I am a complete noob with this kind of thing so please excuse the stupidity. I have searched this site for hours but I just don't understand enough to make sense of the advice
I was running 2.3.3 on my Galaxy S GT-i9000 and I mananged to update it to 2.3.6 and it was saying i9000XXJVU (i think!)
However, then I tried to root it and the boot screen was just stuck on loop so I tried to flash the phone and now it is working again but saying the baseband version in i9000xxjvt and the build number is gingerbread.xwjvz...
I have no idea what any of this means but it seems I need the correct version to update to Jelly Bean properly...? Could anybody point me in the right direction? I'm scared of breaking it again :silly:
Is it ok to just go ahead and try updating at at this point or is there anything left to do beforehand? Also, if anybody could point me in the exact direction for the update I would really appreciate it!
Thanks in advance

After completing the above, you can flash your desired Rom.
It is recommended to flash a CM9 ICS Rom first before a JB Rom to avoid any post-installation problems like invalid IMEI.

Hey, I tried rooting using fugumod for galaxy S http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010141 I went into download mode, installed fugumod, then went into download mode again, and put on my kernel. It all started up fine, but before I got a chance to see if I was rooted, it restarted. It keeps doing this. I know I'm not bricked, i can get into recovery and download fine, but what can i do to fix this problem?
What firmware are you currently running? JVT? Did you try to root with a JVT kernal? Go back into Download mode and root with a kernal that is made for your firmware.

I'm in Australia, and I have the JVK firmware.
Usin Odin Upgrade your PDA to JVT, use the JVK Modem and CSC, repartition with 512pit. Flash one of the root kernals in the above links in the PDA section of Odin. Now you will have JVT and option to use many custom roms...or just keep it on stock JVT.
Edit: I think the most recent modem upgrade for Austrialia is XXJVQ and CSC is VAUJV6. See firmware link above.
JVK is European. Youll most likely have better cell coverage if you use the modem and csc above. Flash with JVT PDA
Do you know where to find JVK modem and csc?
Its all in Firmware Link.
Download the first download under Europe JVT 2.3.5...use only the PDA. You have to unzip it after you download it.
Dont use JVK if your in Australia...it will work but cell coverage most likely sucks.
Download the first download under Australia/NewZealand....it has the current Modem and CSC you should use. Unzip it and you will have your modem and csc
Put these in Odin with a 512pit....under how to Flash on the same link you will see a link for Odin with Pit files.
Sorry for my inexperience, but what is a 512pit?
Edit: You also said to download JVT 2.3.5. I'm on 2.3.3, does this matter?
No worries....You can download the odin and pit files on same link...its right below how to flash...there is a link.
So remember you want to flash
XXJVT in PDA
SRJV1 in MODEM XXJVQ will work but seems like SRJV1 is recommended in Aus i9000 thread
VAUJV6 in CSC
512 pit in PIT
After flash, go into recovery and wipe data reset, wipe cache partition, and wipe Dalvik Cache.
Reboot, power down, back to Download mode flash either of the root kernals from links in first post. Flash in PDA.
When done you will have rooted phone with current JVT PDA with your proper modem and CSC.
EDIT :When your done you will be on 2.3.5 JVT more current and many more options for using custom roms.

Seems like guys in Aus...are recommending this Modem...SRJV1
I did all that, now my phone just isn't turning on...
Edit: I just got into download mode, so i'm not bricked...
Edit 2: I installed Semaphore kernel, And i say reboot system now, it goes straight back to clockwork? Does that mean i don't have a rom?
If your flashing the files in the right spots in Odin ...the files I suggested above then everything should work fine....go to the i9000 australia thread and ask if the configuration I suggested should work.

Wait till phone reboots.
After reboots, power down.
Reset Odin
Put semaphore 1.9.0 tar in PDA of Odin
put phone in Download mode

after you started odin did it run for about 5 to 10 minutes and say pass at the end and reset.
if so....try flashing again but use the csc from the jvt download instead of the vaujv6.
After flashing Sephamore or the modem stuff? Because both didn't even take a minute..
forget about semaphore right now.... follow these instructions exactly
open odin on computer.
put xxjvt in PDA...its the one that says CODE from the files you downloaded and unzipped.
Put SRJV1 in PHONE the one from the download under australia/newzealand modems.
Put the csc file from the Jvt download in csc....it says csc
put the 512 pit file in PIT
put phone in download mode and connect to computer.
com port goes yellow press start.
it should take about 5 to 10 minutes. when its done it will say pass and reset. once the phone resets disconnect usb...it will take a few minutes to reboot....do this and tell me when done.
---------- Post added at 08:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:28 PM ----------
After downloaded and unzipped this is what the files will look like.
PHONE_SRJV1.tar.md5....this goes in the phone section of odin
CODE_I9000XXJVT_CL617736_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.rar....this goes in PDA
GT-i9000-CSC-HOME-MULTI-OXAJVT.tar.rar....goes in CSC
S1_odin_20100512.pit.....goes in PIT
This exactly what the files look like if you downloaded the ones I told you and unzipped them.
Hi,

