Hi everyone,
First off, my samsung galaxy note n7000 has a strange battery problem. It charges really slowly in the wall but seems to be faster in a pc, and when it finally gets to 100%, I get the notification that says 100% charged; so I unplug and it quite literally jumps to; 1%, 67%, 84%, 15%, it differs everytime. Ive tried a factory reset and wiping cache paralition, nothing has worked. :crying:
This brings me to my second problem, a few months ago I dropped it whilst working(I'm a farmer, which explains why I dont know how to fix it) and the screen glass smashed, but the touch screen works perfectly however if I take it back to the store, will it still be under warranty? Ive only had the phone for six months.
I have tried numerous chargers and batteries, doesnt fix the problem. If its not under warranty, would it be worth waiting for the official samsung ota update to android 4.1 jelly bean, or will the problem carry over.
I hope somebody could help me with this problem and give me advice about whether I'm covered under warranty. Thankyou

Dear kylegriffies,
First on the battery problem, I can think of two possible explanations: 1) the battery aged, you need to change a new battery. But as we have seen you had down it before, so it must be a phone hardware issue. 2) There is a damage in some voltage detection unit, maybe a water damage or something that made it short a little bit?
For your the screen damage, that is an accident I guess. If you have insurance for accidental damage I guess you can fix it, but if not, the screen is not under warranty. Try to ask them if they can fix the circuit problem.
The best way I suggest is taking it to Samsung service center regardless if you have voided the warranty. Sometimes for luck too.
P.S If you work in the farm, I recommend a Otterbox case(if you get your screen replaced), so even if you drop them it's not likely to be damaged.

yeah bought a case as soon as i smashed so it never got worse and i dont have insurance unfortunatly... however, even if my screen is broke, will they still fix my battery problem? if it was a hardware issue... how could i resolve it?

Samsung will change it in warranty. I see no reason since battery related unit and screen is pretty irrelevant.

Hey everyone
So, I have a bit of a problem... My HTC One keeps destroying every charger cable I'm using, sooner or later. I've tried about 5 or 6 different chargers, including 3 original chargers, and as you might understand this is getting pretty expensive (especially as original chargers are priced around 20.- in Switzerland).
I'm gonna spare you the details, but there are a few things that might be interesting to anyone who wants to help.
The progress is always the same: First, the phone is charging only when sth. is weighing the connector down (this is something many of my HTC One-owning friends are complaining about, too). Next, the phone will charge only when the cable is bent behind the back of the phone. This will work for some time, until the phone refuses to charge when plugged into the wall and can only be charged by trickle charging it from a USB port (which is what I'm currently doing). Here, the cycle is repeated, only that this time the cable dies entirely.
Curiously enough, this happens with every charger and, as it seems, the deterioration quickens with each new cable.
Also, what usually happens pretty quickly is that the connector doesn't lock into place anymore. I have cleaned the port multiple times following instructions from Youtube videos, but to no avail.
Since my phone is rooted, I unfortunately can't just go to my provider and ask them for a new phone. They'll probably blame it on the software or whatever... Use this Guide to return to Stock and do a warranty replacement
It looks like you have 2 problems. The first one is the microusb port has been damaged. This has happened to me on another phone and it would explain why the wire is sliding out. For this reason, you might consider replacing it under warranty. The second problem seems to be tension in the charging wire. I do not know how you have charging setup, but I am guessing that the outlet is far away and you are stretching the cable to make it to the phone. This could cause the wire to have discontinuity (why you have to bend it to short the discontinuity and resume charging) and the microusb port to get damaged. I would recommend getting a longer wire if this is the case.

ok, where did you buy if from ?
I bought it at Microspot and they replaced it twice...
Both times, I was S OFF, LOCKED Bootloader and stock recovery using a RUU...
The second time I even had a "bülä/näggi" on my phone... they replaced it on warranty...
I had the purple tint camera issue D:

they won't notice it but you need some good argument's that this issue isn't caused by software... first go back 100% stock using this guide:

and then test if your phone still eats these cables..., return it to the shop...
use these arguments to convince them if they don't wanna replace it:
I hope you can do something with these informations and if they want to charge you - or even to be prepared - I have a few examples how you can convince HTC that this issue is not caused by you and that this is covered by warranty.

