I understand that you'd like to know whether the back side of Nexus 4 is made of Corning Gorilla Glass. I will certainly help you.
AdaptiveMesh, only front screen of Nexus 4 is made of Corning Gorilla Glass not the back. If you come across any other information that you'd like to pass along, please feel free to reply to this email.

Gorrila glass protects against keys, knives etc but against particles is where it fails. A substance such as sand would easily cause gorilla glass to scratch

I have two very small scratches on my phone one by the home key and the other above the nexus gonna put best skins ever over it when it arrives and hopefully they won't show anymore

I've contacted LG support again
michelle: Thank you for holding, I checked the phone specs and it seems that the actual front screen of the phone is made of Gorilla Glass only, the back or the back cover it is not.
Alessandro : thanks, i've talked with LG UK, and they told me it is gorilla glass
Alessandro : how's that possible?
michelle: Sorry about that, the back it is not. I will inform our engineers to correct that information

LG has been pretty clear about this since day 1, the back is not Corning Gorilla Glass. They have specifically informed reviewers in the press to not call the back gorilla glass. It is some other kind of hardened glass, either from Corning or another maker. Gorilla Glass is a brand name. Don't get hyped up on brands, they're near-meaningless.

You're comparing it only "by the look"? LOL
Take an iron nail, scratch them both and then compare. Maybe then I'll believe you...

This is really confusing me. Corning said the OB has gorilla glass. But my OB's screen is showing some thin scrapes when tilted.

Tou should ask Corning to respond clearly if "LG-P970 Optimus Black" has GG or not.
If you guys said it is gorilla glass, please do stratch test like this I tried to stratch my Nokia N8 with my keys but i couldnt..

No one would/should try these kind of "test" on their own phone...
If you desperately want the answer, ask LG give you a official written reply.
I have no idea whether it is real Gorilla glass or not.
but why would the LG support answer no? my theory is incompetence
if he/she answer yes, and you "managed" to scratch it, he/she would hold responsible. answer no, then it is your problem... and will persuade you not to scratch the phone.

I think even LG don't know because in their website there is no information about what glass they're using. And their "Support" probably know only information what's written on their webpage.
I checked some other manufacturer webpages, Samsung, Nokia and HTC doesn't mention either if they are using gorilla glass. Only Motorola does.
Maybe they don't know or maybe their marketing team doesn't give a **** about gorilla glass and what difference does it makes.

iSmooth protectors buy 1 set, get 1 set free

I just received my iSmooth protectors today, the packaging is really nice and I love the cloth. I am going to install them in a bit and report back. I noticed in the package a little info card and if you post a review of the protector on Amazon and provide all the proof of review and your Amazon order number they send you another set for free with free shipping. I don't recall anyone mentioning this previously so I thought I would share the information. If you e mail them the Amazon order number, Details of the offer can be found here www.iSmooth.com/freepromo you will receive the same item you purchased or you can choose another similar product in their range. Pretty sweet deal, imo, that's 6 protectors and 2 cloths for just under $11

I think I mentioned it before in another post, they include Thank You card with this info. Indeed a very sweet deal, and they just want your honest opinion/review to receive a second set. But as you know, if you don't like the product you will not request for a second set anyway. Btw, did you receive original screen protectors with green cover film or the new ones with a clear cover film?

There's another thread, a review of the protector and there's pictures. You can see the cut, it's a plainly visual difference in size. Older ones have a green tint on the removable film that you peel off. Newer ones aren't green.

Thanks, I already got a reply from Paul and he's sending out a new set. I love the feel and clarity of the protector, I don't like the cut on this one, too much screen exposed. I finally got the tackiness rubbed off and it feels really nice. I pulled off the jlg protector off my mom's phone, the rainbow was really annoying her. Slapped an iSmooth on it, she's happy now.

You gonna love new version. It's on par with Spigen stuff! The width will be similar to green tint ones, but the cutouts around home button and top of the phone are better. It sticks perfectly, crystal clear, no marks from s-pen, no rainbow effects, and very easy to wipe. Not sure if it was just my sample, I did notice some accumulation of fingerprints, but it's so easy to wipe. No different than Spigen oleophobic. The most important, it feels very smooth, not plasticky at all. This clear version is going to be their new screen protector moving forward in a week or so, as told by Paul.

