-Rant Post-
Its annoys me that Google Drive is not integrated as well as (ie) DropBox on the Nexus 4 (or Android 4.2)
When I select Attach Image when composing an Email, I'm given the choices of Gallery and Dropbox.
Why is there no Option for Google Drive?
To attach an item (picture/file) to an email that is located on Google Drive, I must first open Google Drive app.
Then locate the file I wish to email, long press, select send/share then start composing an email.
Even with this long process the Image is added to an email as a "File Attachment" instead of an Image in the body of the email.
(as it would appear if I selected "Attach Image" from the Compose Email screen.)
This also prevents you from added files located on Google Drive to an email if you forget too (or choose to at a later time) as there is no option to attach the file mid-way through composing the email.
Wish there was a way to remedy this, and add Google Drive to the options pop-up for adding Files & Images...
Damn Google! Why is a Ordinary Citizen thinking of these things before the Big Brains at the Google Compound do?
(this probaby should have been post under a different section: didn't realize I was still on the Nexus 4 tab when I hit New Topic)
Yeah this has been a big inconvenience for me too, for what should be fairly basic functionality between 2 core Google apps.
If anyone has a work around or idea if this is being worked on at google hq, i'd be grateful

Hi all,
I just unplugged my sim from my X1 silver, and plugged it into my HD7. and then, after two hours...
1. how do you actually sync your phone contacts from ms outlook 2007 to it? I tried downloading zune, but nothing. The freakin' thing doesn't even have a manual.
2. I thought I won't encounter a problem since it's HTC and since it's WM7, and since my PC is win7 x64. But oh boy, this is getting in my nerves.
3. WM7 doesn't know how find a hidden (SSID) WIFI. I mean,.. Dang!
compared to any wm phones, just plug the hell into your pc, get wmdc, and then voila. 5 minutes tops.
XD
WP7 is indeed a different bird from WM. Hidden SSID is a known limitation, and hopefully gets addressed with the coming update.
I assume your outlook is not connected to exchange? If so, piece of cake, if not, you'll likely prefer (or not) to use a hotmail connector for outlook. This essentially creates a cloud-based sync.
Oh, and the manual is inside the box in a little pocket.
I managed to upload my msoutlook 2007 contacts to the cloud using OC32bit. almost a piece of cake. But, I'm having a hard time getting it to my phone.
When I try to add an account, it says windows live account is already added. but when I tap people. There nothing in the contacts list. None.
When I try to login to windows live via pc I can see all the contacts from there.
I... just hate it.
Talk about innovation, talk about the future. XD
Use Outlook connector and a hotmail account and everything works perfectly.
Hi,
Thanks! I manage to do it now. After spending a night my phone book has everything on it now(contacts wise). Too lazy to repeat it for calendar, lastly, I missed activesync so much that even your one note syncs to your wm.
I'm having thoughts on returning the phone and getting the android version (desire or X10) because of these:
1. hd7 only installs apps on what windows wants and not what YOU want.
2. it doesn't support pdf file for book reading, document reading.
3. I heard it doesn't open .doc .xls and any lower .doc files. (old docs still exist today unconverted)
4. I can't put files on the phone "ala USB flash disk style" I mean where's the plug drag and go, when you use the phone business wise. how do you intend to use the 16G space? (for movies or music; given the rumored battery life?)
Everything we do on our wm phones aren't easy to do on this wp7 anymore, I haven't reviewed at it before I grabbed my HD7 since I said to myself what do I have to worry about? I have grown from WM5, WM6 and WM6.1, what could go wrong?
I dunno I mean I hope I'm not babbling, I can't google if i don't open pocket ie and type google, I can't install opera, I can't browse flash sites I mean, youtube isn't the only streaming video out there. I can't install my garmin mobile xt, I can't install java app, I can't explore the contents of my phone. I mean this is freakin' alien windows i'm using. I don't even know if I can find my phone on over the local area (win7) network or homegroup.
With all the "I can'ts" I said. I thought I'd better off android!. XD
1. hd7 only installs apps on what windows wants and not what YOU want.
If you mean the app store is limited, yes it is. It's growing though.
2. it doesn't support pdf file for book reading, document reading.
Download the Adobe Reader from Marketplace. Free.
Haven't tried #3.

