[SOLVED] How to get this kind of RUU working? - P3600 Software Upgrading

I have flashed my Trinity P3600 with a WM6.5 ROM, but it turned out to be much slower and draining battery faster. I have tried several "Light" type WM6 ROMs and all kind, but I didn't notice much change. After all this, I've decided to download an original WM5 ROM and use it.
I went to shipped-roms.com and downloaded a stock WM5.
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...WWE_1.15.405.5_6275_1.20.00.11_12201_Ship.exe
I ran the setup, the RUU files extracted themselves, and the RUU started up, but it never recognized my Trinity. I have experienced this before (I can only flash my Trinity with 1 RUU, switching ROMs by replacing the RUU_Signed.nbf file with another. Basically my question is, where does that installer extract the files to run? It never gave me an option to choose, just ran the RUU itself. Or if that can't be solved, how can I get it to work? Do I need a new SPL? (I have an Olipro HardSPL by Des.)
EDIT: Found the solution. If anyone wonders how, I found the location by Task Manager and copy/pasted the file to the working RUU.

Scared to post but I am stuck must take your wrath

Aloha everyone,
I have tried to not post for about 3 weeks but I just can't move forward. I have read and tried to follow everything on the site but I am just confused. I know this is a developers site and I am very intimiated to be castigated by you guys but...it's the internet so what the hell.
I have found numberous instruction threads pertaining to updating ROMS on the Wizard. It seems that up until recently there was only one way to do things but now there are many. As I try to answer questions I come into conflict over which way I shoudl be heading.
I currently have a working WIZ100 that boots with IPL 2.21.0001 SPL 2.21.0lip with GSM 2.25.11 and OS 2.25.11.1. I somehow got to this point, I think by following the instructions to get hardSPL on my device and booting on startup. I did not know if I next needed to find a ROM and if so then how to get that ROM activated on my device or what programs to do this with. I know that the threads spell it out but the threads pertain only to direct assumptions; the assumption that my head is not in my ass.
I wanted to attempt to put a new rom on here, for fun and to play around with something new. Perhaps increase reliability or to get WM6 going. I am stuck now though. Part of me wants to turn back and load the original ROM from the HTC site and the other part of me wants to try a new ROM as I already have this thing booting to the 0lip SPL.
Is anyone out there willing to help me either via this thread, personal message or IM?
Since you have already installed Hard SPL you should be safe to go ahead and pick virtually any ROM you choose on there. I don't have a lot of experience with Hard SPL yet, except for installing it on my kaiser, but the one thing I would guess that you should make sure that the ROM you want to flash doesn't have would be an IPL/SPL update included. As far as I know, I don't think any of the public ones that you find on here have them but make sure you read the chef of the ROM's entire post to make sure. And, if you magically happen to find my ROM somewhere, which you shouldn't since I only gave it to 2 people to try, don't flash it because mine does include an IPL/SPL update.
From my best understanding you have already loaded HardSPL and now are CID unlocked. If this is the case then I would recommend going forward and flashing a new rom to your device. Just go to the Wizard Mobile 6 thread and find one you like, and flash it.
Simple as that.
I appreciate your replies.
1) I am clarified like butter! What program do I download and use to flash the ROM to the Wiz, this has been a source of confusion for me.
2) If I download and install the HTC Cingular ROM from HTC, will that overwrite the HardSPL and return my phone to Factory Default, including the radio areas? In other words do I rid myself of 2.21.0lip?
Thanks for not beating my head in...very polite you devs are...
I like beating people's heads in, and you are far too polite, that I am actually having a very slight guilty twinge! Damn you. I have a G3 myself so I cannot help much, however, I found this sticky which may help.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332320
I do know that once you choose your rom, you open the folder and run the item marked as ruu.
Now if you only had a G3, then I could fry you like the noob you are.
I suppose at some point, I should make a point of reading/learning about G4's. I know they are a far different animal from my G3.
That's the reason I said not to flash a ROM that contained an IPL/SPL upgrade since there is the possibility that it may overwrite Hard SPL, although I'm not positive of that, but better safe than sorry especially if it it's not an official ROM that carries the correct IPL/SPL format for a G4. If it doesn't contain the correct format for a G4 it could ruin your phone. If you flash an official ROM though and it overwrites it you can always just reinstall Hard SPL again and keep flashing. I hope this makes sense.
As for the files you need to flash a new ROM, they're usually included with the ROM. If they're not then just let me know and I'll upload them for you.
Good that you asked before damaging your (expensive) device...
Every Flash version comes with a RUU (Rom Update Utility) you just run that proggy and it does the rest.
To make it easier, look for a rom that states it's G4 safe (no IPL/SPL included), so you don't have to mess around with the inner files. If you want to, begin your tests with the TNT series, the latest build, stated in my sig is G4 safe, after that you'll be able to know the initial procedure.
Good Luck.
Thanks for the info.
Do I execute the ruu from Windows XP or from the SD card ont he device?
Why am I have a hard time searching for and finding TNT 5.2.1921 TouchFlo ROM?
The rom update utlity gives me an error when I try to update. Should I try to do all this from the sd card?
Well, I am plugging along. I rebooted after an error 300 came up on the rom utility. Any suggestions for me?
I found this thread, back in business, thanks for your help guys.
I guess my only unanswered question is...if I use the HTC ATT exe from htc.com will it kill the hardSPL and restore the computer back to normal?
If you have ROM on your desktop, Connect your phone to your computer via USB, open up Activesync, uncheck the check box in settings that allows USB connections. Make sure you have at least 50% battery, then put your phone into bootloader mode. (soft reset while holding down the camera button- keep holding the button for 5 sec.) a tri-color RGB screen should come up. This is boot loader mode. Then run the rom update utility program, and everything is automatic from there on. once it is done flashing the phone will restart itself.

