Wife + Nexus 4 = BAD EXPERIENCE - Nexus 4 General

As I skipped the N4 for the Note II, I decided to get my wife it to replace her 4S (small victory for Android). She really liked it and started getting into it.
Her problem is that she is very clumsy and ALWAYS drops her phones. So every time she was using it, I would basically be holding my breath. Yesterday turned out to be hell day for her N4.
Coming back from the mall, I tell her to put it in her purse because it was sliding everywhere. She said no it wasn't (really?) and that it was fine. I bite my tongue and drive. Once we get home, she DROPS it on the concrete getting out of the car. I freak out and you know what she does? Laughs and says its just a small crack.
Mind you she refuses to get a case but now says I should have gotten her one. Its OK and working fine. We go inside and she goes to reapply her make up. I get a call from her phone but can't hear her. So I go to see what she wants. Guess what? She dropped it reaching over the toilet for a towel!
At this point I thought she was joking, but no it was wet. Everything is still working, but I'm pissed. How clumsy can you be? I'm highly considering letting her go back to the 4S because the abuse in seeing is honestly driving me crazy. Maybe her punishment will be to continue using the toilet phone...

Get her a nokia 3310.

If you bought her the phone, you probably should have gotten a case with it, especially knowing how clumsy she is.
Regardless, no case would have protected it from being in the toilet. You should probably just get her a cheap candy bar phone instead.

You're getting that mad at your wife over a phone?
Get her a strong case, and don't worry about what she does. If she breaks it, she'll end up without a phone (or with a crappy phone) and she'll learn her lesson that way.

Time for a divorce!

Give her the crappy 4s back so she mess that up. I dont want to offend you or anything, but she doesnt seem like she deserves this phone.

I suspect your paranoia is driving her nuts. You "decide" for her? Who in hell are you man? You complain about her being "clumsy" on a forum? And are *****ing over a bloody phone?
You need counseling and your wife some breathing space. MCP.

If you knew she was prone to dropping phones why get something like an N4, especially without a case... A cheaper android phone (less expense to replace), or even a Sonim if it's that bad

No hard feelings but

People need to stop giving the OP a hard time. I can see why you are slightly annoyed because she isn't taking care of her shiny new nexus 4. It's like why have the phone if its gone look like ish in 30 days.

iPhone 4 reception drops dramatically when held from below

Early reports from the US by users of Apple's new iPhone 4 suggest that a design fault means its reception worsens when held with the hand wrapped around the phone.

Theres always going to be something...Steve needs to shave in that picture
omg...I can just imagine at the next iPhone release, Steve is going to say the following:
"With the iPhone 4, we reimagined how the antennae should be designed by using a metal band with a couple of slits. This meant that your entire phone acts as the antennae. Now, with the iPhone 5, we again push innovation to the limits. Now, we reposition those slits such that you can hold your phone with either hand. It's really magical." [fanboy audience applause]
Everybody knows that the iPhone 4 kills all of the other phones in te world. Especially Android, wanna know why? Because Android Phone is For Porn. Why do you think we have flash now huh?

Sad but true. LOLOL
This problem can be demonstrated in the HD2 as well. I just tried it. if I hold the bottom half of the phone, the signal drops from 5 bars to 2 ~ 3 bars. If I put it down, it goes back up to 5 bars. Seems to happen with either hand for the most part. But I guess the problem is that it's bad enough on the iPhone to a point where people are getting dropped calls or something?
If you hold the phone on the upper half, you see no such problem. But I guess the whole issue with this is in the manner in which Steve Jobs replied the e-mail. It's like a big F-U to the customer. "I already got your money, I could care less about what you do or have to say".

Doesn't happen with my HTC Pure
See there's a difference though. The HTC HD2 does lose some signal [I've actually teted this myself], but it doesn't lose ALL service.
The iFail 4 loses, literally, all service in a matter of seconds.
And the goons paying $500+ for these iFails are inticed enough to spend MORE money to actually be able to use the device as a phone.
That's like if HTC told users that "without buying a third party sleeve or a headset, your new HD2 can't be used as an actual phone". And if I was to read that, I'd still buy the HD2, because it's simply amazing. But the iPhone is everything BUT amazing.