Hi guys, I hope you can help me out here.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, I originally purchased it in Malaysia, broke it and took it to Malaysian Samsung and had it replaced on the warranty. Fast forward 8 months later I am back in the UK, my phone is completely unmodified, original everything.
I place it on charge whilst I am using it in bed, I notice that it stops charging after a while of me using it, I assumed I must've knocked the cable, so I readjust it and carry on as normal until I put it on the side and go to sleep.
After waking up in the morning it becomes apparent that it didn't charge at all and the battery died in the night, I check the usb is still plugged into the phone and the plug socket, all a-okay. Strange. I then asked for my housemates charger, no luck still wouldn't charge.
A few days later a replacement battery arrives, also wouldn't charge. Must be the USB then surely? Well, I replaced that also, tested both batteries with it and still no luck.
Any idea guys? I'd hate to see an 8 month old phone die for no reason.

P.S. I have tried it from a wall socket and my PC USB.
Maybe the USB port is busted? Was it hotter than normal when you last used it? Have you submerged it in water before the incident happen?

I have tried replacing the USB and it hasn't fixed it at all, and at no point has this one been submerged. I learned not to do that with the one that had to be replaced on warranty :/
Also all of the moisture indicators on the inside haven't been triggered, so it's not water damage.

Just to be clear, you have replaced the usb port and not the usb cable, right? Have you tried letting a Samsung rep look at it? I know that the warranty can't be claimed but you could ask them to just check on it. Ask for an approximate price to fix it, canvass other repair stores and search for the parts needed so you can do it yourself if you want.

Yeah I replaced the flex ribbon inside the phone itself. I was trying to get it sent into Samsung, but my Cyber Service Centre account stopped accepting my password and wouldn't accept any reset passwords, and Samsung stopped responding to my emails :/
I also emailed a British Samsung repair shop and they told me that they wouldn't look at it because it wasn't bought within the EU.

That's unfortunate. I can't think of anything else aside from it being a motherboard issue. If it is, it will cost a lot. If you can, try going to other repair centers around your area; you might find one who can hopefully help you. Best of luck.

I got my XSP 17 days ago and it's already giving me this weird problem. I bought it brand new (well, I got it from a possibly shady reseller in Russia, but it looked new and un-tampered, I checked it carefully ).
It worked perfectly as my main phone for about two weeks (with the official stable CM 11) when suddenly, it started switching off by itself. When it first started doing this a couple of days ago, it would shut off randomly twice or thrice a day, but today it switches off about every 5 minutes. Sometimes it doesn't even complete the boot sequence before it turns off.
The effect is just about the same as pulling the battery out. One moment you're using the phone, the next moment the screen is blank. No vibrations, no errors, no lights, nothing. It can be turned on normally and works for a short while before turning off again.
I haven't been able to isolate the problem to any single use case - it turns off with and without the SIM, with/without the SD card, on airplane mode and off, with the screen on or off.
It turns off with every combination of CM11, CM12 and stock that I tried, with stock kernel, default CM kernel, William's kernel and Tangerine kernel.
Although I don't want to admit it, it looks like it's a battery problem. Perhaps the battery lost capacity sitting around in a warehouse for two years? Either that or I was duped by the place I got it from, which seems unlikely as it was spotless in its original packing with all the plastic bits covering the screen, camera and microphone, and a warranty sticker over a screw on the back. Besides, they've given me a one-year service guarantee (it's not the official Sony warranty, though).
Mine is the C5303 model.
Has anyone had this problem? Can anyone suggest what I could do about it? It's a great phone except for this problem

you should try to flash a stock ftf ROM with flash-tool ....if the problem still happen with you then i'm afraid it's a hardware problem