Zune. It's just a matter of figuring it out. It's different, to be sure. They also want you to utilize cloud based storage more. The offer free SkyDrive space included with your live account, and most of the MS apps can access that space. Other apps, like the eBook reader Freda, can connect to a DropBox account. Then there is Sharepoint.
I can't google if i don't open pocket ie and type google
Open up IE then press the capacitive Search button. Instantly takes you to Google.
I just found there's a google app in the markeplace too? and yes it grows every hour, its almost endless... pretty neat!
If you say it's just a matter of figuring it out, I hope I can figure it out with an option NOT to upload it on a cloud, since c'mon not all places in the world have super fast internet connection, I don't want uploading an entire folder up there then downloading it to my device.
And even if the chevron thing would work on my device, It would void my warranty so I wouldn't try.
After 2 days with my new phone, I feel much more comfortable with it now. I hope it would get even better.
Gotta follow this up since I don't want to start another similar thread.
I have another question:
The phone contacts (people) always have you on top named "Me"
question is, How do you actually link a contact to "Me"?
I just noticed it now that somebody asks for my bank account and of course, I'll look for it in my notes within my ms outlook contact under my name. I just found out that my name in my hd7 doesn't have a picture and doesn't have a facebook link(not that the FB link is too important), etc. and when I click the link icon in the bottom middle, I can link it to any other contact entry in my phone except "Me".
Technically speaking, the contact named after me in my phone is treated as another person. I tried signing on to windows live, check my contact there, found my name and the options I have is "add as a friend" which is really beginning to sound funny.
Long story short, I need to link my ms outlook 2007 contact(myname) to the owner of the HD7 phone which is me, so I wouldn't retype everything and delete the synced "myname" account since if i do so that would be deleted in my PC. I gotta have 'em both. but I wish I just could link it to my phone's "Me" account.
That's a toughie.
So the "Me" contact syncs up with both your Windows Live account and your Facebook account (which you add in services --> email and accounts, NOT the blue facebook app)
I don't see a way to sync the Me contact with another outlook contact.
You may want to take the notes in your Outlook contact and copy them to your Live stuff.

that's dependant on carrier... I get yahoo, you could get the google search app from the market or pin google from IE to the start so you can launch straight to google.

Yeah, not the blue facebook app. and I think I'll just have to deal with it having two seperate accounts the Me, and my outlook unlinked.
@frontieruk
Speaking about the search button, it is getting annoying when you actually hit the button accidentally. I hope someday a double-press (double-click) fix would make it possible.
I had a similar experience except that I got the "Me" where it's suppose to be the first time. Learning little by little, I guess Hotmail (windows live) is actually kinda cool.

Hey guys did some searching already and I was able to find some similar posts but never one with the exact same issue. I was wondering if it is possible to set the native Gmail app to always display pictures? Yes its right at the top of the app but its kinda a pain to have to hit every time I want to see the pictures. My thoughts behind why google does this is to cut down on data usage for those who do not have an unlimited plan, but they could atleast include the option somewhere. Anybody know of any work arounds or mods that can be used to always display the pictures in the native Gmail app?
Thanks in advance guys
I Second!
Looking for a work-around on the Gmail app that will auto-show images from my CCTV system. Downloading attachments one-by-one can be painfully slow on Gmail so I'm using K-9 Mail from Market which gives me more speed in favour of the 'Batch Operation' = open email - all images load - scroll through images.
Even logging onto my account through stock browser is faster and shows a preview of all the attached images but not enough to define detail.
I would prefer an app modded or otherwise as sometimes my browser hangs on HSDPA and preview is not sufficiant.
Just to clarify, I would like to be able to tap an email and have the images load vertically down the page so that I can scroll through them.
Warm regards.
Hi all, I'm self employed and receive most of my work via email with the details in a pdf or doc file.
If at home I just transfer the details to calendar on my PC which syncs with my google calendar and then onto my note calendar. From the note calendar I can tap the location field and navigate to the customer with google maps and, if necessary, tap the contact number to call the customer easily while on route.
The problem is this requires manually typing the data from the document into the calendar. Easy on my PC but a pain in the butt if I'm on the road at the time.
Does anyone know of a way to automate this so I can do it easily from my note?
In summary I want to be able to get the job details into the calendar (stock at moment but not set in concrete), specifically the address into the location field and contact name and number into the description field.
Would it work if I got them to send out as a calendar invitation, I assume but don't know for sure, that they use outlook.
Sorry for the long drawn out question, I hope it makes sense. Any ideas greatly appreciated. Love using the note for my jobs but need to be able to streamline it's use when jobs come in on the road. At the moment I have to open the email, download and open the attachment, write down the details and either enter them into a diary event or type them directly into phone/navigation as appropriate. Not exactly high tech

