@leecorp
go for froyopro :good:
@ OP.. damage..no..but because every flash will write some files in flash drive..flash drives have limited read write cycles so your flash drive will degrade negligibly but faster.. so almost no effect..

Absolutely no side effects,don't worry

Your X8 may burst into a ball of flames that is if you charge it while frying it in oil...no, it will not have any side effects. However, keep in mind if you're like me and you need to constantly flash test builds of roms, you may damage your nand..now I have never faced this problem but GDX's dev, eagleeyetom faced this problem...dont worry. This sort of thing is rare

Thank you for your valuable Information bro
can you teach me how to build Custom ROMs?

+1 to what Rohin said. While this may affect your phone only slightly, it has a great effect on your mind. It is the cause of a disease known as ORD (Obsessive Rom-updating Disorder). I don't mean to scare you, but the only cure doctors were able to find was to break the phone into pieces and to never let the patient near any phone again, especially Android ones.
P.S This may seem like a troll post (well the doctor bit is) but it is actually a fact. Nothing else.

ORD is Obsessive ROM Updating Disorder.

just wipe completely you can change every hour

It's OFD (Obsessive Flashing Disorder), not ORD

Anyways, the main point is it doesn't affect the phone (except in some cases); it affects the mind. It's an addiction. And Rohin would you mind if I nominated you for RC?

You Guys scaring ME! What is That!! i am not Addicted.. but when every time i install a ROM i am not comfortable with it! because i am not satisfied with it at some point!
I am looking for a speedy, snappy and full featured ROM that live longer in my Device but AFTER a WEEK... it's Walking... instead of Jetting!!!
Sorry For BAD ENG!

On your site by uploading a rom I always added above the so-called processor. build.prop file by changing the processor to get 825MHz in my case, I was playing it on Froyo rom and reached the max 787mhz

[Q]Captivate's flaws

For the last 5 months I've been an Xperia x10 user.
After quite a bit of frustration I'm considering moving to Captivate.
Are there any flaws which I should know of?
Closed bootloader? camera issues? gps issues? signal? lack of support from samsung?
I know that it's a bit hard to answer honestly in a loving community but I don't really want to make the same mistake as I did with the x10.
So any little frustration you know of, I'll be glad to hear.
So far I've been browsing the forums and it seems a LOT easier to brick your phone and most of the ROMs and kernels are modified i9000.
Anything else?
Thank you for your patience.

Yes.
Sometimes.
Yes, but that's why you're here.
Make or buy yourself a jig and learn how to flash.
Last thought, read the stickies many times.

Well honestly its all about opinion because each persons captivate is different the bootloaders are not locked its pretty hard to brick if you have any sense at all and read the directions. The gps is questionable by that I mean its a toss up it might work excellent or it might be crap the camera is alright I like it but once again its opinion there is tons of support in this community which means a whole lot of great roms to try. But honestly the descesion comes down to what do you want I've had my cappy since September last year and I love it I think its amazing. Just watch and read a bunch of reveiws and comparisons just to see if its the phone for you I hope I helped a little bit and good luck

The jig is a tool that connects pins 4 and 5 of the USB jack to force the phone into download mode from almost any state. It's useful when you need to get to a low-level state to fix problems that can't be fixed any other way, and when you can't use button combinations or software to get there.

Thank you very much for the answers.
So far the community looks really supportive although I'm still torn between captivate and atrix.
The jig cost me $1.19 + tax at radio shack. Took about 3 minutes to make. Used a little scotch tape and BLOW!, almost no risk of bricking your phone.
I'm pretty new to Android and XDA, but have been very impressed with the Captivate community. I'm running Continuum 4.0 and have had very few problems, but you should note that after flashing custom ROMs with a new kernel and modem, it will take a few recharge cycles (2-3) to give you an accurate picture of battery performance.

i am bout to buy the gnote..have been reading about rooting nd custom rom..nd want to rotate homescreen..
As far as i know ther are more cons than pros to rooting..such as bricking..
But some ppl get faulty phones with bad battery life, auto shutdown, lags..over heating..
I dont know what to do..
I do think that its a great phone nd wont require rooting..as ics is coming..nd hopefully jellybean soon after that..

There's no cons to rooting whatsoever, provided the user reads and follows the rooting guide in the Dev section. It's easy and trouble-free. There's been but a single instance (Angelom's ICS kernel combined with touch-recovery) of mass bricking. That kernel is out of circulation now, so nothing to fear there.
All other 'plz help, bricked' threads are created by the people who were careless and didn't read, period.

Battery life depends on what user does with their phone, IMO. If one keeps all syncing, GPS, data and whatnot on all the time, their battery will be shot on any phone.

wow duude!
Cheers like, your reply was just great!
Yeh! I just stick to Dr. Ketans guide to rootin as tis easy to understand and great. Others have so much updates and editin it becomes hard to keep track as my net provider is messed up... i get only 5-6 kbps
Should i actually get a custom rom, or its no use as the stock rom and ics is coming up.
Is gnote actually worth it or should i get some other phone ( N.B. i am getting the phone imported and i wont have warranty applicable after shipping it out of europe... and the sending faulty phones back from here is risky as it hardly makes it through due to customs.
I also had some hard time thinking about buying SGN. Now I have it for 2 weeks running on stock ROM (I don't have time now for rooting $ stuff...) and I don't have any problem at all.
My advise - Go For It!