SuperSU has been instaled sucesfully but after reboot there was no SuperSU icon.
Then I have user the 1B option on XDA: PS : If you can't see superSU after flashing above file(sometimes happen if there is too low space like in LQ3 ROM, then use this Root_superSU, followed by same above Root_busybox file.
I have put the Root_superSU into the root and have reboot into recovery but after reboot there was some warning about change of something (have fortotten what was written:silly I have confirmed it and now (allready over 40 minutes) on the screen is standing:

What should I do now?

Go to original android subforum, get Philz stock kernel and flash that via recovery (read the instructions)
If you cannot go to recovery and is stuck at download mode, get a stock GB rom from Dr. Ketan's thread and flash via pc odin.
Hope you did not get bricked using that temp cwm and su files.

But many of the application icons are gray/black!?
What now?
Which is the next step? How to become again the colored icons and how to root?

download a kernel that matches ur ROM, reboot into recovery, install zip from SD, choose the downloaded file and install. Thats it really,
u will get root, CWM and safe kernel.
I don't see your version XXLPT / LQ3 under Philz kernel.
Try to update your stock rom first to those available under Philz Kernel.
Then you can flash Philz Kernel and get rooted immediately after flashing his kernel.
Good Luck!

Hi,
So you suggest that I should do the dr. Ketan's "1A.Root + safe kernel + advance recovery"?
Can I make it reverse - go back to the stock ROM/kernel if the Note must go to service, I do not want to loose guarantee.
How?
Where I can find stock ROM/kernel?
I have seen that there is noo XXLPT/LQ3 kernel.
Now I am confused what should I do. Which kernel from the list is suitable?
Step by step explanation/tutorial for a noob please!
then use Dr ketans rooting method.

Yeah. Philz kernel starts from 4.0.4 I think.
If you want the easiest way, and at the same time to get the latest firmware, go to the link given by nokiamodeln91.
Download either one of this :
N7000XXLRT---4.0.4/12.09.07-N7000DBTLRT---Download---Germany
N7000DDLR9---4.0.4/12.09.12-N7000ODDLR3---Download--India
That's the last 2 firmware from Samsung.
Download it, and flash it from ODIN PC (On the same thread by dr. Ketan, you can find also on how to install it by ODIN PC).
Once you are done, you may go back to Philz kernel thread, and choose the kernel.
If you flash the XXLRT, you can download : PhilZ-cwm6-XXLRT-DBT-v2.7
If you flash the DDLR9, you can download : PhilZ-cwm6-DDLR9-INU-v2.7
and put it under your phone (external sd).
You may flash Philz kernel with your stock recovery. Just go to recovery, and apply update from zip file.
That's it. You will get root + safe kernel (safe from brick) + CWM v6.
By doing this, you won't get triangle. And you will get root, and also you will be on the safe state free of eMMC brick bug.
To go back to stock (if you intend to send for service), you can just flash back the original firmware. Everything will be back to normal (no root, stock kernel, stock firmware).
Please note :
DO NOT DO any wipe data until you get into PHilz Kernel.
OR :
if you don't want to go the hassle of upgrading firmware, and still want to stick to what you have now, you may refer to Philz kernel thread, and read post #6 (by dr. Ketan).
You can request your firmware installed on your device, and just wait for Philz to modified and put on the OP.
(but this takes time, you can't force him to modified for you on the spot)
Good luck!

