Here's reviews talking poor bat life: Surprising consider the big battery and supposedly more efficient processor architecture? The graphs on the Anandtech review are especially alarming. Processor benchmarks look great. Maybe there's settings other than screen brightness that you can used to combat the mediocre battery life? I won't be using the phone for gaming or watching movies.

Waiting to see people who are using this for a few days are seeing it be disappointing compared to Galaxy S3, HTC One X+, iPhone 5 and/or iPhone 4?
Side story:
HTC One X+ one the way from AT&T. It's the One X with bigger battery, faster processor, and 64GB memory. Coming from iPhone 4 (tired of waiting for jailbreaks). I disregarded the Nexus 4 due to lack of LTE. But frankly, I don't do a whole lot on my phone that needs blazing download speeds and looked at some HPSA+ speed tests and figure LTE isn't that important.
If I throw out the desire for LTE seems I should just take the One X+ into the AT&T store for my one-time exchange, exchange for an iPhone 5, sell it on Ebay for $900-$1100 depending on mem config. and get an unlocked Nexus 4 8GB for $299 and make a nice little profit! Plus get Jelly Bean 4.2, not manufacturer-specific overlay, and first updates in the future! While lack of LTE is no biggie, mediocre battery will get on my nerves.
I got the phone today at around 10 AM, when it was about 75 percent charged. It's only down to 20% at 7PM. I haven't really done much but I'll give a more accurate reading tomorrow evening. I had it occasionally plugged into the computer to run ADB and Fastboot so it may have been partially charged during that time.

I dont think you will get even close to that much for an iPhone 5. Apple sells them for 699-899. Granted they have a couple week delay. But all the ones on eBay are a max of $100 over msrp, on average. Also, I don't think att would let you exchange the one x for a 64gb iPhone straight up. The 64gb sells for $399 on contract from att. So, you would only be able to exchange for the 8 GB.
So I figure you paid 200 for the ox+, plus the 300 for the n4, so by the time everything is said and done you would maybe be looking at a +$200-250. The question is, is it worth it to you to be tied into a 2year contact for that?
It is a nice sum of cash, but I hate being on contract

Holy crap, I must have misread somewhere that the Nexus 4 had a micro SD slot. It doesn't! I've got 15GB in MP3/m4a'S alone! This thing is a toy with that kind of memory. Google must assume you are going to have a constant Wi-Fi or 3G connection to stream your music from Google Play (and not go over your carrier's data limit). Insane. Keeping the One X+. I'll wait for a Nexus 4 with more memory and hopefully LTE at some point.

I have 40 GB of music...people just need to learn to cut the amount of music/media by a factor of 10. Perfect!
One of the interesting things from the tear-down in Anandtech was how easy it seems to be to get to the battery compared to the Razr.

No, people don't because most people don't have 40gb of music, let alone think to store it on their phone. I can understand why it may be a problem for you, but it definitely isn't for most people.

40gb at 10mb a song is 4,000 songs which is 16,000 minutes or 266 hours of music at 4 minutes a song. Surely you'll survive with less. Next you'll complain the battery doesn't last 11 days.
And the only thing people need to learn how to do is buy the device that is right for them and stop complaining about those that aren't when there's plenty of choice in the market.
Unless you're from one of the countries with government mandated Nexus 4 devices, in which case I apologize.
Did we really need another post regarding battery life?
And really there is no way you have 40gb of good music. Half that stuff has to be garbage........
Jebus! I thought this was a battery life thread not a no SD slot is a problem thread.
I really don't see how in the world people would even want to fit their ENTIRE music library on there smartphone... 15 or even 20GB's of music is surely insane... I know for sure you don't listen to over 80% of your library.. Want something that holds your music? Get an iPod, it was made for that. Want it on your phone? Buck into unlimited data plans on T-Mobile or (like me ) got luckily grandfathered on AT&T unlimited data.
If you have 15GB's of music "ALONE" then I don't even think a 32GB model would do it for you..
Cut down on music, and listen to what your realistic playlist is
If not, as I said before, get a cheap iPod on eBay, and you can carry that around with you if you desperately need your entire music library on you 24/7...

