I have been looking through the threads, and havent seen what I am looking for. So hopefully i will not get flamed to bad. I tried to install mikeymikes GR12, I got through the first stage of downloading the gingerbread rom to the phone through odin, but then it went south. I lost root and was unable to get back to the download screen. I then tried to use the all in one tool to root the phone, and that put me to the recovery screen where i could not use the ok button, just the volume up and down buttons. I just managed to get the download screen to come back, but i cant get anything else to work. Any suggestions on what to do, where to go from here.
Thank you for your help
I would go back to stock first. I believe your problem lies in the bootloaders. There are two bootloaders in the beginning and if you don't have the gingerbread ones installed, you won't install gingerbread properly.
I would use DesignGears One Click Odin to go back to stock and load the Froyo drivers. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989. Make sure you open up Odin first before plugging in your phone, then hit the Start button.
Once that is done, you can try again, but read about getting the GB bootloaders installed properly before you try to flash a GB ROM. Any of the GB ROM instructions should get you there. Just make sure you know all the steps before you try it again.
Good Luck!!
I don't see why you would be flamed for your question. That is what Q&A is for and you are in a bad spot. The biggest thing to remember is to be as specific as possible when you post a question. This includes what you were trying to do, what steps you took, what was the result, when did the problem occur (which step) and what you have tried to do, if anything to fix it.
One more thing. It is always possible that the USB cable is bad or that the USB port you are plugging into (on the computer) isn't working properly. You might also want to plug into a different USB port.
Sorry these posts are broken up, but as I'm coming up with ideas, I'm posting.
Here's something you should try:
(I wrote this for Team Phoenix, hence the sig.. But it works the same with every ROM. There's a link to a very nice tutorial I suggest you follow).

Hope it helps

Me too. If we can ... Remember not all things can be recovered from so please read everything twice before ever touching your phone.
10-4. My next question is: where do I get froyo from. Kies sees my eclair version as unregistered, so it wont update. And my ota sees an update is needed, but when i tried, the area im in has crappy signal, so the update failed and now i have to wait 24 hours to do it.
Any suggestions?
Thanks again
are you planning on flashing a custom rom?
if so updating to official froyo is A HUGE WASTE OF TIME
EDIT:are you Canadian by chance? if so check this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=979133
I only plan to root the official froyo right now, that is what I had before I jacked it up. I am not Canadian.

Going on official froyo will get you the signature failed error (which you need the 3e recovery fix if you ever want to flash a custom ROM).
So, basically, if you want more than 2.2 official release. We suggest you don't update. If you're perfectly fine staying on 2.2 Froyo, then there's no problem lol
As for Kies, you shouldn't have any problem using Kies mini. Other than that, there is a 2.2 flash around here. I'm sure you'll find it doing a little search
I had root on my official froyo for a couple of months without a problem. Right now i cant get my phone to go into download mode, it only goes to the battery screen. If i can get to download i can make some headway

If the battery pull way isn't working. You could always go read on abd. It send SU commands and you could get your phone in downlaod mode that way.
Is there an easy way to get adb without getting the sdk. I downloaded the sdk and it keeps saying i need java, when i download the java crap it says the same thing.

Hi guys
I recently bought a 2nd hand i897, the previous guy installed a icssgs on it.
Although it's running flawless and smooth.
But i decide to switch it back to custom gingerbread rom, because of the camera of it.
Ok the problem is, as far as i see my i897 has CWM installed (+ - & power combo works here). I can go in and out with ease. But my download mode is not working (Tried every methods in one of the contributor's post).
I seen in another post, people said because of the ICS rom stop me from getting download mode.
Later, I tried to install some custom GB roms like Legend 3.7, Apex 12 and also cm7 nightly. But they all failed.
Either stop at the boot screen or can't get passed CWM with some error messages.
My noob question is do i need the odin one click to get my i897 back to kk4, and do everything all over again, if I really want a GB rom?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843&page=23
I think i have a i897 GB bootloader (as I startup with AT&T white page, and I'm running on icssgs, correct me if i am wrong)
Thx
Yes you do need to do the Odin one click to get back to GB. Since the device has the ICS rom on it you already have the correct bootloaders.
I recommend the ki2 one click, it has boogs kernel with cwm baked in. Since this is a second hand phone you might also want to format the SD card to avoid any gremilns in the future.
Yeah just flash a one click to kk4, you shouldn't need bootloaders. Describe what you are doing to get in download mode