Try it and find out. I'd kind of like to know the answer to that one too, although my phones a G3 and already CID unlocked anyway. You can always reinstall Hard SPL over again if it does.
So this worked out well for me overall. Installing HardSPL to my G4, and then using a correct bootloader with the right ROM (to review).
I am having one issue.
I have the OEM ROM, however the RUU gives me an error. Is there a documented way to restore the phone to an original status? Is it even necessary?
I ask due to problems since my upgrade to the TNT rom. I am noticing a lot of missed calls and people have complained. Is this an issue with the 8125 and the particular ROM?
I don't know what to ask, or how to search for this. Thanks for any input you can offer.
Otherwise the TNT rom is awesome. I do miss the voice dialing though. Thats another search.
Actually, that's usually an issue with your radio version. Try using either version 2.19 or farias 2.69 and see if that fixes your problem. You should be able to find both of them in the wiki and you may want to try both of them and see which one gives you the better reception because sometime one will work much better than the other for you depending on your location.
By the way, you don't have to be CID unlocked or have hardspl installed to update your radio so you shouldn't have an issue with the RUU giving you an error. If you do, let me know and I'll upload a different RUU for you to try.

So the Rom is broken up into major parts. Those parts must ineract with one another, so that would be why my radio version may be at cause?
Yep. The ROM can contain the IPL, SPL, OS, Splash Screens, GSM (the radio), and extended ROM, any of which can be changed or upgraded individually without affecting the other parts of the ROM (for all intents and purposes anyway). That means you can change your radio version without it deleting all of your settings or your installed apps in your OS, etc etc.
Since you still upgrade each individual part using a RUU that is able to update any of the parts you still get a warning when you run it that it will delete all of your files, but as long as the update that you're running doesn't include a new OS you can ignore those warnings.
I decided to back out of the entire upgrade and move back to WM5 Official Cingular HTC ROM. I am stoked that I now know the full process of taking a G4 through hardSPL, ROM updates and restoral.
I was too scared to try any radio updates or fixes. Maybe when I upgrade phones I will come back to playing with the 8125 but for now, I just need a good functioning phone for work.
Do these Cingular radio fix cabs apply to a standard phone or only to upgraded ones?

