Benefits of rooting the KFHD? - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought some for my kids and I was wondering if there are any benefits to rooting the devices and any drawbacks (other than the obvious bricking) too? Am I locked in to the Amazon Prime "walled garden" if I don't?

Well, I rooted it to achieve easier modifying ... I live in Europe and I was on business trip so it made my life easier ... If you have access to amazon Prime and you don't need alternative launcher then you don't meet rooting at all...

3RD Generation

Hello there fellow XDA'ers. I was wondering if you could lend me a hand and help me understand as I'm completely lost and will consider myself a newb (noob) with the kindle fire hd. I was wondering if theres any roms/recovery for the 3rd generation 7 inch fire hd's and if so would you mind helping me out. Ive been looking for the last week to try to find anything and I'm at a complete roadblock. Please help.

Rootable but no ROMs
You need to be at KFSOWI modding https://plus.google.com/communities/115612726860884592519
If you rooted with Firerooter, trust that community--there are no supported ROMs for Fire OS4. If you haven't rooted, go root. Might find you're good without a ROM. It's easy to block most Amazon and use Gapps on any custom launcher you like. Or best of all possible worlds, set it up so you can switch back and forth between custom launcher and Amazon with one tap.

Questions about touchwiz and Root

Hi, I'm new to the forums, but wanted to ask here because I know the users of this site tend to be much more knowledgeable than other android forums. Basically I've been a loyal Note user for a few years. I started way back with the Note 2, then moved to the 3 when it came out, then 4, and now the 5 a month or so ago. Since I've been using the note for so long I'm very accustomed to touchwiz and other Samsung features, I love my s-pen.
With that said, I'm looking to gain root access to my Note5. I never rooted any of my other Notes, never felt the need to. But now I'm looking for some additional features that require root, like remote GPS toggling and a few specific apps. Aside from that, I want to keep everything else as is. I want to keep touchwiz, I want my S-pen features like air command, and everything else that comes stock with the note 5. I'm not looking for any crazy ROMs, just basic root access on the Note5 while keeping it just as it is out of the box. I understand all methods will trip Knox and void warranty and I'm OK with that.
So can anyone point me to, or guide me in gaining root access without affecting touchwiz and other stock Note5 features, other than Samsung pay?
Thanks
Edit to add... by the way I'm on Tmobile
Dr. Ketan has a great guide on how to root note 5s and just generally an all-in-one thread. Read it and follow the instructions. Just know that after rooting, sometimes, there are issues with the phone going to deepsleep. There are ways around it. Also, after rooting you can never be on all stock unrooted firmware because of the deepsleep issue. After rooting you also won't get OTAs. Pretty much you're on your own after rooting. This series of galaxy devices is different from other more dev friendly devices like the nexus line because you can never come back to complete stock without the deepsleep issue(battery drain while idle). Good luck

Thank you for response...Yes understand OTAs will be gone, I plan to unroot for those and reroot...I understand pros and cons, I'm just worried about losing Samsung features

New t mobile note 4 sm-n910t3 ver 5.1.1 root??

Hello Everyone!
I just got a New t mobile note 4 SM-n910T3 lollypop? 5.1.1
I have been Cruzin this site and the web all night looking on how to root this phone without tripping knox
I am on a satellite internet service (HUGHESNET) and it is so very slow at times and only 250 megs of web surfing per day and I just about burned up my days allotment today trying to figure this phone out and rooting it
was going to get a note 5 but you can't replace a battery or add a sd card. most of Samsung new models are like the note 5, then finding out about this 5.1.1!! it looks like Samsung does not like people that buy there phones to modify or customize what they pay $500 to $700 for
So what is the best way to root this phone?? without tripping the knox
there is www.towelroot.com does this trip knox?
pingpong root?
one click root?
kingroot?
man o man this seems to go on and on
I wish the moderators here would make a thread on tested rooting processes so those of us that
do not have the skills that most people here at XDA do!! So like this post I think there are many many more like mine here!
Sorry if this has been posted by someone else
At this time and for the foreseeable future it will be impossible to not trip KNOX, every time Samsung updates it blocks you from messing with the firmware and all the methods you mentioned are "absolite" and do not work.
You need a new carrier with more power.
Pp.
Thank you for a reply but
You need a new carrier with more power. ???
I am on t mobile service are you saying go to AT&T more power??
Sorry I do not understand (You need a new carrier with more power. )
cf autoroot wont work on this phone??
so if I did not mind tripping knox what would be the best way to root this phone
I rooted my old Note 3 in October 2013 and read there is a hardware switch (like a fuse) that get's tripped when specific software changes are made. I don't know for sure that this is true, but the effectiveness of Knox can be seen in your difficulty of finding a way to circumvent it. If developers had found a way around it in the last 2+ years, it would be wildly popular and easy to find.
No, if you want root, you have to trip Knox. If you're with T-mobile, though, you may find it helpful to know I have not had an issue with getting support, including a replacement, for Knox-tripped phones.
XDA is set up in forum format so that you can read the results of personal testing and make your own choices. Yes, it would be great if they were made for us, and it would be great if everything on our phones worked all the time regardless of the hacks we do. You are hacking you phone. You get to decide how to do it. Usually there is risk of losing features, and often you can add features, like root. You get to decide what features are worth what risk. Happy reading.