The galaxy s ii didn't survive one day. Got it on new yrs eve. Pulled it out and that's what it looked like. That was a crazy night. The guys at the store said they have only seen one other one break. He then went to the display and hit it with his keys over and over and over. Same thing I did with my galaxy s. Never broke.
But the phone that takes the cake is my HTC fuze. I've had to dig that out of the wall twice when I threw it. Fell from a second story balcony. It was indestructible.

My phone has been through a lot. I've accidentally dropped it so many times without a case. It slid in the street face down once when it fell out my hand when i was crossing the street. No damage was done minus the shell was a little scuffed.

Should there be a maximum age for driving?

Maybe require them to take an annual driver-certification test of some kind after a certain age?
See http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lan...hits-9-children-while-backing-up-his-car.html
Yes, definitely. Here (in norway) people that are 70+ years old must have a "medical certificate" from their doctor, and they have to see their doctor once a year. If their doctor says that they're not fit to drive then that'll be it. Doesn't eliminate the dangers, but it's a start.
Look up driving and accident statistics anywhere in the state of Florida and you'll have a definitive answer. There is something truly frightening about seeing a 90 year old person behind the wheel of a Suburban or Excursion. Especially when they are so hunched over from arthritis that their only line of sight is looking under the steering wheel and over the dash. We called them Q-Tip drivers, since the only thing you could see was a puff of white hair. If you've seen Ferris Bueller you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

I think drivers should have to retake the entire driving test every time or two they renew their license. That way it doesn't discriminate any group of people, and will eliminate everyone who doesn't know how to drive, not just the older people.
Sent from my MB865 using xda app-developers app
How about a mandatory retake of drivers ed courses for people who get in more than two accidents in five years?
It sounds good in principle, but I have literally seen DMV employees guiding elderly people through the vision test. I think people here regard driving as a right, not as a privilege and responsibility.

+1. Then, there are the cases of old people driving their cars through buildings (they mistake the accelerator for the brake, in a parking lot, when they start their car). I guess when people get old, everything looks the same.

Yes I live in Florida as well. I lost my driver side mirror because some old ass guy decided he didn't like the lane he was in. To bad I was right next to him and he just starts moving over. Luckily I quick enough to act and he only took out my mirror. I see waaay to many old fools that should not be driving.
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda premium
This is what I thought of when I saw this thread.
I dont think there should be no questions asked cut off age, not everybody ages equally. But for sure tests should be administered after a certain age, if you cant pass the test you shouldn't drive..
I think having to get a doctor's release to drive after a certain age makes the most sense. It's not about age, really, but the mental and physical competency that degrades with age.
Maybe not a max age but they def need to get better at screening with age. I mean, WTF, they are so mean there to everyone at the DMV so why are they being " nice" and letting our old folks get renewed when they shouldn't lol
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 4G using Tapatalk
Definitely should be or least re-test after a certain age
Every summer, Southern California sees a temporary influx of old retirees from Arizona. They drive at very slow speeds on the fast lane of our freeways. We just love them for that :^)
Some Californians call this phenomenon "The invasion of the Zonies".

Oh god yes. Please. Senior drives are as dangerous as, if not more so than, junior drivers.
Going 50 and overtaking!!! on the bloody Autobahn, are you f*cking kidding me... Or just randomly slamming on the breaks in the middle of a corner. Or crossing the intersection without even so much as noticing all the oncoming traffic!
67. (pension-age) After that, every 5 years a re-exam. If you fail, get used to taking a cab.
I think so...
Seen this discussion on a lot of car forums.
I'm a bit neutral as far as opinion.
Some drivers are inherently incapable all thru their driving years then some are careful responsible till the end.
Now that I'm closing in on 60 I'm way more intolerant of others.
In the past I was a very angry aggressive driver...I never got anywhere faster than anybody else.
Haven't really slowed down, I just do my best to be safe and sane with constant self checks when driving.

Manufacture defect in our screens? Internal Dip?

