Why is your mac address blocked?
Do this all at your own own risk and don't use it to do anything illegal.
It may somehow be possible, I'm not entirely sure though. You need root and busybox or its a non-starter.
busybox iplink show eth0 <--- This will display your current WiFi MAC address
busybox ifconfig eth0 hw ether <insert a mac address> <--- this will spoof your MAC address on any Linux PC but does not work on Android or at least not on our device, it looks like it has done but it hasn't really changed.
So then there is this file: cat /sys/devices/virtual/net/eth0/address
This file remains unchanged when trying the previous method, its read-only but you could change the permissions and modify it, I have no idea if this would work and I couldn't rule out negative consequences.

Another way:
Disable wifi, go to /system/etc/wifi you will find 2 txt files begin with nvram.Change the mac address in these files. Now go to /data and delete the file .mac.info.Doesn't need a reboot jus activate wifi.

[Q] 3rd party app installation BLOCKED

Rooted my phone. Have Superuser. Tried to run GlaxaySBootLWP.apk for wallpaper but keep getting the following error:
Install Blocked. For security, your phone is set to block installation of applications not sourced in Android Market.
Any thoughts on how to get this to install? Thanks.

That's AT&T's doing.
You should check out the "Captivate Bible (directory)" reference thread. It's the very first thread at the Captivate Android Development forum. I would link you there... but I can't.

You can't do it - at least that was mentioned before - and why you don't see a settings.db file listed. There are some machine specific entries that are not supposed to be copied from machine to machine.

ADB in Linux

Ok, I have the SDK installed. For my MT4G adb sees my device, it also sees it in fastboot. But for my streak 7 when I do ./adb devices it says ?????? No Permissions
I'm pretty sure it's because the driver is not installed. How do I go about getting adb to work in Linux?
http://www.attdroids.com/forum/motorola-backflip-development-hacking/354-backflip-how-adb-linux.html
and i guess you have to put in the vendor id and mode that is specified for the streak 7.
i know it is 413c for vendor id...

Thanks! ADB is now working
What exactally are you trying to do. If you are trying to dump the images, you can do that through the terminal on the device. Honestly the only thing I have ever used adb for is to root the device initially.

Where do I find my modem in all the files rootexplorer gives acces to? I know I can just look at the baseband in about phone, but I would like to verify for myself.

The kernel and modem are firmware that interface the hardware to the OS, not files. It's kind of like the BIOS on a PC.

this. they arent 'files' in the traditional sense once they are on your phone.
Is there any way to verify, other than looking at about phone?

My atrix HD won't let me tether since I have not activated mobile hotspot with an At&t sim card. I can't do that since I'm not with At&t. I'm on Airvoice wireless(At&t mvno). Any solution for me?

Hey dude,
Alright this is what you need to do:
I assume you're using At&t STOCK ROM (4.1.1)
1. Root Your phone (look in xda how to root it)
2. Download SQlite Editor from Play Store (it's a paid app but well worth it)
3. open SQlite Editor and Grant Superuser permission.
4. Now, you will see a list of all the apps installed in your phone
5. Scroll down until you find "SETTINGS STORAGE". The icon will be a wrench and a red hammer. click on it.
6. Now you will see "settings.db" click on it.
7. You'll see 3 items listed. Click on "settings"
8. now you'll see a list (an excel looking list). Find "ENTITLEMENT_CHECK" (line 57 for me)
9. you will see a 1 next to it. Change that "1" to "0" or "disabled" without the quotations. ( 0 worked for me)
10. Reboot.
11. Go into homescreen>settings>tethering&mobile hotspot
12. enable
13. ENJOY!

maybe not a video... but here is what you'll need to root it. It's called motochopper from Dan Rosenberg (djrbliss)
http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/15208-root-motochopper-yet-another-android-root-exploit-412/
The Motochopper exploit is attached to this thread. It may be used as follows:
1. Download motochopper.zip (link above)
2. Extract the entire contents of the zip file.
3. If you are using Windows, ensure you have installed the latest Motorola USB drivers available for your phone.
4. Ensure USB Debugging mode is enabled on your device.
5. If you are using Windows, navigate to the extracted directory and execute "run.bat". If you are using Linux or OS X, navigate to the extracted directory in a terminal and execute "./run.sh".
As always, future OTA updates may remove the ability to regain root access, so proceed with caution when updating. Enjoy!

I have a problem. Went to tether to my girlfriend phone and she connects but it's like no internet is passing to her. I can scroll on Facebook and use the browser normally and her phone won't do nothing just stick loading and end up throwing unable to connect. (That's like when your connected to your router but there's no internet coming to the router). What could be causing this?

It seems that for carriers other than AT&T in addition to changing entitlement_check to 0 you also need to change dun_apn_changeable to 1 and add ",dun" to your APN type (or create a copy of it with ",dun" added).

Well I did the change to 1 on the Dan_apn_changeable but if I add dun to my APN type internet won't turn on. And if I remove the dun from it and turn on internet plus mobile hotspot it still will do the problem mentioned before. Any fix?