Hey so have you actually rooted a SM-N910T3 and unlocked bootloader and all?? I am desperate to get my rooted and flashed with a clean rom. please help.

To root or not to root?

Hi everybody,
I’ve prereserved my Note 9, and while waiting for the release date I’m scrolling through the news and forums just to get teased a bit more
A question I’m asking myself though, is: do I really need to root this phone? I’ll lose some functionalities by rooting it (samsung pay/android pay, safetynet apps, knox...) but I’ll surely miss others too (adaway, xposed, tweaks...)
I always rooted all my devices unconditionnaly, like it’s part of my default setup, but do you guys think it’s still needed those days? Is there really a benefit, or can you live without root?
I use to be an avid 'root my phone asap' kinda guy, but the main reason was for wireless hotspot. It's included in most plans now, so I don't feel the need to. I liked getting a cleaner build, less bloatware. To each there own, but with a locked bootloader here in the US it may be a while as you'll need a unlocked version. Carriers here will have it locked down.
the first thing i'm going to do with the phone when i get it is rooting it, hopefully there is a working twrp and there is no oem timeout for unlocking the bootloader.
i can't live without adaway and titanium backup.
releasedate is thursday next week in sweden, can't wait, i have preordered the 512gb model in blue.
Not worth it anymore. Used to be mandatory when Android wasn't as feature rich and mature, but no reason for me to anymore.
In my case root would be needed only for app data transfer from the old phone. After that I don't see the need of root.
Anyway.. how about knox fuse trip and warranty?
Is this still a thing today? Was it in Note 5 7 8?
I know it was in Note 4. But what about later models?
I used to root, but not any more. I get the US unlocked version to cut down on the bloatware. Samsung has made it sooo easy to theme and skin the phone that it's pointless to root for that. Samsung pay is awesome and I use it more and more every day. Smart Switch has taken the place of Titanium back up, and it's free and very simple to use. Also with the 512gb version I ordered , not too worried about the few programs that I dont like but are included.

I used to root the second i got a device, however since the 8 and also with the 9 i dont bother any more, all the reasons before were to get better battery life slim down etc, i just use package disable pro now and im done. Besides no point in tripping knox loosing secure folder and faffimng around to get google pay working etc. I love to tinker but the benefits are just not there any more imho
Most probably first phone i will not root. especially for warranty purpose with the know feature
Thanks for the input Now that I have some answers I can give my insights too. I think I'll (be able to) wait a few days before being tempted to root it, but I'm pretty sure there will be a day, especially when Samsung will drop updates and I'll have to use custom ROMs if I want to stay up to date or maybe get the Note 10 port
The things I would miss if I don't root are: Adaway, TWRP (flashing and full backup/restore), MyBackup Pro, debloating, Xposed probably, Viper4Android maybe.
I have been a root on day one guy myself forever. Interesting that people here have not mentioned the privacy issues with all my carrier's supplied bloatware. That crap goes immmmmediately. That was the main reason for rooting for me.

