I've been testing 4.2 multiuser support because I want to keep my work stuff separate from my other stuff. The idea is I can install all my games etc on my regular account, and keep the work related apps and files in the work account.
I set up the two accounts, which work fine. I then restored various apps to my regular account via Titanium Backup. However when I logged back to my work account, all those apps were available.
This shouldn't be the expected behaviour, as I installed firefox from the play store on my regular account, and it wasn't available on the work account. The good thing however is that when I then installed firefox from the play store on the work account it didn't download anything, it just made it available.
Hopefully Titanium Backup can be updated to work around this. The issue is that the file system is structured differently for 4.2, and the apps are being restored to the 'old' locations.
Otherwise our pre-4.2 backups may have to be trashed.
What if you restore then add an user?

I recently rooted my Droid 1 with One Click and now have Super User access. From there I grabbed an Milestone Overclocking app to simplify speeding up the phone, (as I have mentioned in other threads I am completely out of my element with phones since they don't have a internal combustion engine) as well as Root Exlorer from the market. Then I went into the world of deleting .apk files that I had read here that were unnecessary and completely safe to remove. Along with those I also got rid of, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Amazon MP3. Since this I have not been able to get past "Getting Driving Directions" on my Navigation. I have checked with others I work with and they had some issues as well with Navigation over the past week. Both Droid 1 and 2 users reported the same issues of screen stall to me. As of Friday one of the users of Droid 2 let me know that his Nav was once again working properly, mine is still not. Did I overdo it on deleting and get rid of something that is causing this problem? My Maps still give proper directions from my location, (no matter where I am at the time of testing) but once going into Nav, stalls. If I did get rid of too many how can I get those files back to my phone so everything works again as desired? I am now left with the following .apk files (.odex files as well):

Alright, I will leave you all alone and continue being a gearhead, drinker and general knuckle-dragger until more questions of me are asked or answers are available, thank you all again for all of your help!
hmm....i delete over 100 apps from delfy but if you delete all of it you will lost may fuctions
You wiped too much. Some apps are both app (as per UI for user) as data providers for certain functionality. You can tell that by looking in Manifest but you have to have enough knowledge to judge. Rule of tumb is to always move stuff off-side (i.e. to SD card folder) and not removing directly as you got no way back in case of failure, especially sometimes you may find out something does not work far too late. I wiped crap like GMail or Navigation and other 3rd party useless apps but I'd suggest to stay away from removing apps that may offer ecosystem functionality. Potential savings (like 200KB) vs time wasted on restoration is simply not worth for most cases.
Corp Cal - Corporate Calendar. Requires Exchange server. Probably safe to remove but again - do you *really* needs that to be removed?
Thank you for the info. Where would I be able to find all the original system apps so that I can add them all back and delete more carefully next time?
Hello All,
I need some help. I am currently on XDABEB 2.2.0 ROM. Recently I have started having issues with my paid apps not working saying that the Play Store is reporting a license error. I have both the N7 player and the unlocker purchased and installed but the player does not recognize the unlocker installed. It says I have to purchase the unlocker (which I already have) and takes me to the play store where i get an option to uninstall or open. I have tried deleting app data, cache, changing roms after full wipe etc.
Same problem with Nova Launcher Prime. It gives a message saying Google Play Store is reporting a license error.
I have been using these apps for close to 2 years and have never had this issue before.
Any help?
Thanks,
Anytime you clean flash a rom, you receive a new Android ID. Some paid apps use this ID. If you use Titanium Backup you can restore your previous ID. You'd think that the apps would be attached to your account... Which they are for the most part... I've always found it odd, but restoring my previous ID with TiBU has always fixed it. I had an app have a splash screen thinking me for the purchase of the pro version, but all of the pro options remained unusable until I restored my previous ID. I'm not sure what to do if that doesn't work for you. Contact the developer of both and explain the situation.