Hi
The problem is I cannot get into recovery (Whether stock recovery or custom I tried fresnel rom, speedmod rom 3-15, AbyssNotekernel42CWTouchOriginalLogo ) I know the button press sequence. (UP vol + power + home press for few secs)
AND n7000 does not go beyond samsung galaxy note screen.
I CAN goto download mode.
I flashed 2.3.6 N7000XXKL3 DDKL1 (India) from odin found in this thead
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389693
before that I tried N7000ZSLPF_N7000OZSLPF_OZS stock rom . There again I couldnt goto recovery but download
I am not able to clear cache or wipe because I cant get to recovery. Thus I think is the problem.
This all started from stock ICS (****) wipe/clear data option from recovery.
Please help me I m very desperate for my NOTE n7000

UPDATE
when I flash STOCK GB rom stated in first comment, it stays and then restarts. I get a boot loop from " samsung galaxy note" I cannot get to recovery
when I flash STOCK ICS rom stated in first comment, it restarts after some time around 5 mins and is stuck on " samsung " Glowing logo I cannot get to recovery here too.
You didn't do a factory reset from stock ICS did you? (You know about brick bug right? IF YOU DONT KNOW ABOUT BRICKBUG STOP NOW AND READ UP ON IT FIRST)
IN THIS ORDER.
1. Have you tried flashing the philz kernel from PC Odin?
1a. Make sure it corresponds to the ICS version you will flash...
2. Flash stock ICS in PC Odin.
2a. Immediately thereafter (do not boot) flash philz kernel from PC odin
3. Immediately thereafter see if you can boot into cwm recovery (volume up power - keep holding)...
3A. Do not let it boot into system yet...
3b. If you are in cwm you should do a factory reset (wipe data cache dalvik) - if you are in stock android recovery somehow - do not ever wipe from it
Please report back I aam here for a while

I missed this part of your post. So You did a wipe data from stock ICS recovery (no custom/safe kernel?) If so... it sounds like you may be affected by the brick bug...
is your binary counter still at zero?
If so there are a few options (warranty repair mainly... or if not an option -PIT method)

Sadly my counter is at 11, as ih e been trying to get out of the situation desperately, I tried lots of kernels, so goi.g to try above mentioned steps. Will be back with results very soon.

I did these steps but cannot get inro recovery but after that I let it boot it takes a while on laxy note screen and then reboots and then stuck on radiant samsung logo
I got boot.img
Cache.ext4.tar
Data.ext4.tar
Nandroid.md5
Recovery.img
System.ext4.tar
Which saved from recovery when I HAD recovery first time before I did wipe
I m replying from my mobile so there might be few typo errors sorry

You may want to post on the PIT forum.

Try downloading the JB xxlsa from sammobile.com and flash it using pc Odin. There are three files in this
Code = pda
Csc=csc
Modem=phone.
It an over 1gb file
Hi Everyone.
IT HAS FINALLY BEEN SOLVED.
In order to help other people who are in this situation (As I understand their situation)
Here is the process i followed
I downloaded the pit patched file(Group of various pits) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667886
to name it >>pits-N7000_16GB.zip
(HIT AND TRIAL) By flashing the pits one by one from top to bottom I found that the problem that I couldnt get to recovery was bad emmc
And suddenly at one PIT the OS booted up PARTIALLY, AND I GOT MY RECOVERY menu back.
I had to try around 11 pits. But still I couldnt boot successfully
I downloaded the files
emmc_find_brick_start.zip
emmc_find_brick_end.zip
to EASILY find the BAD block
from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823918
I ran these one by one from CWM recovery (as I now had recovery after flashing PITs (hit and trial) but couldnt boot to FULL OS)
I chose the pit with the bad block start and end PIT
and then it was piece of cake. installing Indian ICS STOCK ROM with PIT "N7000_16GB_Q1_20110914--patched--brick-between-00281-and-06455-MB--FACTORYFS-moved-by-05888-MiB"
AND MY NOTE N7000 is live again
and hey never give up my binary count now is 21, certainly which can be reset to 0 using triangleaway.apk
Cheers
and
THANX to hg42 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=3597010)

I tried tot installatie sweetrom 2.5 but it stops at flashing the modem. I also can't restore my stock because that stops at checking the md5 sum. Im running philzkernel with the stock 4.0.4. Van anyone help? Does Odin work? What should I flash?
Wipe data cache system preload
Make sure you actually are on philz safe kernel
Reinstall a ROM.
You may have to download one to your computer and transfer to phone to flash.
If you want stock use PC odin

Still have access to recovery mode?
then go to mounts and storage
format /system, data, cache, preload .. then Install zip.> rom
I thought I just said that.
Thank you but nothing worked. In Odin it hangs on factoryfs.img. I had a .pit file and re partition checked but it still hangs on factoryfs.img. Does anyone know how to solve this nasty soft brick?
Check usb debugging on also unknown source is checked. (sorry you Can't do this now, should have done earlier)
Download a different stable custom rom to your computer and verify the md5 checksum. Transfer this your external sd card using preferably another note only. If could enter Philz cwm do all wipes and formats and select flash new rom option, if available, and flash your new rom.
Edit : since you said you were on stock ics, don't know whether you can do formats and wipes, check with experts.
Edit 2: keep your battery fully charged, till your phone becomes normal.