Ultimately, you don't necessarily have to root to debloat. You can just flash and use TWRP for this. Although when you boot into TWRP it triggers Knox and you lose those related functionalities.
This will be the second phone im not gonna root. First was the pixel 3 i need samsung pay in my life and plus im getting the locked sprint version. Im scared tho i really do want a clean build. Going with sammy since the s6. I dont want a phone with a notch so i figure i use my upgrade this year
I will always root the 1st day. Titanium backup, ad-away, TWRP, custom roms with 3minit battery, ability to customize volume buttons, VIPER4ANDROID, sooo many more reasons why. Stock is boring and dull. No reason to be on XDA if you are not rooting and using developers creations.

Yup. Sounds so much better!
I personally stopped rooting since the Note 7 / S7E. I now find Samsung experience to offer me more than enough to keep from rooting. I've rooted all my phones since from the Dream G1 to Galaxy S1, Note 2, to the Note 4.
I root day 0 or I don't buy. Phone is worthless without Titanium backup, ad-away, TWRP.
i'm leaning towards no root. but it may be difficult to swallow at first, i think i've rooted the last 4 galaxies i've had... before that was a Nokia. I will undoubtedly miss ad-away, and i've made good use of Xposed on my recent Note5, but many people mention TitaniumBackup and i just don't use it much anymore. I have done a couple full backups with TWRP and used restore from it a couple times, but lets face it... those are things i wouldn't need if a hadn't broke something in a Root function in the first place! All in all, hoping for the best without Root - I want Knox intact. If you guys don't hear from me in the next week or two, i drowned in advertisements.
I've not rooted since my note 5, after being an instant root and Rom girly. It was previously much more needed, but these days not at all for me.
Best things I've found about not rooting -
- No worries at all about trading in, selling on, warranties, insurance etc.
- No worries about keeping the system ROM up to date, and over the air updates are sooooo easy
- No glitches or issues with radios and hardware etc from non standard roms
For me, the level that the current software and hardware is at has wiped out the need for rooting and flashing custom roms

THIS!
I'd rather have the option, but, no such animal for US Samsung devices.
I can deal w/o it on Samsung devices, thanks to Package Disabler Pro & the ad blocking app Block-This.
Is it a perfect substitute for root?
No, but, this gives me the best of what's important to me with the minimum of compromises.
No interest in non-Samsung based ROMs for this phone, why bother picking up a Note to strip it of its unique features........
Currently using a VZW Note 5 using Package Disabler Pro & Block-This..... Doing just fine, the pragmatic part of my twisted mind (on life support, LOL) tells me to save my money & wait until next year, but, I bought this particular phone in great condition @ a great price, to use solely as a trade-in for T-Mobile"s $500 bill credit.....

Samsung Pay with Rooted S10

Hey Everyone,
So I have a Galaxy S10 that I've had since release. With every other phone I've ever had, I've rooted/jailbroken it. I would very much like to do the same with this one. However, unlocking the bootloader (or perhaps flashing 3rd party things) reportedly trips knox, which in turn disallows Samsung Pay. Idrc about the warranty, just Samsung Pay. I know to many of y'all Samsung Pay is just bloatware, but I literally use it everywhere and on the daily (it substitutes my wallet).
So I know if I say just "can I root without disabling Samsung Pay", many will say "no; obviously it trips knox". But I have two specific questions.
First of all, I read in many guides for older devices (Note 3, S6, S9, etc) that one-click-root solutions don't trip knox, since they don't unlock your bootloader (using an exploit instead). I know that one-click-root solutions aren't the "right" way to do it (given that they use exploits) and I know many contain malware. I've been rooting for years and years, though, and for one of my phones I relied on a one-click-root solution before an official solution was available (I used KingRoot, which later on was revealed to be malware, but basically what I did is just install KingRoot and root my phone and then switch to SuperSU (which was safe at the time before it got bought out). So yeah, again, I understand the risks, but would that avoid tripping knox and therefore disabling Samsung Pay?
My second question is just an idea, not something that I've found to be true, so it's not very likely (but why not I guess). If one were to unlock the bootloader, thereby triggering knox, but then flashed a third party OS, would it be possible / are there any available that have a version of Samsung Pay that doesn't check for knox values (or uses a fake one)? I know that's a lot more complex than it seems, and I doubt that it's available, but just thought I'd ask.
Let me know with responses to these or any other ideas if you feel so inclined! Thanks so much and y'all have a great day!
(ps, sorry for the long post :/)