I just know the guy's name is Paul since he replied back to me. Sorry guys, I probably confused a crap out of everybody with my references to "old" versus "new". I just go by how I understood it originally and what others posted in the forum (I think some of those screen protector posts were removed in favor of a new sticky thread?). Just never mind that whole new vs old stuff. I would say order it, and if everything works great and you are happy - then you are done! They give you lifetime guarantee and you will get 2nd set for free with instructions they provide inside of the shipping package. Also keep in mind, everybody has their own opinion and preference. Some like wet install, others dry. Some want tempered glass, others something else. The tricky part with screen protectors, those are not like cases where its easy to try one versus the other, and then you return whatever you like, or keep a few to change it for different occasions, etc. So, if you find one screen protector you like and happy with it - stop driving yourself crazy (i'm speaking from a personal experience) lol!!! Again, just my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt lol!!!

You mean coming off the left side of the phone? In general, not just iSmooth, if glass is not clean and/or oily from fingerprints on one side then it might have issues with sticking. Have you tried another screen protector from the pack and do you see the same problem? Make sure you wipe your screen really good. I actually buy one of those eye glass little spray bottles - its amazing how it cleans the screen and even screen protector (it works on both glass and plastic).
From the picture you posted, it looks like the original cut. Paul mentioned only something like 5% of original screens were affected by an issue of not sticking edge. If you remember, Note 2 has a glass that slopes down toward the Home button. That is where the troublesome edge could happen. If you see the second protector doing the same thing, even after you clean the screen, contract them and ask for a replacement new batch.
.... note to myself: check with iSmooth if they are hiring tech support lol!!!

Mime glass screen protectors

This video helped me with the protector. Posted it and have had it about a week. It's kinda similar to another glad protector out there. I love it. The clarity is amazing and the finger flow on the glass is great. U do have to wipe the smudges off after a bit but no biggie. The function of the S pen is great. It was a concern for me but as soon as I got it on the S pen was the first thing I tried and no problems.
I've gone through a couple other protectors because I use the S pen a lot and hated the marks left on the screens so paying the $30 didn't concern me. The only thing I have issue with us that at the edges it looks like it's not fully connected but it is. Don't really notice it unless I focus on it but all in all a great protector for someone like me that was looking for something that was sturdy and didn't leave marked when u use the pen.

No I didn't buy the home button. It's a bit recessed but it's not bad and I don't have any problems with turning on the phone. So fast no loss in touch sensitivity, I love this protector. I wanted a protector like this for a long time and now that it is I'm happy. A lot of smudges but a quick wipe and clear as anything.

The purple protector is actually a static cleaner. You use it after using the cleaner to take off any lint or scrap that might be on the screen just before adding the glass screen so its clean and no items. My second one is taking a bit longer to get but received en email from Mime today letting me know that it has been shipped and should arrive shortly. My wife will soon enjoy the protector.

Thats what i'm thinking of, if this is true, then this one I have is telling the truth, at least is stated korean design and made in china, whiles the mime say it's made in the USA.
I actually ordered a spare one and received it, when I posted this in another thread, and during the installation there was a bubble that will not go away, even when I removed this protector a few time, I though it was a uneven glass, and suddenly it turned into a like a oily patch like rainbow effect, and thought it was just my sample, well just last week, it gone away, so now I have a spare one.
Don't get me wrong my spare one is not for sale, so please don't PM me.
I'm really happy with this and at a price i paid, can't really fault it, and a highly recommended product, whether it's my chinese version or the mime branded version.

I was wondering about this one and its s-pen responsiveness.

fyi Sprint S4 does not include gorilla glass

So I have had 2 screens crack for no apparent reason. 1st replaced by costco under warranty. Second I send to samsung. Samsunf supervisor claims the sprint version as well as multiple other us carriers do not include gorilla glass. They discounted the repair from 200 down to 70 due to the confusion but warned me that the phane absolutely does not have gorilla glass and if it had they would without a doubt civer it under warranty.
Multiple samsung reps will confirm this. If you check on Sprints website you will see no mention of gorilla glass on the s4 either

Hell no want my money back....freak kind a glass is this.....I'm so pissed right now...

I'm generally afraid of gorillas, so I'm happy with this news.

The S3 doesn't say Gorilla Glass either. Corning advertises it

All international versions of the s4 have gorilla glass. In US versions these versions do not. Verizon claims theirs does so yes it probably does.

They all have Gorilla Glass. I repair the screens and get real intimate with the glass when taking them apart and they're all the same. Just played with a L720 and I545 and they both break with the same amount of force.
I know its not scientific but as best I can tell its the same glass.