Hey guys, im having an issue i would like to share with you.
I got my Oreo update (finally) yesterday so i made a bckup, updated my phone and then i factory reseted it. So far so good, everthing went smooth, but....
Before update (on N 7.1) I used to use an app to create a "parallel space" and clone apps such as whatsapp, telegram, etc.., since my phone has dual sim, i now use one device for my personal/work phone numbers, so, the ability to clone apps its essential. Unfortunately with the Oreo update it seems like apps are now not allowed to use "play services", i got them cloned but cant pull any backup (for whatsapp) or login (ie. cloning youtube and login with a different account to have access to different subscriptions; cloning whatsapp and pulling a backup from google drive; cloning games and pulling anything that is there to pull from google games; etc).
Any thoughts? i paid for Parallel Space app so i most likely will wait for developers to find a solution but in the meanwhile im unable to use any cloned app properly and since its work related i would really apreciate any idea, cloning app sugestion, anything would be apreciated
Use Island app, works fine on oreo

Runs great i just need to figure how to syncronyze google accounts into the island so i can retrieved my contacts
thanks buddy, Island is a nice alternative since it doesnt mean extra storage use when cloning an app (apparently).
When doing a factory reset, it asks about restoring apps, etc. I check yes.
Then it seems it's doing it again through Samsung when I login to Samsung during setup.
Are redundant restores happening? Should I should one and not the other?
Any thoughts?
Yes they are basically redundant. I do both to restore as much data as possible and save myself some effort setting everything back up.
I use both also, often feel I'm wasting time but who knows.

its all about freshness.
so appart from apps, one thing samsung offers that goofle dosent is if u use stock launcher, homescreen layout and wallpaper and aod get restored. same goes for keyboard and related custom data associated to it if you use stock input.
wifi and bluetooth pairings would also be restored too, not to mention alarms also.
So in essence if one believes their next device is going to be another Samsung then perhaps best disable most if not all of the Google backup and restore options? If anything perhaps more added battery life perhaps.

well knowing google, apps are tagged from the playstore as being installed.( app library vs installed).so backups arent done on/from your device. when restoring they check last device ID and match the associated installed app from your library.
anyways thats what i think. so all in all not sure if disabling it would help or not.
BUT again, its all about the freshness.
which service offers the very last apps you installed?
but one thing to rhink about is: samsung will restore google play and samsung store apps.
where as whit Google, i think would only restore playstore apps(since they just check playstore library associated to device ID).
I was also referring to other things Google also backup. Turning these off.

so this just in, samsung backup dosent restore app data where as google does. so this means apps are restored but none of the custom data)settings) is actually restored (like rooted people do with titanium backup).
edit i should mention that i was on android pie doing a backup using smart switch. it asked me where i wanted it and i chose my ext sd card. unpon flashing a new rom and setting it up, i used again smart switch to to restore this time, so i chose the sd card logo at the the top right of the screen and it took a while. so not sure how this backup /restore method differs from the regular samsung cloud ...but it did not restore app data. since it was local i am a bit flabbergasted by these findings. would have expected data since google restores it from the network and does include it....i wont try the other regular method via Samsung cloud since the space allotted is limited to around 10 or 15 gig.in comparison my local backup with smart switch took over 25 gb(got 400+ apps) so thats why im not expecting any better viaa regular cloud sync... but we never know. maybe someone with a smaller volume of content can offer some results.
oh and on the flip side, samsung restores more apps than googles does. i suspect it dosnt check for the playstore app signature and just blindly backups all user apps.. just a darn shame about the data part...(not user settings data like passwords and for wifi and bluetooth pairing but acctual applicaion data)
just wanted to share my findings with you guys
google play back will restore all apps downloaded from the play store but it will not restore any app downloaded from other sources like galaxy apps or aptoide
samsung backup and restores all the apps that are installed on your devices regardless of where it came from
so usually i will let google restore my apps so that i will get the latest apps from the store then i will restore from samsung cloud to get the extra apps i installed from other sources plus my apps folders

wow this is news to me !
I am used to having my phone auto-install all the apps that I am using whenever I add my account on a new device. Of course it has to be the same account, but it has worked seamlessly for more than 10 years.
Today I got a shiny new S21 Ultra and added my Google account and unfortunately it is not auto-installing my apps.
Is there a button somewhere I can use to prompt it to start doing this or am I going to have to manually add each and every app back one by one from the play store?
Thank you!
It's Samsung trying to forces us to use there apps and ecosystem.

If you made a backup of your last phone and included apps, you could restore it... If not, one by one...
I think I know what is different.
In the past, I used to remove my account from my old phone before I added it to my new phone.
This time since I keep the old phone, my account is still on it. I think Google is trying to be clever and not automatically transfering all my apps because the old device is still active.
You have to restore a device (device a to device b) for the restore to install the current apps. Nothing to do with signing into the phone, only does it on a restore of a backup. I have hundreds of "installed apps" across devices from current to destroyed. Thankfully google play store does not try to reinstall them, that would be a nightmare deleting them all.