imo the simplest solution would be if customers would send you invitations from google calendar - when accepted would automatically get into your note calendar,
Thanks p107r0,
I think it will also work if they create a diary event on their system and invit me as an atendee. In theory I then get an email invite which, if I accept it will populate my calendar.
Just messing with it myself and seems to work. I'll have to get my companies to try it out if I can convince them.
genious question, brilliant idea for an app, someone should make it

What if you did some sort of mashup where your clients go to a google hosted google apps page with a google spreadsheet that is acting as a form,
in this they can type the requirements.... and perhaps can select / type who they are (or perhaps type their UID which does a lookup to prevent data protection act) that has an action of add to calendar + email alert for you with the attached PDF that they select in the form?
I might have a look in to this myself as it seems kinda fun!
Edit: Found this example, that is kinda close

Second edit
Perhaps http://www.jotform.com/ can help.
Thanks fooby, at moment I'm working on getting them to set up a calendar event and inviting me as an attendee as I think that will work with a few tweaks.
Trouble is getting them to play with me

I've been using a Nexus 4 (and Windows Phone, prior to that) before landing on the HTC One. Beautiful phone, great hardware, and a super-fast camera! Love it.
Anyhow, my primary email is with Outlook.com. My wife has her calendar (also on Outlook.com) shared out to me. On Windows Phone, I can see her shared calendar just fine. On the Nexus 4, I can also see her shared calendar just fine. On the HTC One, however, her calendar doesn't show up anywhere. I've tried adding my account as both an EAS account *and* a Hotmail account (same as Outlook.com), but neither works as expected. Sad
To make matters worse, my "workaround" was to have her add her account to my phone, *ONLY* sync her calendar, and then turn off notifications so that I can simply "see" her calendar, but I'm not getting notifications for her stuff. Unfortunately, my phone then decided to start syncing her email as well, even though I had that option unchecked. HTC has a few bugs to work out...
Anyone figure out a solution for this???
Any thoughts?
I'm curious as to why *that* particular feature would be any different from the current Nexus 4 to the HTC One (running Android Revolution HD 10.1). I've also tested with the stock HTC One rom, but no-go...
Answering my own question here...
1) I contacted HTC support and although they were happy to open a trouble ticket, they were otherwise useless for any help.
2) I resolved this by...
- having my wife give me the .ics (iCal) address for her calendar (Outlook.com > Calendar > Share > Get Link > .iCal url)
- email that URL to me
- add her calendar to my Gmail account (which I otherwise don't use)
- (note: the url looks like webcals://cid-502443690c6aee53.calendar.live.com/calendar/private/e0f9f085...ics, but you need to change the "webcals" portion to "http" when you Add By URL)
- rename the new calendar to something sensible
- make sure my HTC One is syncing my Gmail Calendar
- open the HTC One calendar app
- choose the Accounts (Multi-Calendar) option
- select the "..." option next to the Google entry
- be sure to *tick* the box for the newly-shared calendar
Voila! The shared Outlook.com calendar is syncing to your phone without any further wackiness, and will continue to sync automagically.
Hope this helps someone else out there
Thank you sooo much

Wow that was awesome, thank you so much!
You said that the calendar was working on your nexus 4. That has the stock google calendar which you can download from the play store. This should work just fine, i think. Anyway that's the calendar app I'm using instead of the htc calendar.