Why the hell would the US variants not use the same glass as international. Doesn't seem logical to me. It would cost more money as you would have two different assembly lines, increasing the cost just to put a cheaper glass like the guys above us are saying.

Gorilla glass is scratch resistant...not scratch-proof or unbreakable.
No phone directly says Gorilla Glass anymore. Check tech specs on most phones and for the most part they say scratch resistant glass.
In the US, Gorilla Glass is no longer a selling point as it once was. A few years ago when it was new everyone asked about it. No one really asks this anymore. I have had maybe 1 person ask about gorilla glass in the last 6 months. The focus is resolution, camera and extras. Those are what providers focus their info on.
If you compare these screens vs normal glass screens (cheap ebay replacements) there is a noticable difference. From thickness (check with a micrometer) to strength and weight. A real gorilla glass screen is a hair thicker than glass but noticably heavier.

Pretty much any phone these days is made with some form of chemically-treated scratch-resistant glass, with or without the "gorilla" branding.

All US S4's have Gorilla Glass 3. Just confirmed with Samsung on the phone and with a Sprints Phone Rep. Not on the phone with a desk jockey. But the actual Rep for phones. No one brags anymore about Gorilla Glass as its just common knowledge. But it's there and part #'s prove it. Samsung stated basicly the same thing. All S4's have GG3. Its standard and they would not deviate from that for any reason.

Glad to hear it is GG3 because everytime one of my customers at work flaunts their iPhone, I say, "can you do this?" And proceed to hammer my phone with my car key. Took two years to break my Epic 4G that way... lol

Well understand that metal is softer than glass. So it won't scatch it but it can scratch the top layer that is there to prevent finger prints and stuff. I'm not sure how to spell it so I won't attempt but I'm sure someone else knows.

Good to know - thanks for the research
The only thing it is, is an "Oleophobic" coating on the glass for scratches, prints, things like that. That is why if you see some older or lower end phones once the coating deteriorates you can see like blemishes and scratches that seem to look like there almost in the paint or under the glass. Really common wither older iPhone screens.
Although I know this has been addressed just to reiterate. .. I am a sprint Rep myself and yes the S4 (all versions) does contain the GG or Gorilla Glass. Anyone think we can get a Cleaner out here to close down this thread. No offense CJ I am sure were just trying to help and get info you were told out there. But unfortunately everyone doesnt know their stuff ( as I'm sure you now know) this is how false information gets around.

"Oleophobic" just means that the screen is fingerprint resistant (it repels grease to some degree). It doesn't have anything to do with scratch protection.

gorilla glass 4?

Did a few searches the other day and wasn't able to find out if the N6 is using the new gorilla glass 4 or the v3. Anyone know?
finally found an article (on forbes of all places) that says it's GG 3.

Motorola's site also confirms
Display
5.96” AMOLED, 1440x2560, 16:9 aspect ratio, 493 ppi, Corning® Gorilla Glass® 3

What are the advantages of gorilla glass 4 over 3?
my memory isn't 100% but I think Corning said (at their CES booth in the main hall) that the only device available with GG 4 was a samsung device(s). it probably can easily be researched online though.

Advantages? Bragging rights.
The number is just part of their marketing. They bump it up occasionally because it gives the impression that something is advancing. There is no detectable difference. Maybe the manufacturing yields are better. End result is that FOR YOU, there is no difference.

LOL, you read that marketing bull-poop? Every time they say "its way stronger", they're comparing it exclusively to COMPETING products, not GG3. They are, in fact, making ABSOLUTELY NO claims with respect to GG3.

says who?
"In drop tests using Gorilla Glass 4, the new material was about twice as likely to survive a 1-meter drop onto a rough surface (Corning uses 180-grit sandpaper for these tests) than Gorilla Glass 3. "
source: Corning's newest Gorilla Glass gets twice as tough
maybe you should check your facts before spewing 'bull-poop'

Maybe you should go back and read the PRESS RELEASE that I was referring to, before you start spewing marketing articles (aka 'bull-poop'), which have no basis in... anything at all. The author of that ADVERTISEMENT you refer to, is the one who made that claim, FYI.
Even if there is Gorilla Glass 10, it can be easily scratched by sand or something

I have no idea what you're trying to say. Corning officially states that it is more resilient to drops that GG3, period. Whether or not you believe them is your opinion.
no, it's protected by corning gorilla glass 3