Upgrading on Vista

Has anyone found a way to upgrade to any WM6 ROMs on Windows Vista? I'm sorta at my wits end here!
In the Wizard Upgrading forum there is a thread "Upgrading your phone on Windows Vista". The driver instructions (which are really well written) work perfectly, but the RUU version fails with an "out of date" error.
There have been a number of other RUU versions suggested, but they all crash on Vista.
Shelltool works on Vista only about 25% of the time. Usually it just starts the flash process and hangs indefinitely. I was able to successfully flash XM6r4, but since then nothing else I've tried has worked. I did go back to the latest AT&T ROM afterwards, but haven't been able to get back to WM6 since. One of the things I tried was extracting the RUU from Cingular's update, but that one didn't work either, which confuses me even more!
All of the RUU Wrapper versions I've used to flash my Hermes work great on Vista, yet none of the RUU versions seem to be able to do so on my G4 Wizard (Cingular 8125).
Please, if anyone has any suggestions, I'd really appreciate them! I've searched and searched through the forums for different methods and versions, but have come up empty handed.
FWIW, I don't have access to an XP machine, and dual booting is not an option for me.
Thanks!
Dual Boot!
I just ended up dual booting XP, I noticed you said it was not an option, but did you know you can do it without reformatting through computer management in Vista?

Yep! Unfortunately that's not an option either. It's a matter of resources. I'm stuck with Vista, on which, I should point out, I can upgrade my Hermes successfully 100% of the time!
The RUU versions used to flash .nbh format ROMs to my Hermes all work, yet the older versions which take the .nbf format ROMs used by the Wizard don't!
There's got to be some solution. Using Shelltool usually works, but that only flashes the OS, not the ExtROM, splash screen, etc, so it's really only part of the solution.
Hmm i myself had some problems with flashing using Windows Vista. here are some observations i had
1) i first flashed using the origional tmobile rom (3.08 spl/ipl with 2.69 radio) i flashed it without doing anything special besides putting it in bootloader mode
2) next when i tried flashing it with a cooked rom it wouldnt work ( again i just tried to flash from bootloader mode without following any of the instructions givin in the Upgrading with Windows Vista thread)i found the RUUupdater version to be 2.0?? ( im sorry i forget the exact version numbers)
3) On checking the RUUupdater of the Tmobile that worked i found it to be 2.5???( again i forget teh exact version but suffice it to say it was newer)
4) i copyed the cooked rom nbk files to the Tmobile origional rom folder ( the one that worked on updating) but unfortunatly it wouldnt work
5) i then went to the thread and downloaded the drivers and installed them as the instructions said i should
6) i then downloaded the VistaRUU file they had there and then copyed the nbk files to that folder and VIOLA i flashed it and it worked like a charm ( again i flashed in bootloader mode)
This was just my experiance hopefully someone can figure out what i did right and why it worked for me and hopefully make it work for everyone else having problems
I thought there was a thread somewhere here about how to use Vista...if I remember, it may have even been stickied.
There was a stiki but it seems to have been unstikied and has since gone outta sight
Was this the thread??
It is still stickied if it is the thread.
I don't use Vista, so I haven't really read through it.

What do you mean by putting the phone in bootloader mode first? In my experience, the phone has to be booted fully in order for the RUUs to work. Is there a way to get it to recognize the phone if it's already in bootloader mode?
If I put the phone in bootloader mode and then run RUU, the RUU just comes back and says it can't talk to the phone.
FWIW, I did the same as you, as far as flashing the original (Cingular) ROM and trying to use the RUU that came with that update. It seems that those RUUs won't work with any other ROMs.
Thanks for any help!

