Nope..Sadly, the LG Optimus Black doesn't have Gorilla glass on.

So you know better? You're telling me that Corning is lying on their website?
You're comparing it only "by the look"? LOL
Take an iron nail, scratch them both and then compare. Maybe then I'll believe you...
You know better? Prove it!
This is really confusing me. Corning said the OB has gorilla glass. But my OB's screen is showing some thin scrapes when tilted.

Are you sure it's scrapes? Just ask because I realized the "scrapes" on my OB change direction when polishing the display in another direction (= it's just touchscreen dirt).

I asked LG Online Support and they said its not gorilla glass and it is better to use a screen protector..
I think you should do a stratch test, because you are saying it is gorilla glass I said not gorilla glass..
In this case, explain what they're gain by saying that it has Gorilla Glass if it's not true ? -,-

LG Online Support said it is not gorilla glass, i asked 3 different times to be sure. Should i belive damn corning web site or LG Online Support, feel with my hand ?
Tou should ask Corning to respond clearly if "LG-P970 Optimus Black" has GG or not.
If you guys said it is gorilla glass, please do stratch test like this I tried to stratch my Nokia N8 with my keys but i couldnt..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBVzi9khix8
No one would/should try these kind of "test" on their own phone...
If you desperately want the answer, ask LG give you a official written reply.
I have no idea whether it is real Gorilla glass or not.
but why would the LG support answer no? my theory is incompetence
if he/she answer yes, and you "managed" to scratch it, he/she would hold responsible. answer no, then it is your problem... and will persuade you not to scratch the phone.

I think even LG don't know because in their website there is no information about what glass they're using. And their "Support" probably know only information what's written on their webpage.
I checked some other manufacturer webpages, Samsung, Nokia and HTC doesn't mention either if they are using gorilla glass. Only Motorola does.
Maybe they don't know or maybe their marketing team doesn't give a **** about gorilla glass and what difference does it makes.

One of the things i loved by my (now sold) iphone 4, is that the screen is glued to the frontglass. This prevents dust from ever getting inn the screen. I really hate dust in the screen.
Do the optimus 2x glue the screen to the glass?? Anyone know.
I don't know about the O2X, but all the android phones I've had over the last few years have NEVER had dust under the screen/glass.
Same.
Never had dust under the screen on my Nexus but i did on my G1 (only because it was falling apart and i'd messed with the insides too much )
So far no dust or anything under the screen, but i did notice that the very small groove that runs around the edge between the phone and the silver band collects ALOT of dust which is kinda hard to get rid of.
Overall though, this phone has the best build quality of any i've ever owned!
Same over here, no dust.
I don't think you should be worried about this. The screens on newer devices are quite well sealed. No dust should be able to get in there. And yes, you will get dirt build up on the grooves along the outer edge but that's quite unavoidable and can be cleaned with a really small pin.
I have 1 small spec of dust in the lower left corner of my screen (only visible when light shines directly on the screen).
but this could be from manufacture
My HTC desire had a build up of dust down the left hand side of the screen due to a faulty seal around the glass
I had 2 with dust under screen. and by that I dont know if with time it gets more dust, or its just at assembly.

It is glued. I went to the repair shop a couple of days ago to find out whether they could replace the broken glass on my phone. They highly recommended replacing the glass together with the display as one unit because, as they said, the glass is glued to the dislay and replacing just the glass is not only pretty difficult but can also result in dust getting between the glass and the display.

Buy one in the beginning and save being furious after the first big scratch

definitely use a screen protector! the x8 screen is hardly scratch resistent at all. just put it in a bag together with some keys and you will end up ruining your beautiful screen.

I think it's some type of mistake on Gsmarena site about x8's scratch resistant display. Because some people claimed, that when they removed the screen protector because of this arcticle , they experienced scratches later anyway.
I have used x8 before recently changed to xperia active.i myself haven't test something like that video.
On the specification says :
Scratch resistant
Yes it's scratch resistant
But it's not scratch proof right
Xperia active screen is using ashahi's dragontrail mineral glass

LG has been pretty clear about this since day 1, the back is not Corning Gorilla Glass. They have specifically informed reviewers in the press to not call the back gorilla glass. It is some other kind of hardened glass, either from Corning or another maker. Gorilla Glass is a brand name. Don't get hyped up on brands, they're near-meaningless.

yeah, but can't it be disconected from the housing?

The review is completely wrong about this. It's plastic finished with a "metallic" paint. I know for sure, as I had to smooth out a couple of small dings on the bezel (similar to the photo in the OP, but not as bad). It feels like an ABS when you work it with tools.

Advantages? Bragging rights.
The number is just part of their marketing. They bump it up occasionally because it gives the impression that something is advancing. There is no detectable difference. Maybe the manufacturing yields are better. End result is that FOR YOU, there is no difference.

LOL, you read that marketing bull-poop? Every time they say "its way stronger", they're comparing it exclusively to COMPETING products, not GG3. They are, in fact, making ABSOLUTELY NO claims with respect to GG3.

says who?
"In drop tests using Gorilla Glass 4, the new material was about twice as likely to survive a 1-meter drop onto a rough surface (Corning uses 180-grit sandpaper for these tests) than Gorilla Glass 3. "
source: Corning's newest Gorilla Glass gets twice as tough
maybe you should check your facts before spewing 'bull-poop'

Maybe you should go back and read the PRESS RELEASE that I was referring to, before you start spewing marketing articles (aka 'bull-poop'), which have no basis in... anything at all. The author of that ADVERTISEMENT you refer to, is the one who made that claim, FYI.
Even if there is Gorilla Glass 10, it can be easily scratched by sand or something

I have no idea what you're trying to say. Corning officially states that it is more resilient to drops that GG3, period. Whether or not you believe them is your opinion.
no, it's protected by corning gorilla glass 3