Thank you for your response, but I've already tried that, to no avail. This makes me think it's definitely a hardware problem that's related to either the battery or the charging circuit.
However, a recent experiment I tried seems to contradict this. I left the phone on CWM recovery for about 40 minutes and it didn't switch off! I even ran a backup to add strain to the battery, but no, it stayed on.
This indicates that it might not be a battery problem - a battery problem should affect the phone in recovery as well as inside the Android OS.
One major difference between CWM and Android is that Android runs the radios, while a recovery has no need to. Could it be a chance bug in the radio firmware? Is there any way to reflash the radio firmware?

actually i never saw a radio firmware to flash ......but it's not a battery problem for sure ....maybe cpu can't handle the ROM running or like you said radio don't run in cmw then it mite be the cause of the problem
but anyway it's a hardware ...since you are flashing a stock ftf via flashtool then the radio shouldn't have any problems at all !
so you need to go to service center i think to repair it ...sorry for not finding an answer or a direct solution for your problem

I have another question, if anybody can answer: what does the original guarantee sticker look like? Mine is the one in the attachment, stuck over the central screw.
I'm beginning to think that it's a fake sticker stuck by the shop that sold it to me

I don"t have this Sticker. The Sony Ericson Joint-Venture was ended Yeats before the SP came out... Looks like it is from another phone...

Cwm doesn't use a high current.
Because of stuff I can't explain in English, it could be possible the battery delivers enough Voltage but not enough current for booting up.
Although, it seems more likely to be a RAM error. Yeah, that can happen on phones too.
That would explain the very random behavior.
Cwm doesn't change anything in the RAM when it does nothing. That's why the error doesn't occur then.

AHA! Now this got me thinking. I flashed a fresh ROM without gapps, set the maximum processor clock to 384 MHz, turned down the brightness, switched off WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, etc., and now it works perfectly fine without switching off! Looks like you're right, the battery can't produce enough current.
I can now reproduce the problem reliably by setting governor to performance @1.7GHz, turning up the brightness, switching on all the devices mentioned above and recording video. The moment I touch the button to stop recording, the extra strain caused by flushing the buffer to the memory causes the phone to switch off. Bingo! :good:

It means the battery is weak. I guess the phone itself should be fine.
When a bettery gets old, it can get a higher resistance. Yeah, batteries have a resistance too. In German it's called Innenwiderstand. Literally translated "inner resistance". It's the same effect like when your car's battery is old. Your stereo still gets its 12V, but trying to start the car will let the curcuit "die" for a few seconds.
The battery in the SP can be replaced, it's not that hard. There are some great videos on YouTube. Please don't buy a battery that is sold as original! Sony doesn't sell spare batteries for the SP. If it says original, it's used or fake.
Buy a battery from a seller who admits it is not from Sony. He is honest to you. Make sure it's a spare battery with good cells in it. Like Varta etc.

Thanks for the heads-up! I've called multiple repair centers and they've all told me they can give me original batteries. I'd better be careful, then!
Do you have any idea where I can order a good battery, or how I can identify which ones are good?
I will be in Eastern Europe next week, where it's easier to get deliveries from eBay, etc. I might even visit Germany! Any suggestions on how to find a battery are welcome.

That's the one I would buy. You see that this not-original battery is more expensive than the "fauxriginals"? There's a reason
You can buy elsewhere too. Make sure the seller has got many good ratings over a long period of time.
A few terrible ratings aren't a problem. There are always some noobs who break their spare parts and blame the seller.
E.g. on Amazon, look for many 4-star and 3 star ratings. They are real. Bought ratings are almost always 5 star ratings.
Don't buy where all ratings are 1 or 5 stars.
The capacity may differ from the original 2300mAh. 2100mAh to 2500mAh is fine. More than 2500mAh should be fake.
You can also buy on eBay where the seller admits it's a used battery in good condition.
I don't think you can buy this battery "" offline". If you do, make absolutely sure the connectors look like in the pictures in Amazon!
In Germany, there are lot Mobile Phone Shops with an Internet Café. Mostly, they are owned by Turks.
Usually, they have a good service. They can replace the battery for you for a few bucks. If you can't be served in one shop, they'll sometimes tell you where a shop is where they can help you.