Agreed. I have over 500gb of mp3 collection but a 16gb of storage is more than enough for me. Why?
I don't freaking put all the songs on my phone.
I stream most of the time(Don't bull about data cap, unless you stream exclusively on data, the consumption won't be 2gb at most. And you can use wifi whenever possible.)
When I can't stream, I put enough music on the phone which is far less than 16gb. (an mp3 album at good quality is around 60mb~150mb which is around one hour length. For 1 gb storage, you could get almost 10 hours' non-stop music. What's the possibility you will be on the road 10 hours non-stop?)
I don't watch movies on phone. (a 2gb HD movie makes no difference on a small screen from a DVD rip, plus video playback drains battery like hell.)
After all, people complain just because they are entitled or lazy, or in good cases, just less informed and savvy.

My current cell phone is the Nexus 1. I'm rooted and running the latest stable version of Cyanogen mod. My phone has a constant alert regarding memory running low and it gets really slow at times. Battery life is good, but my charge plug is a little broken (usb cable falls out if you shake it around while plugged in).
My dilemma is on what to buy...
I love the specs, size, upgradability, and stylus that the Note has to offer. The Note is a huge upgrade from the Nexus 1, but at the same time I really want a tablet. I mainly use my nexus 1 to watch movies and play games. I barley use it to actually make a phone call or browse the internet. I think a tablet would make this experience much more enjoyable compared to the Note, but at the same time the screen on the note is so large that maybe it would be acceptable enough for my needs...
I can always use my nexus 1 to make phone calls and returns txts while using the Transformer prime to watch movies, play games, and surf the web via tethering, but I can't carry the Transformer with me everywhere I go like I could with a Galaxy Note.
To those with the Note. Is it a suitable device for gaming and movie watching? Would you prefer to use a tablet for these tasks or is the Note surprisingly comparable?
There are other factors involved as well. I'm on T-Mobile and will only have 2g if I get the Note. The Note is also ~$700 off contract compared to the Transformer which is $500 and would be able to tether off my 3g HSPA Nexus 1.
I have a bunch of trade offs and I'm having trouble deciding what will be best. I'm hoping you guys can help me out.
I was wondering the same thing and ideally I'd like to try them both in person to make that decision but I may end up getting both. They are both the most innovative of their respective form factors IMO.
Reading Amazon reviews among others you see people saying they use their other devices including tablets to a far lesser extent now that they have the SGNote so it might seem logical to consider it first if you're on a tight budget but I still find it hard to believe it could replace the Asus Transformer Prime especially with its dock when not highly mobile.
Good luck & let us know what you decide..
---------- Post added at 04:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:01 PM ----------
BTW I doubt I would consider the SGNote for T-Mobile, 2G is too slow IMO.
Its pretty suitable for movie watching, I just bought this phone as my portable media device but I think the transformer prime would give a better over all experience as the screen is bigger, the only realy benefit SAMOLED gives is deeper blacks.

Sounds right, curious if the SAMOLED's less than natural colors ever bothers you, they seem to bother me on the lower resolution SAMOLED phones but a bit less on the same res but lower pixel density Tab 10.1 screen (I prefer Transformer's IPS for a tablet)? -Thx
Hello,
I have an iPad 1 at home as well as a SG Note. So I'd say I could help you with your little dilemma
Actually I have to say that watching a movie with 5.3'' screen is not that comfortable. So if you really want to watch movies in first place I'd tell you to buy the Transformer Prime.
On the other hand you have your phone always with you so you could watch movies or series whenever wherever - as you said you won't have the Prime always with you.
But since I bought the Note my iPad lies at home nearly all the time not being used much - the Note is big enough to surf on the internet and movies are watchable as well - even though its not as comfortable as it is using the iPad.
But you have to think about the battery life as well; even though the Note has an awesome battery life, watching movies will kill your battery pretty fast....
So - to come to a conclusion - best is to buy both but the Note will be more useful since you'll always have your phone with you!
Let me know about your final decision
why not wait for the asus padfone, best of both worlds. at the moment, its still using a tegra 3 quad core 1.5ghz chip with 1gb ram and 12 cuda core gpu.
Why not pick up an evo view (sprint's version of the flyer) for under $250. 7" screen, 32gb on board. Screen is nice and bright. I ditched all my other tablets outside of the touchpad and pretty much carry it everywhere. Should be getting honeycomb soon which will bring more functionality to the scribe pen too.

