number of developers, which compensate with some good work when there is a new release.

hey
I recommand OP Black. It's very slim , easy and stylish.
LGUpdates came very slow hope that we'll get 4.0 in Octomber 2012 not January 2013(like 2.3.4)
now, if i were u, i would have gone for the original S.Galaxy S(i9000). it's available in India in the same price range.
it has identical specs but MUCH MUCH MUCH powerful GPU & loads of custom ROMs.
do not go for the overclocked (1.4Ghz one) Galaxy plus as there is report of overheating.
or, if its about a hard awesome sturdy cell, simply get the DEFY (it's 15.3K as in west bengal). DEFY has so many ROMs that you'll get puzzled counting. lol

well...then i feel SE NEO V should be a good trade, eh??...already sporting ICS, nice sexy look and i have heard remotely that it can be (am nt sure) overclocked to 1.9 Ghz???!!!...a balanced cell that...
I wouldn't buy it again.
Most of the ROM sucks.
- Nova ROM was on a good way, but development stopped when CM7 arrived
- CM7 is still not really stable
- Official ROMs are really slow, no matter Froyo/Gingerbread
- Zeus ROM could become good, but still it's slow compared to CM7
- I haven't tested Marvin ROM or whatever it's called
Optimus Black could be a good phone, but it was too expensive when it was new, so nobody bought it, which lead to a small developer base, and here we are. I have that phone for almost a year now I think, and it still sucks ass.
Honestly, if you can get it cheap, it's not a bad phone. If had the choice again, I'd always buy a Nexus. Edit: Or anything with _proper_ CM support.

Lol my bad. Had it for nearly a year and always thought it didn't have gorilla glass. As when it came out it wasn't very clear of it was or it wasn't.
One time my black fell on the solid floor and it didn't even have a scratch! I was afraid to look because I thought that the screen is broken for sure (because of the impact and the sound).

Planning on buying a xperia z.

I'm planning on buying a xperia z, but with all upgrades there's a few things I have to check before I can commit on buying a new phone.
1 - how stable are the cm10.2 builds ? Such as battery performance ?
2 - battery performance on stock firmware ?
Screenshots would be great...

The battery life is pretty bad OP to answer your question honesty. Also the screen is poor, which may bother you. (very bad contrast and viewing angles). Aside from that it is good. Great design, definitely turns heads
Go look at battery tests, S4 sits as one of the top.
Also op, if you get one without an unlockable bootloder (like myself), you'll never even get to try cm
Well I had 7 h screen on time, and one day < battery. Way better than my sgs2 had.

yep, two people on this site get battery life like this...
Seems legit.
Go check any battery tests on gsmarena, etc.. Did not fare especially well.
I mean it isn't horrid, but 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours of screen on time isn't anything to write home about
Depends
Depends on how you intend on using it.
If you're a avid gamer, then I probably would not recommend it. Battery life when gaming is average or below average.
However if you're not, and gaming is reserved for the tablet, then I highly recommend it.
Aside from being one of the most beautiful phones out there, you can get it for quite a good price now. Performance is, honestly, all you really need at the moment.
Despite what people say, the screen is very sharp (admittedly viewing angles are not the best, but it's not a concern for me as I pretty much always view it front on. Also when you think about it, you get more privacy).
Battery life is not bad at all (if you don't run heavy games all the time). On screen time varies and can be between 3.5 - 5 hours or so, but don't be obsessed with the times though, just enjoy it. Unless you have nothing to do all day then it's quite hard to run out of battery during the day. Talk times and quality are pretty good.
Loving my Z, I can't say that this phone is the best at anything, but all together as a package it's quite awesome. Waterproofing is a bonus.
Give it a 0.2 mm thick back cover, custom rom, maybe a sound mod and I guarantee you won't regret buying one!
Coming from my beloved ville, I'm just looking at phones with 2gigs of ram and a quad cpu, and good dev support. its between these 4 phones at the moment
-nexus 4 (mainly for support and xda support)
-s3 i9305 ( better then the s3 as it was an extra gig of ram)
-note 2 (big ass screen)
-Sony xperia z (1080 screen)
Im not the hugest phone gamer, i mainly use my device for Instagram, tumblr, and other networking apps. Iv watched a few reviews on all 4 phones and I'm kinda leaning towards the s3 and the sony ATM. Its just the screen problems (battery drain, and poor viewing angles)

My advice is not to be overly fussy about what you're looking at. By the time you decide, a bunch of new phones will be released and you'll have to start all over again.
IMO all 4 phones have all the goods you need to do what you want. For what you want to do, battery life on all 4 would be sufficient for a whole day.
They are really not all that different unless you go into the tiny details. Honestly, in my experience, being overly focused on the details will make you regret your purchase no matter what you buy.
I understand why iPhone lovers can be much less stressed with their phone choice because there is really no choice for them. I prevents them from feeling bad about making the wrong decision We all know that the iPhone is not the best but it's owners are happy. For android lovers there is a paradox of choice........ which in this case is a bad thing.
So try to look at it a different way.
Since it will be with you everyday, think about which phone matches you as a person, just like when you're choosing clothes, or a car. E.g if your practical or stylish. Reckless or careful etc.
I got the Z because I like style. You may think it may be a bit superficial but the viewing angles are really irrelevant when you think about it. When would you ever need wide viewing angles anyway? It's not like you have a group of 4-5 friends watching a movie on it all the time (if at all). I don't see anyone tilting their phones at an angle to use it. TV, yes, but phone, no. Everything is pretty much on par with the rest of them (except for maybe battery life on the Note 2, but it's too big IMO)
Trust me. Thinking about it this way will allow you to enjoy your phone more and not regret buying it.
If you ask me, I would recommend the XZ, S3, Nexus 4, Note 2 in that order.