The day i got my Galaxy S4 i went straight to charge the device. I left it on my nightstand which is under a window and when i saw the reflection of my blinds through the screen, they where bent out of shape and the reflection looked distorted. Looking closer, the screen seems to have a circular dip in the middle left-ish area. All the devices I tested this do not have a distort. (iphone 5 and 4S, the SIII)
I'd like for everyone to look at there device and make sure they don't have this also. I cant check the devices over at carrier stores, abit busy sadly...
I've given a Sample of lines that u can use as a test and also left a quick video, ill try to make a better one but its all i could at this moment. Also its extremely hard to get it on a video vs what u see in person =/

Best way's too test are as follows.
1) place your phone right in front of you on your computer desk and look at your Monitors reflection. It works extremely well when you look at Lines or a lot of text.
2) Look at a bunch of stuff that's well lit.

My first galaxy s4 had dead pixels, my second galaxy s4 had scuffing all over it, a large scratch on the MICRO sd card port, overheated and would constantly shut off, followed by the display that completely died a day later. Sprint advised me to give the HTC one a shot. As soon as I got the HTC one home, noticed paint run off, gaps between panels, dings, dents, pretty much the poorest quality control standards I have ever seen. Now I have to find away to get sprint to allow a FOURTH return on a 600.00 device. I may have to get mean, I dont like to act that way, but what sprint has put me through to obtain a working 600.00 high end device is not acceptable, I would not wish the experience I am going through on my worse enemy.
Im not picky, and I understand mistakes when they happen. But two damaged/defective S4's, and one damaged/defective HTC one in matter of 7 days? I really cant even believe it.
All I buy is Samsung products when it comes to electronics, never in my life have I EVER received two defective units in a row. I feel like a crazy crack addict every time I go back to the sprint store and request a replacement. If sprint didn't have a 14 day satisfaction guarantee, I would be out 600.00, because there is no way in a million years samsung or HTC would take responsibility for scuffing or damage to the body of the device. Even with sprints 14 day satisfaction guarantee, you are only allowed 1 device exchange. So basically, im entitled to nothing with this issue, and any day sprint is going to show me the door or refer me to Asurion for a 3 day old 600 dollar phone.

[PSA] Your N5 May Turn Into a Gnex...

Mine did. Had it in my back pocket (stupid, I know, but I'm used to sticking my devices there), and next thing I knew, I had a bent n5 with backlight bleed galore. Seems this is a common problem with the iPhone, but unfortunately I expect to see more n5 users fall into my boat, as I was even being relatively careful to not put excessive weight on it while sitting (and I only weigh 160lb). Save yourself headaches and break any habits you have of putting things in your rear pockets now. :'(

5 inch phone, wallet, keys, pen, headphones, knife, flashlight Some of us may carry guns depending on the country, license status , or occupation. You can hit the need for a "man purse/satchel" very quickly. Sometimes your pants have bigger back pockets so that's where it ends up.

I would like to see this too!
Every time I see someone stick their phone in their back pocket, I give them a bewildered look. Then they ask me why I'm looking at them like that, and I reply, "You actually keep your phone in your back pocket? How can you stand that?"
Goodness gracious, that has to be a chore to sit on, and I've seen a many stories where phones have been broken by being sat on.
Sounds like a human error OP, not a manufacturing error. Nothing to go creating a thread about. Most of us know sitting on your phone is not very smart....

Back in the day, I used to carry my personal Cell Phone on my hip in a case along with my pager for my work and my Palm Pre PDA. I looked like a real Techno Geek for sure. These days, I carry my work phone on my hip only. My PDA and my cell are now one and I carry that in my front pocket. Heck...I get nervous when I bend forward to tie my shoes. But...I live in Canada eh? and carry my cell in my jacket pocket or shirt pocket most of the time now. I've very aware of it at all times as I do not want an accident to happen. Putting it in my back pocket and sitting on it makes me twitch just thinking of it!
Yeah, I never understood the reasoning behind putting a phone in your back pocket. I was always amazed to see someone pull a phone out of their back pocket and see it still turn on.
Something I'd never do though. If needs be I'll just carry a bag, TBH.