put it back, hold +-
plug in the usb charger

I have been google some more.
Somepeople mention by formating the internal SD might solve the problem

yes that would be the thread to get the one click from. Now when I mentioned formating the sd that is to prevent bugs from poping up later, it wont do anything for you now. one method I have used in the past for getting into dl mode is
1 open your odin/hemidal one click on your pc
2 remove phone battery
3 plug in usb to phone and pc
now heres where it kinda gets tricky
4 while holding in vol +and- replace battery
if Loyd is looking down upon you you'll get dl mode
...Maybe cause it's like 1:30 a.m. or I'm totally missin something ---- but who is "Loyd" ?? :/

Go Here and try removing the samsung captivate drivers >>>> http://www.petri.co.il/removing-old-drivers-from-vista-and-windows7.htm
Then Reinstall them
From my experience, it's probably your driver has problems.
At the very least, your computer detect your 'plug in' and you can get to download mode
So solving your usb driver is the key
The best way to get back to stock that i have found is KK4-SE-one click just search the forums for it youll have stock rooted gingerbread drivers are already supplied hope this helps

I strongly advice the following since I hard bricked my note twice!
1. When using Odin make sure the firmware is compatible with your Note.
2. When partitioning using the pit file, make sure the file corresponds to your Note.
3. As a general rule, always wait for any flashing operations to finish before unplugging your Note.
--- I hard bricked my note due to the following
1. I used pit partition via pc odin and it took too long. I was impatient and unplugged my Note even if the operation was not finished. Good thing was I previously reset my binary counter and removed yellow triangle before my phone got bricked.(Samsung will not trace this.)
2. I flashed the wrong kernel...
3. I flashed many roms over and over until such time that my Note wouldn't open.
Sent my Galaxy Note to Samsung Service Center.
Luckily, my phone had no trace of any custom firmware flash and no yellow triangle. Samsung replaced my phone's mainboard free of charge as my phone is still in it's full warranty status.
After receiving my revived phone, as stupid as I am, I tried flashing firmware again via pc odin. This time it is the German Official Ics ROM thinking that it would do no harm. Same thing happened. Phone got hard bricked. So I told Samsung that my phone is dead again. I went to the service center again and Samsung asked me if I have done something with the software or Rom inside. I told them that I haven't done anything. They did not know because may binary counter is zero and I have no yellow triangle. They replaced again my mainboard free of charge.
That's all folks.
As of now, I stick to the ICS that the Samsung service center installed. I wouldn't risk again as I think I am one of those Galaxy Note owners who have the emmc bug.
All I did was to root my Note and that's it. No flashing...

I think when you flash the lpy with one file you click the re-repartition so you break your phone while using the pc odin which you should not do. Its only check if you have pit file or more than three files, others even when they have 4 files they still dont check the re repartition to be safe, the pc odin will automatically check for you anyway.

+ Be patient when flashing firmware. I've flashed many times before when I was on gingerbread and I was successful. But when it comes to ICS much precaution should be taken. After my note got repaired I immediately installed the bugbrick checker and after almost 500 seconds my phone is bug free! Or my insane chip is asleep.
Deleted by myself..
Be patient. Why dont you try to search for zedomax in youtube. He's a good teacher on flashing roms and stuff. Follow his guide. His guides are safe. Learned a lot from him.

@andnote. Install the eMMC brickbug check from playstore. It's free. You must be rooted. Just run the app after installation. It wilk tell you your phone passed the check.