It's possible that it is caused by another component. We can't know. Buying a New battery is the cheapest option. I don't see another way to find out.
There are bad third party batteries too. But I trust someone who admits it's third party more. Just rely on the ratings...

Flash cm 12.1 only with gapps and supersu. Do not touch the kernel settings, dont make the phone overheat too much and try. Try to discharge the battery at 0% 2-3 times and recharge it with the stock charger and cable.
Can you install cpu z and tell us what voltage it reads when your battery si charged to 100% and disconnected from charger ?
It should be 4.2V i have my XSP for a year now and my battery reads 4.130V at 100%.

Hi guys, I'm back from Europe.
I know it's been a really long time, but I just wanted to update the thread in case anyone else has the same problem and finds this thread.
Before leaving, I purchased a new "original" battery at a local shop (a pretty large scale distributor).
It looks identical to the battery that was already in the phone, and also identical to the batteries in all the videos I've seen on youtube. The SONY branding is covered by a thin plate of copper, but it's there, so I assume it's not fake.
It cost me 1300 RUB (~20 USD). There was a "Craftmann" branded battery also available, but it was 3x more expensive, so I didn't buy it.
Well, the phone works fine. In the past ~2 months, it hasn't turned off even once, and the battery lasts a day with decent use (~3h GPS guidance, ~1h FM transmitter, always connected to LTE, messaging and email, occasional calls), so I consider the issue solved.

Hey guys, so I bought a used Note 8. The battery has drained down to 0% in the past and this wasn't an issue until a month and half after I bought it. I was watching a youtube video then fell asleep. Wake up and try to charge my phone and it won't charge. I try some tricks I find online and none works. So i go to a phone store and get the battery replaced. That was two weeks ago.
Fast forward to last night and the same thing happens and my phone won't charge. I've seen two different threads about this on the Samsung forums website. I was wondering anyone else here has had this problem and how they fixed it.
It will appear that my phone's circuit is faulty and I'd need to sell mine and buy a new one, hopefully free of these issues. Have any of you experienced this?

Thanks I'll look into it. So buying a new T Mobile NOte 8 wouldn't be worth the risk cause the issue might show up again?
I'm gonna go after that tool but now I wonder if this issue would happen again if my battrey deplets over time even if my phone is off
It's NOT a Note 2!, It's a Note 8. It still has warranty. Same thing happened to mine, 0% and would not come back on nor charge. The service center changed the charge port and battery and still no charging. Then they changed the mainboard and now it works fine. WARRANTY
There was a guy on here who managed to fix it without changing hardware.

One fix for 0% battery is to plug-unplug charger for 30 minutes or so until it gets enough power to turn on(didnt work for me). Another fix I read about was to open phone and "shock" battery back to life. I like my solution....WARRANTY. If the phone is dead, and there is no physical damage and no water damage when they open it, then they WILL fix it.
Does this occur with the Exynos variants?

I bought it pre owned from swappa but what I did do was slap a Warranty Life wrranty on it. Its $50 deducatable. I used it to get it open and replaced the battery last time. And it was quick and painless except for the 50 bucks from the local repair store that supported Warranty Life. Are you saying Samuing itself would take the phone? Even if I bought it second hand? I thought you'd need to pay for their premium care thing

Yes Samsung would take it in for repair. I did not provide an invoice when I brought to repair center(UbreakiFix). They know its under warranty because the phone is under 1 year old.

I don't know, but I drained mine to zero once by accident, so I plugged it in for a bit and it booted up fine.