I do like that Asus is not afraid to innovate but I'm not sold on the Padfone's compromises & rumored price point ($800-$1000), if something happens to your phone the tablet becomes a paperweight.
I think the slim Transformer Prime with its battery-port extending slim keyboard is more innovative without compromises at competitive pricepoints. Redundancies in hardware+cloud based software-data should work well unless the budget is tight and user is willing to accept compromises in form & function.
I still would enjoy a projector in my handheld like the Samsung Beam but I don't think it ever made it out of Singapore but let see what happens at the next CES & MWC..
New information regarding a Google Tablet within the next 6 months just came out today. This definitely makes me lean more toward the note right now. Anyone using it on T-Mobile's network? How is the 2G?
Screw it! I decided to go with the note. I should have it delivered it my door tomorrow (I love amazon prime).
I'm going to stick with tmobile for now. If the 2G gets to be unbearable then I'll suck it up and cancel my plan and move to AT&T.
Thanks everyone for their replies in this thread.

If Google didn't buy Motorola they should have backed Asus with their innovative Transformer Prime. They are using Samsung for its Nexus line so they should support the Transformer Prime more, maybe Asus could have hit their target dates better. Their tablet market share is still not taken seriously vs their dominant smartphone market share.
2012 looks like it will offer higher res tablet displays than currently available. SGNote has same 1280 x 800 res as Transformer Prime which is enough for the web but graphics will benefit from higher res.
How often are you in Wi-Fi?, why put up with 2G-what are you paying at T-Mobile?
Good luck & upload a YouTube video with your experience if you can..
A Google backed Asus tablet would be a dream come true for me.
I'm almost always around wi-fi so I'm not really concerned with the 2g. I had accidentally disabled 3g on my Nexus 1 some months back and it took me about a month to notice. My monthly bill with t-mobile is about $80 per phone (3 smart phones on the family plan), but I actually have a special deal where I get more minutes and cheaper data from being a loyal customer (15+ years) for the price of a lesser plan.
My brother was about to cancel his plan (he's on my family plan) to get the Galaxy Nexus on verizon, but they offered him a $4.99 Galaxy S II to stay. He took the offer. That level of customer service is not something I dont really want to leave. My line is due for an upgrade next November which should be right around the time the new quad-core phones are being released (and a new nexus maybe), so I'm going to try and wait it out.

It had been expected but now it's official..unclear how such a deal would have affected the SGNote for you but there were rumors that T-Mobile may abandon the US market if the deal did not go through. T-Mobile is $ 4 Billion dollars wealthier so I doubt it will happen soon & they have time to reassess.
If you are mostly on Wi-Fi as am I it won't be the same issue but it'll likely annoy you when you're not obviously.
Let us know how you like it..
Yea, I will definitely post my feelings on it. I'm sure there are other Tmo guys out there wondering if its worth the loss of 3G, but something interesting about the AT&T merger news is that part of the deal if it didnt go through was that TMo would get to use AT&Ts 3g bands. If this is true, and they implement it fast enough, I might have a 3G note after all.