Why wouldn't it make sense? It's a bug introduced by Samsung itself ! Apparently in the eMMC driver, which can damage permanently the eMMC flash storage. It happens (not always) when you do a Wipe, or flash FROM THE RECOVERY. If you flash from outside (Odin), and do not wipe, it shouldn't affect you.

Can someone answer me - WHY are you using ROM manager when it's known that it kills our Galaxy Mini? Is it really that hard to use Odin, or just flash CWM recovery through the stock one?
Guess some people love to learn it the hard way. You have a unrepairable (at least at home) BRICK!

You have no reason to be sorry . It's a great idea to put a warning message about ROM Manager in a sticky. However, i once was a total noob too, and i flashed CWM using Odin, it didn't even came to my mind to use ROM Manager.
Reading a couple of different tutorials and educationg yourself before doing anything is the best possible thing someone can do to prevent situations like this. But, like i said, some people have money to waste
lol ... ROM Manager is screwing up everyones phone. Even my friend's mini bricked. He was unlucky that his warranty had got over. He asked the samsung service center and they told him that it would cost $90 for a new motherboard. He uses his galaxy mini as a paper weight now. Rather buy a new phone than buy a motherboard for $90.
If your phone is under warranty, you can get your phone fixed for free in samsung service center( free new motherboard ). Even I bricked my phone when I was a noob with ROM Manager thankfully my warranty was valid that time.
Although I was able to use ROM Manager with no problems.

One real problem is that Rom Manager comes by default on most CM7 based roms. So most new users while experimenting might brick their phone by accident.

I agree, but nobody forces them to experiment with something they have no knowledge of. Phones are not toys to play with (to some extent )
A big warning in the general and development section would be enough.

Most new users don't browse the stickies, just notice the large no. of redundant and useless threads. They just open the thread pertaining to the rom they want and that's that. It would be nice if each Rom had either the rom manager removed or a warning with the download link itself
never say to anyone that rom manager's brick cannot be recovered in home, it can be
the only step is just press volume down home power button but without panicking, panicking is the main reason of can't able to get into download mode
then just flash with odin, dont think it cannot get into dl mode, dl mode is controlled by bootloader and bootloader is not removed by rom manager
Unsuccesfull flash of bootloader hard-bricks our device, so you can't enter DL mode.
You can always give it a shot with a USB JIG* tho. But in most cases, the only thing that helps is JTAG.
*USB JIG - a 301k resistor between the 4th and 5th pin on the microUSB connector.
Tried that.
I've seen that video like about a thousand times. No luck i even went to a repair men today, he said your phone is dead if it can't go in to recovery menu. Is there any other way i can repair my phone? Sorry for late VERY reply
Yes, either use JTAG or send it to the service center.
Brick caused by rom manager is absolute
Nothing can be done

Sorry you had to learn it the hard way. When you're new in this world it's easy to 'trust' all CM standard apps. Nevertheless: using CM means you're a root user. Your phone is rooted which means you can seriously damage your phone when you don't know what youre doing. That's exactly the reason why your phone is NOT rooted when you buy it, and your garantee is void when you root it yourself!
Some of these apps provide a warning: with great power comes great responsability!
Nevertheless: the first thing i do when i buy a new Android is rooting it! But a general warning is at place: root apps can damage your phone. Especially those to install roms. Even with a proper CWM you can flash a wrong or faulty Rom. The risk of bricking your phone is always there.
So think twice when you buy a new phone and read all about flashing on XDA!
hello I have a Galaxy Note and have root it and it shows the yellow triangel.
And I have read how to remove it. and I have an JTAG but can I in safe test it so the JTAG is a working one.
or is it just put it in and start the phone and if it is working it goes into recovery or what.
yellow triangle will appear whenever you use odin to flash anything that is not stock.
simplest way is to use chainfire's triangle away app, just search for it and you will find it it does it all for you!
search on the play store for 'triangle away' that will do the job for you