Hi guys
Kindle Fire HD 7, 2012 model
I know this may not be the best forum to ask this question (or even the best site), but I've searched the internet for help, and been to the Cyanogenmod site unsuccessfully.
I moved over to CM11 a week ago and I like it! (thanks to everyone who posted help and advice, tutorials etc on this subject, and to those who posted in response to problems I had)
The one problem I'm having with CM11 is "Internal Error" message I get from the ROM's email app. It only happens when I check my Gmail accounts, and only when I browse the non-system folders (ie ones I created myself). The app is also not synching correctly either so that the folder contents in my accounts are different from that shown in the app.
My other non-Gmail accounts don't have any errors and appear to sync correctly.
Nb, this is NOT the Gmail app I'm talking about, it is the app that comes with CM11. The Gmail app appears to work ok, but obviously only shows Gmail accounts and I don't want to use different apps for different accounts.
I've tried CM11 snapshot 6 & 7 and both are the same. Even tried a couple of nightlies. The only similar problem I saw on the CM site was for CM10, and the OP updated the ROM and it solved the problem.
I've tried K9 and Aqua mail but didn't like the interfaces, and don't see why the ROM app wouldn't work.
Anyone any ideas on what to do? I've obviously tried clearing the cache as well as deleting the accounts and adding again to no avail.
(Ironically, one of the big incentives to move from stock was because of the difficulties I had in syncing the calendar and contacts.... those work perfectly in CM11, almost instant updates, but the email is just as big a problem )
any ideas anyone?

The Gmail app has been having issues, for some, for over a week now. This is probably what's going on. It's a Gmail synching issue not a CM issue.

Thanks for your response LE, but I don't think it is a Gmail issue. I don't see any problems with my desktop that accesses GMail via client software, and there are no problems with the other android apps I've looked at simultaneously with the ROM app. All the other apps correctly access the account without any errors, but I think I have a clue as to where the problem lies.
To allow my desktop SW Mozilla Thunderbird to display the account folders correctly, there is a "IMAP server directory" which is named [Google Mail] it's enclosed in square brackets. Without this entry, all folders, both system and personal are put under a folder called Google Mail, although personal folders don't always show up. Generally, the IMAP communication between GMail and Thunderbird seems a bit dodgy, and I'm not sure where the fault lies.
So, when I look in the app, I see the system folders, no problem, then at the bottom is the [Google Mail] folder where my messages lie. Tapping on that folder brings up the rest of my folders, but also the Internal Error. The app seems to have a problem with that folder. Other apps I've tried behave normally, but instead of displaying the folders simply as a folder list, eg
Folder 1
Folder 2 (and nested inside)
Sub folder 1
Sub folder 2 etc
They display as
[Google Mail]/Folder 1
[Google Mail]/Folder 2
[Google Mail]/Folder 2/Sub folder 1
[Google Mail]/Folder 2/Sub folder 2
[Google Mail]/Folder 3
[Google Mail]/Folder 3/Sub folder 1
[Google Mail]/Folder 3/Sub folder 1/Sub-Sub folder 1
[Google Mail]/Folder 3/Sub folder 1/Sub-Sub folder 2
[Google Mail]/Folder 3/Sub folder 2
etc
A messy display that takes up lot of display space and makes finding a particular folder hard. The folders can't be collapsed, they are displayed as shown, even when for example, Folder 2 is a holding folder for the sub folders inside, and contains no files itself, it is still shown.
Obviously it looks like differences in IMAP implementation between GMail and various clients, but I can't be alone in this. Thunderbird has a reasonable user base and I've looked at 5 or 6 android apps that display the folder paths as above.
I've also just found that for some reason the ROM app won't show pictures inside mails, and they're attached either. I tap on the icon to show the picture but the icon changes without showing the picture. Anyone experience this?