I know this post will enrage some people here, but it needs to be said.
Every Nexus phone since the N1 has been a FAILURE, pure and simple. The N1 set the standard at the time with class leading specs, and despite not being perfect, it still made the Android OEMs sit up and take notice, ushering in a new wave of amazing Android devices.
Since that time, from Google, we've had:
Nexus S - warmed over Galaxy S, with no killer features that was lacklustre at the time of release and quickly destroyed by the GS2
Galaxy Nexus - a phone that released with an old chipset which would not have been a problem in and of itself, if the camera and battery life hadn't been so utterly ****
And now, the Nexus 4.
This phone is so close to getting it right - decent processor, decent amount of RAM, good screen, camera is supposed to be good if the LG Optimus G is anything to go by. And yet Google eff it all up with 16GB max storage.
I've been wanting a Nexus ever since the N1, but each time Google puts a hurdle in the way of my buying it. The fact the N4 is such a stupendous price only makes this latest failure all the more annoying for me. Everyone knows the arguments for and against cloud storage, so I won't bore you by repeating them. But I feel like if I get a Nexus then I'm slowly but surely being herded into using the phone someone else's way rather than my own. Does that ring any bells for you?
The N4 looks SO good in every other aspect that I'm desperately trying to see if I can rearrange my affairs on the phone to try and make 16GB work. Get rid of the backups and ROMs hanging around. Trim down my apps, especially the large games. Jettison most of my music. Re-encode my TV and movies to a much smaller size/worse quality. I MAY be able to do it, but it's going to be a lot of extra hassle and constant moving things around. This device is supposed to make my life easier, not give me more work to do. I'm very disappointed.
Finally, I hope Google come out and say one way or another NOW whether or not they intend on releasing larger storage versions later. If I were to buy this 16GB phone and then they put out a 32/64GB in three months that would enrage me. If Google were to let us know that they intend on releasing something bigger later then I would happily wait for that. But I think they'll keep us in the dark, even if they are thinking about doing it - they know that if they were to release something else later then it would be going up against the GS4 and HTC J Butterfly, which is a fight the N4 wouldn't win in a lot of people's eyes.
That's my rant over for now - feel free to agree/disagree/savage me below!!
Pls Remember...
Remember N4 is a PHONE...
Try not to migrate your whole life to your phone... Unless it is completely mandatory...
16 GB is actually decent, and should not be considered as a fail just because it doesn't fit your needs
Cheers!
I'm not even going to bother with this. Anyone else or should we just delete the thread?
I don't expect they will come out NOW and say that there is a 32GB version around the corner, it'll just put people off buying one one release. If it's frustrated you that much and you need the space then I'd just wait a few months. At worst they don't release one and you will probably be able to pick a 16GB up for slightly less than the release price.
Are we seriously allowing more such threads to find its way on this forum?
Why the hell do you have so much crap on your phone? That's ridiculous.
Google doesn't "fail."
You "fail."
This thread "fails."

There are so many people saying the same thing that I'm hopeful it will get brought to Google's attention that loads of people WANT to buy this device but NEED more storage space.
Sorry, but if they had announced a 32GB option then this device would be being hailed by almost everyone as the best thing to happen to Android ever (what with the specs and aggressive pricing). Instead, it just has a large portion of its target market banging their heads against a wall...

I'm going to have to agree with the OP. The same people that are praising this phone have been knocking Apple for such lacking features in the past including no expandable storage, no removable battery, no LTE. Amazing how cool it is that this device doesn't have these features...
I'm not going to go into the reasons why I would like more space as it's been covered over and over in other threads.
The point of this thread is to ask why Google seems unable to spec a phone that is ahead of the curve and also meets the needs of most of its target market, without jumping through hoops like USB-OTG for this, or buying an extended battery and putting up with a rubbish camera on the G-Nex.

edit: Sigh, I'll be nice.
(short story is that "most" of the target does not need over 16GB of space, not even close. Speak for yourself.)

So you call the latest S4 Snapdragon Quadcore processor decent? Two gb's of ram is only decent? Please show me any phone which can muster those kind of specs, especially in that price range.
Also, the storage space of 16 gb's in my opionion should be enough for the average user. How large part of the main public do you really think store roms and nands on their devices?

Simple economics suggests that to make a device with such powerful specifications and make it available for under $300, you need to cut your costs somewhere. I would rather have 8 or 16GB of storage space than have a subpar screen, processor, or inadequate RAM. There is a specific reason why Google no longer wants a microSD card, and they have publicly stated why since 2010. Come to terms and accept it as a viable compromise, or just don't purchase the Nexus 4. The android ecosystem is large enough to make everyone happy.

16GB won't work for you on the Nexus 4, but you seem to really like the Nexus One which had 512 MB, a good bit of which was taken by the OS.
Edit: Wikipedia says 190 MB for applications
I've had my N4 for a about 4 days. I've only had one Android device previously, a Nexus S which I bought at launch nearly two years ago, and which I've been using ever since then. I've played around with some other Android devices here and there like the GS2, GS3, OneX, OneS, and Galaxy Nexus. This new N4 blows everything out of the water, IMO. It is SO fast and smooth, and the screen quality/resolution leaves nothing to be desired. The form factor is beautiful, camera takes great photos (but I'm no photo-expert), video functions work great, etc. Even though there's no improved functionality (or features) compared to my NS, the user experience is just so much better.
Also, HSPA+ speeds are so good, that I can't imagine why anybody would complain about lack of LTE. I'm consistently getting between 8 and 14Mbps download speeds.
Nice work Google and LG!
It really is a blessing for those who only need 16GB and have T-mobile
I've had mine since last week and it's been the smoothest and fastest android experience. I really enjoy how everything works so effortlessly. Battery life has been better than I expected too.