Step 1: Called Samsung and told them phone is dead. They asked for my name and phone number(just for the call not for warranty purpose), and asked for IMEI
Step 2: Gave them my Postal Code(Canada) and they found an authorized service center near me(in this case it was a UbreakiFix. They are now Samsung authorized and everywhere).
Step 3: Brought it to UbreakiFix and they did not ask for anything but my name and phone number, to call me when it was ready.
Step 4: Picked it up a week later(because they had to order a new mainboard). If it was just a battery or usb charge port, probably would have been a day or two.
Step 5: Walked out of the service center having not paid one cent for the repair (usb charge port, battery and mainboard all changed, something like $700 repair cost)...because it is under WARRANTY. The phone is less than one year old(released in September 2017 here in Canada) and it comes with a standard one year warranty.
The repair center looks for physical damage and water damage(once it's opened). If they don't find damaged caused by the user, they fix it. The only problem I had with Samsung was with an S7 a few years back. The screen started to flash(blink) and they refused to fix it. No physical damage at all but it was rooted. They said too bad we won't fix(even though root did NOT cause this problem). The screen was defective and phone was a few months old. What I should have done was fried the f*ckin mainboard (can't see if rooted) and they would have fixed it. Live and learn....

Not all Note 8s have this problem. Definitely some out there do and Samsung has acknowledged this.

I know, I was just replying to the guy who asked if it specifically affected Exynos. You're right though, it seems to be a problem with some units but not all devices.

Hmm so you think replacing my mainboard would stop this from happeneing again? Replacing the battery the first time this happened fixed the issue? When yours was fixed, did it do it again? or was it the mainboard was fried?

The mainboard was not fried. When they changed the damaged usb charge port(and the battery as per Samsung policy), it powered up, but would still not charge. So the next step was a new mainboard. From my understanding, and what the tech guy told me, these authorized Samsung service centers follow Samsung's procedure when warranty repairing a device.
It's been more than a month and no problems so far. It's like I got a new phone

Yeah they do. I'm sure I'm gonna have the same issue again. If I purposefully let the battery drain to 0, i'm sure this stuff will happen again. I don't want to be caught with my pants on the ground. I'm thinking, get the mainboard/pone replaced will stop me from ever having to fret again.
Have you ever tried letting the battery go to 0% with your new phone?
It's very rare my phone goes to 0%. I always charge at night because I want a fully charged phone in the morning. I don't want to experiment or test this new repair by killing the battery on purpose. From what I have been reading(and I read a lot when this happened to mine), it not a good idea to completely discharge lithium batteries. That doesn't mean if you do, the battery should fail, it's just better for the life of the battery.

So you haven't tested to see if it'd happen again? I've heard this is an issue with like 25% of them. I had drained my battery to 0 like once or twice before this happened. I don't want this to happen anymore and I am sure if I were to sell this to somoen else, they'd have gotten to a point where the drained to 0%. Most avg user don't know this and I dont' want a phone that can run into a danger of doing it
Hi.
Well this is a longer story. I try to tell the thumbnails.
The phone got (ocean) wet but didn't show problems for about a week or two then it stopped charging "normally" meaning charging got very slow and drained fast. Figured it was the little usb panel on the bottom. I ordered new one but putting it back together a screw stuck between the battery and the metal backplate. Pretty lame huh? I disassembled it fast so I thought sigh no problem. (the battery was on fire after i got it out and threw it on the ground in anger)
So I bought a new - not original - battery too. All ran fine again like it was before.
Then suddenly The phone turned off and looked like it was a bootloop.
Here's the interesting part because I don't remember if I already unlocked and put custom recovery / image on the phone before or only at this ponint. Mark this point.
After this, the phone only turned on while on the HP laptop's usb port with the little thunderbolt on it. Must have some tremendous juice or something. The phone shows 0% drained, not charging.
I switched cables, the usb part and battery again but still the same with both batteries, cables etc. Factory reset naturally.
My question is basically if this can happen because of a faulty/bad version/whatnot bootloader (I think i use TWRP) or this is a motherboard failure then? I don't have a HP laptop and have to search for one in case you say it does worth a try.

did you read the whole post? it's unlocked, modified, was taken apart, parts exchanged.

start with test point method and flash a full, and official stock rom? yes.