Yep, that's the one! Been through it. As I mentioned above, the driver instructions in that thread are required when using Vista, but the RUU doesn't work.
Other than docnas here, everyone else has had the same problem as me. The Vista RUU comes back and complains that it's out of date.
I'd like to figure out what docnas did differently to get it to work. BTW, what version of Vista were you using? 32 or 64 bit? Mine is 64.
I'd also like to find out how it worked with the phone already in bootloader mode, since everyone says (and my experience has shown) that the phone needs to be booted and synced before the RUU will talk to the phone.
This may all be too late for me anyway. I'm giving my old Cingular 8125 to a friend, which is why I've been updating it. Unfortunately (or fortunately? ), once she has it, I'll only be working with my ATT 8525, which I can update and work with without any of the problems I've had with the Wizard.

Flash Only Gets to 1%

Hello xda
I've been following the flashing guide for my p3600i, but have hit a snag.
After flashing HardSPL 3.20 and the current radio ROM, I can't flash any cooked ROM's. Attempting to flash any ROM results in error code 270 after 1% and reboots the phone. I still have access to the original OS after it boots back up. I'm attempting this on Vista using the XP drivers for HTC USB Sync.
Any ideas?
Edit: I've read that I need to modify HTC p3600 based ROM's to work on the p3600i, but this information isn't listed in the stickied guide. Is this still accurate, and if it is, can someone point me in the right direction on how to do this?
The guides are up-to-date and have worked for many people.
Have you tried to boot to the tri-colour screen by holding down the power button, camera button and pressing in the bottom soft reset button all at the same time?
Do that and confirm you have Olipro's HardSPL installed properly.
EDIT: I think I know what your problem might be. When you flash a ROM, IGNORE THE DIRECTIONS ON THE PROGRAM YOU RUN.
Do this, AND ONLY THIS don't do anything else.
Enter the tri-colour flash screen manually on your phone (holding down the 3 buttons). when you get this screen, connect the phone to your computer. Confirm you see the phone display Olipro's HardSPL 3.20 as installed, and at the bottom once connected to the PC, USB as the connection.
From there, run the upgrade program to flash the ROM. Ignore the instructions on the screen and keep clicking continue.
That might be why youre having the problem - you need to ALREADY be in the tri-colour bootscreen before running the flashing program.
Good luck!
Ok, I definately need to patch p3600 ROM's to work on my p3600i. I've patched Mary's 3.7 Lite and that seems to have installed and booted, so I'm away.
Edit: I can confirm I was following the guide precisely, but it's a guide for Trinity P3600, not for P3600i. It doesn't mention the required patching (it really should). I can also confirm I have the correct HardSPL installed and it seems to working now. Someone needs to add a note for P3600i users to that sticky.
You don't need to patch anything.
There is a sticky in the upgrading section for P3600i ROMs that have been tested and are working. Use those and you won't have any issues (Y)
I just had a look and at the end the ROM Collection thread is mentioned. You obviously didn't read to the end.

I have EXACTLY the same problem as you.
Also I extracted the official ROM into a folder, then extract the cooked ROM 6.1 and get the .nbf (ROM only) file into the official extract folder and tried to flash. At this point the error says: error: NAND 128 is on this rom where the target (which is p3600i) is NAND 256.
so the structure of NAND is different that's why got error.
I saw the correction is to change 400 to 401 in the name of the os file and bake again. This may help but I don't know how to do it yet...

Um retard did you read what I wrote? You DON'T need to patch anything. Follow the flashing instructions, and IF you read them to the end you'll see it point to the ROM Collection link for the P3600i. For the ROMs linked to in this thread there is no flashing required - they're already done.
Don't call him a retard. I certainly read to the end and but Mediafire was down last night and I had to get the Mary 3.7 Lite ROM from the original Mary's 3.7 thread. This is why I had to patch them manually. The thread doesn't mention that the linked to ROM's are different then those in the original thread about each ROM, hence this is where I went wrong. If I had know the mediafire linked ROM's were different then the ones in each individual thread, I would have waited until mediafire was back up.