Photos are resized when uploaded to Google+, with the longest side being reduced to 2000px. Just in case you've overlooked this and delete the originals!
I recall that Dropbox auto upload retains the original image, and doesn't consume any of your space, or rather they give you another 500MB every 500MB you auto upload!

Interesting, I've used all three of the cameras you listed and I think the N4 displays much truer colors. I guess if oversaturation is your thing go with the Samsung. The OneX camera is comparable to the N4s
Love the Nexus 4 haters.....
Newsflash, not one Nexus owner bought the phone because of the camera. Like most high end devices the Nexus has a great camera that does the job just as good if not better than most out there.
Can't the OP be happy with his new phone?
Funny bring up the camera because its the only thing on the S3 that's even in the N4s league. Oh and what did you pay on contract for the S3? I know unlocked they're around 550. Sucker.
I have the N4 and came from the Verizon GNex. The only concern I had when I bought the phone was going to be the lack of LTE. I have the N4 on T-Mobile and running side by side speed tests, I have to say that the N4 beat the Gnex almost every time.
^
I don't understand why people care so much about LTE when the speeds us carriers provide over LTE are nowhere near what the technology is capable of, and often times slower than real world HSPA+ speeds. I'd much rather use HSPA+ if that means better battery life, better coverage, and often times faster speeds. Besides, HSPA+ is already sometimes faster than my home connection. I really don't see the need for 10+Mbps mobile connections at the moment, especially if I'm paying $100+ a month only to get a 1-2Gb cap on Verizon or ATT.
I am glad you like it but as you said you have been on Nexus S for 2 years and playing around here and there with other devices isnt really using and therefore you dont know if something better is out there or not. Enjoy your phone, just dont exaggerate it.

As another user coming from the Nexus S it doesn't surprise me how it is difficult to satisfy people that have to keep jumping to the next latest and greatest device. Over the last few weeks it has constantly amazed me how many people are ditching really great recent phones such as the S3 and one x to get something only slightly newer and (not in everyone's experience) better. I embraced my Nexus S for all it's shortcomings and evolved it through software over 18 months and the great thing for me now is I can truly appreciate how great a leap forward my new phone is. Personally I think it's a suckers game to keep changing phones every few months and unsurprising how much more critical such users will be of their newly acquired hardware.

It's definitely a hobby for me as well - but mine is about Android and how it adapts and evolves. My Nexus S is running a later version of Android than anything other than the N4. The hardware has always been secondary to me and I guess that's how we differ. I'm sure I will see several phones overtake me in the coming months - meanwhile I will enjoy getting the most out of the N4 until the right time comes again to move on.

Hobby for me as well.. And a damn expensive one too lol. I buy all my phones sim free/ unlocked so i dont get tied to any carrier and have owned a lot of Android devices.
I was gona give the N4 a pass, but since I live in Canada i can take advantage of LTE. Just ordered a Nexus 4 16gb when it became available earlier today and have a shipping time of 1-2 weeks. Hope it gets delivered before Christmas!
LTE is a big plus for ME. Out of the 8 popular networks here, 6 of them offer LTE. If its easy for someone to say that he/she dont care for LTE, chances are they never tried it or live in a poorly covered area. But it is understandable since LTE coverage is limited compared to HSPA. Luckily for me i live in an LTE area and yes i am spoiled by it. I even traded my Tegra 3 HTC One X for the LTE Snapdragon one. Just my 2 cents
LTE is amazing no doubts, and I am lucky enough to have an unlimited data plan from way back in the day ao I am grandfathered in as long as I dont upgrade the phone on the contract price which I havent in ages and I dont plan to anyway. But yes, LTE speeds are a God send.

The gs3 camera is cool but you can only use it with two hands. When I tried to take one hand they would always come out kinds blurry. I think it's because how big the phone is and the shape it kinda slides in your hand.
Loving my nexus though. It is easier to hold.
Depending if thats whats announced next week. The improvements could mean bigger storage, better camera, LTE compatibility, better battery life, and of course KLP. If they keep it in the same price range I'm all in

Maybe, but probably not. If they do release a heavily upgraded model for the same $299 price point...google better pull an apple and give me something though, considering I just bought a n4 a couple of weeks ago.