So long as he is on philz formats are fine. Otherwise you should do exactly as above poster says. Once you get q custom ROM installed..you can use mobile Odin to go back to stock if you wish

I marked the passage with relevance here in big fat red: it means you bricked your device. Nothing soft here, this is the ugly version.
Two options:
- Samsung Service Center and repair by replacing the Mainboard
- hg42's thread and use the workaround with repartition, you'll loose some GB but can use your device again.
And: if not absolutely necessary and if not having an exactly analyzed reason for it (hardbrick workaround is one reason):
Do not check partition and do not use a pit file in Odin to repartition
Thanks but the problem is that I don't have a recovery anymore. Will it work if I try to flash the stock firmware via odin on a different computer?
ThaiDai's comments may be right... but are a little premature.
Go to DR. Ketans thread and download the prerooted gingerbread rom. Go to download mode (home + volume-down + power) and try to flash it via PC Odin. Report back.
If same error we should move on to the pit method to attempt to repair your partitions. Report back after attempting the prerooted GB ROM.. I will be checking the thread.
I flashed something with Odin (I thought it was the hydracore kernel. It was named: GL_NOTECORE_HYDRACORE_v4-3b_STD.tar) it can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1970626 but now I can acces the recovery again. I could install a safe kernel (Abysskernel) and do the wipes and install a ROM. But the flashing with Odin gave me the yellow triangle so I don't have warranty anymore and it hangs on the boot screen where it shows: Samsung Galaxy Note N-7000 and the yellow triangle. Is there a way to install a custom ROM now or do I still need to flash the stock rooted gb via Odin?
OK here is the deal.
Do NOT use abyss. You are already on Hydra core it is 100% safe...there was actually a previous thread on whether abyss may cause some issues...no need use Hydra core.
in Hydra core cwm recovery...
Boot into recovery...transfer the custom ROM from computer to SD card...
Wipe /data dalvik /cache /system /preload.
Flash a custom ROM you want with a zip file.
Install gaaps if necessary for that rom
Boot to system. Move on with life.
If the flashing fails and you have issues...it may be like thaidai said where pit method may be required.

By The way...to remove the yellow triangle search xda for chain fire thread foe triangle away.
But don't worry about that until your system is up and running
you got a triangle because you flashed something custom (non signed) in Odin.
had you flashed philz you would have been time...but its done and over so move on and use triangle away once you are able to get into a working rom

I Don't know how to help, but i've got problem with my NOTE as well, and started a thread.
May be one of my step would help you...
I've got a working note right now but not stable, random reboot still occurs... but at least it is useable.
Mind with the apps you installed, try to install one by one and check on the effect... example in my case "facebook" is bad for me, no facebook for me. Chrome also bad for me...
As long you got working safe kernell, than you can install ROM, just have to do trial and error in finding the best thing for your NOTE...
Thanks guys but it stuck at the data wipe and now I can't flash because it won't do a data wipe.
Looks like to me you got the MMC brickbug. Please download the pit file from the mmc brickbug post and use that with a 100% sure stock rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667886 <-- here you can download the new PIT file

Thank you but which pit should I choose? I can't find it in the text. And which stock rom is 100% sure? You mean not a leak or just not a custom rom?

Depending on your size pick one of those. just be sure that the odin file is for your device
BTW: u should have a earlier backup of your EFS system on your sdcard. efs.img. if not do that first otherwise you cant use your phone as phone again but only as PDA. please google how to backup EFS via ADB or via recovery (if not damaged)

hi...
i tryed to put a new rom on my GT-9000
error no space on device
can someone tell me a tutorial for GT-i9000 XWJW1 (roms, gapps...etc...)
i tryied a bunch from the forum all failed
Best regards
SL1016
Flash semaphore kernal through Odin
If u are in GB 2.3.6
Then flash the rom which u want
But. . beware . don't install the ROM from internal sdcard . flashing may format the data and the internal sdcard. .so put zip in the external sdcard and flash
If u are flashing slimbean. Then . your phone will restart and restart to flash the fix. So remove the battery. And boot to recovery and flash the zip again

If you are satisfied . pm me
You need try another kernel. As said - update kernel from ODIN. You need tar format kernel. Go to download mode (volume down+home+power), open ODIN, open new tar kernel by PDA button, connect phone to PC and press START button in ODIN.