Corrupt HD?

Hi,
I've just upgraded to a new Dutch rom, but since then I only have trouble.
I get different colours (like drivers are not loaded), it keeps getting stuck or resets itself, and nothing helps.
I've tried to put on a different rom, with succes, but I still have the same problems.
On startup, however, I see the right colours.
I also put back the latest original ROM, but no luck...
Can anybody help me?
guessing you have hspl 1.14 installed
Yeah, I reinstalled that, as one of the latest things I did.
The problem you describe happens when you flash a 1.56 based rom with 1.14 HSPL. First flash a stock 1.56 ROM (a new SPL is then flashed as well) or use the new HSPL. Then you should be fine. So no, it's nor corrupt!
For more info, read crackwhore's guide (sticky)
Well, I'm trying to do so now, but it keeps getting stuck at 0%...
Does it matter I have an NLD-version, and not a WWE?
Update: I cannot get a proper connection via activesync, and through the bootloader it stays at 0%, and after a while the update utility says no.
Update 2: ah, thanks to troubleshooting, it looks fine!
THANKS!

Urgent help pls. "Loading" screen on

OK. Decided to upload a new ROM as my phone was getting slow and unusable.
It's an O2 XDA (Touch Diamond) with:
Touchflo v3 Build 29946
ROM 1.93.206.6 WWE
09/08/08
Radio 1.00.25.05
Protocol 52.29.25.12H
Boot R1.00.25.05
I downloaded Olinex's unsigned developer Hard SPL and I extracted the NBH file and renamed it DIAMIMG.NBH following the advice here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2707841&postcount=4035
On soft reset I pushed the vol down and back buttons to get the boot loader stripes, then let go.
I now have a screen which says "Loading..." and has done for 20 minutes. I have now got the phone on charge while I wait for some help to see what to do next, just in case this is a critical stage - don't want to brick it.
Reading through again I am concerned that this was a procedure for rom upgrade not Hard SPL install, can someone tell me please?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Well, I ended up taking the battery off to get it to reboot. It seems to boot fine back into the old ROM.
I still intend to upgrade it (to SwiftBL's v7.5) but have a few questions:
1. Can the HardSPL be run from the internal storage card? If so is it simply running the exe from the unpacked zip from within a folder? ActiveSync is a bit too flaky for me.
2. Do I need the SIM card in the phone at any stage of the ROM upgrade?
3. On the original ROM I get a drop down menu to setup the phone to the UK O2 network settings. If I load a new ROM, will I need to know these settings?
Cheers
1. HardSPL cannot be run from storage. Only Activesync or Bootloader
2. No. You can flash without SIM card
3. You can use connection setup on any new ROM. Usually starts straight after initial setup.
OK here's where I'm at now.
Downloaded jockyw2001's HardSPL 1.24
Ran it and it got as far as prompting me to run on the phone. I said 'Yes' and the HTC screen went black as expected.
Next stage was to run the DiamondCustomRUU.exe file which I did but this is waiting for ActiveSync. ActiveSync will not sync with the phone now, I guess because the phone is not 'on'?
Where do I go from here?
Use the Hard-SPL in my sig with your RUU.
Thanks, will do (it's not the one mentioned in the ROM author's description though).
So how do I recover the phone from the black screen now? Is it safe to remove the battery to reset?
Battery pulled after reading this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-427945.html
I'll try the SPL you mentioned now.....
Had a good search but can't find out. This Olinex zip contains just one file RUU_Signed.nbh.
Where do I get the other files from to run this?
use the attached . It has the RUU exe and the nbh.
Thanks. This is a signed version I see, was going to use SwiftBL's ROM which requires unsigned.
May take a look at other roms that use signed unless you think that I can load the SwiftBL rom with this version?