If its only the 32gb and LTE spec upgrade I won't bat an eye. On average with T-Mo I'm downloading 6-10mbps. Coming from sprint where that's near their LTE speeds, I will settle with H+ and 16gb just fine!
I doubt I'll upgrade until 2014, as I plan to keep onto this phone for a while. 16GB is more than enough for me and LTE isn't in my are yet.

Same here. I use the tablet for HD content so I still have nearly 6GB free on my phone and T-Mobile's HSPA+ is, in practice, as fast as Verizon's LTE and faster than Sprint's. LTE is still half baked.
I'll hold for a redesigned phone. Im knid of secretly hoping that LG was bidding but that HTC will win making a Nexus version of the One. Although LG has been the best supporter of the Nexus program so far (outside of the shortages, which were Google's fault).

I'm gonna hold out as well. As for the resale. Once the 5 is for sale I'm expecting the resale to drop by at least 30%. This device has the hardware to stay up to date for at least another year.

No real need to upgrade for me. The rumored changes are LTE, 4.3, and more storage. We already have LTE (I get 25Mbps down in an unannounced LTE city), we know 4.3 is going to hit this device shortly after its unveiling, and I'm fine with 16GB storage.

I don't really miss LTE. Sure, it's nice for downloading files quicker, but I really don't notice a difference in how fast web pages load. The only way though that I could upgrade would be if the current N4 retains some resale value.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
The only thing that would interest me is a bigger battery. I could care less about LTE. I don't need an additional radio killing my battery even faster. As for more storage? Not necessary. I don't keep a bunch of junk on my phone and only one nandroid so I regularly have between 2 and 4 GB free.

I don't like iPhone just because of that( well and iOS sucks and the market sucks and I'm not a 12 year old girl) but honestly I would be all over it if it had more storage and LTE.

The HSPA+ is not available everywhere in Chicago area. You get a lot of E or 3G. Let alone the LTE..

With Motorola announcing the Moto G the other day, the low price of that phone and the power it has makes it an interesting option. For $200 USD you get a 1.2ghz quad core, 16GB nand, adreno 302 graphics, 1gb of ram, unlocked sim, unlocked bootloader, and guaranteed kitkat from Motorola. Other than the lack of hdmi and sdcard, that's a really good value. See here for the full specs. To deal with the 16gb nand, just get a micro usb thumb drive for music and movies, they cost between $30-$70 for a decent sized one, and 16GB should be enough to cover most users other than gamers...gamers'll probably want to be on a better phone anyways.
A really big plus in my opinion is the G's OS wiil be pure AOSP other than 2 Motorola apps designed to migrate your settings and apps over to the G.....less technical users like my Mother actually use and like them so I see those as a good thing. When your Mom can take her first Android phone, the Atrix HD, plug it up to her laptop and get it all set up and running to her liking relatively hassle free, then Motorola did something right.
G also comes with 50GB of Google Drive storage free for 2 years....not sure if that's a plus or a minus since you'll have to pay for the Google Drive storage eventually....I also have 190GB of free Copy.com storage thanks to all of you so I laugh at the G's 50GB free .
The G obviously has some downsides because it is a budget phone. For one, it doesn't have 4G/LTE, it doesn't have the Active Notifications its big brother X has, no hdmi port, & no sdcard slot.
I'm normally really against phones without the sdcard option, but for the price, the Moto G is hard to hate on; especially when otg thumb drives are as cheap as they are.
My only curiosity with the G is if usb-to-hdmi works with it. If it doesn't it isn't a deal breaker, but it would be nice to be able to hook it up to a bigger screen for watching movies or playing games.
There's a really good chance I'll pick one of these up on launch. If anything to show Motorola that if they make a good, fully unlocked phone at a good price that we will buy it.
//If the X developer edition wasn't so ugly* and wasn't priced so high I'd say things like this post about it. Drop the X Dev Edition to $350 and add it to Moto Maker (even if it costs an extra $50) and I'd consider it. For $550, the X Dev isn't worth the $$$ for a slightly faster processor, active display, and touchless controls; and I bet ya the G can probably port over the X's touchless controls, if not more.
*I'm not a fan of white phones, looks or for practicality. My hands get dirty when I work and I'll have a white phone smudged black in less than a week.
I'm really looking forward to the new phone block phone. Especially since Motorola is working with them now.