It isn't just viewing angles though, the screen is extremely washed out looking with bad contrast.
But view angles matter if, for example, your phone is laying down on your desk and you turn it on to glance at the time, a text message, etc.. It isn\t extreme angles, it is unreadable if you aren't looking at it directly on.
I own a note 2 and this phone, I wish I could have the two make a baby.
I love the design of this phone, but the screen really gets me down :/
Spending that much money, you shouldn't have to "settle"

Coming from my beloved ville, I'm just looking at phones with 2gigs of ram and a quad cpu, and good dev support. its between these 4 phones at the moment
-nexus 4 (mainly for support and xda support)
-s3 i9305 ( better then the s3 as it was an extra gig of ram)
-note 2 (big ass screen)
-Sony xperia z (1080 screen)

Any of those will preform better than the z, and will have much nicer screens.
Get the z only if fashion over function is your thought process (you want a nice looking phone, until you turn it on)

I don't believe this at all lol
The battery life is pretty bad OP to answer your question honesty. Also the screen is poor, which may bother you. (very bad contrast and viewing angles). Aside from that it is good. Great design, definitely turns heads
Go look at battery tests, S4 sits as one of the top.
Also op, if you get one without an unlockable bootloder (like myself), you'll never even get to try cm

well... at first my s4 got 4 hours of screen time (set on low brightness) after a couple of months it was 2,5.. the samsung batteries are very bad..
the screen is poor... yes... but i like it better, the screen is more visible in the sun compared to the s4... i dont really like the oversaturated screen of the s4 anyway... so win win
great design... that is one of the things.. and waterproof... that was actually why i wanted to change... on my s4 i always ended up hitting the screen when touching the damn buttons and it made me angry in the end.
what amazes me.. is that the camera is the same but samsung has made a better firmware.. the camera works very well on s4.. and the z has a very poor camera compared... focus is not great, black dots etc, low light grain and such... EXMOR surely is just a name.. not worth anything imo

Strange must have been a rogue app, I've had my note since it came out and battery life is the same as it was.
You can change to natural mode in screen settings to completely get rid of the oversaturation.
I definitely agree the z's design is amazing. Easily one of the nicest, if not the nicest, looking android phones there is.
What I don't get is why there is macro mode on Samsung but not Sony :/

I'm planning on buying a xperia z, but with all upgrades there's a few things I have to check before I can commit on buying a new phone.
1 - how stable are the cm10.2 builds ? Such as battery performance ?
2 - battery performance on stock firmware ?
Screenshots would be great...

It's a good phone for the price. It's got a sd slot which is always appreciated. Performance is fine and it's got 2gb ram, that will make it last at least 2 years.
The screen is fine for me. Yes, viewing angles aren't great but nothing to worry about, unless you watch very dark movies at night.
Battery is average, standby time is quite good, screen time goes from 2h - 5h depending on what you do.
Haven't tried cm10.2 but Sony stock firmware is quite vanilla.
It all depends on what do you want, how much do you want to spend, etc.

macro mode? in what way?
well... the phone was deep sleeping properly... so i dont know why the battery was that bad... at least now i can say that my phone has used 60% for 2 hours 10 minutes screen time, 1 hour of calls, sms and web usage... with 2 days of standby... i am not unhappy with that.
all stock.. no root or anything.. i have relocked as i need to get the camera fixed... as i have quite a few black dots... when i get it back.. i will root and unlock the bootloader..

I get about 8 hours of screen on time on my note over 2 days or so. Best battery life I've ever had by far.
By macro mode I mean in the camera, you cannot take true macro pics.
I can't unlock bootloader, I have a bell z :/

Well, just one thing to contrast. Even the xperia s has a "numberous" higher contrast, in real life it is another story. The display is quite bright and colours are natural. Contrast is good enough for meh.

What you expect from the New Nexus 5?

There's always expectations when new phones like Nexus are close to be released, so I'm curious about what people is waiting for:
like 20 MegaPixel camera, Fingerprint recognition, USB, Bluethoot, 3 GiB of ram, Free google TV (Nice), Diferent USB charger, Front camera Flash, Multi Window (Like samsung) I don't know soo many thinks....
I know you're new here man so I won't be a douche but we pretty much know already what specs the phone will have.
It should be not expensive

What I expect from the new Nexus 5? A crappy camera to continue the tradition.
good price
AVAILABILITY upon launching
I expect it to be so cool that the girls will rush me everywhere I have it!
Hopefully better battery life and OTG support without the need of a external battery source.

Agree and you know it will. I'm still perplexed by people who say they aren't impressed with the specs.
I expect the exact same experience as with my Nexus 4 but faster due to the new cpu and Android 4.4, 30minutes more screen on time, 32gb internal storage, slightly louder speaker due to having dual speakers but not very good either, camera quality should be as good as the Samsung Galaxy S3 but probably not comparable to latest flagship phones. And it will have USB OTG this time, it better or I'll stick with my N4.
I'm so excited for the Nexus 5. I've heard it'll even make your D bigger, cure cancer and cuddle afterwards.
I heard they made a deal with Gillette so they can incorporate the latest fusion pro blade in the phone. How awesome is that?!

Pls have Batterie life like LG G2 aka 8hours Screen 3000mah Battery
Why does Nexus phones have such horrible Battery life
good battery life , good camera , an extended update cycle , no bloatware , and no locking whatsoever. Other things go without saying such as a fast processor a good amount of ram ...

A bigger battery would almost certainly mean a slightly thicker phone. The 1750 battery in my Galaxy Nexus I find more than adequate to last me a day in most cases. Under heavy use, closer to half a day. I have an extra battery though that I usually carry when I think I won't have time to charge it for the rest of the day, just in case.
Good battery life and extreme smoothness