If you follow the exact method described in the Dr. Ketans guide thread there's no risk of bricking.
At present you cannot find a power house like this in the market... Even you can make this device much more powerful upto 1.7 ghz speed... Nothing can beat this at the moment (as per my knowledge) So if you want power house like this, there's no other option than buying this beast. Definitely it worth it.
Regarding custom rom... Its good but if you wanna feel like this device is made exactly for you.. Go for a custom rom.. Its lots of fun and excitement.. You can make this to work which ever way up want..
Buy it.. And make others envy..
One thing I will say, get a case for it straight away. The placement of the power/volume buttons make it a hard phone to use "naked". I got a rubber bumper case and used box cutters to take out the notches where the buttons are, to make them recessed to allow me to hold the phone how I prefer. Makes the whole experience much more comfy especially for gaming.
P.S. Overclocking reduces the lifespan of any device. You're trading lifespan for speed. If anything I would underclock it to give it better thermal control.
Guys did you know what is the best retail price to buy a GNote and the site

Should I stay (with ICS) or should I go (back to gingerbread)?

I'm currently running ICS 4.0.4 on nAa-ics-03. I've tried a couple of ROMs, currently got IscreamDX. but I'm really frustrated with it.
Getting loads of lags. Apps randomly shutting down. Slow response times. It will randomly just freeze for several minutes with a black screen - no led response, nothing sometimes i'll do this when I'm running an app (camera, a game, facebook anything really) sometimes it will be in this state when I get it out of my pocket. Then it'll just start working again.
I've seen that nAa ics-04 is out. Will that make a difference or is there a ROM that is stable?
Or should I just admit that the X8 just doesn't have the hardware to run ICS and go back to an older version of android?
there is no absolute opinion.
try it yourself!
try ics-04 kernel and see if there is difeerence, and if this difference is enough for you
try some gingerbread roms and decide what suits you better!
its up to you
 Dude we don't post such questions in XDA
But anyways it's your and your decision only to decide.
How can we tell that on which rom or version you should be ?
You can stay on ICS if you like the UI
If you want performance you can go back to GB

Why I thought I'd get a sensible answer here I don't know.
I can ask this question because 1)someone might have already tried nAa ics 04 and seen it still uscks or it is much better
2)someone might have found a ROM that doesn't freeze all the time
3)saying I can't ask a question is a fascist answer

I didn't said that you can't ask questions !
See if you want a GB rom with good performance you can try the following
GingerZaraki with alfs8 GingerZaraki= Lightweight
Gingerdx with alfs8 Gingerdx=Full of features
Use MiniCM9 if you want ICS..
Actually I forgot how GB feels because I'm using MiniCM9 with naa ics4 for the past 1 and a half months. With minimum apps installed. (Only BMX boy, DoodleJump)
Don't use facebook or maps. They are great ram eaters !
yeah!
if you don't want some laggy just go back on GB!
try and choose some GB ROM in XDA
respect our DEV dude!
remember if our phone (X8) has a low memory..
so ICS ROM like MiniCM9 has a great job to make an ICS ROM for our poor phone!
try and keep trying dude!
This thread is like :
Should i buy Cola or Pepsi ?
But no one cares what juice i buy...
I mean,personally i adore ics,but videos are slow,youtube doesnt work,cant watch videos over skyfire.
Gb has less bugs, but i think will go for ics.
It depends on whether you are willing to sacrifice performance of GB over beautiful look of ICS. I reverted because I couldn't bear the decrease in responsiveness and speed and I use over 60 apps and that's unthinkable on ICS for X8. As a matter of fact, ICS is really a brilliant display of what great developers can achieve and not a daily-use system for our weak X8. The new Xperia Tipo is quite similar to X8 in price and has better HW and stock ICS

[Q] Android 4.2.2 for x8?

More like a rage, than a question, but... why is there no one trying to port 4.2.2 for ours x8?
Many lower spec phones have a port, wich to be fair, do have bugs, but at least have it. What happened to the x8 dev scene? Many thanks to nAa for keeping x8 alive, but is there no one else that can scratch the surface of 4.2.2? Plus with the .32 kernel aren't things supposed to be fair easily in porting?
I see nAa wrote 4.1.0 is coming, but... i sure would want 4.2.2 for my baby

I must admit that I am working on that but I'd prefer you to be patient in this area
For experience of 4.2.2 we need many requirements, ex:
unlocked BL
A new kernel (for bugless roms)
Enough knowledge for cooking kernel(we need to partition internal memory{for heavy 4.2.2} which was not necessary on gb)
Jtag tools (cooking kernel is a sensitive progress & hard bricks is so regular)
& just some developers have the knowledge & tools for cooking
#& I'm pretty sure if a recognized developer cook that kernel there will be a lot of roms for working on it

[Q] Frequently flashing ROM

Hi all SGSA users.. i want to ask a question.. Does frequently flashing new custom ROM affect our phone's hardware..like chipset or whatever they are in this phone? Just wondering because everytime a new custom ROM is uploaded, i will test them.. Priority to all DEV's and expert to answer or give opinion regarding this issue..
No it will not... well at least not in a way that you would notice it. of course you loose some battery life by that (not more than when you would play with your smartphone in a normal manner) flash drives can be flashed up to a few 100,000 times and so it will not destroy your phone...
talking about software that might get messed up is another thing...

Some Flsh drives break after a few 1000 flashes but it ranges between a few 1000 and a few 100000 flashes
I mean that when you flash every single rom you get your hands onto chances are that you might break something. In other words, yes, soft or maybe even hardbrick (unsure about that). but if you are a bit aware of the dangers then there is not too much that can happen... If you always have a NANDroid backup then it is really really hard to do something bad enough to not be able to fix it.
Sorry for my bad english
Technically speaking, your nand gets derped every single time you flash it, and that includes official updates. But the difference is so small that you won't even notice it. If you somehow manage to preserve this device for the next 10 years in a working condition, you will feel the difference..