Moto and block phone.....that makes things very interesting. I'd love the option to make me a brick phone. Thin phones are OK and all, but I'd rather have a 5" brick with a good battery, keyboard, and expandable storage (and a micro hdmi/usb configuration like the we currently have).
Still, name a better phone for under $250 brand new that's better than the Moto G. I say $250 because I'm including the cost of a micro usb thumb drive. When you can get a good phone + accessories for under $300, someone's doing something right. Kudos Motorola.
I agree still a really good deal.

I can get behind the AHD ebay/G new similar pricing, but a lot of you aren't thinking about this in the right way -- this is a Motorola WORLD RELEASED PHONE with an UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER in a price range almost everybody can afford. There won't be any rom, mod, tweak, or customization that this phone won't have, which is a value you can't put a price on and, I believe, gives this the edge over the Atrix HD.
The G is essentially a Motorola made Nexus 4.5.

I agree completely. Hell at this price I will buy one just to sit on the back burner. Hell, who am I kidding, "just to play around with" is how that was supposed to read lol.
I would have spent a little bit more to get 2gb of ram, and then it would rival just about anything on the market. That and the lack of SD card support are the only two turn offs for me. I just don't know if 16gb of storage will be enough. I haven't ever seen one so correct me if there is, but I wish that there were tiny little OTG flash drive that could plug into the USB and just sit there, a little bump on the outside, kind of like those tiny usb drives and wireless mouse recievers that they make for laptops. Where it's just a plug and not much more volume to it. It would be a hassle to unplug it to charge the phone, but no more than the hassle of carrying around a jump drive and an OTG cable.
Though, like you said, this is huge. An unlocked moto phone with very decent specs that will have pretty much every rom ever known to man? Gimme two.
As for no LTE, meh. Who cares. Once you reach a certain point, internet speed gets to be a moot argument IMO. Especially mobile internet. Who's gonna be downloading huge files that would need that kind of internet on a phone? 21 mbps is good enough for me. To put it to terms, at that speed you could fill up the entire phone's memory in a matter of a few hours. Or to put it another way, you could burn through an entire month's worth of data on a standard data plan in a couple of hours. So at that point who cares? Nobody uses that much speed on a phone. Your facebook page can only load so fast.
what you do with a quad no hdmi port?????
can be connected to tv trough mini usb port?????
also no lte speed on the road is a big no for me
at least able to get 4g???
definly if you can connect to tv and get 4g speed
is going to be my new toy.....
other i stick with my atrixhd....with kitkat is like a new phone!!!!!!!
@skeevydude
That's true. I didn't think that way.
Can't wait to see if it will be officially available in my little european contry. I haven't seen any motorola phones avilable officialy in stores for a while. If so, that would be really great.
I really like the sounds of this phone. Prior to the AHD, I hadn't purchased a phone on contract for 4-5 years, I like to buy and not hassle with ehte 2-year agreement. However, lack of 4g/LTE is a bummer with this one.
I don't think the lack of 4G/LTE is that big of a deal, especially since 3G is faster than my home cable internet anyways. For me, 4G is just a way for me to hit my data caps even faster and 4G speeds won't really matter to me until Big Cellular allows more than 2gb a month before I hit said cap -- I can live with getting push notifications of GMail at 3G speeds.... Ya also gotta realize that this is a world phone and 4G is mainly for Americans and major metropolitan areas outside of the US.
There's something seriously f'd up with these companies being allowed to give us the ability to use a month's bandwidth in less than 5 hours.
Realistically, the data cap should be 2gb a day with 3 dollars a gigabyte after that. That's enough to watch a movie, check emails, update apps.
Can't even sync an android repo without hitting the cap.....
Can't tether to a PC without being charged $20 a month...only gives an extra 2gb of data....I'd rather root, rom, and risk the $10 a gb overage charge...works out the same on my end $$$ wise.
Can't think of a fifth line to add....crap, just missed 420 and I just reuped.
Same reason im on prepaid T-Mobile. Lol True i pay $70 a month but i don't have to worry about data as i have wasted last month about 50gb in a month on LTE. My laptop is very happy with this plan as well. Lol
That's why I'm going to aio once my contract is up.

Moto G is a budget phone for 200 dolar that i am not interested in. If they need power users, they have to deliver powerful phones. All in all, even if it has neat specs, at the end of the day a 200$ smartphone is worth 200$. You will not find fine details in it but I can buy it for my sister, mother or father which is the purpose and reason for its market availability.
